Dal sito DeadLine:
Disney Talking ‘Pirates Of The Caribbean’ Reboot With ‘Deadpool’ Scribes Rhett Reese & Paul Wernick EXCLUSIVE: Disney is exploring a reboot of its billion dollar Pirates of the Caribbean franchise. The studio has met with the writing team of Rhett Reese & Paul Wernick and they are in early talks to write the script. Reese & Wernick are the writers behind the first two Deadpool blockbusters, and before that wrote Zombieland and its sequel, and 6 Underground, the action film that Michael Bay is directing for Netflix with Ryan Reynolds starring. Jerry Bruckheimer will continue to captain the ship as producer on Pirates of the Caribbean, but at this point it is too early to say who else might be back and that includes Johnny Depp, who has channeled Rolling Stones’ rogue Keith Richard in playing Jack Sparrow through the first five films. It is not surprising the studio will try to breathe new pirate life into the franchise, as the first five films grossed north of $4.5 billion over 14 years. WME reps Wernick & Reese.

You've hired Deadpool scribes Rhett Reese and Paul Wernick to work on a possible Pirates of the Caribbean reboot. Can Pirates survive without Johnny Depp? Sean Bailey: We want to bring in a new energy and vitality. I love the [Pirates] movies, but part of the reason Paul and Rhett are so interesting is that we want to give it a kick in the pants. And that's what I've tasked them with. Dal sito Forbes: How To Save A Fast $90 Million On Your Pirates Movie: Write Johnny Depp Out Of The Thing The dead weeks of the holidays are the perfect outpost from which to contemplate all manner of upheaval. Not least, since there are so many very lively dead and/or cursed characters in the thing, it's the best possible moment to consider what the heck the billion-dollar Pirates of the Caribbean franchise is going to look like going forward, minus America's and possibly the world's most lovable Keith Richards-manqué, the billion-dollar man himself, Johnny Depp. Because the hard-to-imagine is here: nobody's thinking about bringing on Johnny for the next one, at his reported $90-million per. Least of all Disney, who have just brought on the Deadpool writers Rhett Reese and Paul Wernick to pen the script for the sixth installment and, as described by Disney production czar Sean Bailey, to give the 16-year-old franchise "a kick in the pants." We might reasonably wonder, who's gonna wear the all the rings and smashed-up dangly hair and bracelets and that stiff leather bucket of a hat? Who's going to ignore all manner of deadly peril and still crack wise? Who's gonna give us Keith-with-a-sword, somehow funnier and better than Keith? How can it be matched, that insouciant, dancerly step from the topmast of his sinking ship to the dock in the opener lo these many years ago? Who's going to bring all that lovable, railing, vainglorious, high-ironic shtick? Apparently, nobody. Or, since the thing is just now being written, much less trailered, nobody's been thought of to do that yet. With the last release back in '15, we can examine the timeline and the bottom line for a few clues as to how this line of producer-think came about. As we know, Dead Men Tell No Tales is the absolute runt of the five-film Pirates litter, coming in as late as it did, plagued with script to-ing and fro-ing, and pulling a franchise-low $172-million domestic gross over a budget of $230-million. Let's not weep for Disney just yet, since the film pulled in a hearty $788-million worldwide. That's better than a half-billion dollars, or 200 per cent, earned on the quarter-billion-dollar budget. But, the trouble of getting there: The screenwriter for Dead Men was Jeff Nathanson, who delivered a soldierly, if extravagantly cobbled-together product while being saddled with -- you guessed it -- Johnny himself as a writing partner or very heavily-involved reader, take your pick. There are no bylines on the individual chunks of the Dead Men script, but when a producer is paying an enormously talented actor in the many millions, say ninety of them, and said actor has been in the role for a dozen years by that point, we can fairly estimate that the scenes involving his character would be some of the more highly wrought, if not overthought, set pieces ever to see the silver screen. If they weren't then just filmed at great cost and then cut. And in fact, Dead Men was narratively flatter and more attenuated than, say, the ebullient Black Pearl opening installment, which had so many bright, fun things to say about the folly of colonialism and the folly of everything else back in 2003, in the teeth of the second Iraq war. With Dead Men, in 2015, the audience voted with their feet, giving it the lowest opening weekend of the franchise. Nota bene: that still bumped in some $62-million, a figure that would have delighted any number of producers.

Da Deadline ‘Pirates of the Caribbean’ Reboot Back In Motion The Pirates of the Caribbean reboot has set sail once again. Deadline has confirmed that Disney has brought on Emmy-winning Chernobyl creator Craig Mazin and Ted Elliott, who co-wrote the first four Pirates films, to craft a story for a new Pirates movie. This comes after Rhett Reese and Paul Wernick, the Deadpool screenwriters who were originally hired to write the script for a sixth installment, dropped out earlier this year. The film is in the early development stage with producer Jerry Bruckheimer expected to return to the Johnny Depp-steered franchise. Depp launched the films as the bleary buccaneer Jack Sparrow but recent legal drama leaves it unclear on whether he will reprise his role. The films have collectively grossed over $4.5 billion worldwide.

Foto di Karen Gillan Foto di Redd nell'attrazione "Pirates of the Caribbean" Da AWN.com ‘Pirates of the Caribbean’ Reboot Rises from Davey Jones’ Locker ‘Chernobyl’ writer Craig Mazin joins Disney’s iconic franchise reboot, while Jack Sparrow sails solo into the horizon. Avast yee mateys! Craig Mazin (Chernobyl, The Hangover III) has joined the crew of the Pirates of the Caribbean reboot alongside longtime Pirates writer Ted Elliott. The script ran aground earlier this year when the original writers, partners Rhett Reese and Paul Wernick (Deadpool, Zombieland), jumped ship. The newest Pirates film is set to ignore the five previous films altogether… with Jack Sparrow (Johnny Depp) set not to reappear; he will officially become the worst pirate that no one has ever heard of. Speculation has it that Depp’s exclusion is most likely due to the serious, ongoing sexual abuse allegations made by his ex-wife Amber Heard (Aquaman, The Rum Diary) that first surfaced during their contentious divorce proceedings. Despite Sparrow’s cult following, Disney remains confident that the franchise will thrive without the swashbuckling Captain of the Black Pearl. Rumors strongly indicate that the reboot will be led by Karen Gillan (Jumanji and Guardians of the Galaxy) as Redd, the redheaded female pirate seen on the “Pirates of the Caribbean” ride. While the franchise will never be the same without our iconic captain, perhaps it’s time for audiences to set sail on a different Pirates adventure. Part of the ship, part of the crew! Now in early development, the new Pirates film will be led at the helm by longtime franchise producer Jerry Bruckheimer (Pirates of the Caribbean, National Treasure).

Da Inside the Magic
Zac Efron Rumored To Play Jack Sparrow In “Pirates of the Caribbean” Reboot It wasn’t that long ago that Disney fans everywhere had learned about the reboot of the popular film franchise, Pirates of the Caribbean. The last film of the franchise was only released a few years ago, in 2017, but this hasn’t stopped Disney from deciding to make a reboot! This isn’t surprising as the first film was very well-received by critics and fans and was an overall success. Fans were extremely excited each and every time Disney announced another Pirates of the Caribbean film so it only makes sense to keep the buzz going by creating another film. Overall, the Pirates of the Caribbean franchise grossed $4.5 billion worldwide, with each individual film performing very well at the box office. But with the reboot happening, it has left a lot of fans wondering what characters would be involved as well as who would portray these characters? Well, here’s what we know so far. What We Know So Far The reboot of the Pirates of the Caribbean is already in the process and it looks like it will involve new characters as well as original characters. According to some reports, Zac Efron is in talks of portraying the one and only, Jack Sparrow. Yes, the High School Musical actor may be filling the shoes of Johnny Depp and taking on the role of the clever pirate. The directors of the Pirates of the Caribbean film includes the creator of Chernobyl, Craig Mazin, who you also may know from The Hangover 2 and 3. Also returning is Ted Elliott, who is the veteran Pirates of the Caribbean screenwriter. Previously the writers of Deadpool and Zombieland, Rhett Reese and Paul Wernick, were on the project but they decided to back out. |

Altro rumour, Emma Watson futura piratessa?
Da We Got This Covered Harry Potter Star Reportedly Eyed To Lead Pirates Of The Caribbean Reboot Back in late 2018, it was revealed that Disney was letting Johnny Depp go from the Pirates of the Caribbean franchise and was looking to reboot it with a new female-led series. Initially, Deadpool scribes Rhett Reese and Paul Wernick were on hand to write, but they ultimately left the project, to be replaced by Chernobyl creator Craig Mazin and original screenwriter Terry Rossio. The plans’s still going ahead, then, but Disney just needs to find its new star. We Got This Covered has previously reported that Karen Gillan is in the running for the lead role, and according to our sources – the same ones who told us about the Bambi live-action movie months ago, before it was confirmed this week – Gillan is still being looked at, but another British actress has recently entered the fray, too. From what we understand, Disney is now reportedly considering former Harry Potter star Emma Watson to take over the sea-faring franchise from Depp as well. It’s unknown which of the actresses is the favorite or if there are any other major contenders in consideration at this time, but it’s been said that both of them are being eyed. Gillan makes a lot of sense as a prospective lead, considering her background in action-adventure movies, while Watson’s a slightly left-field choice. Of course, she’s been a major player in another successful fantasy-flavored franchise before now, but she didn’t have to do a whole lot of action and generally piratical behavior as Hermione Granger. Still, Watson’s a versatile performer, so there’s no reason she couldn’t pull off such a different role. If you’ll recall, our sources – the same ones who told us about an Aladdin sequel and National Treasure 3 being in the works before they were both confirmed – have also said that Disney is entertaining a separate idea for a reboot alongside this one. In case you missed it, we reported earlier this week that Zac Efron is one actor being looked at to play a young Jack Sparrow in a Pirates prequel TV show, which would land on Disney Plus. With all that in mind, are we about to get an MCU-like Pirates of the Caribbean universe made up of various spinoffs and sequels? That remains to be seen, but for now, it certainly sounds like the franchise is alive and well and fans will have much to look forward to over the coming years. Even if many are still upset that Depp is no longer involved. |

Dal sito Full Circle Cinema: ‘Pirates Of The Caribbean’ Reboot Interested In Karen Gillan For Lead Late last year, it was announced that Disney is planning to reboot its Pirates of the Caribbean franchise. Now, according to insider Daniel Richtman, Disney is eyeing Guardians of the Galaxy‘s Karen Gillan to star in the project. It was previously rumored that the studio was hoping to reboot the franchise with a female lead, and it appears that this is indeed the case. Gillan, if cast, would star as an adventurer after a lost treasure who is described as skilled, witty, and impulsive. The film is currently being written by Chernobyl creator Craig Mazin and Ted Elliott, who co-wrote the first four Pirates of the Caribbean movies, to craft a story for the franchise relaunch. Jerry Bruckheimer and Chad Oman are both signed on to produce with the studio still searching for a director to helm the project. Would you like to see Karen Gillan star in a Pirates of the Caribbean reboot? Are you interested in Disney relaunching the franchise? Let us know in the comment below! |

Stiamo all'erta...
Da The Disinsider ‘Pirates of the Caribbean’ Reboot Moving Forward With A Female Lead Back in 2018, reports surfaced that Disney was set to reboot their blockbuster franchise, Pirates of the Caribbean. Since then, fans have been wondering what would that mean for Johnny Depp’s Captain Jack Sparrow, well I can say don’t expect him to return. According to insider Daniel Richtman, studio is in fact going the reboot route, and are currently looking for a female lead, and one name at the top of Disney’s list to lead the reboot is Avengers: Endgame and Jumanji: The Next Level star Karen Gillan. This is something I can also confirm as I’ve heard rumblings of Gillan as early as last fall. As of now, it is unknown if the actress has had any formal talks with the studio, but the studio is definitely interested. Another tidbit I hear is that the studio is also considering women of color for the role. Character and story details are being kept under wraps. Though fan speculation will go wild now that Gillan’s name has been mentioned, there could be a possibility that the film will look to be centered on Redd, the popular female pirate featured in the Disney Parks attraction and is a meet-and-greet character. Pirates of the Caribbean Redd Disney Parks meet-and-greet character Via: (Josh Sudock/Disneyland Resort) Read: Exclusive: Disney Developing Live-Action ’Hercules’ Film With Some Possible Big Name Directors in The Mix Back in October, Disney tapped Chernobyl creator Craig Mazin and Ted Elliot, who wrote the previous Pirates films, to find a fresh new direction for the franchise. Jerry Bruckheimer and Chad Oman (Pirates of the Caribbean, National Treasure) will produce. A director has yet to be picked, but Disney has several names they’ve looked at, I won’t share the names I have heard for now, I’ll save that for a future scoop I’ve been working on. The budget on the film is north of $100M and is being made for a theatrical release, despite rumors of a Disney+ series. Though Depp’s involvement has yet to be addressed by Disney, this is indeed a reboot, so it is unlikely he returns. Back in 2018, President of Walt Disney Studios Motion Picture Production, Sean Bailey, spoke with The Hollywood Reporter regarding the reboot and avoided the question of Depp’s involvement, here’s what he had to say: “We want to bring in a new energy and vitality. I love the [Pirates] movies, but part of the reason Paul and Rhett are so interesting is that we want to give it a kick in the pants. And that’s what I’ve tasked them with.” The Pirates of the Caribbean franchise is one of the most financially successful of all time. The five films have grossed over $4.5 billion at the worldwide box office. The last movie Dead Men Tell No Tales ended up making $794.1M worldwide for the studio, dominating the Memorial Day weekend in 2017. |
