Around the World in 50 Years (nWave's Brussels produced)
StudioCanal and Universal Music Group (UMG) announced today a partnership for the upcoming 3D animated feature, Around the World in 50 Years. As part of this agreement, UMG will handle all North American theatrical, DVD, television and non-theatrical rights to the movie. Moreover, UMG will also handle the soundtrack album on a global basis. The film, "a buddy movie with turtles for the 21st century," is directed by Ben Stassen (Fly Me to the Moon) and is being produced at nWave's Brussels studio. The announcement of the deal follows straight after the film's presentation to an exclusive, invitation-only audience at Cannes, as part of the international sales rollout. The presentation - which included almost 15 minutes of spectacular "immersion" 3D footage - was crafted and presented by former Dreamworks marketing executive, Peter Dunne who has signed on as an animation consultant for Studio Canal. Olivier Courson, CEO of StudioCanal, said, "I am delighted about this partnership. We first approached our sister company Universal Music Group about the soundtrack which is so critical for an animated film, but Doug Morris (Chairman & CEO) was so enthusiastic that he decided not only to come on board for the music but also to become our partner for US distribution. We never even took the film to the market. This movie is another important step in our international production: 3D animation. We are happy to have partners within the Vivendi group who can bring together such a strong and diverse team of creative and marketing talent which this project deserves." Doug Morris commented, "When Jolene Cherry (Senior Vice President of A&R, Universal Records) first brought the film to my attention, I realized what a true gem it is. It combines the most innovative technology available today with great story-telling to convey an important environmental message. We are thrilled to be working with Olivier and his team on this important project." The soundtrack album to the movie will be created by Ms. Cherry and Vincent Herbert. Rodolphe Buet, EVP International Distribution for StudioCanal, stated, "We are thrilled to have secured such a great home for 'Around the World in 50 Years.' We have long recognized that international success in family entertainment relies on a great US release, and this deal allows us to begin work right away with our partners in putting together a first-class marketing, licensing and promotional campaign for the film." Harold Van Lier, StudioCanal's EVP, International Sales added, "With such a strong commitment from our US partner, and our own distribution in the major part of Europe, our sales campaign has got off to a really strong start, and I'm confident that we will secure our other distribution partners very quickly." Around the World in 50 Years will be released in North America and internationally in Q4 2010. thanks to giagia |

Me and My Shadow (Dreamworks Animation)
http://www.comingsoon.net/news/movienews.php?id=72292 DreamWorks Animation Announces Me and My Shadow Source: DreamWorks Animation December 10, 2010 DreamWorks Animation SKG, Inc. today announced that it will bring Me and My Shadow, an original project, to the big screen in March of 2013. The studio will pioneer a groundbreaking combination of both CG and traditional animation techniques, which will be used seamlessly together throughout this 3D feature film. Mark Dindal (Chicken Little, The Emperor's New Groove) is the film's director and Melissa Cobb (Kung Fu Panda, Kung Fu Panda 2) and Teresa Cheng (Shrek Forever After, Spirit: Stallion of the Cimarron) are serving as producers. Shane Prigmore (Coraline, "The Lord of the Rings") is head of story and Scott Wills (Monsters vs. Aliens, "Ren & Stimpy") and Raymond Zibach (Kung Fu Panda, The Road to El Dorado) are production designers. Nick Fletcher (Shrek Forever After, The Prince of Egypt) is serving as editor. The screenplay for Me and My Shadow, which was originally penned by both Steve Bencich and Ron Friedman (Chicken Little, Open Season), is currently being revised by writing team Tom Astle and Matt Ember (Get Smart). "We are proud to have assembled a world-class creative team of filmmakers and artists – all of whom have vast experience on both computer generated and traditionally animated films – who is already well along in the production of 'Me and My Shadow,'" said Bill Damaschke, co-president of production for DreamWorks Animation. "Together, we are embarking on an exciting goal to break new creative ground at DreamWorks Animation by combining the time-honored tradition of hand drawn animation with the magical sophistication of CG characters and worlds in ways that have never been experienced by audiences before." Me and My Shadow tells the story of Shadow Stan, an extremely frustrated shadow who yearns for a dynamic life but happens to be stuck with Stanley Grubb, the world's most boring human. Finally pushed to the brink, Shadow Stan breaks the singular rule of the Shadow World ("They lead, we follow"), and takes control of Stanley! The original 3D toon will seamlessly combine CG and traditional animation, marking a first for the company. "The way 'Who Framed Roger Rabbit' combined hand-drawn and live-action, this does the same, but with CG and hand-drawn," said Bill Damaschke, DWA co-prexy of production. "Shadow" tells the story of Shadow Stan, an incredibly frustrated shadow that yearns for a more dynamic life but happens to be stuck with Stanley Grubb, the world's most boring human.Eventually pushed to the brink, Shadow Stan breaks the singular rule of the Shadow World -- "they lead, we follow" -- and takes control of Stanley. Steve Bencich and Ron Friedman's original screenplay is being revised by the writing team of Tom Astle and Matt Ember ("Get Smart"). According to Damaschke, the creative team behind the film "are all ambidextrous, in a way. Everybody has a significant 2D movie and a significant 3D movie under their belt." Helmer Mark Dindal previously co-directed CG feature "Chicken Little" and hand-drawn pic "The Emperor's New Groove." Producers are Teresa Cheng ("Shrek Forever After," "Spirit: Stallion of the Cimarron") and Melissa Cobb, who hails from Fox Animation and produced the "Kung Fu Panda" franchise for DWA. Other members of the team include head of story Shane Prigmore. It's an ambitious effort for the studio, which also blended traditional toon elements with CG for one sequence in "Kung Fu Panda." Although DreamWorks Animation's previous hand-drawn toon was "Spirit" in 2002, Damaschke estimated that half the studio's animators have 2D experience. "Shadow" will combine "the time-honored tradition of hand-drawn animation with the magical sophistication of CG characters and worlds in ways that have never been experienced by audiences before," Damaschke said. He said the team is already well along in production. In the toon, the Shadow and everything in the Shadow World will be hand-drawn, while the human character and human world will be CG. The movie will alternate between the two worlds. "It will be super-challenging but very cool," Damaschke said. Production designers are Scott Wills and Raymond Zibach. Nick Fletcher is editor. thanks to giagia |

Maintenance (Dreamworks Animation)
http://www.hollywoodreporter.com/blogs/hea...ie-rights-61365 EXCLUSIVE: DreamWorks Animation Nabs Movie Rights to 'Maintenance' Comic December 17 Sneaking in one last deal before Hollywood shuts down for the holidays, DreamWorks Animation has picked up the movie rights to Maintenance, an Oni Press comic book, nabbing it out of turnaround from Warner Bros. The comic, published by Oni in December, 2006, followed the exploits of two janitors who work for TerroMax, Inc., the world's biggest and best evil science think tank. When they're not dealing with toxic spill monsters and menial time machine repairs, they have to contend with their boss, a multitude of mad scientists, jetpack-equipped cavemen, alien repomen, and the cute girl who works at reception The comic was written by Jim Massey and illustrated by Robbi Rodriguez. Whilst at Warners, Maintenance was being developed as a directing vehicle for McG, who was also producing via his Wonderland Sound and Vision banner. Joe Ballarini worked on the script. While it’s unclear why exactly Warners let it go, the humorous and pop cultural-referencing tone combined with a large scope described in Maintenance may be best suited for the animated world. And it seems like a project perfectly matched for DWA, which has had great success with similarly themed movies such as 2009’s Monsters vs. Aliens and the recent Superman-infused Megamind. Maintenance is coming into DWA free and clear, with no writer, director or producers attached. thanks to giagia |

Oz Wars (Vanguard Animation produced )
http://www.comingsoon.net/news/movienews.php?id=72433 Mike Johnson to Helm Animated Oz Wars Source: Vanguard December 15, 2010 John Williams, President and CEO of Vanguard Films, announced today the company has signed Oscar and Annie Award-nominee Mike Johnson, co-director of Corpse Bride, to direct its CG/stop-motion hybrid feature film, Oz Wars. "Mike Johnson is a spectacular director and one of the masters of stop-motion," says Williams. "We all think 'Oz Wars' is a wildly original and commercial project that will thrill and astonish audiences. Additionally, due to revolutionary new stop-motion software, Mike will be making this world-class quality film at an unprecedentedly economical cost point." Oz Wars, written by Rob Moreland (Space Chimps 1 & 2 and Vanguard's upcoming live action City of Dragons) and Athena Gam (Vanguard's recently announced Alien Rock Band), transforms the Oz narrative into a contemporary, freaky action-packed PG-13 audience pleaser, with Dorothy caught up in a whirlwind of warrior witches, black magic, martial arts and monsters. "'Oz Wars' is an animated action-adventure story, but unlike most animated films, it's not just for kids," Johnson says. "The Land of Oz will be re-imagined using stop-motion to create a world that's dark, slick, sexy, and dangerous. It's long been a goal of mine to create a hard-hitting, grown-up action film using stop-motion animation. 'Oz Wars' is my opportunity to do that." The announcement comes on the heels of an ambitious Vanguard production slate released at AFM which includes CG, live action and CG/live action hybrids. Vanguard recently announced an overall producing/directing deal with Kung Fu Panda co-director John Stevenson, whose first Vanguard directorial project will be Alien Rock Band, a live action/CGI hybrid, with musician Dave Stewart (Eurythmics) attached as a producer. A veteran animator and director, Texas-native Mike Johnson won the British Animation Award and earned Oscar and Annie Award nominations (with co-director Tim Burton) for his feature film Corpse Bride. As an animator his credits include The Nightmare Before Christmas, James and the Giant Peach and the Emmy Award-wining children's series "Bump in the Night." Johnson's directing credits also include episodes of the Emmy Award-winning television series "The P.J.'s," and the award-winning short The Devil Went Down To Georgia, which he also produced.
