Dal sito The DisInsider:

EXCLUSIVE: Disney Looking At People Of Color For The Role Of Jasper In CRUELLA

Almost two years ago it was reported that Emma Stone signed on to star in a Cruella De Vil origin story tentatively titled Cruella with Alex Timbers (Mozart In The Jungle) set to direct. Since then we have heard almost nothing on the project. Now we have learned some interesting details on a classic character.

We have learned that Disney is looking for an African American to take on the role of Jasper. Partner of Horace (Who is expected be caucasian) and would go on to be Cruella’s henchmen.

Disney is not afraid to make racial changes to any of their classic animated films. As we reported a little over a month ago that the studio is looking at people of color for roles in their live-action adaptation of The Little Mermaid.

Estella (Cruella De Vil) lives on the streets of 1970’s London with other hoodlums, where we learn the real origins behind Estella’s hatred of Dalmatians. Production on the film is expected to begin at the end of the year but as of right now, there is no release date set for Cruella.

However in the meantime, there is plenty to look forward to from Disney, as later this year they will bring us Christopher Robin, Nutcracker and the Four Realms and Mary Poppins Returns. Additionally, the studio has three live-action/remakes currently in post-production with Dumbo, Aladdin, Lion King, and also the holiday film Noelle, all set for release in 2019. Although, that’s not the only projects Disney reportedly have on the slate, as Mulan, The Jungle Cruise, Maleficent 2, Artemis Fowl and Sword In The Stone will start production this year.

Da The Hollywood Reporter

'I, Tonya' Director in Early Talks to Tackle Cruella de Vil Movie for Disney

Emma Stone is set to star.
Craig Gillespie, who last directed I, Tonya, is in early talks to helm Cruella, a live-action take on the 101 Dalmatians villainess.

Alex Timbers was on board to direct the project, which has Emma Stone set to play the dog-hating fashionista, but the Mozart of the Jungle co-creator ran into scheduling issues. Timbers, who is also a theater director, has two major productions opening on Broadway next year, Moulin Rouge and Beetlejuice.

Andrew Gunn is producing Cruella with Marc Platt. Kristin Burr, who just wrapped shooting Dora the Explorer, is also producing.

Stone will play infamous villain Cruella De Vil in what is being billed as an origin story, set in the early 1980s with a punk vibe.

De Vil was first seen in the 1961 animated classic 101 Dalmatians. Glenn Close played her in the 1996 live-action film produced by John Hughes, which featured the character as the head of a fashion house.

Gillespie's I, Tonya was the 2017 Tonya Harding biopic that earned Margot Robbie an Oscar nomination and Allison Janney a best supporting actress Oscar win. He is well-versed in the Disney ways, having helmed The Finest Hours and Million Dollar Arm for the studio. Other credits include the 2011 Fright Night remake and Lars and the Real Girl.

EXCLUSIVE: Dev Patel Circling Disney’s ‘Cruella’ In A New Take On A Classic Role

Disney is looking to get production kicked off on their live-action 101 Dalmatians prequel tentatively titled Cruella, starring Emma Stone in the title role. According to a trusted source, the studio is interested in Slumdog Millionaire star Dev Patel. It is unclear have talks between Patel and Disney have begun, but he is high on their list.

If Patel signs he would take on the role of “Raj” aka Roger. Fans of the animated 101 Dalmatians and the 90’s live-action remake, know Roger as the owner of Pongo, who helps Roger meet and fall in love with his wife Anita. Other classic characters from 101 Dalmatians expected to appear in the film include Cruella’s bumbling henchmen Jasper and Horace, and we hear the studio is looking for an African American actor for the role of Jasper.

Last month it was revealed that Aquaman star Nicole Kidman is Disney’s top choice for the role of the “Baroness,” an antagonist to Cruella who’s thought to be pivotal in her transformation to the villain we know today. Though Kidman appears to be the favorite, the outlet also states she isn’t the only big name who’s still in this race, with Emma Thompson, Charlize Theron, Julianne Moore, and Demi Moore all believed to be in the running for the role.

Production on the project is expected to begin this summer. I, Tonya director Craig Gillespie will helm the project from a script from Tony McNamara (The Favorite). The script is still being worked on. The studio was hoping to lock down a 2020 release it has not been confirmed if that has changed as of yet.

Da Variety

Emma Thompson in Talks to Join Emma Stone in Disney’s ‘Cruella’ (EXCLUSIVE)

Emma Thompson is in early talks to star opposite Emma Stone in the Disney’s “Cruella,” a live-action origin story based on the classic “101 Dalmatians” villain Cruella de Vil.

“I, Tonya” director Craig Gillespie is helming the film with Marc Platt, Kristin Burr and Andrew Gunn producing.

De Vil, who will be played by Stone in the new pic, is the villain who was obsessed with capturing the puppies in the 1961 animated classic “101 Dalmatians.” Glenn Close played the baddie in the 1996 live-action film produced by John Hughes, in which her character was also the head of a fashion house.

It’s currently unknown where this movie will pick up in de Vil’s timeline, as is the role Thompson would be playing.

Tony McNamara penned the most recent version of the script with Dana Fox writing a previous draft. Disney recently announced the film would be released on Dec. 23, 2020, signaling the project’s pre-production.

This wouldn’t be the first time that Thompson’s taken a role in one of Disney’s live-action adaptations. She previously played Mrs. Potts in 2017 box office smash “Beauty and the Beast,” and also played “Mary Poppins” author P.L. Travers in “Saving Mr. Banks” alongside Tom Hanks.

Thompson has a busy summer ahead of her with Amazon Studios comedy “Late Night” and “Men in Black: International,” both of which bow on June 7. She is repped by CAA and Hamilton Hodell.

News:

Jenny Beavan:

CRUELLA (Disney), dir. Craig Gillespie

Dal sito The GWW:

EMMA STONE’S ‘CRUELLA’ ENLISTS COSTUME DESIGNER JENNY BEAVAN (‘MAD MAX: FURY ROAD’, ‘CHRISTOPHER ROBIN’)

‘Cruella,’ another one of Disney’s live-action reimaginings, now has costume designer Jenny Beavan onboard. The film is a different take on the ‘101 Dalmations’ franchise, and will star Emma Stone as the titular character.

Last year, Beavan was part of two Disney films, with ‘Christopher Robin’ and ‘The Nutcracker and the Four Realms.’ Other films include the Guy Ritchie ‘Sherlock Holmes’ films, Tom Hooper’s ‘The King’s Speech,’ and George Miller’s ‘Mad Max: Fury Road.’ Next, she has Stephen Gaghan’s ‘The Voyage of Doctor Dolittle,’ releasing January 17, 2020, and Daniel Espinosa’s ‘Morbius,’ releasing July 31, 2020.

Emma Thompson (‘Saving Mr. Banks,’ ‘Beauty and the Beast’) is in early talks to play the film’s antagonist. If she signs, she will portray the Baroness, who is pivotal to Cruella’s rise as the classic Disney villain.

Meanwhile, Dev Patel (‘The Newsroom,’ ‘Lion’) is circling the role of “Raj” aka Roger, the owner of Pongo, who helps Roger meet and fall in love with his wife Anita.

Additionally, there are some casting details on the duo that serve as Cruella’s henchman. An African American actor may fill the role of Jasper, while his partner Horace will likely be Caucasian.

Moreover, Craig Gillespie (‘Lars and the Real Girl,’ ‘I, Tonya’) will serve as director. He replaces Alex Timbers (‘Mozart in the Jungle,’ ‘John Mulaney: Kid Gorgeous at Radio City’), who was part of the film for awhile, but had to depart due to scheduling issues.

Tony McNamara (‘Ashby,’ ‘The Favourite’) wrote the recent draft of the screenplay. The previous draft was from Dana Fox (‘How to be Single,’ ‘Isn’t It Romantic’).

The logline is below:
‘Estella (Stone), before she becomes Cruella De Vil, lives on the streets of 1980’s London with other hoodlums, where we learn the real origins behind Estella’s hatred of Dalmatians.”
Further, filming will begin July 9th and wrap this November in London, England.

‘Cruella’ will release on December 23, 2020.

Da The Knowledge Online:

Cruella readies UK shoot

Cruella, Disney’s latest live-action film inspired by one of their cartoon characters, is readying for production in the UK.

Emma Stone stars as the eponymous super-villain Cruella de Vil in the feature that is directed by Craig Gillespie from a screenplay by Kelly Marcel and Steve Zissis. Jez Butterworth, Aline Brosh McKenna and Dana Fox were also involved in the writing process.

Disney’s production footprint in the UK has been growing over the years as the company expands its canon of live-action remakes, mainly using Pinewood Studios as its base.

Artemis Fowl, Maleficent 2 and Aladdin are among the most recent feature films to have shot in the UK for the US studio giant.

Cruella is one of several major inward investment projects currently based in the UK; others include Jingle Jangle, The Great, Eurovision and Fast & Furious 9.

Da People:

A report in the Sun also claimed that the injury has negatively impacted her role in Disney’s live-action film Cruella because she was ordered by doctors to rest for two months. But another insider tells PEOPLE that her injury will not affect her upcoming role.
“Production hadn’t started so this is not causing any major issues. They are still in pre-production and she’ll begin once healed,” the insider adds.

Dal sito The Wrap:

Paul Walter Hauser in Talks to Join Emma Stone in Disney’s ‘Cruella’ (Exclusive)

“I, Tonya” director Craig Gillespie is set to direct

Paul Walter Hauser (“I, Tonya,” “BlackKkKlansman”) is in talks to join “Cruella,” the live-action Cruella de Vil movie starring Emma Stone, an individual with knowledge of the project told TheWrap.

Hauser, who is up for the role of Roger, has booked the lead and title role for Warner Bros. “Richard Jewell,” based on the story of a security guard who was considered a suspect in the bombing that took place Atlanta’s Centennial Park during the 1996 Summer Olympics. According to an insider with knowledge of both projects, “Cruella” is eyeing a September start date that would enable Hauser to shoot both films back to back.

“I, Tonya” director Craig Gillespie is set to direct. Gillespie previously directed the films “Million Dollar Arm” and “The Finest Hours” for Disney. Tony McNamara wrote the most recent draft of the script. Marc Platt and Andrew Gunn are producing the film. Disney has slated “Cruella” to open on Dec. 23, 2020.

Stone will star in what’s pegged as something of a prequel to “101 Dalmatians” as a young Cruella before she schemed to skin the black-and-white spotted puppies for her fur coat.

Glenn Close previously played the black-and-white-haired Cruella in a 1996 live-action adaptation based on the 1961 animated classic. She reprised the role in the 2000 sequel, “102 Dalmatians.”

Recently, Hauser reunited with Spike Lee post-“BlackKklansman,” and just wrapped Netflix’s “Da 5 Bloods.” Hauser can also be seen in Amazon’s and Mindy Kaling’s “Late Night,” and in Chris Robinson’s hip-hop drama “Beats” also on Netflix.

Hauser is represented by CAA, Artists First, Kovert Creative, and Schreck Rose Dapello Adams Berlin & Dunham.

Questo quanto dice The Wrap.

It’s unknown where “Cruella” will pick up in de Vil’s timeline. Details of Hauser’s role are also unknown.

Skyler Shuler @Skylerhxc: For those asking, Hauser will play Horace, who becomes one of Cruella’s henchmen. Jasper is expected to be played by a black actor.

Paul Walter Hauser is heading for Disney's Cruella. The movie will seem Hauser reteam with I, Tonya director Craig Gillespie, who is directing the live-action take on the 1961 animated classic 101 Dalmatians. Hauser will be playing a character named Horace. The most recent script comes from Tony McNamara. Andrew Gunn is producing Cruella with Marc Platt. Kristin Burr is also producing.

Dal sito Disinsider:

Cruella

We expect the studio to officially announce the full cast with a logo reveal, and teaser poster, and that’s about it, as the film won’t be going into production until September.

Directed by Craig Gillespie (I, Tonya), the film is set to star Emma Stone as the classic Disney villain, with Emma Thompson as the Baroness, and Paul Walter Hauser as Horace.

Cruella will is scheduled to play in theaters on December 23, 2020.

Disney’s ‘Cruella’ Casts Joel Fry as Jasper (EXCLUSIVE)

Joel Fry is set to play Jasper in Disney’s “Cruella,” a live-action origin story based on the classic “101 Dalmatians” villain Cruella de Vil.

In the original cartoon, Jasper was one of the bumbling crooks who along with his cohort Horace, kidnapped the 101 dalmatians for Cruela Dev Vil. Paul Walter Hauser will be playing Horace in the upcoming film. Emma Stone is portraying Cruella De Vil, the villain who is obsessed with capturing the titular puppies. The cast also includes Emma Thompson.

“Cruella,” directed by “I, Tonya” filmmaker Craig Gillespie, will hit theaters Dec. 23, 2020.

Tony McNamara penned the most recent version of the script, with Dana Fox having written a previous draft. Marc Platt, Kristin Burr and Andrew Gunn are producing the film.

Live-action adaptations of Disney classics have continued to be a major money-maker for the studio with “Aladdin” and “The Lion King” both crossing the billion dollar mark at the global box office.

Fry, who recently appeared in Universal’s musical romantic comedy “Yesterday,” has a handful of films in production including “Love, Wedding, Repeat” starring Olivia Munn and Sam Claflin. His other credits include “Paddington 2,” “Benjamin” and Hizdahr zo Loraq on HBO’s “Game of Thrones.”

He is repped by Will Hollinshead and Liv Shean at Independent Talent.
