Oltre all'adattamento con Chloe Moretz, Hollywood sta preparando anche un altro live action tratto da La sirenetta, favola immortale di Hans Christian Andersen. Nel cast, la giovane Poppy Drayton e la veterana Shirley MacLaine
Ottime notizie per i fan di La sirenetta, amatissima favola di Hans Christian Andersen poi trasformata in un cartone animato da Walt Disney. Sappiamo già che Universal e Working Title stanno lavorando su un adattamento live action con Chloe Moretz come protagonista, e adesso, ecco l’annuncio di un secondo film in arrivo, il quale sarà invece curato da MVP Studios.
La regia della nuova trasposizione è stata affidata a Chris Bouchard, mentre nel cast avremo Poppy Drayton (che i fan delle serie tv conosceranno per Shannara Chronicles, dove interpreta Amberle Elessedil), Loreto Peralta (Intructions Not Included) e la grande Shirley MacLaine (Voglia di tenerezza, L’appartamento).
Le riprese del film partiranno a marzo, ma per adesso ancora nessun dettaglio è stato svelato sulla data d’uscita

MVP Studios said today it is kicking off production next month on the live-action family pic A Little Mermaid, which will serve as the first project for the new company founded by Robert Molloy, who is the grandson of former New York Yankees owner George Steinbrenner, and producer Armando Gutierrez. Poppy Drayton, Loreto Peralta and Shirley MacLaine are set to star in Mermaid, with Chris Bouchard directing. The film will be shot in Georgia for a 2017 release.
In the Blake Harris-penned screenplay, a young orphan (Peralta) discovers a beautiful and enchanting creature (played by Drayton) she believes to be the real “Little Mermaid.” MacLaine will play Eloise, an eccentric woman who has intimate knowledge of the story. Molloy and Gutierrez (Walt Before Mickey) are producing via their Tampa-based MVP Studios, which is also prepping a Lou Gehrig biopic.
“We’re thrilled to be launching MVP Studios with A Little Mermaid, a magical adventure that uses the beloved fairy tale as its jumping off point, but is an all-new story with all-new characters that the entire family can enjoy,” the producers said in a statement.

Carino! Il tono sarà decisamente diverso dal film Universal
E' quello che avrebbe dovuto essere diretto dalla Coppola?
Comunque Shirlei Mac lain sarà di sicuro la strega del mare, ma credo sarà una versione più vicina all'originale e qui la strega dopo la trasformazione sparisce quasi del tutto.

Non credo, da quello che so era quello con la Moretz che doveva essere diretto da Coppola.
Il film con la Moretz doveva essere diretto dalla Coppola, ma ora non è più coinvolta nel progetto.
Questo film nuovo si basa sulla Sirenetta di Andersen ma si racconterà una storia nuova e ci saranno anche dei nuovi personaggi, almeno da quanto si legge negli articoli.

Più o meno come la Disney si stanno prendendo delle licenze sulla storia?
Sì, ma più che altro sarà una storia tutta nuova. Da quanto sembra ci sarà solo la Sirenetta come personaggio della fiaba, e forse la Strega del Mare e il Re del Mare.

A Little Mermaid centers on Elle (Peralta), a young orphan who discovers a beautiful and enchanting creature (Drayton) she believes to be the real “Little Mermaid.” Moseley will play Cam Harrison, Elle’s overprotective older brother who has come to the U.S. to live after the deaths of her parents. A newspaperman, he is sent to a small Mississippi town on an assignment to find out more about some mysterious healing waters and ends up learning more than he ever imagined about the power of love, belief and magic — both light and dark.

Classica trama moderna senza nessun'attinenza alla storia, a parte la presenza di una tipa qualsiasi con la coda
Bocciato! 
Dalla trama sembra un sequel/spin-off della fiaba. Magari viene fuori un film carino. Vedremo.
Certo anche noi l'avremmo preferito ambientato nel passato.
Comunque non si capisce come mai La Sirenetta non la facciano mai in costume in versione live-action, ad oggi è una delle poche fiabe che non ha una trasposizione live-action in costume conosciuta (perchè Splash è famoso come film ma anche lì è una versione moderna).
Speriamo che la Universal metta in produzione la sua versione e speriamo che la Disney si svegli a fare il remake live-action della Sirenetta, così almeno quello sarà in costume.

Beh, però qualcosina c'è stato: l'episodio delle "6 auf einen Streich", tra l'altro bellissimo, e anche quello della serie "Nel regno delle fiabe"
O il film russo del 1976, anche se quello prendeva un pò spunto dal folklore locale, oltre che dalla fiaba di Andersen, e quindi ci sono stati dei cambiamenti

The Savannah Film office has released this casting call for a new movie being filmed in Savannah called “A Little Mermaid,” a live-action retelling of the Hans Christian Andersen fairy tale.
Here’s what the film office says:
Casting Extras for the Independent Feature Film “A Little Mermaid” starring Shirley MacLaine, William Moseley (The Chronicles of Narnia), Poppy Drayton (Shannara Chronicles) and Loreto Peralta.
Shooting in Savannah, GA. NOW through MAY. We are casting 100’s of extras to be wardrobed for a scene taking place in the South during the 1930’s/40’s.
Must be available weekdays and be located in Savannah or willing to travel here. We are also looking for Circus performers, sword swallowers, fire eaters, jugglers, ODDITIES of all kinds (bearded woman, 500 LBS man or woman, Side Show Freaks, etc.) so if you have any special skills – let us know!

Last week, we took you behind the scenes. This week, we have exclusive interviews with the cast and crew of "A Little Mermaid."
The film, based on the Hans Christian Anderson novel, was filmed in Savannah, Tybee, Pooler and Garden City, from March until last Friday. Featuring mermaids and oddities, we caught up with the young woman who plays "Elle," and the crew members to talk about the movie - and Savannah.
"I love this version. It is the best version I've heard because it's set in the 1930's, and I get to wear these cool costumes. We are shooting in Savannah, Georgia, a state just erupting with film and television opportunities. It is great," said Loreto Peralta, "Elle", "A Little Mermaid."
"A Little Mermaid is now in post production, and should hit theaters next year.

Last week, we took you behind the scenes. This week, we have exclusive interviews with the cast and crew of "A Little Mermaid."
The film, based on the Hans Christian Anderson novel, was filmed in Savannah, Tybee, Pooler and Garden City, from March until last Friday. Featuring mermaids and oddities, we caught up with the young woman who plays "Elle," and the crew members to talk about the movie - and Savannah.
"I love this version. It is the best version I've heard because it's set in the 1930's, and I get to wear these cool costumes. We are shooting in Savannah, Georgia, a state just erupting with film and television opportunities. It is great," said Loreto Peralta, "Elle", "A Little Mermaid."
"A Little Mermaid is now in post production, and should hit theaters next year.

Il cast è davvero molto valido. E anche la storia da come è stata presentata è bella.
Bella la trama della doppia Sirenetta: una la vera e propria Sirenetta della fiaba e l'altra la ragazza nata sulla terra con il cuore di una sirena che si racconta nelle fiabe delle sirene.
Comunque il titolo è cambiato da A Little Mermaid a The Little Mermaid.

Anche Universal sta preparando il proprio adattamento live-action che aveva Chloe Moretz protagonista, prima che l'attrice abbandonasse il progetto. Anche se resta da vedere cosa accadrà con questi progetti, c'è un nuovo film live-action dal titolo "La Sirenetta" di cui vi proponiamo un primo trailer ufficiale.
Questo film live-action prodotto da Conglomerate Media e Kingsway Productions non ha ancora una data di uscita, ma è atteso al debutto entro la fine dell'anno, forse questa estate, ma non vi è nulla di confermato. Da segnalare che questa storia ha un approccio molto diverso rispetto a quello della fiaba originale di Hans Christian Andersen.
Questa storia è incentrata su un giovane reporter (William Moseley) e la sua giovane sorella (Loreto Peralta) che viaggiano ad una piccola città nel Mississippi per trovare la ragazza che si dice essere la vera Sirenetta (Poppy Drayton). Si scopre che le sirene stesse hanno una loro favola, che parla di una ragazza che è nata sulla terra, ma che ha il cuore di una sirena, che potrebbe essere la giovane sorella del giornalista. Insieme questi fratelli cercano di salvare la Sirenetta dal nefasto leader di un luna-park che ha catturato parte dell'anima della sirena.

Sì, quella della Universal, inizialmente proposta a Chloe Moretz. Se la Disney si spiccia, questa della Universal è facile salterà, proprio come accadde con la Bella e la Bestia di Del Toro, che si vide scippare la Watson dalla Disney.
Molto carina l'idea della doppia Sirenetta, in generale sembra un progetto interessante. Peccato per il titolo poco originale, si rischia di fare confusione tra tutti questi adattamenti! Speriamo che la Disney si sbrighi...
Sono curioso perché sembra una storia originale non la solita trita ritrita... anche se mi piacerebbe una sirenetta in linea con l'originale, quella disney sicuramente avrà l'immancabile lieto fine.

Less than a year into her modeling career, Alexis Marie says she’s still learning the business, but already she’s got some lessons down. For instance, “when you go to a casting, you should wear heels,” she says, something she learned when she didn’t get a particular gig.
But Marie, 22, a Boca Raton Community High School graduate, did get another gig: She will be featured in “The Little Mermaid,” which premieres on Netflix this summer.
The live-action movie is based on the Hans Christian Andersen tale rather than the 1989 animated Disney version, featuring Shirley MacLaine, Gina Gershon, “The Royals” star William Moseley and English actress Poppy Drayton.
Marie has also appeared in a shoot for Italian fashion magazine Vitrine, and has done some runway modeling as well.
“Alexis has the potential and look to go all the way to the top,” says Rasheed Alli, the founder and managing partner of Miami’s DAS Model Management. “She has no ego or inhibitions and she has a very humble and vibrant personality that is contagious.”
As with most of the best discovery stories, Marie’s journey to the business involves a lot of coincidence - “It just happened,” she says.
Growing up a tall, pretty girl, she says people had suggested she check out modeling “but I had never been to an agency. I thought I knew what they were about, that it would be a pessimistic experience, like they would always be telling me something wrong with me. I didn’t have an idea how to start.”
Instead, after her high school graduation, Marie initially considered going to college “but then decided not to. School wasn’t my thing. I can go back at any time, but I decided I wanted to fully focus on whatever I was doing, not be half and half. I have to be fully into it.”
Instead of a formal education, she started reading “a lot of personal development books, a lot of self-help books, like ‘How To Win Friends and Influence People.’” With that motivation, she decided “I wanted to be my own boss,” and started working in direct vitamin and nutrition sales, something she did for a little more than a year, before getting a gig as an assistant to Ed Arenas, a Miami casting director.
It was with that job that her acting career began. She started working in the production office for “The Little Mermaid” and asked “if they minded if I auditioned. Ask and ye shall receive,’” she says, smiling.
Marie landed the small role of Margaret, a (non-mermaid) 1950s secretary with a period costume and Boston accent. Margaret works for Moseley, whose niece finds a young woman she believes to be a mermaid. Although it’s not a big part, Marie says she’s proud “to have landed my first speaking role in my first movie. Some actresses can go 20 years and not get a speaking role.”
She shot for one very long 12-hour day, “playing scenes in the heat” in Savannah, Georgia last May, and continues to work on modeling gigs.
Although she prefers to be natural, Marie has done some more avant-garde work, like a shoot “where I had gold on my eyelashes, which was pretty crazy, but it came off pretty easy. I was surprised. And I’ve had insects on my eyes.”
She says that acting is “more strict, more serious” than modeling, which allows you “to live out a character you have in your head.”
Even though she’s just started, Alli says he and DAS expect big things for her - “Paolo (Buonfante), our head of talent and booking, says Alexis has a $300 million face. That means a lot from someone who has helped launch the careers of Heidi Klum, Claudia Schiffer and Eva Herzigova.”
Marie says she’d like to do more acting as well as modeling, and says that she hopes one day to “book some sort of campaign that requires me to travel. I’d love to go to Paris. That’s where I’d like to conquer first.”
And should she get the chance, you know she’ll have the proper footwear.

Drayton, who stars in the titular role said in previous interviews that she’s hugely fascinated with mermaids. Moseley who has visited the Philippines previously said in local interviews that the movie didn’t have the same budget as Disney’s but it’s also a film with a lot of heart.
A very different “The Little Mermaid” splashes in Philippine cinemas nationwide on August 8 from Axinite Digicinema.

Questa è proprio una storia nuova... non è la classica trasposizione.
Sì è differente perchè questo film è di fatto il seguito della fiaba di Andersen.
Se noti dal trailer si vede che la fiaba è raccontata a cartoni animati, quindi la parte dopo è il seguito.
Tra l'altro i due protagonisti (la Sirenetta e il giornalista che ha il ruolo del principe) sono bellissimi davvero!

Robert Molloy sees similarities between Major League Baseball teams and movie productions.
"The actors are the ball players," he said. "Production designers are like those who work in operations." A director is akin to the manager, he added, crew is like the coaching staff, and an executive producer is parallel to a team owner.
Molloy, a 26-year-old lifelong Tampa resident, speaks from experience.
The live action independent film The Little Mermaid he produced through his Tampa-based Kingsway Productions will premiere today to a full house at Tampa Theatre. It opens nationwide Aug. 17.
As for baseball, the maternal side of Molloy’s bloodline is the most famous sports team owners of all time: the Steinbrenners.
His mother Jessica Steinbrenner is general partner and co-vice chairwoman of the New York Yankees. And his grandfather is "The Boss" himself — the late George Steinbrenner, who as owner was often as entertaining as the on-field product.
"My grandpa was a showman," said Molloy, also the assistant director of operations at Tampa’s Steinbrenner Field, home to the minor league Tampa Yankees and where the New York Yankees compete during spring training. "So, I think he would love what I am doing."
Filmed almost entirely in and around Savannah, Ga., in 2016 for about $5 million, the movie starring William Moseley, Shirley MacLaine and Gina Gershon is far different than the Walt Disney animated classic.
In this adaptation, a reporter seeking to learn the truth behind a miracle tonic called "mermaid water" discovers what his niece says is a real mermaid held prisoner in a circus.
Molloy’s film and Disney’s are both based loosely on the Hans Christian Andersen fairy tale of the same name about a young mermaid who gives up her life in the sea to earn a human soul.
"The book is a little dark but a great story," said Molloy, a graduate of Tampa Preparatory School and Saint Leo University. It "was one of my favorites growing up."
Still, it was baseball that brought Molloy to the movie industry and prepared him for it.
Molloy said he has long had Hollywood ambitions. Around three years ago, he was approached by his filmmaker friend Armando Gutierrez about executive producing a project based on the Yankees.
Gutierrez had purchased the movie rights to the book The Luckiest Man that details Lou Gehrig’s battle with the amyotrophic lateral sclerosis disease that ended the career and ultimately the life of the Yankee known as the "Iron Horse."
"He is my favorite Yankee," Molloy said. "I thought it was a great idea."
Still, cameras would not be ready to roll on that production until late 2019. Bitten by the Hollywood bug, Molloy was intent on making a movie sooner than later.
So, he chose The Little Mermaid as his inaugural film. And while he shares an executive producer credit with his mother, Molloy did the heavy lifting.
"It was him from the very beginning," said Kevin Adler, who worked as a co-producer under Molloy on the film. "From script development to financing to preproduction to filming to postproduction to putting it into theaters to doing all the distribution deals."
The experience was overwhelming at times, Molloy said. "We had 150 on our crew, and for circus scenes we added another 50 to 100."
He credits his Yankees resume with helping him through. Before taking on his current position with the organization, he said, "I worked in every department to understand every facet of the organization like marketing and player development."
As an eighth-grader, he even had a stint as a locker room gopher for the Tampa Yankees, the minor league team now called the Tarpons.
"I later helped with the draft by typing 38,000 (prospect) names, birth places and birth dates," he said. "With this movie I took what I learned with the Yankees and was able to translate that to Hollywood. And I think we hit a home run — no pun intended."

Sabiamente, los padres de Loreto Peralta vieron en ella talento para la actuación, y cuando Eugenio Derbez hizo el casting para "No se aceptan devoluciones", ellos no dudaron en inscribirla. "Buscamos niño/niña para película. Aproximadamente entre 6 o 7 años. 100 % bilingüe, que hable inglés y español sin acento. Tipo anglosajón (gringo). Mucho carisma", fue el tuit que publicó desesperado el actor en abril de 2012.
La interpretación fue tan destacada –que preferiblemente buscaban a un niño para personificar al que sería el infante protagonista– y la producción optó por darle un giro a la historia y asignarle a Loreto el papel.
Desde ese día inició su camino por la actuación no solo en México, sino también en Hollywood. La ahora adolescente reconoce que siempre se decía "que algún día sería una actriz famosa", y lo está logrando.
Luego de varios rumores, se confirmó que la jovencita de 14 años estaría dentro de la cinta "The Little Mermaid" ("La Sirenita") con un personaje estelar. La historia, según IMDb, tendía su estreno mundial este mes y está basada en el cuento de hadas de Hans Christian Andersen.
Peralta está preparada para sumergirse en un nuevo reto actoral. En "La Sirenita" comparte crédito con otros grandes artistas como Shirley MacLaine y Poppy Drayton.
"Es una cinta toda en inglés, y sale el próximo año; mi personaje se llama Elle, es en 1930, así que me tocó experimentar con el vestuario, el peinado, entonces estuvo superdivertido", indicó la pequeña respecto a su experiencia.
Aunque en esta adaptación de la cinta original animada, la producción se toma ciertas licencias, el amor, el drama y la fantasía mantendrán al espectador en suspenso.
La película animada de Disney estrenó en 1989 y recaudó más de $200 millones en taquilla a escala mundial; la trama se centra en Ariel, una sirena que se enamora de un humano y está dispuesta a renunciar a su vida como "princesa" del océano para poder estar con el amor de su vida.
Sin embargo, aunque esta versión en "live-action" toma como base la creatividad de Disney, da algunos giros, como, por ejemplo, el villano será un mago que está dispuesto a todo por lograr sus propósitos y es ahí donde Elle (Loreto Peralta) y Cam Harrison (William Moseley) tendrán que enfrentar sus temores para rescatar a una generosa sirena (Poppy Drayton).
En julio de este año, la misma Loreto fue quien compartió en las redes sociales el avance. "Hola a todos; los invito a que vean el nuevo tráiler de mi nueva película, les mando mil besos", fueron las palabras con las que acompañó el video.
