BEVERLY HILLS, CA; July 22, 2014 -- At the semi-annual Television Critics Association conference today, PBS and AMERICAN EXPERIENCE announced that “Walt Disney,” a new four-hour, two-night film that explores the life and legacy of one of America’s most enduring and influential storytellers, will premiere in fall 2015.

Directed and produced by Sarah Colt (“Henry Ford,” “RFK”) and written by Mark Zwonitzer (“JFK,” “Triangle Fire”), the film features rare archival footage from the Disney vaults, scenes from some of his greatest films, and includes interviews with animators and artists who worked on Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs and Imagineers who helped design Disneyland.

“For many Americans — and for me — the twinkle and swish of the Sunday night Disney logo was pure magic. It was an invitation to a special event,” said Beth Hoppe, Chief Programming Officer and General Manager, General Audience Programming for PBS. “For my kids, introducing them to animated Disney movies from Beauty and the Beast to The Lion King brought us great joy and taught them life lessons. Now viewers of all ages can learn about the life and legacy of the man behind the magic and his continuing impact on our lives and culture.”

“Walt Disney is an entrepreneurial and cultural icon,” said AMERICAN EXPERIENCE executive producer Mark Samels. “No single figure shaped American culture in the 20th century more than he.”

In 1966, the year Walt Disney died, 240 million people saw a Disney movie, 100 million tuned in weekly to a Disney television program, 80 million bought Disney merchandise, and close to seven million visited Disneyland. Nearly fifty years later, his reach remains enormous. Few creative figures before or since have held such a long-lasting place in American life and popular culture.

Disney’s movies grew out of his own life experiences. He told stories of outsiders struggling for acceptance and belonging while questioning the conventions of class and authority. As Disney rose to prominence and gained financial security, his work was increasingly celebratory of the American way of life that made his unlikely success possible.

A polarizing figure — though true believers vastly outnumber his critics — Disney’s achievements are indisputable. He created one of the most beloved cartoon characters in history, Mickey Mouse; conceived the first ever feature-length animated film, Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs; pioneered the integration of media and marketing with thousands of branded products; invented the anthropomorphic wildlife documentary; and conceived Disneyland, the world’s first theme park and the fulfillment of a lifelong desire to create a world unto itself.

Mi pare di capire che sia un documentario di 4 ore trasmesso in due parti.

Sembra molto interessante

Speriamo sia ben realizzato e, ancor più, che arrivi in Italia... Ma già su questo secondo punto son scettico, se si tratta di un documentario.

No, sono due film.

Per ora è solo una mia conclusione, dato che l'articolo dice (traduco testualmente)
il film include raro metraggio proveniente dagli archivi Disney, scene da alcuni dei suoi più grandi film e interviste con animatori e artisti che lavorarono a Biancaneve e Imagineers che progettarono Disneyland.

Appunto, significa film che verrà trasmesso in due parti in due serate, così come tante delle fiction di Rai1 (tanto per fare un esempio).

Infatti anche io, da come l'ho interpretata, mi aspetto una specie di documentario con momenti di interviste intervallati da momenti recitati. Chissà chi interpreterebbe Walt se così fosse

Speriamo di avere notizie al più presto perché mi intrippa moltissimo come progetto

Finalmente qualche notizia in più, il trailer e la data di messa in onda: 14 e 15 settembre. Uscirà in dvd in contemporanea.

It will feature rare archival footage from the Disney vaults, scenes from some of his greatest films, and interviews with biographers, animators and artists who worked on early films, including “Snow White,” and the designers who helped turn his dream of Disneyland into reality.

Makers of this film have had unprecedented access to Disney archives and interviewed many of the best biographers and historians, including those who worked on early Disney films.

The list includes: Rolly Crump, Robert Givens, Don Lusk, Floyd Norman and Ruthie Tompson, Imagineer Marty Sklar, Disney producer Don Hahn, costume designer Alice Davis, composer Richard Sherman, son-in-law Ron Miller, and academics and authors who have written extensively about Walt Disney including Neal Gabler, Susan Douglas, Richard Schickel, Steven Watts, Ron Suskind, and Carmenita Higginbotham.

In Italia mi sa proprio che non lo vedremo mai, meno che meno in DVD...

Sono uscite le prime recensioni del documentario, che vi ricordo sarà trasmesso negli Usa lunedì e martedì. Ne linko alcune:

Quella del NY Times è piuttosto negativa, le altre positive.

Quindi ricapitolando, negli ultimi tempi, sulla figura di zio Walt sono usciti o usciranno a breve i seguenti lavori:

Ieri ho visto la prima parte e ne sono rimasto molto soddisfatto.
A livello di contenuti non c'è granché di nuovo, ma la vera chicca è la quantità spropositata di materiale fotografico e soprattutto video d'epoca che non avevo mai visto.
Trovo invece un po' riduttivo limitare le interviste quasi esclusivamente a biografi e storici... d'accordo che i testimoni diretti sono quasi del tutto scomparsi, ma conversazioni d'archivio con i Nine Old Men e simili dovrebbero essercene a sufficienza.

Qualcuno può rispondere?

Stando a Imdb, As dreamers do è uscito lo scorso anno con pessime recensioni, vedo che il dvd è in vendita su amazon.com.

Invece, Walt before Mickey risulta uscito al cinema il 14 agosto 2015 (in base a quanto capisco da Wikipedia sembra uscito in una sola sala a Orlando).
