Walt Disney Pictures has a musical vehicle for Hugh Jackman. The company has acquired rights to the Cecelia Ahern novel If You Could See Me Now. The movie will be produced by Craig Zadan and Neil Meron, together with Jackman and John Palermo, according to Variety.

The 23-year-old daughter of Ireland's prime minister Bertie Ahern, Cecelia, who was presented with the 2005 Irish Post Award for Literature, in London this September, will release her third novel, "If You Could See Me Now", in November 2005 in Ireland, in December 2005 in the UK and in January 2006 in the US.

Hugh Jackman is set to play the imaginary friend of a lonely 6-year-old who has been left behind by his mother and is being raised by his aunt. The woman can suddenly see the imaginary friend, and a romance blossoms between them.

The 37-year-old actor was born in Sydney, Australia, of English parentage. He was the youngest of five children. Jackman went to the University of Technology, intending to work in a journalism field.

"During my third year of a university journalism course in I990, I suddenly learned that I had to do two more units in order to graduate. I was in the canteen with a friend, looking through the course list, and he said drama was an easy subject. So I said, "Perfect! I'm in."'

After obtaining his Bachelor of Arts (Communications), Jackman went on in 1991 to complete the one-year course "The Journey" at the Actors' Center in Sydney. He graduated from the Western Australian Academy of Performing Arts (WAAPA) in 1994.

Jackman was offered a starring role in the ABC TV prison drama Corelli opposite his future wife Deborra-Lee Furness.

In May 1996, Jackman completed twelve months playing the lead role of Gaston in the Australian Premiere Production of Walt Disney's Beauty and the Beast. For this role, he was nominated for a Mo award for Best Actor in a Musical. He appeared as Joe Gillis in the Australian production of Sunset Boulevard.

Jackman has made three feature films, the second of which, Erskineville Kings, garnered him an Australian Film Institute nomination for Best Actor in 1999.
In 1998, he starred in the Aussie film Paperback Hero, a romantic comedy.
In 2000, Jackman landed his first big budgeted film, the sci-fi summer sizzler, X-Men, in which he plays the comic's most popular character, Wolverine/Logan, a short, quick healing Canuck with a set of strong metal claws who will take on anyone who ticks him off.
Jackman is currently filming X-Men 3.

Tra l'altro ricordo che Hugh Jackman firmò qualche anno fa un contratto per ben tre musical con la Disney. Trovo assurdo che finora non abbiano prodotto nulla!

X-Men star Hugh Jackman is set to show off his musical skills in a string of movies, after signing a special deal with Disney. The Australian actor has signed a non-exclusive deal with the film-making giants through his new venture with Chicago executive producers Craig Zadan and Neil Meron. The deal came about after Disney bosses were impressed with Jackman's Tony-winning performance in the Broadway show The Boy From Oz. The actor says, "I'm lucky that at the time my career in movies was building, the movie musical genre that had been in the desert for 20 years started to come back. As an art form, the musical is Mount Everest: tough to pull off, but exhilarating and timeless when it works. And when it is done badly, it stinks to high heaven." Jackman says Disney will develop as many as three projects at the same time - and he's hoping none of them will be remakes. He adds, "There might be a classic out there that can be redone and find an audience, but I am personally more interested in finding something new."

Riporto alcune notizie.

Actor to star in 'Wolverine' sequel, 'Carousel'
By MICHAEL FLEMING
Hugh Jackman

Fox and Seed are in development on a sequel to "X-Men Origins: Wolverine," which topped the domestic box office over the weekend.

The Seed partners have begun planning the sequel, which they are squarely focusing on the samurai storyline originated in the comic series, and whose Japanese locale was teased after the film's final credits. A writer has yet to be hired. Seed will produce.

Fox has just closed a deal to acquire "Personal Security," a spec script by Matt Lieberman. Jackman will star as a tough Gotham police detective forced into bodyguard duty for a spoiled teen heiress who is receiving kidnapping threats. Jackman and Palermo will produce with Tapestry's Michael Schreiber.

While Jackman has not set his next star vehicle, he has gotten revved up over "Drive," a Seed-produced adaptation of the James Sallis novel set up at Universal.

Jackman will play a solitary man who drives race cars by day and getaway cars by night in Los Angeles. Jackman was energized by the latest draft written by Hossein Amini, who turned in a script that Jackman said captured the tone of a Steve McQueen film.

Long-in-the-works "Carousel" is also now a priority at Fox 2000, after David Magee turned in a script that Jackman and Palermo said keeps the timeless spirit of the Rodgers & Hammerstein classic, but injects relevance for a contemporary audience. Jackman will play Billy Bigelow. On Jackman's wishlist for the role of Julie Jordan is Anne Hathaway, who dueted with him in the Oscarcast opening number. Negotiations have not begun with the actress.

Finally, Jackman, who won a Tony for "The Boy From Oz," hopes to return to the Broadway stage in early 2010 in the title role in "Houdini," with Jack O'Brien ("Hairspray") directing, Danny Elfman writing the music, and David Yazbek ("Dirty Rotten Scoundrels") writing lyrics. The book was first written by Kurt Andersen, but the producers are aiming for a rewrite. Jackman and Palermo will produce with Scott Sanders and David Rockwell.

The Fox-based Seed label has grown in size to include execs Amanda Schweitzer, Kathryn Tamblyn, Allan Mandelbaum and Joe Marino, with Alana Free operating the Sydney-based production office whose goal is to mount modest-budget films to harness local talent in Jackman's home country.

Restiamo in attesa di questo film "If You Could See Me Now" dalla trama molto promettente.
Ecco il libro da cui è tratto:
