David Maisel, Scooter Braun Plan Three-Film Animated Slate

The titles include 'Cupid,' starring Justin Bieber, which producers hope will launch the "MythoVerse," a cinematic universe of stories and characters inspired by classic Greek and Roman mythology.

A year after its launch, Mythos Studios, the fledgling company led by Marvel Studios founding chairman David Maisel and record executive Scooter Braun, on Thursday revealed it is in active development on three animated features.

Taking a page out of a playbook Maisel used when he was Marvel's top exec, Mythos hopes to create cinematic universes for animated fare while also event-sizing stories and attracting more sophisticated and global audiences. One of its early steps was taking an ownership stake in Aspen Comics, controlling entertainment rights to its intellectual property, including the works of deceased comics superstar Michael Turner.

"We are tremendously fortunate to have found brilliant creative partners whose artistry and storytelling talent will help us bring these very distinct yet universally themed stories to life on the big screen," said Maisel in unveiling the new works. "These three projects reflect our vision for Mythos Studios, which is to immerse viewers in cool, animated universes based on contemporary and classic mythologies that resonate around the world. We are excited to be moving forward with these films."

Pete Candeland, best known for his Gorillaz music videos and The Beatles: Rockband, is directing Cupid, a musical starring Justin Bieber as the voice of Cupid. It is based on the mythological tale of Cupid and Psyche. Rio 2 scribe Carlos Kotkin wrote the script from a story by Maisel. The project is intended to launch what the producers call the MythoVerse, a cinematic universe of stories and characters inspired by classic Greek and Roman mythology.

Meanwhile, Mythos is actively working on what it calls the TurnerVerse, based on two comic books created by Turner, Fathom and Soulfire. Kevin Adams and Joe Ksander, the directing duo behind Netflix's Next Gen, are developing both titles as vehicles.

Kristin Gore, the daughter of former Vice President Al Gore who counts Futurama and Saturday Night Live as credits, is writing Fathom, Turner's signature creation that centers around Aspen Matthews, a marine biologist who discovers she is a member of an advanced underwater species.

Bo Yeon Kim and Erika Lippoldt (Star Trek: Discovery, Reign) are writing the screenplay for Soulfire, which is based on Turner's 2003 comic that told the tale of an orphan boy named Malikai who discovers he is the link to a long-forgotten age of magic. With the help of winged goddess Grace, he takes on the dark lord of technology in a quest to bring magic back to the world.

"When David and I launched Mythos, we knew we had something really special in both our shared overall vision and the IP we wanted to bring to life," Braun said in a statement. "We are thrilled to have best-in-class creatives and executives to help make these stories a reality."

The three projects have been quietly chugging along for the better part of 2019 in Mythos' Los Angeles-based offices, with teams assembled by Maisel and Braun to develop storyboards and visual components in addition to scripts.

Mythos has also tapped veteran animation and visual effects production executive Aaron Dem as vp physical production. His credits range from How to Train Your Dragon 2 and Space Jam to Titanic. Dem joins Mythos' senior executive team, which also includes Andrew Swett, formerly of Lord Miller, who came onboard last year as vp production and development.

Candeland is repped by Verve and Newhouse Porter. Kotkin is with Verve, Circle of Confusion and Bloom Hergott. Adams and Ksander are repped by UTA, Heitmann Entertainment and Stone Genow. Gore is repped by attorney Eric Brooks. Kim and Lippoldt are with Gotham Grou

Proprio così ragazzi, ovviamente vi aspettavo al varco, perché sapevo quanto amate questo racconto . Come vedrete sarà un musical, Justin Bieber ne sarà coinvolto. Speriamo solo non modernizzino e mandino tutto alle ortiche con gag o riferimenti alla contemporaneità tipo "Shrek". Non ho visto "Troll", io mi immagino un film del genere, qualcuno lo ha visto e può commentare al riguardo?

Speriamo che sia un film molto più sullo stile classicheggiante come Anastasia o L'incantesimo del lago o Pollicina per capirci.
Speriamo che non ci distruggano Amore e Psiche... ci piacerebbe fosse un film aulico, certo per ragazzi ma con qualcosa di aulico, non una becerata.

Adoro l'idea di un film su Amore e Psiche, e adoro l'idea di creare un Mythoverse! E che bello che sia fatto in salsa musicale! Naturalmente anch'io come i veu spero si ritorni a toni aulici dato il tema trattato. Era l'ora che qualcuno si occupasse dei miti greci e romani, sono bellissimi e dispiace che non siano conosciuti dai più.

Adoro l'idea di un film su Amore e Psiche, e adoro l'idea di creare un Mythoverse! E che bello che sia fatto in salsa musicale! Naturalmente anch'io come i veu spero si ritorni a toni aulici dato il tema trattato. Era l'ora che qualcuno si occupasse dei miti greci e romani, sono bellissimi e dispiace che non siano conosciuti dai più.

Io spero che qualcuno rispolveri Percy Jackson e gli dei dell'Olimpo. I film realizzati sono mediocri ma la saga letteraria seppur non all'altezza di harry Potter, e' molto carina e piacevola da leggere con tantissimi spunti ineteressanti. Io ho letto bene 10 volumi della serie e meritano. Ci vedrei bene una serie TV.

La faccenda del mythoverse non mi convince. Va bene la serialità ma il crossover non si addice a tante opere (è persino abortito il monsterverse col primo film sulla Mummia, che sulla carta pareva perfetto), inoltre questo Cupid è sviluppato come Musical, ma non mi pare sia lo stesso per gli altri due progetti, Fathom e Soulfire. Mi pare proprio che Cupid non ne faccia parte.

Justin Bieber Debuts First Look at ‘Cupid’ Movie

Beware of cupid’s arrow. Justin Bieber unveiled a first-look photo for “Cupid,” his upcoming animated movie from Mythos Studios.

The image sees a cartooned Bieber, who will voice the god of love, on the side of a cliff with the sun setting in the background.

“Cupid” will tell the story of the eponymous mythical being and his love interest, Psyche. The role of Psyche has not been cast yet, but the character is human royalty whose beauty intimidates Cupid’s mother, Aphrodite.

Pete Candeland, a music video director and commercial animator, will helm the movie. “Cupid” is the first film in a planned universe based on Greek and Roman mythology.

Mythos Studios is a year-old content venture from Marvel Studios founding chairman David Maisel and manager-mogul Scooter Braun.

Chissà come sarà Psiche... nel mito è bionda ma crediamo che per esigenze sceniche la mettano mora o tutt'al più con i capelli rossi

A me fa piacere che, a giudicare dalla prima immagine e dalla trama, il film pare essere serio ed epico. Confermato inoltre l'universo mitologico, se avrà successo potremmo aspettarci altre storie e miti .

STUPENDO! Quoto tutto! Se iniziano a fare film seri e epici, e perdipiù sui miti, mi trovano d'accordo! E potrei anche preferirli ai nuovi lungometraggi Disney e Pixar.. Vorrei che l'animazione fosse utilizzata in film seri e non solo semi-comici come propone la Disney.

Se Frozen II avrà il successo prevedibile, sta tranquilla che in tanti cavalcheranno quello stile, esattamente come accaduto negli anni '90 con produzioni Dreamworks come Il Principe d'Egitto, Sinbad e Giuseppe.
