Avete visto c'e' scritto italiano sul manifesto quando Flynn dice che non riescono a fargli il naso giusto.

Tangled co-directors Nathan Greno and Byron Howard are much more steeped in the classic world of Disney animation than anything as modern as Tron; they explained that even though Tangled is a fresher spin on the old Rapunzel fairy tale, "There's not a cynical bone in the movie's body," and they gushed about the fact that Alan Menken, Oscar-winning provider of music for Disney classics like The Little Mermaid, Beauty and the Beast, Aladdin and Pocahontas, wrote the songs for Tangled as well.
I admit I was a skeptic-- after so many Shrek films did we really need another post-modern take on a fairy tale-- but Tangled won me over within minutes. Again, the movie is not finished and I'm not allowed to provide a final opinion, but the movie has pretty much everything you expect from a Disney Animation musical, plus dashes of sharp humor that perfectly balance the wide streak of sentimentality. Voicing the naive, optimistic and tough Rapunzel, Mandy Moore plays off her pop princess roots to build a character who can be bubbly and goofy while also wielding a frying pan with surprising strength. Chuck star Zachary Levi has less fun stuff to do as the cynical, Han Solo-esque Flynn Rider, but his voice fits perfectly into the square-jawed Disney prince mold, and he and Moore build a fun chemistry as Rapunzel and Flynn's unlikely romance builds. Stealing the show from both of them, though, is Broadway star Donna Murphy as Rapunzel's adoptive mother, a classic fairy tale witch who rules not with terror, but with hilarious motherly passive aggression. It's no knock on Moore or Levi to say that Murphy's voice outstrips both of them, and her big musical number may be the best among many very, very good songs from Menken.
Given that no one really knows the Rapunzel story beyond the line "Rapunzel, let down your hair!" the filmmakers take things in a lot of fun directions, from sending Rapunzel and Flynn as squabbling buddies on a road trip to a detour at a bar populated by singing and dancing tough guys to what might be the film's best character, a horse hell-bent on bringing Flynn in as a fugitive from the law. Many of Menken's new songs
would sit comfortably alongside classics like "A Whole New World" and Beauty and the Beast's rousing "Gaston," and it just feels indescribably great to encounter a new animated musical that matches the energy and emotional heart of those early-90s efforts.
The film's title was famously changed from Rapunzel to Tangled in an effort to appeal to boys, and while that may still be a challenge-- it's a movie about a princess and true love and twinkling lights play a major plot point-- there's at least one spectacular action scene in the film, and a lot of goofy humor and slapstick that should appeal across the board. By not taking itself too seriously, by carefully mining the Disney musical playbook while also taking a few measured risks, Greno and Howard have put together a real delight, and if Disney believes in the film as much as they appeared to last night, they should make this an easy bet even for families strapped by high movie ticket prices. I'm already planning to snag my cousin's little girls for an afternoon and make them go see it with me again.
The Disney presentation ended with a cocktail reception in a room decked out with Rapunzel-themed decor, from paper lanterns echoing the film's beautiful finale to more ropes of gold hair. There were also blue cocktails circulating in honor of Tron, but I'll admit, I had nearly forgotten about the techno sci-fi film in my post-Tangled high. Yes, I join the rest of my Internet-writing brethren in being excited about the potential geeky bliss of Tron: Legacy, but I've gotta admit, I'm even more excited to see what Tangled does for family entertainment this winter. Tangled hits in time for Thanksgiving on November 24, while Tron: Legacy makes you wait a little longer with its December 17 release. We've seen Tangled, Disney's latest attempt to revive the great princess movies of its past. While we can't share everything that happens in this movie, suffice to say it transported us back to our childhoods via a pumpkin carriage.
Last night Disney hosted an even where they screened an unfinished version of Tangled, and showed a selection of Tron clips. While I can't yet give you my final impression of this film, I will tell you that my gut reaction afterward was to go home and immediately dust-off the old dress up tiara. Tangled transported me right back to the age of nine. While the latest batch of Pixar films have all moved me to tears, none of them has rekindled my childhood love for castles, adventure-seeking princesses, magic, zany pets and Prince Charming the way Tangled did.
Tangled accomplished this feat by either revisiting or reinventing the classic Disney tropes of the early 90s. Back when princess movies kicked ass. Rapunzel and friends unabashedly break into song, commonly ending with said singing character in the classic "hands pointed towards the heavens" pose, knee deep in a sweeping crescendo finale. Our new princess also has a collection of adorable animal friends, who sometimes outshine their human counterparts without even speaking (yes, the animals don't speak in this movie). Plus there's plenty of room for the long forgotten romantic duet, something we haven't seen since Aladdin's "A Whole New World" and Beauty and the Beast's "Something There."

But that's not to say that Tangled is stuck in the past. Despite the fairy tale plot, which relies heavily on the magic of this relatively unknown story, Tangled stays current with its humor — thanks to the self-aware sparring between main characters Rapunzel (voiced by Mandy Moore) and the local thief of the kingdom Flynn Ryder (Zachary Levi). Yes, a thief and a princess we've seen it before, but the jokes and the tropes are tight enough that the film seems to find a happy medium between the desperately modernized green ogre CG animations of today, and the more antiquated animations of our past.
The biggest surprise was the main character's relationship with the exceptionally talented Evil Witch, voiced by Donna Murphy. While I have no doubt you'll be humming her solos for years to come (her vocal skills practically shamed the rest of the cast), the interesting twist was her relationship with Rapunzel. If you're familiar with the fairy tale version, Rapunzel is kept prisoner in the tower her entire life by the Witch, so their relationship isn't as black-and-white as past villains have often been.
Back in March the LA Times reported that Disney decided to change the original name of this film from "Rapunzel" to "Tangled," in attempts to appealing to more boys. Will it work? Who knows — but if male youngsters enjoyed other classic Disney fare, there's no reason they shouldn't get caught up in Tangled as well.

Yesterday afternoon I sat in a half-filled movie theatre, watched a 30 second clip of "Secretariat," saw an exclusive 3D trailer for "Tron: Legacy," watched 21 minutes of straight-from-the-editing-room "Tron: Legacy" nerditry, and then experienced the multiple layers of editing and animation of the full-length, unfinished-to-the-sketch-level, Disney feature "Tangled." This is my job.
This is the last time I am going to mention Advertising Week - but nothing could have been a better transition AWAY from running all over town a la last week, than a cozy, rainy afternoon in my jeans, a hoodie, and sneaks. I was looking forward to a popcorn dinner, sinking low in my faux velvet seat, and zoning out just enough.
When I arrived at The French Institute's Florence Gould Hall, I was greeted by absolute darkness, with revolving rope lights of dark blue and turquoise lighting the stairs to the lower level. At the lower level I discovered ropes of hair, ivy leaves, and wanted posters lining the path to the refreshment area. It was nearly 4 p.m., which is a fine time to start drinking, but because this was a Disney event I was expecting Kool-Aid and Tang. Nope! Adult Kool-Aid (vino!) was available.
My decoration sleuth skills surmised that "Tangled" had something to do with hair, thievery, the woods, and big wooden stools. Interest: piqued. Also, the little girl in me was excited to see my first Disney movie in a theatre since "Beauty And The Beast." Side note: My high school chorus sang a montage of songs from that movie and I loved it.
Where was I? Oh, I met writer and "gun for hire" at Cinamatical, Jenni Miller. She was sipping an adult Kool-Aid with Julide Tanriverdi, who writes for the German weekly Gala, which, she said "is like People for Germany. Very popular!" I also taught Julide what "bamboozled" meant as in "Matt Van Hoven said I bamboozled him into being my guest by telling him it was a 'Tron' preview, when really it's for 'Tangled'".
I also met Don Thomas, entertainment editor at NY Beacon News, and Marie Moore, syndicated columnist at The Filmstrip. As I settled into my theatre seat, stomach growling over the peanuts, my ears picked up a French conversation as well as other languages I couldn't pin down. Foreign press interest, as they say.
As I took a few shots of the audience, I saw everyone had goofy glasses. What the hell, man? How did I get left out? I darted back outside and nabbed a pair just in time for the 3D trailer for "Tron: Legacy." If it's at all possible to make 3D look like 2D, "Tron: Legacy" did it. Maybe it was the lighting, maybe it was the theatre itself, maybe it was some other excuse, but the 3D was underwhelming. It reminded me of those old school posters where you could see each layer. When the foreground was in focus, making the background appear multidimensional, the foreground faces actually lost dimension.
Further laming out the 3D experience was the impressiveness of the 2D 21 minutes of the "not the final edit!" version. I'm a nerd, but my very basic computer programming nerd really wasn't unleashed until I was about 22. For those of you who have been fiddling with the home computer since the first King's Quest and green screens: you will love this movie. For those of you who have no idea what any of that is, but love tech-style graphics, Daft Punk, shiny things, second skin-body suits, Ducati bikes, and Jeff Bridges: you will love this movie. I actually groaned with the sadness of a movie unfinished when the 21 minutes completed. I have a feeling when this movie hits IMAX I'll be sitting in the midst of a lot of people who are suddenly, inexplicably, very hungry for pizza and Snickers.
Moving on to "Tangled." The directors asked the audience to hold off on reviews due to the raw nature of the version we saw, but I can't resist. Obviously my average audience member review will not include "that scene seemed unfinished" because some scenes literally weren't. In fact, the most impressive part (which I gushed to my dude when I got home) was the opportunity to see the layers of animation.
I got to see the basic sketched animation, the very first pass of computer animation (where all hairdos are smooth undetailed bobs and the characters are all wearing body suits), incomplete animation where the scene is a little jerky, and unlit scenes. Yes, animated films need lighting. It was incredible to see and upped my respect even more for the creative talent behind what some may call "just cartoons".
Oh right, and the story of "Tangled" is a reinterpretation of Rapunzel. "It's not cynical," explained one of the directors. Like all Disney stories, the theme is oppressed female youth, which leads to rebellion, which leads to consequences, which leads to love, which leads to singing, which leads to family, marriage, and happiness, wrapped up with a cute little sidekick (this time a cute little chameleon), and adversaries turned to partners in crime.
I loved every minute of it except for the part where Rapunzel says about her shiny, glowing blond hair "When it's cut, it turns brown and loses its power."
On behalf of all my varying lengths of brunette sisters out there I say, "Bite me, Rapunzel".

Yes, animated films need lighting. It was incredible to see and upped my respect even more for the creative talent behind what some may call "just cartoons".
Oh right, and the story of "Tangled" is a reinterpretation of Rapunzel. "It's not cynical," explained one of the directors. Like all Disney stories, the theme is oppressed female youth, which leads to rebellion, which leads to consequences, which leads to love, which leads to singing, which leads to family, marriage, and happiness, wrapped up with a cute little sidekick (this time a cute little chameleon), and adversaries turned to partners in crime.
I loved every minute of it except for the part where Rapunzel says about her shiny, glowing blond hair "When it's cut, it turns brown and loses its power."
On behalf of all my varying lengths of brunette sisters out there I say, "Bite me, Rapunzel".

No, non credo proprio, perchè qui il riferimento è palesemente ispirato al concept visto mesi fa, in cui lei guarda Flynn mentre scala la sua chioma, semplicemente hanno sostituito il castello di Disneyland con quello della fiaba...Ps: magari si trovasse qualche scampolo di scenografia rapunzeliana! Entrambi. Voglio dire...sono MOLTI capelli. Pettinarli è un bel lavoro...e trasportare Madre Gothel dentro e fuori la torre tutti i giorni non è facile. La cosa più difficile però è nasconderli. La mamma dice che ci sono molti che vorrebbero mettere le mani sui miei capelli magici. Per questo sono sola qui. Ma alla fine credo che i miei capelli siano una benedizione. La mamma mi dice sempre quanto sono speciale per questi capelli. E sono anche molto utili. Posso appendermi alle travi mentre dipingo o se un bandito invade la mia torre posso usare i venti metri di capelli magici per legarlo e decidere poi il da farsi. Quante ragazze possono fare ciò?

Ah, ammettiamolo: sono ladri, sono un ladro, non è esattamente un rapporto costruito sulla fiducia. Nel mondo reale si tratta della sopravvivenza del più abile, o in questo caso la sopravvivenza del più intelligente… o… più bello? Insomma, qualsiasi cosa funzioni.

In più, io sono il primo ragazzo che si è presentato alla sua torre e a cui lei poteva credere. Beh, sono il primo ragazzo a passare per la sua torre, in assoluto.
In passato era in affari con i Fratelli Stabbington, ma ora non sembrano essere i suoi migliori fan. Cosa è successo?
Flynn: Mai fidarsi di un ragazzo che indossa una benda sull’occhio … o di suo fratello. Questi ragazzi sviluppano qualche muscolo e improvvisamente partono alla carica, no? Ah, ammettiamolo: sono ladri, sono un ladro, non è esattamente un rapporto costruito sulla fiducia. Nel mondo reale si tratta della sopravvivenza del più abile, o in questo caso la sopravvivenza del più intelligente… o… più bello? Insomma, qualsiasi cosa funzioni.
Cosa c’è con il suo cavallo Maximus?
Flynn: Woh, Woh, Woh. Quel sacco di pulci non è il mio cavallo. Il mio cavallo non mi inseguirebbe notte e giorno senza ragione. Il mio cavallo non farebbe della propria missione di vita portare un ragazzo come me davanti alla giustizia. Il mio cavallo non mi inseguirebbe nelle situazioni più difficili, solo per addentare la mia borsa. Pensateci un po’. Max e io abbiamo molto in comune. Ma lui è pur sempre un sacco di pulci.
