When Enchanted hit theaters in 2007, it was a sizable hit. Disney’s live-action twist on its own classic animated film formula grossed over $340 million worldwide and landed a trio of Best Original Song Oscar nominations for some seriously catchy tunes (penned by Disney stalwart Alan Menken no less). So given the film’s success, it wasn’t a huge surprise that Disney began developing a sequel. Actually getting that sequel off the ground, however, has proven more difficult.

We’ve heard rumblings over the years of minimal movement on Enchanted 2, but now sources tell us that the project is seriously heating up over at the Mouse House. Anne Fletcher (The Proposal) remains attached to direct, and the studio is now in the process of punching up the script with the hopes that it will be in greenlight-ready shape very soon. What’s more, we know the current working title: Disenchanted.

Story details remain under wraps, and it’s still unclear exactly which cast members will return. Amy Adams led a cast that included James Marsden, Patrick Dempsey, and Susan Sarandon in the first film and she has been enthusiastic about reprising her lead role over the years. Enchanted was a wonderful showcase of her talents, as she was able to bring the traditionally naïve “Disney princess” archetype to reality with shades of dimension and show off her formidable singing pipes in the process.

This development comes at an interesting time for Disney, as the studio recently put a second Tron sequel into motion with cast and director in place before abruptly pulling the plug. An Enchanted sequel is much less expensive—and a much safer bet—than another Tron movie, but it does signal that the studio isn’t content to simply rely on mining its animated IP for live-action reboots or sit back and count that Marvel/Star Wars/Pixar money. They’re continuing to develop homegrown franchises. Even if some of those take nearly a decade to come to fruition.

Un po' di trama: Il film è ambientato 10 anni dopo il primo e vede Giselle che si fa domande sul suo "e vissero felici e contenti" e innesca una serie di eventi che coinvolgono sia il mondo reale che il mondo animato di Andalasia.

Adam Shankman, the helmer behind the musical Hairspray, is in negotiations to direct Disenchanted, the sequel to Disney’s musically inclined 2007 fantasy that starred Amy Adams.

Kevin Lima directed the original movie, which tackled the idea of a prototypical Disney princess thrust into the real world, with songs and true love following.

Adams starred as Giselle, who is due to marry her Prince Charming (James Marsden) when she is plucked from her animated world and into the live-action world of New York City. There she encounters a lawyer (Patrick Dempsey) who is due to marry someone totally wrong for him (Idina Menzel). The movie also featured Susan Sarandon as a Maleficent-style evil queen.

The movie featured songs by Alan Menken and grossed over $340 million worldwide ($127 million domestically). Disney has been developing a sequel since 2010, with Anne Fletcher previously attached to direct.

Sources say Disenchanted is set 10 years after the first movie, with Giselle finding herself questioning her happily ever after, and accidentally triggering events that make everyone's lives turn upside down in both the real world and in the animated kingdom of Andalasia.

Shankman is well-known to execs at Disney for his work as a director on light-hearted comedies Bringing Down the House, The Pacifier and Bedtime Stories. But he’s also shown a love for musicals with his all-star adaptations of Hairspray and Rock of Ages which had audiences humming in their seats.

Shankman is repped by UTA and Bloom Hergott.

Abbiamo anche visto come la coerenza non sia più una prerogativa in casa disney. Più che coerenza dilaga la demenza (e l'inutilità di questo ennesimo sequel lo dimostra )...
Quindi potrebbe benissimo essere in CGI la parte animata...

Scusa Scissor, ma due film di successo non fanno di Lima un regista più affidabile ed esperto di un Shankman che ha una carriera molto più nutrita e un curriculum professionale di tutto rispetto.

Questa si che è una news eccezionale!!!

Che belle notizie, LaGravenese ha una scrittura molto classica e sentimentale, ricordo con piacere molti suoi film commedie sentimental femminili anni '90. Lieto di ritrovare i confermati Menken e Schwartz e appare praticamente certo e doveroso il ritorno dell'animazione 2D col coinvolgimento di Baxter. Evviva.

Non è detto che James Baxter faccia 2D però (crediamo di sì ma non è ancora detto, sapevamo che volevano farlo in CGI poi magari hanno cambiato idea), vedremo.

Più che altro è sceneggiatore soprattutto di film drammatici, anche di alto livello (I Ponti di Madison County), magari vogliono fare un film più classico con meno gag toilet humour.

Speriamo che aborriscano gag e toilet humor che ha davvero stancato (oltre a non essere proprio più di moda).
Ironia sì, ma ironia sopraffina, umorismo sensato, umorismo da gabinetto proprio speriamo di non vederlo mai più.
