Day of the Dead diventa Book of life e verrà distribuito dalla Fox

http://collider.com/book-of-life-guillermo...imation/217573/
Fox Animation Picks Up Guillermo del Toro’s Day of the Dead Movie BOOK OF LIFE for Release in October 2014
by Brendan Bettinger Posted: December 12th, 2012 at 7:28 pm

We learned in February that Guillermo del Toro signed on to produce an animated movie about the Mexican holiday Day of the Dead directed by Jorge R. Guiterrez. THR reports that Fox Animation has acquired the picture, now titled Book of Life, and plans to release it on October 10, 2014. Fox and the filmmakers aren’t ready to release the full logline just yet, but we heard back in February that Book of Life tells “a Romeo and Juliet-style love story set against a Mexican Day of the Dead backdrop.”

Fox Animation has a decade-long partnership with Blue Sky Studios (the guys behind the Ice Age series) that will continue with Epic, Rio 2, and the Peanuts movie everyone wants. But their upcoming slate adds a few more in-house productions like Book of Life, Walking with Dinosaurs, and Welcome to the Jungle. Del Toro has his own partnership with Dreamworks Animation, so I’m surprised they didn’t grab Book of Life. I am happy to see the project find any studio home, since a quick search on Google images pretty much guarantees an animated Day of the Dead film will pop on screen.

Focus Features Seals Pact For LAIKA Pic ‘The Boxtrolls’

BREAKING: Moments after setting a deal with Random House Studio for Longbourne, Focus Features has locked its third animated movie project with ParaNorman and Coraline partner LAIKA. This one is called The Boxtrolls, which is in production, and Focus will release it October 17th, 2014. Focus has worldwide distribution rights and Universal Pictures International will release the movie overseas (with eOne Distribution handling Canada).

The Boxtrollsis a 3D stop-motion and CG hybrid animated feature based on Alan Snow’s bestselling fantasy adventure novel Here Be Monsters. It’s directed by Anthony Stacchi (co-director of Open Season) and Graham Annable (story artist on Coraline and ParaNorman), and produced by David Ichioka and Mr. Knight. The voice cast includes Oscar winner Ben Kingsley, Toni Collette, Elle Fanning, Isaac Hempstead-Wright, Jared Harris, Simon Pegg, Nick Frost, Richard Ayoade, and Tracy Morgan.

The Here Be Monsters deal was brokered by Hotchkiss And Associates.

The Boxtrolls is a comedic fable that unfolds in Cheesebridge, a posh Victorian-era town obsessed with wealth, class, and the stinkiest of fine cheeses. Beneath its charming cobblestone streets dwell the Boxtrolls, foul monsters who crawl out of the sewers at night and steal what the townspeople hold most dear: their children and their cheeses. At least, that’s the legend residents have always believed. In truth, the Boxtrolls are an underground cavern-dwelling community of quirky and lovable oddballs who wear recycled cardboard boxes the way turtles wear their shells. The Boxtrolls have raised an orphaned human boy, Eggs, since infancy as one of their dumpster-diving and mechanical junk-collecting own. When the Boxtrolls are targeted by villainous pest exterminator Archibald Snatcher (Kingsley), who is bent on eradicating them as his ticket to Cheesebridge society, the kindhearted band of tinkerers must turn to their adopted charge and adventurous rich girl Winnie (Fanning) to bridge two worlds amidst the winds of change — and cheese.

Chris Meledandri‘s Illumination Entertainment is working on a new animated version of Dr. Seuss’ How The Grinch Stole Christmas for Universal Pictures. Pete Candeland is set to direct with Meledandri producing. A writer has not yet been named. The Grinch‘s most recent screen appearance was Universal’s 2000 live-action version with Jim Carrey but Chuck Jones’ animated version from 1966 remains one of the most popular Seuss adaptations. The new version of The Grinch is Meledandri’s third Dr. Seuss project, and Illumination has developed a good relationship with Dr. Seuss author Theodor Geisel’s widow Audrey Geisel who will again serve as executive producer. Meledandri previously made Horton Hears A Who through Fox and Blue Sky Studios and The Lorax via Illumination for Universal.

Shaun The Sheep Aardman

Studiocanal, Aardman Animations Team For ‘Shaun The Sheep’ Feature
By NANCY TARTAGLIONE, International Editor | Thursday, 25 April 2013 11:42 UKTags: Aardman Animations, Shaun The Sheep, StudioCanal
inShare Comments (0)

The stop-motion animated TV series Shaun The Sheep first aired on the BBC’s CBBC in 2007 and has been sold in over 170 countries. France’s Studiocanal will finance the feature version of the popular kids show from Aardman Animations. Studiocanal will also distribute in the UK, France, Germany, Australia and New Zealand and handle international sales.

The family film, written and directed by Richard Starzak and Mark Burton, will see the titular character and his flock venture into the big city to rescue their farmer.

This is the first collaboration between Studiocanal and Aardman and will be one of Studiocanal’s lead pre-sales titles in Cannes where I understand the company will dedicate a day to Shaun.

Ratchet & Clank (2015) (Rainmaker Entertainment and Blockade Entertainment)

http://www.nerdist.com/2013/04/ratchet-cla...-movie-in-2015/

“Ratchet & Clank” Get an Animated Movie in 2015
by Dan Casey on APRIL 23, 2013

Anyone who’s had the pleasure of playing Insomniac Games and Sony Computer Entertainment’s Ratchet & Clank series has probably thought to themselves, “Hey, this kind of feels like a movie! Why isn’t this a movie yet?” Well, today your inner monologues were answered, as Variety revealed that Rainmaker Entertainment and Blockade Entertainment are teaming up to bring the delightful dynamic duo to the big screen, with a target release of 2015.

First introduced in 2002, the games themselves play out like an alternate reality Pixar film. Ratchet, the last of the lombax (the Mohican equivalent of marmoset-lemur-chimera creatures), and his trusty stainless steel sidekick Clank, a dapper but diminuitive robot, attempt to defend the Solana Galaxy from nefarious alien villains like Chairman Drek, fallen superhero Ace Hardlight, and Ultron-by-way-of-Kang equivalent Professor Nefarious. Can’t you just picture it coming together already?
Given that the film is based on a script by Insomniac Games senior writer TJ Fixman, fans worried about maintaining the game’s signature style and off-kilter humor should rest easy, especially after watching the official announcement trailer. Directed by Jericca Cleland, the film also promises to keep much of the original voice talent intact with James A. Taylor (Ratchet), David Kaye (Clank), and Jim Ward (Qwark) already attached to the project. Your move, Wreck-It-Ralph 2.
Are you looking forward to a Ratchet & Clank film? Let us know in the comments below!

Sony Pictures has won the worldwide distribution rights on the upcoming “Angry Birds” animated movie and has set a July 1, 2016 release.

The 3D film is being developed, produced, and financed by Rovio Entertainment, the creator of the original app. “Despicable Me” producer John Cohen will produce with David Maisel exec producing.

First appearing as a mobile app in 2009, “Angry Birds” has since expanded its business to entertainment, publishing, and licensing and is still the number one most downloaded app of all time.

“Every studio in town would love to add Angry Birds to their slate,” Sony’s Chairman and CEO Michael Lynton and Sony’s Co-Chairman Amy Pascal said in a joint statement. ” There are few titles out there that bring this kind of excitement, brand awareness and built-in audience to the table.”

As for Rovio, the pic will mark the companies first feature though they have helped produce the weekly animated series, which premiered in March. The series was launched through its Angry Birds apps as well as on select video-on-demand channel providers, Smart TVs, connected devices, and on select TV networks around the world.

Ballerina (Gaumont/Quad)

http://variety.com/2013/biz/news/ballerina...ied-1200480729/

‘Ballerina’: Quad, Gaumont Dance Pas de Deux (EXCLUSIVE)

Gaumont is set to reteam with Quad, the shingle behind “The Intouchables,” on “Ballerina,” a $30 million English-language 3D family toon.

SEE MORE: Cannes Film Festival

Now in pre-production, the 1884-set animated fare, helmed by Canadian duo Eric Warin and Eric Summer, tells the tale of Felice, an 11-year-old orphan girl from Brittany who dreams of becoming a ballerina at the Paris Opera. Together with Corentin, a little boy she meets at the orphanage, Felice flees to Paris to chase her dream.

Ballet dancer Benjamin Millepied (“Black Swan”) has been tapped to supervise the choreography. Motion capture will be used to record Millepied’s performance. Bruno Coulais (“Farewell My Queen”) wrote the original score.

Nicolas Duval, Laurent Zeitoun and Yann Zenou are producing. Gaumont is co-producing, and reps “Ballerina” for international markets and will distribute in Gaul. Meanwhile, eOne has nabbed all distribution rights for Canada.

Gaumont is in talks to close the U.K., all of Eastern Europe, South Korea and Benelux.

Although Gaumont has been involved in animated films before, “Ballerina” is the first bigger-budget mainstream animated feature that the shingle has boarded. The French company is positioning it as a family movie that targets the same demo as Hollywood animated tentpoles — a premise that’s highly attractive to indie distributors looking to tap into the audiences’ appetite for event toon features.

“The script, the settings and the main characters deliver inspirational Disney values, such as never abandoning your dream, finding your destiny, the importance of friendship and family,” said Cecile Gaget, head of Gaumont Intl. Gaget added that Paris plays a key part in “Ballerina.”

Toon will be delivered in mid-2016 for an expected release in December 2016.

Larrikins (Dreamworks Animation)

http://www.comingsoon.net/news/movienews.php?id=105178

DreamWorks Animation Goes to The Outback with Larrikins
Source: DreamWorks Animation
June 6, 2013
15 0

Award-winning composer, comedian, actor and writer Tim Minchin is joining DreamWorks Animation, lending his signature creative energy to a new musical project set in the Australian outback. Currently titled Larrikins, which is Australian slang for mischievous youth, this all-animal comedy is an original idea written by Harry Cripps ("Supernova") and produced by Christina Steinberg (Rise of the Guardians, National Treasure).

"Our whole team is incredibly excited about this project," said Chief Creative Officer, Bill Damaschke. "We've been looking to work with the immensely talented Tim Minchin on something for a while, and there is no doubt that this project is a perfect fit. He and Harry Cripps will be a fantastic team."

Minchin, who will likely take on a larger creative role in addition to writing the music/lyrics for the film, co-wrote "Matilda the Musical" which was awarded a 2012 Olivier Award for Best New Musical and is currently nominated for 12 Tony Awards including Best Musical Score.

Says Minchin, "I was lucky enough to grow-up in Western Australia and know that the Australian outback is vast and spell-binding and heart-stoppingly beautiful, and the characters that inhabit it are unique and hilarious and tough and cheeky. I am hugely excited to be working with Harry and the DreamWorks Animation team in their mission to capture some of this unique aesthetic and quirky, iconoclastic culture on film. It's going to be bloody good fun."

Larrikins tells the story of an uptight bilby (a desert-dwelling marsupial), who has lived a sheltered life in the safety of his family burrow. When he ventures out and becomes privy to a dangerous secret, he finds himself launched on a musical adventure across the mystical and untamed Australian outback. The film will be managed by DreamWorks Animation Head of Development Gregg Taylor and Development Executive Amie Karp.

Noah Baumbach Has Been Secretly Directing DreamWorks Animation’s FLAWED DOGS
by Adam Chitwood Posted 2 days ago

While filmmaker Noah Baumbach first rose to prominence with 2005’s The Squid and the Whale, the director has been taking a rather stealthy approach to his projects as of late. He filmed this year’s excellent Frances Ha on the cheap and in secret, only confirming its existence when it had completed production, and we know next to nothing about his currently in-production effort While We’re Young. Well now you can add yet another secret project to Baumbach’s resume, as he has apparently been covertly directing DreamWorks Animation’s Flawed Dogs in his spare time. Hit the jump for more.

An adaptation of Berkeley Breathed’s illustrated novel Flawed Dogs has been in development at DreamWorks Animation for nearly three years now, but it appears that movement on the project is further along than we previously thought. Bleeding Cool reports that Baumbach is directing the pic and has been working in secret on the project for some time. The story centers around a dachshund who must reclaim his place in the family after being wrongly exiled by a jealous show dog. It’ll be interesting to see how well Breathed’s distinctive imagery is translated to the screen, but I’m eager to see an animated film completely from the mind of Baumbach.

The release of Flawed Dogs is likely still some time away, as DWA has its schedule pretty much set through 2016; that gives Baumbach ample time to juggle his live-action projects with his duties on the animated feature. This isn’t the Greenberg director’s first time working with DreamWorks Animation, as he previously co-wrote Madagascar 3: Europe’s Most Wanted. Of course he also co-wrote Wes Anderson’s brilliant stop-motion animated feature The Fantastic Mr. Fox.

EXCLUSIVE: Reel FX Animation Studios has set Kung Fu Panda scribes Cyrus Voris and Ethan Reiff to script W.I.S.H. Police, an animated film that is based on an original short story by Daniel Nayeri. The film will be directed by Headless Productions’ Victor Maldonado, Adrian Garcia and Alfredo Torres. It’s a police procedural revolving around the Imaginary Crimes Unit, a worldwide creature force tasked with monitoring and apprehending Wicked Ideas Suddenly Human (W.I.S.H.). Those are the malevolent wishes that people utter in moments of anger, and evil criminals work to make reality. When a young boy gets jealous of his sister and wishes her out of his life, the W.I.S.H. Police are called in for a tough one. After all, the brat made his wish on a star, while he blew out his birthday cake and held a four-leaf clover in his hand. Yikes. Reel FX hatched Free Birds with Relativity, which releases the film November 1, followed by The Book Of Life with Fox, which will be released October 3, 2014. An adaptation of the Beasts Of Burden comic series is next. The scribes are repped by UTA and Field Entertainment. The directors are repped by UTA and Anonymous.

Sony Pictures Entertainment and Annapurna Pictures will partner on what is expected to be an R-rated animated film titled Sausage Party, written by Seth Rogen & Evan Goldberg & Kyle Hunter & Ariel Shaffir, from a story by Seth Rogen & Evan Goldberg & Jonah Hill, to be directed by Conrad Vernon (Shrek 2, Monsters vs. Aliens, Madagascar 3) & Greg Tiernan, it was announced today by Doug Belgrad, president of Columbia Pictures, and Hannah Minghella, president of Production for the studio, and by Megan Ellison. Annapurna Pictures and Point Grey Pictures are producing.

After Point Grey and Annapurna packaged the film and presented it to the studio, Sony agreed to co-finance it with Annapurna. The film will be produced by Megan Ellison, Seth Rogen, Evan Goldberg, and Conrad Vernon. The executive producers are Jonah Hill, James Weaver, Kyle Hunter, and Ariel Shaffir. Nitrogen Studios Canada Inc., in Vancouver, will handle all CG animation, design, production and post-production. Sony Pictures will release the film worldwide and the studio is eyeing a release date in 2015.

Sausage Party is a raunchy animated movie about one sausage's quest to discover the truth about his existence. After falling out of a shopping cart, our hero sausage and his new friends embark on a perilous journey through the supermarket to get back to their aisles before the 4th of July sale.

Commenting on the announcement, Minghella said, "We're thrilled to be back in business with Seth and Evan. This project has all the irreverent, insightful and risqué R-rated humor we have come to expect from them. Matching their unique comic sensibility with an animated film is a fun and inspired idea. We are confident Seth, Evan, Conrad and Greg will deliver one of the most memorable animated movies of all time."

Rogen and Goldberg most recently wrote and directed the $100 million hit Sony Pictures comedy This is the End and are currently working on upcoming films The Interview (also for Sony Pictures) and The Neighbors.

Andrea Giannetti will oversee the project for the studio along with Minghella. David Distenfeld will oversee the project for Annapurna.

'Minions' Movie Pushed Back From Christmas 2014 to Summer 2015

Universal Pictures
"Despicable Me 2"
The move leaves Universal without an animation tentpole next year but allows the studio to open the movie in the same corridor that "Despicable Me 2" debuted.

Universal is pushing back the release of Illumination Entertainment's untitled Minions spinoff movie from Dec. 19, 2014, to July 10, 2015.

The delay means the studio won't have an animated film next year, and comes only days after Disney and Pixar announced they were pushing The Good Dinosaur from 2014 to 2015, likewise leaving Pixar without a film release during a calendar year for the first time since 2005.
Considering this summer's animation glut, it's no surprise that Hollywood studios are shuffling their release schedules, even if it means longer periods between films.

Studio insiders say Universal was so happy with the July 2013 release date for Illumination's Despicable Me 2 that it decided to open Minions in roughly the same corridor. Despicable 2, debuting on July 2, has grossed a staggering $840.5 million to date.
Universal had already staked out July 3, 2015, for an untitled Illumination movie; that project is being pushed back to Feb. 12, 2016.
Universal is likely relinquishing the July 3, 2015, date -- opting instead to open Minions on July 10 -- because of the crowded playing field, including the Terminator reboot and Independence Day 2. Both of those tentpoles are likely to get some amount of family traffic.
