SDCC 2019: Marvel Studios' 'Doctor Strange In the Multiverse of Madness' Announced

In theaters May 7, 2021.

Today in Hall H at Comic-Con International in San Diego, Marvel Studios’ President Kevin Feige officially announced the lineup of feature films for the next two years and shared exciting new information on the brand-new Marvel Studios’ series created exclusively for Disney+, Disney’s upcoming streaming service launching in the U.S. on November 12.

Feige introduced the second film in the Doctor Strange franchise, Marvel Studios' Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness, and called director Scott Derrickson and star Benedict Cumberbatch to the stage to a rousing welcome.

In a surprise twist, Feige brought out Elizabeth Olsen, who also stars in Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness, and they talked about how Marvel Studios' WandaVision—the Disney+ series that Olsen will star in as Wanda Maximoff/Scarlet Witch—connects directly to the feature film's storyline.

Marvel Studios' Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness hits theaters on May 7, 2021.

Dal sito HN Entertainment:

‘Doctor Strange In The Multiverse of Madness’ Production Expected Shoot In NYC

HN Entertainment has been tracking a bunch of Marvel’s Phase 4 movies and we have learned of a secondary filming location for Scott Derrickson’s Doctor Strange In The Multiverse of Madness.

The Doctor Strange sequel will mainly film at Pinewood Studios UK in England and we’ve now confirmed that some scenes will be shot in the United States (we believe that New York City, New York is expected to be that American locale).

Strange’s Sanctum Sanctorum is located in New York City and Marvel has Marvel shot in the city when they’ve needed exterior shots with the first film. They used Atlanta for Avengers: Infinity War, mainly, because they were already there at Pinewood Studios Atlanta and it seemed to be a convenience thing.

Scott Derrickson will return to direct with screenwriter Jade Barlett reportedly working the script.

Benedict Cumberbatch, Elizabeth Olsen, and Benedict Wong are set to return with an assumption that Chiwetel Ejiofor’s Baron Mordo and Rachel McAdams’ Christine Palmer could be coming back as well.

Derrickson has teased previously on Twitter about adding Nightmare, Brother Voodoo, and also possibly Namor (he deleted that one). He also declared at San Diego Comic-Con that the Doctor Strange sequel would be the MCU’s first real scary/horror film.

Due to Elizabeth Olsen’s filming schedule for her Disney+ series WandaVision, we suspect that shooting won’t begin until around May-July.

WandaVision may also lead directly into Doctor Strange 2 and could see some of those actors/character carry over.

I’m excited to see who the official villain will be along with the rest of the film’s casting.

Doctor Strange In The Multiverse of Madness has been set for release on May 7th, 2021.

Dal sito Collider:

Exclusive: Marvel Taps Jade Halley Bartlett to Write ‘Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness’

Marvel has tapped up-and-coming screenwriter Jade Halley Bartlett to write Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness, Collider has exclusively learned.

Marvel had no comment.

Benedict Cumberbatch is set to return as Dr. Stephen Strange, aka the Sorcerer Supreme, and he’ll be joined by Benedict Wong and Elizabeth Olsen, the latter of whom reprises her MCU role as Scarlet Witch.

Scott Derrickson is also back to direct the sequel, and it remains unclear whether Bartlett will receive sole writing credit, or share credit with Derrickson, who co-wrote the first film with C. Robert Cargill and Jon Spaihts.

Marvel’s newly-promoted Kevin Feige will produce the superhero sequel, which Disney is slated to release on May 7, 2021. The original Doctor Strange movie grossed $677 million worldwide back in 2016, and per Rotten Tomatoes, was well liked by both critics (89% fresh) and audiences (86% fresh).

Barlett burst onto the scene with her script Miller’s Girl, which was voted to the 2016 Black List of Hollywood’s best unproduced screenplays before being optioned by Good Universe for Bartlett to direct and Seth Rogen and Evan Goldberg‘s Point Grey banner to produce. Since then, she has been hired by Universal and producer Michael De Luca to adapt Chloé Esposito‘s debut novel Mad, Bad and Dangerous to Know, which is described as a sexy thriller with a darkly comic voice about a woman who goes to great lengths to steal her identical twin’s perfect life.

Bartlett also wrote the most recent draft of the upcoming Mackenzie Davis horror movie The Turning, and you can watch the first trailer by clicking here. She’s represented by UTA, Heroes and Villains Entertainment and attorney Matthew Wallerstein.

Next up for Marvel is the Black Widow movie on May 1, 2020, which will be followed by The Eternals on Nov. 6, 2020. Both films hail from female directors. Doctor Strange 2 isn’t the only sequel Marvel is hard at work on, as Thor: Love and Thunder is due in theaters on Nov. 5, 2021, while Black Panther 2 will arrive on May 6, 2022. The company is currently casting Shang-Chi, due on Feb. 12, 2021, and it has also brought back James Gunn to direct Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3.

Stay tuned to Collider for more news from the MCU!

“Marvel Studios and Scott Derrickson have amicably parted ways on ‘Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness’ due to creative differences,” Marvel said in a statement to Variety. “We remain grateful to Scott for his contributions to the MCU.”

Derrickson also said the decision was mutual.

The film will begin production in May and there are not expected to be any delays when it comes to shooting. The search for a replacement is currently underway.

“Doctor Strange” was a critical and commercial success when it opened in 2016, grossing nearly $680 million globally. The sequel will find Benedict Cumberbatch returning as Strange, a master of mystic arts. Elizabeth Olsen, who plays Scarlet Witch, is also expected to appear in the film.

“Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness” is scheduled for release on May 7, 2021. Derrickson’s credits include “The Exorcism of Emily Rose” and “Sinister.” Marvel has several films slated to hit theaters before Doctor Strange conjures up his return to the big screen. This May brings “Black Widow,” with Scarlett Johansson reprising her role as the former Soviet spy, and 2020 will close out with the November release of “The Eternals,” the story of a race of immortal aliens. In February 2021, Marvel will unveil “Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings,” its first Asian-led film.

Dal sito The Disinsider:

‘Doctor Strange In The Multiverse of Madness’ Will Reportedly Involve The Return Mordo and the Time Stone

Less than a week after director Scott Derrickson announced his departure from Doctor Strange In The Multiverse of Madness, new details for the film have emerged via Backstage.

The site which posts casting and production details for various film, television, and stage projects released a synopsis which details the return of a familiar character.

“After the events of Avengers: Endgame, Dr. Stephen Strange continues his research on the Time Stone. But an old friend-turned-enemy puts an end to his plans and causes Strange to unleash unspeakable evil.”

The “old friend-turned-enemy” likely means the return of Baron Mordo (played by Chiwetel Ejiofor). Last we saw Mordo was in the post-credits scene for the first Doctor Strange film where confronts Jonathan Pangborn (played by Benjamin Bratt) and takes away his magic, explaining he is doing so because there are “too many sorcerers”.

Marvel Studios is currently on the search for a new director to take over, as the studio has confirmed that the film will move forward as scheduled with production starting in May.

Benedict Cumberbatch will return as the sorcerer supreme, along with Benedict Wong, as Wong, and Elizabeth Olsen as Scarlet Witch as her Disney+ series WandaVision will lead directly into Multiverse of Madness. It is unknown who the main villain is at this time but reports surfaced that Doctor Strange villain Nightmare would cause havoc in WandaVision, so it’s possible he could carry over into Multiverse of Madness.

The film was written by Jade Bartlett, who wrote a draft of the upcoming horror film The Turning for Universal Pictures. Marvel Studios CCO Kevin Feige will produce.

Doctor Strange In The Multiverse of Madness hits theaters on May 7, 2021.

Director Scott Derrickson has left the project and there’s not a replacement as yet. However, production is still planned for this summer in the UK. Veteran US casting director Sarah Finn is confirmed to be on board and it’s likely that Marvel’s trusty UK casting director Reg Poerscout-Edgerton will be casting soon.

Dal sito The Disinsider:

America Chavez Rumored For ‘Doctor Strange In The Multiverse Of Madness’

Over the last month or so, we’ve been graced with new details about the new sophomore Doctor Strange film. Today, The Illuminerdi has learned that America Chavez may be making her Marvel debut in Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness. They learned this information from some casting notes, so we’re crossing our fingers if this is true.

Here’s a quick run down on the character by the website: “America Chavez was created in 2011 by Jow Casey and Nick Dragotta as a new incarnation of the Miss America character. Chavez really came to prominence as a member of the 2013 Young Avengers series by Kieron Gillen and Jamie McKelvie. She’s a brash and confident brawler with a soft side, but she only opens up when she’s with her closest friends. She’s also an openly gay young woman, which would be a major step forward towards representation in the MCU to feature her in a lead role.”

No official word has been said, but more info should be coming soon.

Dal sito The Disinsider:

Brother Voodoo Rumored For ‘Doctor Strange In The Multiverse Of Madness’

As I said in our previous Doctor Strange article, tidbits and rumors are starting to circulate around the web and it doesn’t seem to be stopping any time soon. That being said, The Illuminerdi, has once again, dropped a major scoop for this film.

The site has revealed that Brother Voodoo could make his Marvel Cinematic Universe debut in Doctor Strange In the Multiverse of Madness. Another call sheet has hinted at the character; however, it doesn’t name him directly. An unknown character description depicts a Caribbean/Haitian male role but doesn’t give anything further. The site goes on to say that Haiti will play a much bigger role in the character, which leads them to believe that Brother Voodoo could make an appearance.

This could totally be plausible, due to the Haitian nationality of Brother Voodoo. He could fit perfectly with the aesthetic of the film.

Here’s a brief character background of Brother Voodoo supplied by the site:

“Based on a concept by Stan Lee and Roy Thomas, Brother Voodoo was created by Len Wein and John Romita Sr in 1973. After spending a great deal of time learning to become a psychologist in the United States, Jericho Drumm returns to his native Haiti to find his brother on death’s door. He’s revealed to be a Houngan, a voodoo priest who has been struck down by a disciple of the serpent god Damballah. Jericho ends up studying under Daniel’s former teacher Papa Jambo and proves to be a gifted voodoo sorcerer in his own right. Taking up the name Brother Voodoo, Jericho worked with the spirit of his departed brother Daniel to defeat the man who’d killed Daniel. Brother Voodoo quickly became an established superhero, assisting characters like Spider-Man, Black Panther, and Doctor Strange. Brother Voodoo even briefly held the title of Sorcerer Supreme for a period of time when Doctor Strange abdicated the position, although he was seemingly killed shortly after. He was restored during the events of the AXIS event however and has resumed his role as one of the dedicated magical heroes of Earth.“

No further information has been released and is still considered a rumor.

Dal sito MCU Cosmic:

Sam Raimi Confirms He’s Working on Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness

I thought we knew this already, but with the coronavirus pandemic going on any small bit of news gets broadcast across the internet like it’s never been heard before. Despite cancelling convention appearances due to “filming” Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness over the last couple of months, everyone on the Internet today is acting shocked and surprised that Sam Raimi says he’s working on the movie.

That’s what he told to a roundtable conversation with journalists, and ComicBook.com grabbed this quote from him:

“I loved Doctor Strange as a kid, but he was always after Spider-Man and Batman for me, he was probably at number five for me of great comic book characters,” Raimi said. “He was so original, but when we had that moment in Spider-Man 2 I had no idea that we would ever be making a Doctor Strange movie, so it was really funny to me that coincidentally that line was in the movie. I gotta say I wish we had the foresight to know that I was going to be involved in the project.”

I’m sure once filming begins later in the year and someone gets a set photo of him filming the movie we’ll go through this all over a gain with even more confirmations that Sam Raimi is actually making the new Doctor Strange movie.

Dal sito Murphy Multiverse:

EXCLUSIVE: ‘DOCTOR STRANGE’ SEQUEL SET TO FILM IN NOVEMBER

The production engine at Marvel Studios is starting back up and running and it’s about to shift into high gear. Murphy’s Multiverse has learned at production on Doctor Strange: In the Multiverse of Madness will begin in the UK in November. Originally scheduled to film in the Spring, production never got off the ground due to the COVID-19 pandemic. It was previously assumed that cameras wouldn’t roll on the sequel until 2021 but we have confirmed that production is now just 2 months away.

The potential implications of this are as exciting as the news itself. The sequel was twice a part of the COVID slate shuffle, moving first from its original May 7, 2021 release to November 5, 2021 before eventually landing on March 25, 2022 when the untitled Spider-Man sequel was moved into November. With Spidey 3 being pushed into December and production on Doctor Strange 2 about to get going, it is now POSSIBLE that we could see Benedict Cumberbatch’s Sorcerer Supreme slide back into that November 2021 window!

Scott Derrickson was originally back to helm the sequel before stepping down. At that point, Marvel Studios turned to Raimi as their point man to introduce the true multiverse to the MCU. The COVID-related delay may have been a blessing in disguise for the studio, giving Raimi and writer Michael Waldron, who was brought on in February to rewrite the script, time to find their creative groove.

Other signs, including some casting videos, have pointed to an imminent start of production for the film which is expected to introduce multiversal hero America Chavez, Jericho Drumm and Clea to the MCU. With the news that production will kick off soon, casting news is sure to follow.

Stay tuned as this story develops.

Da The Disinsider

Wiccan and Speed Rumored For ’Doctor Strange’ Sequel

Jeremy Conrad from MCU Cosmic reported that Wiccon and Speed Runner are rumored to appear in Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness.
Scarlett Witch will also appear in Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness and will reportedly bring the kids with her. No plot details have been disclosed so we don’t know what kind of role she’ll play.
The two characters are the children of Scarlett Witch and Vision and will appear throughout the Disney+ series, WandaVision.
The series will feature the children as babies but they are rumored to reach their teens by the end of the season.

While it’s unknown if they will reach that age, it’s refreshing to know they’re going in the route of the comics.

Production is expected to kick off in November at Longcross Studios in Surrey, England. So here is hoping the studio can safely get this done, as production on Warner Bros. highly-anticipated DC flick, The Batman, halted due to Star Robert Pattinson testing positive for COVID-19.
The film was expected to hit theaters on May 7, 2021, but due to the impact of the coronavirus, which shut down and halted major productions, the film was moved to a November 5, 2021 release before eventually landing on March 25, 2022. Could we see the film slide back into that November 2021 release? I personally don’t think so, but the door has slightly opened for that possibility with production a little over three months away now.
Directed by Sam Raimi (the original Spider-Man trilogy) and written by Jade Bartlett (The Turning), Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness will see the return of Benedict Cumberbatch as the sorcerer supreme, Benedict Wong as Wong, and will introduce Elizabeth Olsen as Scarlet Witch as her Disney+ series WandaVision will lead directly into the film. Rachel McAdams who played Dr. Christine Palmer in the first film is not expected to return.
Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness is scheduled to hit theaters on March 25, 2022.

Questo sì che sarebbe strafico!

Da The Direct

Marvel Studios Possibly Considering Tom Cruise for Alternate Reality Iron Man in Doctor Strange 2

One of the most exciting new ventures Marvel Studios will be journeying into with Phase 4 is the full-blown concept of the Marvel Cinematic Multiverse. After brief teases of this expansive new idea in the first Doctor Strange movie and another short mention of it during the Time Heist of Avengers: Endgame, the MCU has plans to dive into the deep end for 2022's Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness.

While no plot details have been revealed for the sequel, the title alone teases a never-before-seen adventure in this franchise as the Sorcerer Supreme gains even more mastery over both his own powers and the use of the Time Stone.

As if things weren't already crazy enough as well for this sequel, news has arrived on some of the potential ideas Marvel Studio has in store for this massive entry in Phase 4.

In a new release from insider Daniel RPK's Patreon account, Marvel Studios is reportedly considering using a number of different cameos to show multiple versions of Benedict Cumberbatch's Doctor Strange through the course of 2022's Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness. While nothing is confirmed to be happening yet, the post reveals something interesting about actor Tom Cruise:

I have they are considering a bunch of interesting cameos for Strange to play different versions of chatacter we know. One example I heard of they are considering is Tom Cruise as Tony Stark from another Earth (At one point Cruise almost got the role of Stark before RDJ)

WHAT THIS MEANS
MCU fans have been hoping ever since this movie's initial announcement that the studio wouldn't hold back any punches, and if this proves to be true, this could mean that absolutely massive things are coming when the MCU Multiverse is finally fully explored. So far, the only non-Doctor Strange use of this expansive world was from Mysterio in Spider-Man: Far From Home, although it was proven to be completely fake before the end of the film.

The Tom Cruise information is such an exciting prospect for Marvel Studios, and it could open the door for many potential Marvel actors to have even a small moment in the next magical adventure. This also isn't the first time this theory has been crossed, with another rumor from January mentioning the idea of different versions of MCU characters in this movie as well.

The list of MCU potentials over the years has included some of the best and biggest names Hollywood has had to offer, and with so many characters in existence, this could be the perfect opportunity for director Sam Raimi and Marvel Studios to completely open the flood gates in terms of cameos and new multiverse versions of MCU heroes. As excited as fans have already been for this movie, it now seems that almost no movie in Phase 4 has more hype attached to it over the next year and a half.

Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness is set to hopefully begin production in November 2020, and is scheduled to release in theaters on March 25, 2022.

E pure questo sarebbe proprio cool!

Da Universo Cinematografico Marvel

DOCTOR STRANGE IN THE MULTIVERSE OF MADNESS: CHRIS EVANS TORNERÀ COME CAPTAIN AMERICA AGENTE DELL’HYDRA?

‘Doctor Strange 2’: ‘Baby-Sitters Club’ Star Xochitl Gomez Joins Benedict Cumberbatch In Next Installment

EXCLUSIVE: Xochitl Gomez is going from The Baby-Sitters Club to the Marvel Cinematic Universe. We are hearing that Gomez has joined the cast of Marvel’s Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness, in which Benedict Cumberbatch returns to reprise the title role with Sam Raimi taking over directing duties.

Marvel had no comment.

Benedict Wong and Chiwetel Ejiofor also are expected to reprise their roles from the original film as, respectively, fellow sorcerer Wong and Strange’s compatriot-turned-nemesis Karl Mordo. And Elizabeth Olsen has been tapped to reprise her role as Scarlet Witch, aka Wanda Maximoff, for a storyline that Marvel Studios chief Kevin Feige has said will link up with her Disney Plus series WandaVision that debuts in December.

Plot details and Gomez’s character are unknown at this time. Production will begin after Cumberbatch finishes filming on the next Spider-Man pic, where Cumberbatch also will be playing Doctor Strange.

Raimi replaces original director Scott Derrickson, who departed the project in January due to creative differences. Derrickson remains as an executive producer. Raimi, meanwhile, will need to get up to speed before the film’s scheduled production start date in May.

This would mark Gomez’s firs role in a studio tentpole after landing one of the leads in Netflix’s reboot of the classic book series The Baby-Sitter’s Club. Other credits include Roped and Shadow Wolves. She is repped by Savage Agency.

Dal sito The Knowledge Online:

Filming begins on Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness

Shooting is underway at Longcross Studios on Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness, starring Benedict Cumberbatch as the superhero surgeon who defends the world against mystical threats.

Produced by Marvel Studios, the feature is a sequel to 2016’s Doctor Strange and Avengers: Endgame, and marks the 29th film in the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU). Elizabeth Olsen, Benedict Wong and Chiwetel Ejiofor co-star.

Sam Raimi is in the director’s chair, having replaced Scott Derrickson earlier this year; Derrickson remains involved as an executive producer.

Longcross Studios is one of the UK’s key production hubs, permanent home to the long-running BBC One hit period drama Call the Midwife. It recently hosted filming on Kenneth Branagh’s big-screen adaptation of Death on the Nile.

The demand for UK studio space is huge, and as a result there are several major expansion schemes in the pipeline as well as plans for new, purpose-built sites due to open in the next two years.

Da BadTaste

Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness: Xochitl Gomez sarà America Chavez!

LEGGI: tutte le ultime notizie sull’Investor Day

DOCTOR STRANGE IN THE MULTIVERSE OF MADNESS: ADAM HUGILL È ENTRATO NEL CAST DEL FILM [RUMOR]

In The Multiverse of Madness.

Da That Hashtag Show

EXCLUSIVE: GHOST RIDER COMING TO THE MCU

Last week we talked about Bloodborne coming to HBO. This week, we’re talking about something huge. Ghost Rider.

We can exclusively confirm that Ghost Rider is coming to the MCU. When the rights to the character reverted, Marvel had to decide what to do with the character.

HOW DOES JOHNNY BLAZE FIT INTO THE MCU?

I’ve seen concept art from Doctor Strange In The Multiverse Of Madness that shows Ghost Rider. From what I’ve seen and heard, it’ll be a cameo at best but considering Multiverse Of Madness is exploring the multiverse and will have horror elements, a cameo will fit in with the movie while not distracting too much from the rest of the film.

While Ghost Rider can appear in his own movie, it’s said that like The Hulk, he’ll appear in other movies as a side character.

The character started off in comics, but then moved to the movies with Nicolas Cage playing Johnny Blaze twice in films: Ghost Rider and Spirit of Vengeance. Those films ranged from stupid fun to simply meh. It was a fun romp with the character, but Marvel isn’t going to continue with that track.

As for casting, while this may be disappointing for fans, Marvel is not going to bring back Gabriel Luna, from Agents of Shield, or Nic Cage. It will be the Johnny Blaze character but recast.

Scelta bizzarra davvero.

Da The Disinsider

Yenifer Molina Has Joined ‘Doctor Strange 2’ As Gargantos

Yenifer Molina (Detective Pikachu) has apparently joined the cast of Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness. This comes from a Twitter page called @DrStrangeUpdate as they uncovered the actresses role.

For those unfamiliar with the character, Gargantos was a sea-monster at the command of Naga. Naga is a Lemurian emperor who wields the mystical Serpent Crown, which gives the wearer superhuman strength, the power to read and control minds, as well as many other abilities. Gargantos first appeared in X-Factor (1986) Annual #4 and again in The Sub-Mariner (1968) #13. Both issues have the sea-monster battling Namor the Sub-Mariner.

No official word has been disclosed.[...]
