Ecco l'annuncio:

“Sofia the First” (new animated special and series pilot)

“Sofia the First,” a full length animated special and series pilot, set in the storybook world of the classic Disney Princesses, introduces Sofia, a little girl with a commoner’s background until her mom marries the King and suddenly she is royalty. Sofia is whisked off to the castle, where she learns what it means to be a real princess, discovering empowering lessons about kindness, forgiveness, generosity, courage and self-respect. With the help of the three familiar fairies in charge of the Royal Training Academy – Flora, Fauna and Merryweather of Disney’s classic “Sleeping Beauty” – Sofia learns that looking like a princess isn’t all that hard, but behaving like one must come from the heart. The writer is Craig Gerber (“The Pixie Hollow Games”) and the executive producer/director is Jamie Mitchell (“Special Agent Oso”). It is a production of Disney Television Animation.

In fall 2012, Disney Junior will premiere Sofia the First, a new full length animated special and series pilot set in the storybook world of the classic Disney Princess characters. It introduces Sofia, a little girl with a commoner's background until her mom marries the King and suddenly she is royalty. With the help of the three familiar fairies in charge of the Royal Training Academy — Flora, Fauna and Merryweather of Disney's classic "Sleeping Beauty" and, on occasion, classic Disney Princess characters including Cinderella, Sleeping Beauty and Snow White — Sofia learns that looking like a princess isn't all that hard but behaving like one must come from the heart.

Dal sito http://jimhillmedia.com/editor_in_chief1/b/jim_hill/archive/2011/12/12/disney-junior-s-quot-sofia-the-first-quot-wants-to-help-preschoolers-channel-their-inner-royal.aspx:

Disney Junior's "Sofia the First" wants to help preschoolers channel their inner royal

It's the story that begins where most classic Walt Disney Animation Studios productions end. With the good hearted commoner suddenly becoming a princess.

Mind you, in Sofia's case, she isn't some plucky teen who ascends to the throne because her fairy godmother, some dwarfs, a singing candelabra, a pompous crustacean and/or her pet chameleon helps out. No, she's just a regular little girl who suddenly becomes royalty when her mother Miranda marries King Roland. And now Sofia finds herself living in the castle with her step step-siblings, Amber and James.

This is a pretty big change for this cute little commoner. So - to help Sofia the First find her way in this new world - Queen Miranda and King Roland decide to enroll her in Royal Prep. Where Sofia will learn how to become a royal by being taken under the wing (literally) of the three Good Fairies from Disney's "Sleeping Beauty," Flora, Fauna and Merryweather.

That's the basic premise of "Sofia the First." Which will premiere on Disney Junior as an animated television movie in the Fall of 2012 and then roll out as a full-blown TV series during the Spring of 2013. But as for Disney Television Animation's goals for this project, they hope that "Sofia" will be a way to communicate positive messages & life lessons to Disney Junior's target audience, which is preschool-aged children.

"(With 'Sofia the First'), we have a 'peer to peer princess,' a relatable girl experiencing the same social issues as our young viewers - learning how to fit in, making new friends, conquering new skills and building sibling relationships." Nancy Kanter, Senior Vice President, Original Programming and General Manager, Disney Junior Worldwide, said. "Although Sofia will have (the) pretty dresses and sparkly shoes (that every Disney Princess has), our stories will show Sofia, and our viewers, that what makes a real princess is what's inside, not what's outside. That the inner character of kindness, generosity, loyalty, honesty and grace (is what) make you special, not the dress you wear."

And given that "Sofia the First" is the very first time that Mickey has ever built an animated television movie and a TV series around a Disney Princess ... Well, Mouse House executives knew that they had to recruit some extra-special voice talent for this project. Which is Disney Television Animation reached out to Ariel Winter (who plays Alex Dunphy on that hit ABC series, "Modern Family") to voice Sofia. Tony Award-winner Sara Ramirez (best known for her work as Dr. Callie Torres on "Grey's Anatomy") was tapped to voice Queen Miranda. Wayne Brady of "Whose Line Is It Anyway?" fame will be providing comic relief as Clover, a wise-talking rabbit, while Tim Gunn (Yes, THAT Tim Gunn. Designer mentor from "Project Runway." Not to mention being a key player in ABC's "One Life to Live" replacement, "The Revolution") will be voicing the royal family's loyal steward, Baileywick.

And if that's not enough to make you give "Sofia the First" a try, did I mention that - on extra-special occasions over the course of this animated television movie and TV series - classic Disney Princesses like Snow White, Cinderella and Sleeping Beauty will also be making appearances on this show.

In short, "Sofia the First" will continue the work that the Company has done with such Disney Junior series as "Mickey Mouse Clubhouse," "Jake and the Never Land Pirates" and "Minnie's Bow-Toons." Which is to introduce children 2 - 7 to many of Disney's classic characters. Not to mention using Disney-style storytelling to help educate kids about the benefits of healthy eating & staying active as well as helping young viewers develop their language & social skills.

And speaking of social skills ... That's going to be one of the key messages of "Sofia the First." The main thrust of Sofia's lessons at Royal Prep won't be pomp & circumstances. But - rather - how this new Disney Princess can learn to get along better with her new step-siblings, James and Amber. Which - in this age of blended families - should be a lesson that resonates with a lot of people.

Disney's "Sofia the First" was developed by Craig Gerber. This animated television movie & new TV series are expected to be a key component of Disney Junior's schedule when this Disney Channel programming block becomes a standalone basic cable & satellite channel in the U.S. in mid-2012.

So will you be checking out this new Disney Princess when she makes her debut next Fall? Or will "Sofia the First" be the last thing you want to watch? How do you feel about the Company turning classic Walt Disney Animation Studios characters like Snow White, Cinderella and Sleeping Beauty (not to mention Flora, Fauna and Merryweather) into featured players on a preschool TV show?

Your thoughts?

Last night’s premiere of Disney Junior’s animated special Sofia The First: Once Upon A Princess delivered 5.2 million total viewers on Disney Channel, becoming the top cable telecast of 2012 among kids 2-5 (1.5 million/9.1 rating) and girls 2-5 (954,000/12.2 rating). In fact, Sofia The First, which stirred controversy over the ethnicity of the lead character, ranked as the No. 1 cable TV telecast in five years in kids 2-5 (since Spongebob Atlantis Pantis on November 12, 2007) and in more than 10 years in girls 2-5 (Oswald on May 6, 2002). It now stands as Disney Channel’s No. 1 telecast ever among girls 2-5, its No. 2 telecast among kids 2-5 (behind High School Musical 2) and its No. 1 preschool telecast ever in total viewers, adults 18-49 and women 18-49. The movie averaged more than 3.0 million kids 2-11 and more than 1.4 million adults 18-49. It will have its Disney Jr premiere on Thursday at 9 AM.

Sofia The First: Once Upon A Princess will kick off a Sofia The First series, whose January premiere date will be announced shortly. Created for kids ages 2-7, the movie introduces Sofia, an average girl whose life suddenly transforms when her mother marries the king of Enchancia and she becomes a princess. The film drew complaints from Hispanic groups over the Caucasian look of the title character vs. her alleged Latin heritage.

a proposito

Sofia the First arriverà ANCHE IN ITALIA!

Sofia the First’ Special Starring Mandy Moore, Anna Camp and John Michael Higgins Sets Premiere Date

Oliver Platt will also appear in episode of the Disney series titled “The Curse of Princess Ivy”

Anna Camp and John Michael Higgins are making a visit to Enchancia on Nov. 23 — and Mandy Moore and Oliver Platt are coming along too.

“Pitch Perfect” pair Camp and Higgins, “Saved!” actress Moore and “Fargo” actor Platt will make their “Sofia the First” debut with the special “Sofia the First: The Curse of Princess Ivy,” which will premiere Nov. 23 at 7 p.m. on Disney Channel.

In the special, Amber (voiced by Darcy Rose Byrnes) discovers Sofia's amulet is magical and takes it without permission, inadvertently summoning an evil princess, Ivy, who's set on taking over Enchancia.

Camp will play the nefarious Princess Ivy, while Higgins will play the self-appointed leader of an all-dragon a cappella group. Pratt will voice the character of Everburn, Enchancia's oldest-living dragon.

Moore will reprise the role of Rapunzel from Disney's “Tangled.”

The week prior to the special's premiere, Disney Channel will air “Sofia the First” episodes featuring Disney princesses Cinderella, Snow White, Ariel, Aurora, Belle, Jasmine and Mulan. The network will also debut “I Am a Princess” interstitials featuring stories from Disney movies including “Frozen” and “The Little Mermaid,” as told through the eyes of children.

A preview of “Sofia the First: The Curse of Princess Ivy” and a game based on the special will debut on WATCHDisneyJunior.com and the WATCH Disney Junior app starting Nov. 10.

Sofia the First Princess Merida BraveCOURTESY OF DISNEY JUNIOR
SEPTEMBER 1, 2015 | 09:00AM PT
Elizabeth Wagmeister
@EWagmeister
“Sofia the First” is welcoming special guest star, Princess Merida from Disney Pixar’s “Brave.” She will appear on the Oct. 12 episode of the animated series, Disney Junior announced Tuesday.

In the episode, Sofia’s Aunt Tilly returns to give the little princess a gift that will unlock a secret world and appoint her as the storykeeper of magical books in “Sofia the First: The Secret Library,” the first installment of a four-part story arc, which kicks off on Oct. 12 with Merida.

Ruth Connell (“Supernatural”) voices Merida, and “Downton Abbey’s” Hugh Bonneville lends his voice as the narrator throughout the four-part “Secret Library” episodes.

Bonnie Hunt returns to voice Aunt Tilly, and Eric Stonestreet reprises his role Sofia’s flying horse, Minimus, reuniting with his “Modern Family” costar Ariel Winter who plays the title character, Sofia. “Breaking Bad’s” Dean Norris is a guest voice actor on the episode, playing Minimus’ brother, Mazzimo, and Cary Elwes (“The Princess Bride”) will guest star as the nefarious Prince Roderick.

To accompany the “Secret Library” TV storyline, Disney Publishing Worldwide will release the illustrated storybook and e-book “Sofia the First: The Secret Library,” followed by an app on Oct. 8. A full-length preview of the episode and a “Secret Library” game will debut on the WATCH Disney Junior app and website on Oct. 5.

Merida is not the first princess to stop by “Sofia the First.” Cinderella, Rapunzel and Aurora have also appeared on the series.

The “Brave” princess is also coming to television in the upcoming fifth season of ABC’s “Once Upon A Time.” Scottish actress Amy Mason will play Merida in the “OUAT” storyline, which was first previewed this summer at Comic-Con.

The four-part “Secret Library” storyline debuts with Merida’s episode Oct. 12 on Disney Channel at 9:00 a.m. ET/PT and on Disney Junior at 7:00 a.m. ET/PT.
