‘WandaVision’ Spinoff Starring Kathryn Hahn in the Works at Disney Plus (EXCLUSIVE)

A “WandaVision” spinoff starring Kathryn Hahn is in development at Disney Plus from Marvel Studios, Variety has learned exclusively from sources.

Hahn would reprise the role of Agatha Harkness in the series, which is described by sources as a dark comedy, though exact plot details remain under wraps. “WandaVision” head writer Jac Schaeffer would serve as the writer and executive producer on the project. Should the spinoff go forward, it would be the first project Schaeffer has set up with Marvel since she signed an overall deal with them and 20th Television in May.

As with all projects in development, Marvel Studios is staying mum on this one. Reps for Schaeffer and Hahn did not immediately respond to Variety‘s request for comment.

In “WandaVision,” Hahn started out playing the role of Agnes, Wanda and Vision’s nosy neighbor, before it was revealed she was in fact Agatha, a powerful witch. In the Marvel comics and the series, Agatha is shown to have survived the Salem Witch Trials and is more than a match for Wanda, a.k.a. Scarlet Witch. When viewers last saw her in the finale of “WandaVision,” Wanda traps Agatha in Westview by using her powers to force her revert to her Agnes persona.

“WandaVision” aired earlier this year from January-March. The show, the first live-action Marvel series to debut on Disney Plus, was met with widespread acclaim upon its debut. It ultimately racked up 23 Emmy nominations, including one for Hahn for best supporting actress in a limited series. One of the show’s win came in the best original music and lyrics category for the song “Agatha All Along,” which was used as part of the reveal that Hahn’s character was not who she appeared to be.

For Hahn, Variety exclusively reported that she is also set to star in a limited series in development at Showtime centered on iconic comedian Joan Rivers. Her other upcoming projects include the Apple series “The Shrink Next Door” and the Rian Johnson feature “Knives Out 2.” Along with “WandaVision,” she previously earned an Emmy nomination for her time on Amazon’s “Transparent.”

She is repped by Lighthouse Management & Media, Gersh, Schreck Rose, and Narrative.

Schaeffer is also known for writing, directing, and producing the feature “TiMER” and also wrote the animated short “Olaf’s Frozen Adventure” and the feature “The Hustle” starring Anne Hathaway and Rebel Wilson. She also worked on the story for the Marvel feature “Black Widow.”

She is repped by Writ Large, Verve, and Paul Hastings.

RUMOR: Another A-List Comedian Will Join Kathryn Hahn In Marvel’s ‘House of Harkness’

Currently, not much is known about the Disney+ WandaVision spin-off Agatha: House of Harkness. While it’s believed production will begin this October, a new rumor suggests that casting is already underway.

According to gossip site Deuxmoi, the series will allegedly feature another A-list actress aside from Hahn. More specifically, the site claims that the actress joining her is a fellow actress with comedy roots, who has taken a break from acting over the last few years to focus on directing and producing. This will essentially be that person’s “return” to acting. Additionally, the site claims the actress in question is already pretty close to Hahn.

Now, while unconfirmed, we could only think of two actresses off the top of our heads: Elizabeth Banks and Amy Poehler. However, while Banks has produced more content behind the camera over the last few years, she and Hahn have only starred in one project together, Our Idiot Brother. That doesn’t mean they aren’t good friends outside of that.

Poehler on the other hand, who has spent the last few years in the director’s chair with Netflix’s Moxie and Amazon’s Lucy and Desi, worked together with Hahn on NBC’s Parks and Recreation. In the series Hahn played “political whiz” Jennifer Barkley, who tried to prevent Poehler’s Leslie Knope from being elected to city council.

Now, because this is a rumor, as always we urge you all to take it with a grain of salt. Even if it is true, that doesn’t mean Banks or Poehler will absolutely appear either. There could be another, less obvious actress who could wind up appearing.[...]

Elizabeth Olsen ha svelato se apparirà in Agatha: House of Harkness, lo spinoff di WandaVision con star Kathryn Hahn.
Per ora i dettagli riguardanti il progetto sonno veramente pochi e i fan stanno chiedendosi quale sarà il futuro di Wanda Maximoff/Scarlet Witch dopo gli eventi mostrati nel film Doctor Strange nel Multiverso della Follia.
Olsen, mentre era ospite di Good Morning America, ha ora dichiarato:
Farei qualsiasi cosa per lavorare con Kathryn Hahn!
La star della Marvel ha però spiegato:
Non apparirò nella serie, per quel che ne so. Ma voglio così tanto bene a quella donna, è così divertente. Quella serie è stata piena di gioia, è stato grandioso.
Dopo l’esperienza positiva vissuta sul set di WandaVision, Elizabeth Olsen spera quindi di essere coinvolta nello spinoff dedicato ad Agatha:
Spero che Kevin Feige stia guardando!

Nel finale di WandaVision la protagonista interpretata da Olsen si è trasformata in Scarlet Witch e ha tolto i suoi poteri ad Agatha, condannandola a vivere come Agnes, la vicina di Wanda, che le ha quindi ricordato ‘Non hai idea di cosa hai scatenato. Avrai bisogno di me’. Scarlet Witch risponde ‘Se sarà così, so dove trovarti’.

Tra i protagonisti della presentazione dei Marvel Studios al San Diego Comic-Con c’è stata anche la serie spin-off di WandaVision incentrata su Agatha Harkness, il personaggio interpretato da Kathryn Han nella serie con Elizabeth Olsen.

Rispetto a quanto riportato fino a pochi giorni, la serie si intitolerà Agatha: Coven of Chaos e non Agatha: House of Harkness e arriverà in streaming su Disney+ nel corso dell’inverno 2023. Ciò implica che le riprese partiranno entro la fine dell’anno e che il progetto chiuderà la ricchissima offerta di prodotti Marvel del 2023.

Al momento, ricordiamo, non è chiara la storia con al centro la strega Agatha Harkness e se si tratterà di un progetto prequel o sequel di WandaVision, che aveva mostrato il personaggio assumere la falsa identità di Agnes, una vicina di Wanda, per avvicinarsi alla protagonista interpretata da Elizabeth Olsen.

Una nuova casting per Agatha: Coven of Chaos suggerisce che i Marvel Studios potrebbero introdurre Teddy Altman nell’MCU.

Nell’inverno del 2024 arriverà su Disney+ Agatha: Coven of Chaos, la serie dei Marvel Studios spin-off di WandaVision e incentrata sul personaggio di Agatha Harkness (Kathryn Hahn), che arriverà prossimamente su Disney+.

Fin dall’annuncio, molti fan hanno sperato che nella serie potessero tornare anche i giovani figli di Wanda Maximoff, ovvero i gemelli Billy e Tommy.

Una casting call trapelata online la scorsa estate ha confermato il ritorno di Billy Maximoff/Wiccan, sebbene in una versione più adulta rispetto a quella vista in WandaVision e Doctor Strange nel Multiverso della Follia. La presenza del giovane Vendicatore lascia presupporre la partecipazione anche del gemello e quindi molti fan dei fumetti hanno iniziato a domandarsi se e quando Teddy Altman alias Hulkling, altro noto membro degli Young Avengers legato in particolare a Billy Maximoff.

A dare una risposta a questa domanda, sembra essere proprio una nuova casting call emersa in rete nelle scorse ore che pare riferirsi proprio a Teddy Altman. La produzione, infatti, è alla ricerca di un giovane ragazzo omosessuale di 18-20 anni, il cui personaggio è descritto come uno spirito solitario con un grande senso dell’umorismo, dal fisico atletico e perdutamente innamorato del suo ragazzo.

Se fosse confermato che la casting call si riferisca proprio a Teddy Altman, i fan possono iniziare a sognare che i Marvel Studios decidano di adattare anche la Crociata dei Bambini e i fumetti dei Young Avengers.

‘Agatha: Coven of Chaos’ Rumored to Setup a Major Young Avengers Storyline

Even though Marvel Studios Disney Plus streaming series Agatha: Coven of Chaos has been filming in Atlanta for several weeks, little is known about the plot of the WandaVision follow-up. Kathryn Hahn is back as Agatha–or maybe Agnes–and Joe Locke’s Billy Kaplan has been seen on set but just what their connection is to one another remains a bit of a mystery. While MCU fans wait to find out more about the project, a new rumor is circulating that indicates where things might go next for the characters.

According to My Time to Shine Hello, the events of Agatha: Coven of Chaos will act as a prelude to an adaptation of a nine-issue mini-series published by Marvel Comics between 2010 and 2012 titled Avengers: The Children’s Crusade. There was no indication if the project will be streaming series or a feature film.

Featuring the Young Avengers, Avengers: The Children’s Crusade focuses on Billy’s search for his missing mother, Wanda Maximoff, as his enormous powers begin to grow beyond his control. While it’s unlikely that Marvel Studios will closely adapt the mini-series, which features Magneto and Doctor Doom in key roles, it is a fitting follow-up to the events of WandaVision, Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness and Agatha: Coven of Chaos; it’s also a great indicator–for those who still doubt it–that Wanda is very much alive and (un)well in the MCU. As exciting as it sounds, fans shouldn’t get too worked up as the account indicates that the project won’t be ready until 2025 at the earliest.

WandaVision spin-off Agatha: Coven of Chaos received an exciting filming update, leaving the question of when it will release on Disney+.

Kathryn Hahn's Agatha Harkness solo project began filming its nine-episode season in January, and even all these months later, the exact story of the magical series remains just as mysterious as ever.

Coven of Chaos sports an impressive cast, with set photos having given a look at several, including one returning actor from WandaVision.

Despite a lack of confirmation, theories remain as rife as ever that Elizabeth Olsen's Scarlet Witch could return in Agatha after her apparent "death" in Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness.

Disney+'s Agatha Wraps Production In Atlanta

Agatha: Coven of Chaos cinematographer Jon Chema took to Instagram to share photos with several fellow crew members from the series wrap party, thereby confirming production on the WandaVision Disney+ spin-off has concluded.

Alongside a print-out of several Polaroid photos, Chema added, "What a ride the last 6 months has been!"

Production on Coven of Chaos began in Atlanta in mid-January this year and has just now wrapped the nine-episode season six months later.

Across the production, fans have been treated to a limited amount of set photos, from revealing curious plot points to the first look at Kathryn Hahn's MCU return.

With production now wrapped, at least in terms of principal photographer, many will be left wondering when Agatha will hit Disney+ after a reported delay from its originally announced Winter 2023/24 release window.

When Will Agatha: Coven of Chaos Release?

The original reports of Agatha: Coven of Chaos' delay from Winter 2023/24 claimed the project had been switched to TBD ("To Be Determined") at Marvel Studios, suggesting no new date was decided. The latest update for the release window stated the show was set to hit at some point in 2024.

Discussing the delay of Agatha, insider KC Walsh noted the move came due to "story reasons," perhaps suggesting another related project may need to release first. And with the MCU slate changing and evolving constantly due to a number of delays and difficulties, it makes sense why no new date would have been set.

But that begs the question of which MCU movie or show could connect to Coven of Chaos closely enough to push back the WandaVision spin-off. Well, looking at the Phase 5 slate, perhaps the best guess would be Ironheart, given the Iron Man spin-off is expected to involve magic and one rumored Agatha character.

According to reports, Borat actor Sacha Baron Cohen will make his MCU debut as Mephisto in the final two episodes of Ironheart. Supposedly, the Marvel devil may also show up in Coven of Chaos after he was rumored to do so throughout almost the entire run of its parent show WandaVision.

As Ironheart has also seemingly been delayed out of 2023 - with only Secret Invasion, Loki Season 2, and Echo to go for the MCU on Disney+ this year - a delay to Agatha may be required until that show has an official date.

Marvel Studios also has a massive Daredevil: Born Again-sized roadblock to work around on Disney+ next year, as the street-level series will be 18 episodes long and therefore take up a large chunk of the year. But as that show is still early in production, Agatha will no doubt end up releasing before it.

With Echo set to drop all its episodes on November 29, Ironheart will likely kick off early next year, with the series only set to run for six episodes. So, chances are the WandaVision spin-off won't make it into its Winter release window, but rather will probably push into mid to late Spring of 2024, likely forcing Daredevil's premiere into Summer with it.

As of now, Marvel Studios hasn't commented much on the subject of delays, but the studio will likely be forced to deliver an updated MCU slate as soon as next month when it presumably returns to Hall H at San Diego Comic-Con in July.

Despite an almost-certain delay, Agatha: Coven of Chaos is still officially dated for Winter 2023/24 at this time.
