Da Hollywood Reporter:

Disney Developing Live-Action 'Mulan' (Exclusive)

On the heels of the magical success of Disney's live-action Cinderella, the studio is eyeing another live-action retelling: Mulan.

Disney bought a script by writing team Elizabeth Martin and Lauren Hynek that centers on the Chinese legend of Hua Mulan, the female warrior who was the main character in Disney's 1998 animated film.

Chris Bender and J.C. Spink (We're the Millers) are producing the new project.

The 1998 film, directed by Tony Bancroft and Barry Cook, followed a young woman who disguises herself as a man so she can take her father's place in the army and go to war. With the help of her trusty dragon sidekick Mushu, she becomes a skilled warrior and, eventually, one of the country's greatest heroines. It earned $304.3 million worldwide, earned Golden Globe and Academy Award nominations and resulted in a 2005 direct-to-DVD sequel, Mulan II.

Disney has been on a roll with its live-action versions of its classic animated films. Cinderella, starring Lily James, has earned $336.2 million worldwide to date since hitting theaters three weeks ago. In 2010, the reimagined Alice in Wonderland grossed a staggering $1.02 billion and when Maleficent, starring Angelina Jolie as the iconic villainess, opened in May 2014, it went on to earn a stunning $758.4 million worldwide.

Disney is also making a live-action retelling of Beauty and the Beast, starring Emma Watson and Dan Stevens. Audra McDonald just joined the cast of the project, which will be directed by Bill Condon. It hits theaters on March 17, 2017. And in 2016 Disney will release a new version of The Jungle Book and the sequel to Alice in Wonderland. Finally, a live-action version of Dumbo, which will be helmed by Tim Burton, is also in the works.

Writing team Martin and Hynek met in high school, among other projects, have written for the Know Theatre of Cincinnati and rewrote a script for Amazon Studios.

Glee Star Jenna Ushkowitz Rumored to Star in Upcoming Disney Live Action "Mulan"

Do you think Jenna's 'Reflection' shows what Mulan is inside? Disney seems to think so!

Reports a source who wishes to remain anonymous:

"Twitter is buzzing about the possibility that Jenna Ushkowitz, former Broadway star, and star of Glee will be playing the heroine of Disney’s newest live action project, Mulan.

Studios have developed a reputation for 'whitewashing' their casts, replacing characters of ethnic descent with more popular white actors. Disney had itself received significant negative attention for this over the years, not the least of which is a petition signed by over 70,000 people demanding that they respect the cultural heritage of the stories they tell.

Among the potential talent for Mulan, virtually none possesses the combination of star quality, relevant age, musical talent, and beauty Disney would need for its lead. It's unsurprising that fans are rallying behind Ushkowitz who, thanks to her long tenure as Tina Cohen-Chang on Glee, has significant credibility with this film’s target audience."

Oddio, Jenna!

Scherzi a parte, Mulan live action sembra interessante, chissà chi sceglieranno come attrice.

Rumor:

‘Mulan’ Live-Action Film Updates: Casting rumors continue; Jamie Chung of ‘Once Upon A Time’ may reprise titular character on big screen

'Mulan' is a planned live-action adaptation of the classic animated film by Disney. Casting speculations continue and the newest rumor suggests that Jamie Chung will be playing the lead role. Chung, who portrays Mulan in the hit television series 'Once Upon A Time', may reprise her role as the titular character in the big-screen adaptation.

Ever since news of the live-version had been dropped, there continues to be no official announcement regarding casting. It was reported by Variety that its project will be based on the script done by Elizabeth Martin and Lauren Hynek and has been set-up by Chris Bender and J.C. Spink.
The original 1998 animated musical focused on the Chinese warrior Fa Mulan who disguised herself as a man in order to replace her aging father who was drafted for war. It starred Ming-Na Wen as Mulan, Eddie Murphy as Mushu, and BD Wong as Captain Li Shang among others. It also earned several prestigious accolades including Annie Awards for Best Animated Feature as well as nominations for both the Golden Globes and the Academy Awards.
According to Moviepilot, a new fan favorite to play the title role has emerged. Jamie Chung, who is currently playing Mulan in Season 2 of 'Once Upon A Time', may reprise her role as the legendary female warrior in Disney's live-version. The actress of Korean descent is known for her past work in films including 'Premium Rush', 'Eden', 'Suckerpunch' and 'Dragonball Evolution'. She broke out into the Hollywood scene as a reality television star in MTV's 'The Real World'.

Another star contender for the lead role is 'Glee' star Jenna Ushkowitz. According to Movie News Guide, the actress made headlines on the rumor mill after a petition discouraging possible whitewashing gained enough supporters. Ushkowitz is also of Korean descent as opposed to Mulan who is Chinese.
'Mulan' is a planned live-action adaptation of the 1998 animated musical based on the famous heroine from Chinese lore. The original Disney film earned $304 million against a $90 million budget, according to Box Office Mojo.

Quindi Mulan fanno benissimo a farla.
