An Eternals Love Triangle is Confirmed

Ever since the first footage of Eternals was shown at CCXP in Brazil back in December, rumors surfaced that the movie would involve a love triangle between three characters. The CCXP footage hinted that Ikaris and Sersi had a history together, and then we saw Sersi and Dane kissing in set photos during the filming in London. Now that love triangle is confirmed.

In an interview with Vanity Fair Italia, Gemma Chan says Sersi is involved with two love stories in the movie:

“Sersi is the one that has the most affinity with humans, indeed she is even involved in two love stories, an absolute novelty for Marvel events and one of the reasons that attracted me of this project.”

Even though Sersi and Dane are the two lead characters, the upcoming trailer for the movie will apparently feature a lot of footage of Ikaris and Thena as they’re the biggest starts in the ensemble cast.

Sersi and Black Knight Confirmed to be the Leads of The Eternals

It’s been suspected for a long time, but now there appears to be confirmation of who exactly the two lead characters in the story of The Eternals will be. Even though it’s an ensemble cast, the story will focus on two specific characters and we know who they are now.

According to a post earlier this week by Daniel Richtman, the two leads in the movie were confirmed to be Sersi and Black Knight to people who visited the set prior to the end of production. If you remember the set photos that leaked from the London filming, it’s a love story between the immortal Eternal Sersi and the human Dane Whitman (also known as Black Knight). The two characters have a long history together in the comics and were very prominent members of The Avengers in the early 90s, so this news shouldn’t shock those who are familiar with the original versions of the two.

A love story between a human and an Eternal was also part of the Jack Kirby run, where Margo Damian met Ikaris. In the MCU version, Dan Whitman is taking on the human role that Margo Damian played in the comic (and there are rumors he’s an archeologist as well), while Sersi is the Eternal he falls in love with.

Of course this brings up the question of how the MCU Ikaris fits into all of this as they cast Richard Madden in the role, and the footage screened at CCXP back in December seems to indicate that he and Sersi have a history together, much like in the comics as well. That could lead to a love triangle between Black Knight, Ikaris, and Sersi, giving some more drama to the epic that will tell a story over thousands of years.

This news might be disappointing for some fans who were hoping for a bigger role for Ikaris, but it’s clear that Marvel sees this as a potential franchise so it won’t be the last we see of The Eternals in the MCU.

Brian Tyree Henry’s Phastos is Eternals’ Openly Gay Hero

Last summer, Kevin Feige announced that Marvel would continue its push toward diversity on the big screen by featuring an openly gay character in the upcoming Eternals movie. Marvel has been keeping the identity of this character under wraps. But in a new interview with Logo, Haaz Sleiman revealed his involvement in the film, Sleiman also shared that he’s playing the husband of Brian Tyree Henry’s character, the Eternal known as Phastos.

Sleiman didn’t say whether his character is mortal or if he has powers like his onscreen husband. Regardless, he did confirm what Feige told fans almost a year ago, which is that Phastos and his husband are raising a child together. Sleiman also promised that one scene in Eternals shows the couple kissing.

“For me it’s very important to show how loving and beautiful a queer family can be,” said Sleiman. “Brian Tyree Henry is such a tremendous actor and brought so much beauty into this part, and at one point I saw a child in his eyes, and I think it’s important for the world to be reminded that we in the queer community were all children at one point. We forget that because we’re always depicted as sexual or rebellious. We forget to connect on that human part.”

Earlier this week, Taika Waititi reiterated his openness to exploring Valkyrie’s sexuality in Thor: Love and Thunder next year. However, Waititi also said this will ultimately be Marvel’s call to make.

Rumor: We Will See Atlantis in Eternals

Phase 4 is kicking off a whole new era of the Marvel Cinematic Universe, and there are going to be a lot of new characters introduced to audiences. It’s been long rumored that we’d see Namor pop up in the MCU, and many believe it’ll be in Black Panther II, but if you’ve watched the Infinity Saga; you’ll know how Marvel likes to set things up far in advance.

The Super Soldier Serum was introduced in The Incredible Hulk before we saw Captain America: The First Avenger. That movie then introduced the concept of Vibranium, before Wakanda was named in Avengers: Age of Ultron (before that it was seen on a map in Iron Man 2).

Much like the early references to Wakanda, a new rumor says we’ll get a nod to Namor in Eternals. The rumor says that at some point in the movie (possibly a montage or something) we’ll see the sinking of Atlantis on screen.

Eternals is set over 35,000 years in the MCU, and we already know that we’ll be seeing ancient Babylon in the movie. If we’re going that far back in the past of the MCU, it’s the perfect opportunity for them to show something like Atlantis sinking, which would of course be a big setup to introducing Namor for a bigger role in the future.

Four Eternals LEGO Sets Are Scheduled For October

Even though Eternals has been delayed until February of 2021, it looks like the merchandise is still scheduled for release later in the fall before the movie’s original release date. We’ve already heard some information about the Funko Pops, and now information about the LEGO sets have surfaced.

While Black Widow only has one LEGO set tied to the movie (the helicopter chase set that’s in stores now), Eternals will have four sets. According to the site Promo Bricks, there are four set for October. One set at $10, another at $20, a $60 set, and finally a big $100 set.

Eternals has always been positioned as a new MCU franchise for Marvel Studios, and the movie is obviously going to be pretty epic if there’s enough material for four LEGO sets. This is similar in scale to Avengers: Endgame, which launched five sets last spring prior to the finale of the Infinity Saga.

As of right now there aren’t any details about what these four sets might be, but that sort of information will likely be leaking sooner rather than later.

The Eternals Actor Reveals New Team Poster in Behind-the-Scenes Image



The Eternals is set for release on February 12, 2021, and will be the first film of Phase 4 to establish a new set of characters in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. No official plot details have surfaced yet, although listings for upcoming merchandise point to possible story beats.

Whilst news from The Eternals has been quiet as of late, presumably in anticipation of a new trailer at some point down the road, some interesting tidbits have surfaced. Kumail Nanjiani, who plays Kingo, talked about the significance of being Marvel Studios' first Pakistani superhero as well as the struggles with his self-image surrounding his muscular transformation. A cast listing also indicated that the film would span various different points in history, specifically some sort of Babylonian wedding in one portion of the film.

Don Lee, also known as Ma Dong-seok, plays the character of Gilgamesh in the film and has now shared some photos which reveal interesting details about the film...

Don Lee shared a new photo to his Instagram page showing off several photos from the production of The Eternals from last year. Within these, there are images of a welcome letter from Marvel Studios addressed to Lee, as well as Lee's on-set chair.

Most notably, Lee shared a photo of his trailer, which includes a new poster featuring The Eternals:



The image itself is relatively dark and covered in shadow, but some aspects of the poster still stand out. The most apparent aspect is that the The Eternals themselves are front and center, reinforcing that they are reuniting to deal with the threat of the Deviants as illustrated by the plot synopsis:

Marvel Studios' The Eternals features an exciting new team of Super Heroes in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, ancient aliens who have been living on Earth in secret for thousands of years. Following the events of Avengers: Endgame, an unexpected tragedy forces them out of the shadows to reunite against mankind's most ancient enemy, The Deviants.


The poster also features what seem to be, at-first, unusual light fixtures in the night sky above the team. On closer inspection, these circles of light appear to be from the helmet of a Celestial, the very same one that appears in Guardians of the Galaxy. This character's prominent appearance in this poster conveys the sheer scale of these beings, completely dwarfing The Eternals.

Marvel fans will be able to see how the team interacts with these gargantuan beings when The Eternals releases in theaters on February 12, 2021.

‘Eternals’: Chloé Zhao Is Bringing Her “Deep, Strong Manga Roots” To Marvel’s Upcoming Blockbuster

When it was originally announced way back in September 2018, the idea that Marvel Studios selected Chloé Zhao to helm “Eternals” was shocking, to say the least. At that point, the filmmaker’s biggest credit was for her acclaimed indie, “The Rider.” Though that film is undeniably great, “The Rider” didn’t seem like a calling card for a director looking to direct a superhero film. Yet, in February 2021 (if it doesn’t get delayed again), “Eternals” is arriving in theaters and Zhao is going to show the world what she can do with a $200 million budget. And according to the filmmaker, what she does with “Eternals” is to stay true to herself as a fan and as a filmmaker.

Speaking to THR, while promoting the upcoming festival debut of her next feature (and early Oscar contender), “Nomadland,” Zhao was asked about “Eternals.” And right off the bat, the filmmaker wants to assure fans that she’s not coming into the world of superheroes and fantasy cold. In fact, she has her own lifetime of fandom to build from.

“I have such deep, strong manga roots,” says Zhao. “I brought some of that into ‘Eternals.’ And I look forward to pushing more of that marriage of East and West.”

She added, “How much further and bigger can we go after ‘[Avengers:] Endgame?’ Because I’m not just making the film as a director. I’m making the film as a fan.”

Now, there are many film fans that hear about another acclaimed indie director making the leap to blockbusters and roll their eyes. Most just assume that Marvel Studios hired Zhao but is making her bend to the will of Disney and the decades of MCU success. However, as the filmmaker explained, that’s not really the case. If anything, she’s shocked at the amount of creative freedom she’s been afforded.

“I shot exactly the way I wanted to shoot,” Zhao said. “On location. A lot of magic hour. Three-hundred-sixty degrees on the same camera as I did on Nomadland. Same rigs. It’s a bit surreal. I’m still waiting for the shoe to drop. It hasn’t. I think I got lucky in that Marvel wants to take risks and do something different.”

There’s a lot of hype surrounding “Eternals” before it arrives in theaters. Not only is Zhao an impressive filmmaker, but she’s brought in an incredible cast filled with tons of diversity and actually plans on including the MCU’s first example of an LGBTQ+ leading character. But in her eyes, she doesn’t want people to focus on the diversity and inclusion. Instead, she wants to show the relationship between each of the characters.

“I wanted it to reflect the world we live in,” she says. “But also I wanted to put a cast together that feels like a group of misfits. I didn’t want the jocks. I want you to walk away at the end of the movie not thinking, ‘This person is this ethnicity, that person is that nationality.’ No. I want you to walk away thinking, ‘That’s a family.’ You don’t think about what they represent. You see them as individuals.”

“Eternals” is set to debut on February 12, 2021. “Nomadland” will debut at a variety of fall festivals before arriving in theaters on December 4.

After a long year of no Marvel content, we’ve been getting little pieces at what’s to come. Next year, Marvel will have one of their biggest slates and will ultimately set up a larger world for our characters.

Among those projects, Eternals have finally released their character breakdowns for the film.

Ikaris is the tactical leader and most powerful Eternal and takes pride in keeping the other Eternals safe. Moral, kind and charismatic, Ikaris boasts the power of incredible strength, flight and the ability to project beams of intense cosmic energy from his eyes. When the monstrous Deviants return after centuries, Ikaris leads the charge to unite the scattered Eternals to stop the new threat. You bet we’ll have some Ikaris t-shirts available as well!

Sersi is the Eternal with an affinity for humanity. Sersi is as happy working as a museum curator as she is saving humans from the threat of the Deviants. Sersi has the ability to manipulate matter, changing the makeup of any non-sentient material she touches. She’s also been in love with Ikaris for centuries, and helps him to recruit the Eternals for one last mission.

Ajak is the spiritual leader of the Eternals. Her wisdom has helped guide the team since they arrived here from their home planet to help defend humanity from the Deviants and to help humans advance to the modern civilization that they live in today. Ajak can not only heal humans and Eternals alike, but she is able to communicate with the Celestials as well.

Phastos is blessed with the power of invention. He is able to create whatever he can imagine provided that he has enough raw materials at his disposal. Over the centuries, Phastos has helped nudge humanity forward technologically while always keeping his brilliance hidden in the shadows.

Makkari is the fastest woman in the universe. She uses her cosmically powered super-speed to scout planets for the Eternals, and as the only deaf Eternal, the sonic boom that accompanies her cosmic running does not affect her.

Druig can use cosmic energy to control the minds of men. Druig has become withdrawn from the other Eternals because he disagrees with how they’ve interacted with mankind over the centuries. Aloof and powerful, at times it’s hard to determine whether he’s friend of foe.

Gilgamesh is the strongest and kindest member of the team. He becomes Thena’s de facto partner when the events of the past exile them from the rest of the team. Capable of projecting a powerful exoskeleton of cosmic energy, Gilgamesh is a fierce warrior who has become legendary for his fights with Deviants throughout history.

Thena, a fierce warrior more comfortable in battle than any other place, she has the ability to use cosmic energy to form any handheld weapon she can think of. Often surly and aloof, she forges an unlikely friendship with Gilgamesh that spans centuries.

Kingo is the Eternal with the power to project cosmic energy projectiles with his hands. Over the centuries, he has become enamored with the idea of fame. In present day, he’s a famous Bollywood star who must leave his life of wealth and celebrity to help the team repel the new Deviant threat.

Her friendship with Sersi hides a world-weary sadness because she’s been treated like a child by humanity for centuries. But Sprite is much stronger and cleverer than she appears, which will come in handy as while they battle with the Deviants.

Eternals: il film avrà un forte impatto sul Marvel Cinematic Universe, dice la regista

The Eternals avrà un impatto di grande importanza in tutto il Marvel Cinematic Universe, ha affermato la regista, Chloé Zhao.

The Eternals, il nuovo film Marvel, sembra essere destinato ad avere un forte impatto su tutto il Marvel Cinematic Universe, come ha confermato anche la stessa regista responsabile della pellicola, Chloé Zhao, per l'introduzione di personaggi importanti in tutto il sistema di riferimento ed eventi di grande rilevanza.

"Penso proprio che possa essere considerato un film a sé stante, sicuramente", ha detto la regista Chloé Zhao a Total Film in un'intervista, "Ma penso anche che avrà un forte impatto sul futuro del Marvel Cinematic Universe, cosa che per quanto mi riguarda, essendo una fan, dà una grande soddisfazione", ha aggiunto.

Tuttavia, come questo impatto precisamente possa riflettersi nell'evoluzione dei film e delle serie dell'MCU non è del tutto chiaro: "i cecchini Marvel mi farebbero subito fuori se dicessi qualcosa", ha scherzato Richard Madden, ovvero Ikaris nel film, tuttavia tutti convengono sull'importanza di questo nuovo film.

Oltre agli influssi che deriveranno ai vari archi narrativi dell'MCU dalla comparsa degli Eternals in film, un altro aspetto da prendere in considerazione è la rappresentazione dei supereroi in questa pellicola, che a detta anche dei diretti interessati avrà anch'essa un peso notevole.

Secondo quanto riferito da Salma Hayek, che sarà Ajak nel film, non c'è mai stato un film sui supereroi Marvel che abbia una tale diversità di rappresentazione, in termini di origini geografiche, etniche e orientamenti sessuali e ideologici. Cosa che tra l'altro sembra essere anche uno dei motivi che ha spinto Angelina Jolie a unirsi al Marvel Cinematic Universe con questa produzione.

La data di uscita di Eternals è fissata per il 5 novembre 2021 nei cinema, a quanto pare le vicende del film avverranno in contemporanea con quelle di Spider-Man Far From Home, in qualche modo.

Dan Stevens Teases His ‘Eternals’ Role as Kro

It looks like Dan Stevens (Beauty and the Beast) will appear in Marvel Studios’ upcoming feature Eternals. The actor playfully teased his role in a recent interview. While speaking with Collider, the actor used some phrases that we can all see is a playful confirmation that he will play the film’s villainous Kro.

Kro comment [laughs]. Even if I could say anything, I wouldn’t be able to and would have to kill you on Zoom. Is that cryptic enough?

This wouldn’t be Dan Stevens first time playing a Marvel character. The actor was the lead in the FX series Legion, playing David Haller, a schizophrenic mutant with immense psychic powers. In the comics, David is the son of Charles Xavier aka Professor X. He also worked with Disney on their billion-dollar hit live-action remake Beauty and the Beast as the Beast opposite Emma Watson.[...]

Nel corso di una featurette diffusa da Fandango in concomitanza con l’apertura delle prevendite dei biglietti per il film, il presidente dei Marvel Studios e Chief Creative Officer di Marvel Entertainment Kevin Feige ha stuzzicato sull’importanza di Eternals, confermando che la pellicola ridefinirà completamente il Marvel Cinematic Universe per come lo conosciamo e ne racconterà al contempo le origini:

“Eternals esplora la creazione stessa dell’Universo Marvel in quanto tale. Gli Eterni sono questi personaggi incredibilmente potenti ma costituiscono anche una famiglia disfunzionale. La persona che li ha messi insieme è stata la vincitrice Premio Oscar Chloé Zhao. L’impatto che Eternals avrà sul Marvel Cinematic Universe non sarà altro che ridefinire interamente l’universo cinematografico.“

Il produttore Nate Moore ha aggiunto che “il film affronta direttamente le conseguenze di Avengers 4 e lo stato in cui si trova il mondo” mentre Chloé Zhao ha spiegato che il pubblico potrà “seguire l’emozionante viaggio di questi Eterni per scoprire chi siano e cosa significhi essere umani.”[...]

Eternals avrà due scene dei titoli di coda, 8 curiosità dalle visite al set

L’uscita di Eternals si avvicina e così la promozione si farà sempre più intensa: dopo le nuove locandine, oggi vi mostriamo una featurette ricca di momenti dal set, che potete ammirare qui in alto.
Fandango ha intervistato la regista Chloé Zhao di recente e ha ottenuto una conferma quasi scontata, oramai: il film avrà ben due scene dei titoli di coda, una metà e una alla fine come da tradizione:
“Sì, non restate solo per la prima, ma anche per la seconda perché sono entrambe importanti e hanno delle grosse sorprese per voi” ha commentato la regista.
Ha poi parlato dell’approccio adottato sul set per fare qualcosa di unico:
Ho adottato un approccio antropologico: a volte ho usato la camera mano, i movimenti sono molto naturali, le riprese più lunghe… abbiamo usato il grandangolo e la lunghezza focale, un po’ come già fatto con Nomadland… volevo dare agli spettatori lo spazio e il tempo di esplorare cosa c’è nell’inquadratura e quindi giungere in autonomia a delle conclusioni sul rapporto tra i personaggi e lo spazio in cui si trovano.

Visto che manca pochissimo all’uscita, ComicBook.com ha pubblicato il resoconto di una visita al set svoltasi a gennaio 2020, di cui vi proponiamo alcune curiosità
Su un Avengers 5, il produttore Nate Moore ha ammesso (ricordiamo che si trattava di inizio 2020): “Credo si possa pensare o anche no a un Avengers 5, non so se mi spiego. Credo che Avengers 4 sia stato chiamato Endgame, la fine dei giochi, per un motivo. Non abbiamo ancora parlato seriamente di come sarà un Avengers 5“;
Eternals sarà a tutti gli effetti il racconto epico di una storia d’amore: “Abbiamo girato 25 e passa film alla Marvel, ma questo è il primo film Marvel che è costruito attorno a una storia d’amore centrale. Ovviamente ci sono Tony e Pepper, Steve e Peggy, ma sono un po’ a margine. Questo, se riusciamo a farlo come si deve, è una storia d’amore epica. Non sarà mai Le pagine della nostra vita, ma quello è l’intento”;
Come nei fumetti, Thena soffre di Mahd Wy’ry: “Nel film ha una storia tragica, soffre di una malattia chiamata Mahd Wy’ry. Se siete fan dei fumetti, Mahd Wy’ry è una cosa che può soggiogare gli Eterni, è una forma di demenza. Vista la grande quantità di ricordi che hanno, restano intrappolati nella loro mente, quindi Thena inizia a dimenticare l’epoca in cui si trova. Nel corso del film, quindi, Gilgamesh diventa il suo protettore“.
Tra i dettagli scoperti dai giornalisti sul set (ma anche da chi ha osservato con attenzione il primo trailer), c’era anche lo scudo di Captain America. Sul punto di partenza della storia: “Nel presente incontriamo due degli Eterni, Sersi e Sprite, che vivono a Londra, sono sconvolte dallo scoprire la presenza di un Deviante dopo non averne visto uno da 5.000 anni, senza contare che sembra si siano evoluti. Il presente quindi pone la domanda: “Perché i Devianti sono tornati? Perché sono diversi? Riusciremo a riunire la banda in tempo per fermare la nuova minaccia?”“;
Salma Hayek sul suo personaggio: “Non voglio definirla il capo degli Eterni, ma è la loro guida. Sono l’unica che possa parlare con i Celestiali, decido io cosa dire e quando dirglielo“;
Sul personaggio di Kit Harington c’è stato molto mistero, ma sembra che in questo film non diventerà subito il Cavaliere Nero dei fumetti: “Non vedrete la Lama d’Ebano in questo film. Non diventerà necessariamente il Cavaliere Nero, ma è una cosa con cui giocheremo in futuro”.
Gli Eterni sanno bene ciò che hanno fatto gli Avengers con Thanos e il film mostrerà i motivi dietro la loro decisione di non intervenire. Come raccontato da Hayek: “Ne è rimasta molto colpita, nutre molto rispetto nei loro confronti. Anzi, quasi stenta a credere che siano riusciti nel loro intento“.

Eternals: il produttore descrive i Devianti

Sul set di Eternals, a gennaio 2020, il produttore Nate Moore ha descritto a Comicbook nello specifico i Devianti, che gli Eterni dovranno affrontare nel corso del film.
Ecco le sue parole:
Nessun Deviante assomiglia all’altro nei fumetti e anche nel nostro film. Però vedrete che questi predatori, quando uccidono un predatore nel film, prendono un po’ le sue sembianze. Perciò abbiamo i Devianti-pipistrello, i Devianti-lupo e altri Devianti che prendono la forma di creature dal mito e dalla leggenda. Gli Eterni vengono incaricati di eliminarli e aiutare così l’umanità a progredire.

Harry Styles Will Apparently Arouse Everyone as Eros in MCU’s ‘Eternals’

Styles’ appearance reportedly comes during the Eternals post-credit scene

The Monday night Los Angeles premiere of Chloe Zhou’s Eternals revealed the introduction of an unexpected actor to the Marvel Cinematic Universe: Harry Styles.
Variety film writer Matt Donnelly tweeted early Tuesday that the film includes the pop singer and actor in the role of Eros, the brother of the supervillain Thanos. The character — son of the two Eternals A’Lars and Sui-San — supposedly possesses the ability to stimulate arousal from afar, in addition to a slate of other powers.
A representative for Styles did not immediately respond to Rolling Stone‘s request for comment.

Styles’ appearance reportedly comes during the Eternals post-credit scene, which was shown during the official premiere, although not in prior screenings of the film.
Rumors of Styles’ involvement in the MCU first made the rounds around this time last year when writer Kris Tapley tweeted and subsequently deleted a comment stating that the singer’s role in Olivia Wilde’s Don’t Worry, Darling technically marks his second post-Dunkirk acting role, rather than his first, “if we’re counting the Marvel movie no one knows he’s in.”
Getting involved in a franchise as massive as the MCU would be a major move for Styles, who wrapped the filming of Michael Grandage’s upcoming film My Policeman just before kicking off on the Jenny Lewis-supported, 40-plus date Love On Tour in North America.

In the hours following the news, fans on social media have expressed annoyance at the spoiling of the post-credit scene –– something known to be a hotly anticipated element of seeing any Marvel film in theaters. The film will receive a worldwide theatrical release on November 5th.

Che bello che gli americani si dimostrino sempre più sempliciotti, e che non abbia mai creduto al loro affossamento di questo film.
Mi è piaciuto e parecchio pure! Epico, romantico, leggendario, corale, squisitamente inclusivo con attori perfetti con un loro arco completo o semicompleto, una regia solida, documentaristica e autorale, una fotografia spettacolare, location in continuo cambiamento, i combattimenti epici e dall'ampio respiro, persino thriller. Sono in fissa da ore con questo film, dà molto da pensare, molto diverso dagli altri cinecomic Marvel, molto più vicino alla serietà adulta dei film della DC e poi sono impazzito per i riferimenti storici, mitologici e lettterari con cui è farcito. Io adoro i dialoghi ma non sono spiegoni fini a se stessi; ho pensato che piacerebbe molto ai veu e a princeonfire (ma non so se sia estimatore del genere). Ragazzi, giudicate voi, spero che concordiate in buona parte con me, ve lo consiglio, il mio voto è più che buono e non vedo l'ora di rivederli sullo schermo, perchè torneranno!
