Third Smurfs Movies to be Entirely Animated

It sounds like The Smurfs will be on their own for the third movie and won't be able to rely on humans. In an article at Variety on Sony Pictures, the trade says that the studio is fast-tracking The Smurfs 3 and that it will be entirely animated, compared to its predecessors which were live-action/animated hybrids.

The first film, which was released on July 29, 2011, cost about $110 million to make and earned $563.7 million worldwide. The $105 million second installment, released on July 31, 2013, took quite a dip in earnings, making $347.5 million worldwide.

The third film is scheduled for a August 14, 2015 release.

Jack Black will star in the film based on R.L. Stine's books, while the third Smurfs film is being touted as a reimagining of the franchise.

Sony has shifted the release date of two of its upcoming family films, Goosebumps and the untitled third Smurfs film.

Goosebumps, which stars Jack Black and is based on the famed R.L. Stine children's horror books, has been moved up from March 23, 2016 to Aug. 7, 2015.
The untitled Smurfs movie, which was originally slated for Aug. 14, 2015, has been pushed a year later, to Aug. 5, 2016.

Goosebumps, which is directed by Rob Letterman from a screenplay by Darren Lemke and Mike White, stars Black as the famed writer. It turns out the monsters from his books are actually real, and he protects his readers by keeping them locked up in their books. When they escape from his books and attack an unsuspecting town, it's up to Stine and two teens to get the monsters back into their stories.
It's produced by Neal H. Moritz through his Original Film banner and Deborah Forte of Scholastic Entertainment.
The move puts Goosebumps up against Fox's Assassin's Creed.
The third Smurfs film, which is being touted as a reimagining of the franchise, is directed by Kelly Asbury and produced by Jordan Kerner, with Mary Ellen Bauder co-producing.
The third film is not a sequel or a prequel to the first two live-action/CG hybrid films, which grossed a combined $910 million worldwide.
The Smurfs film has the Aug. 5, 2016 date to itself for now.

Allora, riassumendo, la Sony sta sviluppando un terzo film sui Puffi, sarà completamente animato, e uscirà nel 2016, non nel 2015 come inizialmente previsto.

Detto questo, a Annecy ho avuto modo di seguire un making of del film dove il boss della Sony Animation e il regista Kelly Asbury (Shrek 2, Gnomeo e Giulietta) hanno presentato succose anteprime... che hanno stupito e esaltato tutti quanti.
Sembra che finalmente avremmo un film dei Puffi decente!!

Si perché l'idea alla base è quella di fare un film quanto più possibile fedele, per storia, tono e design, ai fumetti originali di Peyo. Ecco quindi un completo restyle di tutti i protagonisti... e funziona ALLA GRANDE!!

Hanno mostrato proprio il paragone tra i vecchi, brutti e poco accattivanti Puffi dei primi due film con quelli nuovi, più rotondi e 2D del terzo film. Bellissimi, davvero molto fedeli ai puffi che conosciamo in ogni dettaglio.
Hanno presentato un brevissimo trailer in cui i personaggi si presentano davanti alla telecamera per un ipotetico casting del nuovo film, con tanto di gag con Vanitoso che si ritrova la vecchia versione (quella dei primi due film) di sé, e alla quale viene detto che è stata scartata perché non adatta (con tanto di infarto e svenimento per il poverino).

Hanno poi mostrato un sacco di ricerche grafiche di funghi, foglie, alberi.. insomma tutto per assicurare al film un look eccellente... e funziona, funziona !!! Gargamella anche sarà ovviamente in CGI ma è praticamente identico alla versione dei fumetti. Hanno mostrato un piccolo test con lui.

Il film sarà interamente ambientato nel mondo dei Puffi (non il nostro) e la città dei personaggi umanoidi (Gargamella etc..) è modellata su Bruges.. La storia andrà un po' a indagare l'origine dei puffi e la magia avrà un ruolo importante.
Re-cast completo per tutte le voci.

Hanno un design simile ai puffi dei due corti Christmas Carol e Puffihollow, sebbene quelli fossero assolutamente in 2D ?

I Puffi 3: Mandy Patinkin sarà la voce di Grande Puffo

The Hollywood Reporter rivela che l'attore Mandy Patinkin, noto per aver recitato nella serie Homeland, presterà la voce a Grande Puffo nella nuova avventura ancora senza titolo del film dedicato ai Puffi. Stando al sito, l'attore dovrebbe essere in trattative finali per aggiudicarsi la parte.
