Idina Menzel in Talks for Sony's Cinderella Re-Imagining

After entering talks with Pose‘s Billy Porter to star as the fairy godmother, Sony’s upcoming re-imagining of the classic Cinderella tale has also entered talks with Frozen star Idina Menzel to star in the film as the evil stepmother, according to Entertainment Weekly.

The project is said to be a modern re-imagining of the classic fairytale of the orphaned girl (Camila Cabello) with an evil step-mother featuring a musical bent. Kay Cannon, who wrote the Pitch Perfect comedies, earned three Emmy nominations for NBC’s 30 Rock and directed last year’s comedy Blockers, will direct.

The idea for the project stems from an original pitch from late-night talk show host James Corden, who will produce alongside his Fulwell 73 partner Leo Pearlman. The studio is putting the Cinderella film on the fast-track for production. The Cinderella project will serve as Cabello’s feature acting debut, and she will also be involved in the music for the movie.

Menzel is best known for her work on Broadway with the acclaimed musical Rent and its film adaptation, as well as the Disney live-action/animated hit musical Enchanted and the acclaimed Disney family fantasy musical Frozen, and is set to reprise her lead role in the upcoming sequel, which is set to hit theaters on November 22, as well as appearing in the upcoming crime comedy-thriller Uncut Gems alongside Adam Sandler, which will debut on the big screen on December 13.

Trovato il principe.

Da Deadline

Camila Cabello ‘Cinderella’ Finds Its Prince In UK Actor Nicholas Galitzine

EXCLUSIVE: Word is getting around that British actor Nicholas Galitzine has won the role of Prince Robert in Sony’s upcoming Camila Cabello musical Cinderella.

After a long search, Galitzine, I hear, wowed the filmmakers in many chemistry readings. In addition to Cabello, the actor joins Idina Menzel (who plays Evelyn, the evil stepmother) and Billy Porter (as the fairy godmother) in the Kay Cannon-directed and scripted feature. James Corden produces and has a story by credit. A production start is scheduled for February for a Feb. 5, 2021 release.

Galitzine’s first big film break came at the age of 20 about five years ago when he scored a role opposite Luke Perry in John Williams’ The Beat Beneath My Feet which played the Berlinale in 2015. In that movie Galitzine played Tom, a teenage loner who discovers his rock god neighbor has faked his death over tax fraud and blackmails him into becoming his guitar teacher. Galitzine studied acting at Dulwich College. He was reportedly snapped up by UK agents Curtis Brown after they caught him in an Edinburgh Festival production of Spring Awakening.

Galitzine also stars opposite Uma Thurman in the Netflix series Chambers and can be seen in Sony/Blumhouse’s upcoming reboot of horror pic The Craft. He also headlined in Pippa Bianco’s feature film Share, which made its world premiere at Sundance earlier this year in the US Dramatic Competition category. Other credits include Handsome Devil, and the Melissa Joan Hart directed Lifetime movie The Watcher in the Woods opposite Anjelica Huston.

Galitzine is repped by WME, Anonymous Content, Curtis Brown Group and Gang, Tyre, Ramer, Brown & Passman.

Sony’s Cinderella Film & For All Mankind Season 2 Resume Filming
