Marvel Studios May Be Considering Adapting THE ULTIMATES For Future Multiverse-Set Adventures

No, not those Ultimates! According to a new report, Marvel Studios may be considering a big screen version of the team led by Captain Marvel and Black Panther as they explore the Multiverse. Check it out!

According to a new rumour, Marvel Studios is considering developing a number of movies and TV shows based in alternate timelines (a.k.a. the Marvel Multiverse) and that may even lead to a big screen adaptation of The Ultimates. However, that's not a reference to the Mark Miller version of the team; instead, it's the newer iteration seen in the regular Marvel Universe in recent years.

Led by Captain Marvel and Black Panther, the group consists of heroes like Spectrum, Blue Marvel, and Miss America and their adventures tend to revolve around protecting the wider Marvel Universe/Multiverse. There's obviously a lot of potential here and this could very well be the next iteration of The Avengers we see on the big screen.

Throw in the fact that it's hard to imagine a big bad any bigger than Thanos (and Earth being under the protection of the X-Men and Fantastic Four) and a post-Avengers: Endgame team that heads into the cosmos to tackle bigger threats would definitely be fun to see. TV shows and movies set in alternate realities would also be an unexpected way to continue expanding the MCU.

This is just a rumour for now and if Mysterio is just trolling the wall-crawler in Spider-Man: Far From Home, it could quickly be debunked. Don't forget that we've previously heard rumblings about Dark Avengers and Young Avengers movies as well!

The Living Tribunal Nearly Made An Appearance

We're going to kick off by looking back at a major alteration made to Avengers: Infinity War which would have surely had major ramifications for the sequel. According to the movie's writers, they wanted to include the Living Tribunal, a cosmic character who serves as the Judge of the Marvel Multiverse and the arbitrator of cosmic justice.

"We did try to put the Living Tribunal in the first movie," Markus confirmed when asked if there were any characters they weren't able to include across the two movies. "We wrote a scene in which he appeared during the Titan fight. And everyone was like, what?"

"Whoa," McFeely adds. "He’s got three heads. It would indicate a whole different level of architecture to the universe and I think that was too much to just throw in." It's easy to see where he's coming from but Markus was quick to say that, "The idea’s still in [Marvel Studios President] Kevin [Feige]’s court."

Marvel Studios Considering Tackling ‘The Ultimates’ and Alternative Timelines For TV/Film In The Future

HN Entertainment has learned that Marvel Studios is considering developing potential film/television projects focused on alternative timelines (Multiverse?) and even the superhero team The Ultimates.

While the Marvel Cinematic Universe is directly influenced by Mark Millar’s Ultimates run, there is also an established team called The Ultimates that deals with threats to Earth and the larger universe, who eventually become the new heralds of Galactus (now the Lifebringer of Worlds).

A good chunk of The Ultimates team has already been established in the MCU such as Carol Danvers (Brie Larson) and T’Challa (Chadwick Boseman) along with future superhero Monica Rambeau aka Spectrum (Akira Akbar), who was introduced as a young girl in Captain Marvel. Other members not already in the MCU include America Chavez aka Miss America (lesbian Latinx character) and Adam Bernard Brashear aka Blue Marvel.

What the MCU version of The Ultimates team looks like remains to be seen, but there is certainly a lot of room for a diverse lineup. I personally could see other established characters like Valkyrie and Sam Wilson join the ranks if need be as well.

Given the massive global box office success of both Black Panther ($1.346 billion) and Captain Marvel ($1.126 billion) pairing the two up in their own splinter superhero team film would be smart with their popularity at the moment.

This is only early chatter for the moment. However, The Ultimates along with Young Avengers (Easter Eggs planted in Avengers: Endgame and a Hawkeye Disney+ series) would certainly make sense given that the primary members of The Avengers are kind of done for the moment after the events of Avengers: Endgame.

Marvel’s Kevin Feige is expected to announce Phase 4 plans this summer possibly at San Diego Comic-Con 2019 in July or D23 Expo 2019 in August, it seems a little premature to expect The Ultimates would be announced this early.
