Exclusive: When Might We See Edgar Wright's Ant-Man?
Source: Edward Douglas
April 24, 2010

Earlier today, ComingSoon.net/SuperHeroHype had a chance to talk to Marvel Studios President of Production Kevin Feige about the upcoming release of Iron Man 2 on May 7 and other things related to what's been dubbed the "Marvel Cinematic Universe." It was a really good interview that we want to keep fairly intact to run next week, but we have a few things to share as a tease for it.

We were particularly curious about the status of Edgar Wright's Ant-Man. Some may remember that Wright was announced to direct that movie way back in 2006, and he was present at that year's Comic-Con at the same time as Jon Favreau and Louis Letterier were just getting going on the first Iron Man and The Incredible Hulk. Four years later, and Marvel's four-year plan seems to be on track, but there's been no confirmation that Ant-Man would be Wright's next priority after finishing up Scott Pilgrim vs. the World, so that was one thing we wanted to ask Marvel Studios' top man about.

He told us, "Edgar was in L.A. last week, we sat down, and we started working on a calendar of when to get him back into it once he finishes promoting 'Scott Pilgrim,' so I think towards the end of this year, early next year we'd start looking at early prep for that, but certainly for a release date after 'The Avengers.'"

Also we wanted to quickly ask Feige about the rumors on CHUD earlier this week, reported here, about Marvel Studios looking to make lower-budget movies based on some of the other Marvel characters not currently under license to other studios. Feige kept things close to chest and wouldn't outright confirm or deny, although it certainly seems like a viable option:

"I saw that story the other day, and I was pleased with it," he replied. "It is something that we're looking at the ongoing cinematic universe and where to go after 'Avengers,' which we look at as a beginning and not an ending. Listen, the truth is that there are thousands and thousands of characters. Can they all be movies? No, but when you go and look again at the first two movies that started this new model era. The first one was 'Blade,' which no one knew was a Marvel character and never had his own title, was just an interesting character in 'Tomb of Dracula.' And then there was 'X-Men' which was the top-selling comic at the time for many, many years, and that was done well. So certainly we're making a conscious effort of looking at the characters, whether they have marquee value or not, are just interesting stories and can continue to define, which is what I've been trying to do, almost coming up on ten years at Marvel, to continue to push the boundaries of what a comic book movie is and a definition of a comic book movie. "

Look for our full interview with Feige sometime next week, in which he talks about the potential for Marvel movies in 3D and some of those Marvel characters currently under option at the other studios.

News:

Da Badtaste:

Edgar Wright chiarisce su Ant-Man nei Vendicatori

Ant-Man è nell'originale...

Ecco l'articolo in inglese:

RUMOR: Alan Tudyk To Play Ant-Man?

An anonymous scooper has given me word that Alan Tudyk of Firefly is locked in to play the role of Ant-Man in a solo film and a cameo in The Avengers, as well as some interesting stuff about heroes The Wasp and Wonder Man...
NOTE: I am not in anyway reporting this as fact. I thought I would share this email that I have been pushing back posting for close to a month just to see what your opinions were on the possibility of these casting choices.

About two weeks back I received an email from an anonymous scooper going by the name of Mister Orange(Reservoir Dogs?) claiming to be close to the production of Edgar Wright's adaption of the comic character Ant-Man. In another email unfortunately and accidentally deleted by me, Mister Orange goes on to say he is concept artist on the film and did not answer any more of my questions do to fear of saying too much.

"Hi Mister Orange here, I am close to the production of director Edgar Wright's Ant-Man movie. Now as you may have heard it was jokingly reported by The Avengers director Joss Whedon that star of his show Firefly, Actor Nathan Fillion would be Ant-Man. But I have news on the contrary, In fact another Firefly star Alan Tudyk is not only locked in for a solo film for the character, but will briefly appear in The Avengers as the character's scientist counter part Hank Pym Along with wife and fellow super hero Janet Van Dyne(both whose transformation into Ant-Man and Wasp will be shown as the after the credits scene in The Avengers). Both characters will be in the process of creating Ultron(who is set up for the villein role in the solo film). The solo film will start filming directly after The Avengers with a cameo from Wonder Man, A role that is actually being largely considered for Fillion."

Now again I will stress that I am not reporting this as fact as much as I would love it to be. The reason I actually took the leap of faith and posted this was due to the fact that it very well could be possible. Aside from the fact that this just an email with no proof to back it up it still very much falls into the realm of reality. The Avengers will hit theaters with or without Ant-Man or Tudyk May 4, 2012. The solo film Ant-Man has no release or an official start date. Confirm, debunk, or comment below.

Edgar Wright aggiorna su Ant-Man PDF | Stampa | E-mail

ant man

Captain America: The First Avenger, diretto da Joe Johnston, uscirà il 27 luglio in Italia.

I Vendicatori uscirà il 4 maggio 2012.

Da Badtaste:

Ant-Man: aggiornamenti da Edgar Wright

RUMOR: Benedict Cumberbatch Up For A Role In A Marvel Studios Movie?

The latest rumor to hit is that Sherlock star Benedict Cumberbatch is being considered by Marvel Studios for a role in an upcoming movie! Ant-Man? Doctor Strange? Hit the jump for more...

While their following on Facebook is still quite small, the guys over at Marvel Cinematic Universe seem very up to date on all things Marvel Studios related, so it's not a stretch to believe they may indeed have heard something. However, that's all been news aggregated from other sources, so there's also NOTHING which leads us to believe the following is anywhere near 100% reliable. As with any rumor, it's best to take it with a huge pinch of salt...

Insider news: Benedict Cumberbatch of the BBC's "Sherlock" is being looked for an unknown role in a future Marvel Studios film.

With filming currently well underway, it's highly unlikely that this has anything to do with The Avengers, so could Marvel Studios be looking at Cumberbatch for a character like Doctor Strange or Ant-Man? With the success of Sherlock and the recent news that the actor had joined the cast of The Hobbit, it wouldn't be a huge shock for them to give him a leading role! Be sure to share your thoughts in the usual place!

News da ComicBookMovie:

RUMOR: Bradley Cooper, Joel Edgerton, Lee Pace and Two Others Considered for a MARVEL Role

The Marvel Cinematic Universe Facebook Page is reporting that an inside source has tipped them off on five actors that are up for a part in a Marvel Studios movie. The two other actors on the list are Eddie Redmayne and Joel Kinnaman.

I'm gonna speculate on that rumor and assume that the part they are most likely up for would be Hank Pym, or better known to most as Ant-Man. We know that Edgar Wright has just handed in the final script for the movie, and all these actors share the same fair hair qualities. Can't be Daredevil, because the insider said it was Marvel and not FOX doing the considering. It most likely isn't for Dr. Strange, because once again all five don't share a resemblance to Sorcerer Supreme.

Bradley Cooper who just exited The Crow and was the runner-up to Ryan Reynolds for Green Lantern certainly has interest in making a CBM. Good solid actor, but with Paradise Lost beginning filming soon, will he have enough time to do another big movie?

Joel Edgerton is an interesting name. Currently early word on his new movie with Tom Hardy Warrior is very good. Early buzz is saying this might be a breakout performance for him.

Lee Pace who is best known as the star of the canceled but wonderful, Pushing Daisies has the look of Pym in my opinion and the acting chops to pull off any number of roles.

The other two actors I'm not that familiar with and I'd assume they are on the bottom rung. Eddie Redmayne is my least favorite on the list, his performance as Matt Damon's son in The Good Shepherd was jarringly bad.

While Joel Kinnaman was in AMC's tv show, The Killing. He should be familiar to many Marvel fans, because he was also on the short list for Thor.

Nothing to solid, but Attack The Block director and co-writer of the Ant-Man script certainly hints that at least one draft had more than one incarnation of the character..

While speaking to The Playlist about turning down an offer to direct Die Hard 5 (now titled A Good Day To Die Hard) the writer/director confirms that he and Ant-Man director Edgar Wright have turned in their final draft for that movie to Marvel and that he is very proud of it. But it seems that nothing is set in stone. Cornish says it's in Marvel's hands now. But intriguingly he also responds to a prompt from The Playlist that the script could possibly feature not only Hank Pym, but some other "Ant-Men"..

As for whether or not the movie itself is moving forward remains up in the air. “I don’t know, man. I’d love for it to happen but it’s really up to Edgar and Marvel,” Cornish said. We had heard that at one point Cornish and Wright were going to put several of the Ant-Men (meaning people that had put on superhero scientist Hank Pym’s suit) into the script, meaning that they could have thrown in our personal favorite Ant-Man – Eric O’Grady, low-level S.H.I.E.L.D. Agent turned shadily “Irredeemable” Ant Man.

Cornish smiled at our implication and said, slyly, “No comment.” He then started to say something, “Well, you know…” before shutting himself off with another “No comment.”

Take from that what you will, I know I have! So if and when the movie does go into production and does end up with more than one Ant-Man, how would you guys feel about it?
