Dal sito Hollywood Reporter:

Jared Leto Circling 'Tron' Reboot at Disney (Exclusive)

After canceling a third installment in the sci-fi franchise in 2015, Disney is exploring the idea of a movie that would act as a Leto vehicle.

Disney is planning to get back on the grid.

The studio is in the very early stages of development for a new Tron movie, with Oscar-winning actor Jared Leto circling to star, sources tell The Hollywood Reporter.

No writer has been hired at this exploratory stage, and no filmmaker is involved. Justin Springer, who co-produced Tron: Legacy and executive produced the Tom Cruise sci-fi movie Oblivion, will produce. Leto and his producing partner, Emma Ludbrook, would also be involved in some producing capacity if the project moves forward.

Tron was a 1982 Disney movie set in the fantastic world inside a computer program, a cyberspace called the Grid. Starring Jeff Bridges and Bruce Boxleitner, the film wasn’t a hit at the time but was influential with its envelope-pushing special effects. It drew a cult following in the years after its release, due to its imaginative story.

In 2010, Disney revisited the world with Tron: Legacy, which starred Garrett Hedlund and Olivia Wilde and brought back Bridges. Joseph Kosinski directed. The expensive movie made $400 million worldwide — good enough to warrant interest in a follow-up.

But it’s been a series of shutdowns and restarts for that sequel, and just as it seemed it was heading toward preproduction, the studio pulled the plug for good in 2015.

But computer programs never die, it seems, they just get upgrades.

Sources say this new project is not a direct sequel and is being built out of the source code of the deleted Tron 3 script. Leto would play a character named Ares, who has not appeared onscreen before but was a key player in that script.

At this stage, it's too early to tell if Kosinski or actors from Tron: Legacy will return.

Leto last portrayed the DC Comics villain the Joker in 2016’s Suicide Squad. He will next appear with Ryan Gosling and Harrison Ford in Denis Villeneuve’s Blade Runner 2049 and is attached to direct Paramount's crime thriller 77.

Dal sito The Disinsider:

‘Tron 3’ Adds ‘Dune’ Production Designer Patrice Vermette

Disney is moving forward on their third entry in Tron franchise tentatively titled Tron: Ares. While filming is expected to start until next summer, the studio is already putting together an amazing team to once again bring the world of Tron back to life.

Production Patrice Vermette has been tasked with that job. Vermette, who’s work will next been seen in Warner Bros’ highly-anticipated sci-fi epic Dune. The beauty we have already seen in the images and trailers for Dune means we can expect the same quality for Tron, which is known for its vibrant color aesthetic of Blues and Oranges.

Garth Davis (Lion) is set to direct with Jared Leto (Zack Snyder’s Justice Legue) on board to star. Last we heard on the project was that Disney was looking for a young Asian actress to co-star, the name we had heard thrown around was Mulan herself, Liu Yifei, as of now, it is unknown if things have changed since. Jesse Wigutow (It Runs in the Family) has written the most recent draft of the script.

While the original 1982 version of the film, starring Jeff Bridges, was met with a cult following, it’s 2010 sequel was met with mixed reviews. Despite bringing back Bridges, Tron: Legacy didn’t seem to resonate with critics, many stating the film and its characters lacked emotion and substance. However, the film was financially profitable for Disney, and it too has gained its own following, and fans have been clamoring for another film, and don’t worry… you’ll get one.

It is unclear if Jeff Bridges, Garett Hedlund, and/or Olivia Wilde or any other characters from Tron Legacy will return for the newest Tron film. Check back for more updates on this project as we get them.

Il film è in lavorazione e pare che Liu Yfei (che abbiamo visto come Mulan nel live action) sia stata considerata per una parte nella pellicola:

Dal sito The Disinsider:

Signs Point to TRON 3 Gearing up For Production Early in 2022! #FlynnLives?

News on “Tron 3,” tentatively entitled TRON: Ares, has been quiet as of late; however, The DisInsider gathered some information that leads us to believe that the film could be gearing up to start production in early 2022.

The original TRON film and its sequel, TRON: Legacy, used Flynn’s Arcade (with the iconic neon sign in Culver City, California, known as “The Hull Building”) as its backdrop. After filming on the sequel, most recently, the building housed a garage door company called A1 Garage Doors & Gates.

Well, thanks to recent photos we’ve obtained, the Flynn’s Arcade awning and facade have returned. Now, with a new, modern look.

While we can’t yet point to an official production start, the new look of Flynn’s Arcade is a sign that work on the film could start sooner rather than later.

Meanwhile, there’ve been ongoing whispers that a TRON Disney+ series is in the works.

While we’ve heard the same, from what The DisInsider’s been told, at this point, TRON: Ares is an entirely different project and is far ahead in development.

"Walt Disney Archives @TWDCArchives:

Today is the anniversary of the classic sci-fi film, “Tron” (1982)! Pictured here is one of the costumes from our collection for the title character, played by Bruce Boxleitner. To learn more about this costume, check out episode 2 of “Prop Culture” streaming now on #DisneyPlus! https://t.co/17xIpAGMyT"

Moreover, Garth Davis (Lion) is set to direct with Jared Leto (Zack Snyder’s Justice League) on board to star.

Last we heard on the project was that Disney was looking for a young Asian actress to co-star; the name we had heard thrown around was Mulan herself, Liu Yifei. As of this post, it is unknown if things have changed.

Jesse Wigutow (It Runs in the Family) has written the most recent script draft.

The original 1982 version of the film, starring Jeff Bridges, eventually earned a cult following; it was not a box office smash. Its 2010 sequel was similarly met with mixed reception (and reviews).

Despite bringing back Bridges, TRON: Legacy didn’t seem to resonate with critics, many stating the film and its characters lacked emotion and substance. However, the film was financially profitable for Disney, and, like its progenitor, it too has gained its own following.

Moreover, along a different path, the animated series TRON: Uprising, starring Elijah Wood as the voice of Beck, Tron’s protege (with Bruce Boxleitner reprising his titular role from the original film) also boasts a following. Of course, there’s also a roller coaster named “TRON Lightcycle Power Run” coming to Disney World soon (?).

Using the hashtag #FlynnLives, fans have been clamoring for another film. We’re here to tell you, “Don’t worry, programs… you’ll get one.”

Finally, it is unclear if Jeff Bridges, Garett Hedlund, or Olivia Wilde (or any other characters from TRON Legacy ) will return for the upcoming Tron film.

Dal sito The Disinsider:

Jared Leto Says A ‘Tron 3’ Update Is Coming

It feels like just yesterday that Jared Leto announced his involvement in the highly anticipated Tron sequel. Then again, it also feels like yesterday since the first trailer of Morbius dropped. Now, just as the latest entry in Sony’s Spider-Verse is finally gearing up to hit theaters, Leto has just offered a small, yet promising update on the (seemingly) still-planned project.

Speaking with Screen Rant recently, on the topic of the third film, the Academy Award-winner said:

“We are working hard on Tron with our incredible partners at Disney. Just an amazing group of creative people. We’re getting closer. We’re getting closer and closer, and who knows? Something may be [coming] sooner than later.“

While this vague news about potential news about the project isn’t the most exciting, it proves that Disney still wants to move forward with it. Considering how big of a gap there is between the first and second film, waiting a few more years certainly won’t hurt the hype.

The last we heard anything about the film was that Dune‘s production designer, Patrice Vermette, had joined it. Garth Davis (Lion) is still attached to direct.

However, the film was financially profitable for Disney, and it too has gained its own following.

It is unclear if Jeff Bridges, Garett Hedlund, and/or Olivia Wilde or any other characters from Tron Legacy will return for the newest Tron film.

Check back for more updates on this project as we get them.
