Set to be released in Summer of 2011, directed by Gary Rydstrom, who is famous for working sound design for Cameron, Lucas and Spielberg as well as directing the great Pixar short LIFTED.

Rydstrom came out wheeling a complicated 9 part Newt mating ritual chart, like you’d find in a science lab or biology class.

Rydstrom says the film is about the last two blue footed newts on this earth, a male and a female, who are thrown together by science and can’t stand each other.

Newt, our lead, has been in captivity since he was a tadpole. He’s lonely. His only friend is a lifeless sock puppet. He can see the mating ritual chart from his cage and practices day in and day out, getting ready for scientists to capture him a girlfriend. “And who can’t relate to that?” asks Rydstrom.

Unfortunately, the 9th and final step is obscured by a Mr. Coffee, so he doesn’t know how the ritual ends. “It’s the way of life. You wanna know step 9 and there’s a Mr. Coffee in front of it.”

Brook is the name of the last female Blue-Footed Newt. She is in the wild and has no idea she’s the last female of her species. She escapes all sorts of dangers in her day to day life, including being evasive of these crazy biologists who are always chasing her. Rydstrom describes her evasive capabilities as making her an “amphibious Errol Flynn.”

One day they catch her and bring her back to the lab and present her to Newt. They have “the world’s worst first date” before through circumstance they both end up in the wild. Newt is worthless out here, but Brook gets him through the trials.

They meet a character named Eddie, a giant Hellbender Salamander, who is a ladies man and passes along his incredibly shallow ideas of love to Newt. Of course, they predictably don’t work.

“Newt is a movie about how finding a mate never goes as you expect even, make that especially, if you only have one choice.”

Looked cute enough, but I didn’t really see enough to really feel strongly one way or the other. I loved what Rydstrom did with LIFTED, so I’m game to see him take on this project.

Come noi sospettavamo è stato Newt ad essere spostato all'estate 2012!!

Yesterday when we told you that Cars 2 had been moved forward to the Summer 2011, we forgot to tell you that Pixar’s Newt would be getting the old Cars 2 release date of Summer 2012. It wasn’t made clear why the change was made, but I’m assuming that newt probably required more development time, while all the characters of Cars have already been designed, cutting down the traditional pre-production timeline.

Volete vedere che alla Dreamworks stanno già facendo un film che ha come protagonista una lucertola e uscirà qualche mese prima di newt? Me lo sento..ma spero con tutto il cuore di sbagliarmi.. Sennò è la volta buona che si prendano una denuncia per plagio!

It’s no secret that we love Pixar. But who doesn’t? Watching one of their films is like taking a deep dive into absolute cuteness and a refreshing shower of good taste. For that very same reason, we like to label Rare as a pixaresque studio among game developers. People may agree or disagree with that definition at different levels, but there is a clear feel of refinement and artistry in the craftsmanship and aesthetic choices of both companies. So would it be that surprising to learn that the elusive sunbeam of inspiration struck Pixar artists while playing a Rare game on their Xbox 360?

Alright, this could be pure speculation from now on but it’s also fun to mention. Back in April this year, Disney Pictures announced like a zillion movies coming from all their divisions during the next four years. The already released and unbelievably moving Wall·E, this month’s Bolt or their promising, new traditionally animated film The Princess and the Frog. Pixar in particular revealed a whole bunch of projects that almost nobody ever heard about before that date. The last of them, currently scheduled for a 2012 release, was called Newt.

Some of you may have instantly thought of Viva Piñata’s utterly beautiful newtgats after reading that. So did we. But there already were newts in the world before Rare decided to include them in one of their games. However, the distance between Rare’s and Pixar’s newts narrows if we know that both are meant to perpetuate their breed. In the movie, the main characters will be the last remaining male and female newts on the planet, both forced together by science to save the species from extinction. Sadly, they can’t stand each other. Which turns the task of matching them into one hell of a nightmare.

Sounds familiar? Then you will be pleased to know that the very first picture related to this movie that has surfaced on the Internet shows the romance dance of Pixar’s newts. Now that’s a funny coincidence.

But if it's not, then "Newt" will appear less than a half year from Bear so it will provide a test as well. This one could really be the first one, since the material it's dealing with isn't something that Disney is used to selling, like a princess. But I've seen Gary Rydstrom's "Lifted" and it's very good, very clever. And like the rest, there's a long time between now and our first introduction to the little salamander/newt/amphibian(?) creature. If the pundits got worried with an old man in "Up," imagine how they'll feel about this character.

So the nearest we'll come to seeing a failure is over two years from now. But if "Newt" or "The Bear and the Bow" aren't going to be a mistake or stumble, what about 2013? That's the next time we'll see the next Pixar film. Will it be a disappointment? Will it crash and burn at the box office? I can't say for sure, but the last time I saw Sully and Mike they did pretty well, didn't they?

Quality is a great business plan...

mmmh posso capirlo.. a me non ha mai intrigato.. comunque mi dispiace, chissà se ne usciva fuori qualcosa di carino! spero sia sostituito con qualcosa di veramente interessante^^ spero non Monster 2, 3 sequel in 3 anni mi sembrerebbe eccessivo..!
