Ennesimo remake, stavolta anni 80:

Walt Disney Pictures is developing a remake of the sci-fi adventure movie Flight of the Navigator, says The Hollywood Reporter.

Brad Copeland is writing the redo, which is being produced by Mandeville partners David Hoberman and Todd Lieberman.

The 1986 original told the story of a 12-year-old boy who is abducted by an alien spacecraft in 1978 and reappears eight years later, still the same age and with no memory of what happened. NASA scientists discover a connection between the boy and a downed spacecraft and try to exploit the boy, who ultimately escapes with the ship and attempts to reunite with his family.

The movie grossed only $17 million when it was released but was later rediscovered on VHS, becoming a cult hit.

Fantasy?
Il film non lo conosco, ma mi pare di capire che sia fantascienza, alla WitchMountain insomma... o addirittura alla "Gli occhi del parco". A proposito, piccolo OT, ho recuperato "Gli occhi del parco" e l'ho trovato MERAVIGLIOSO!!!!Lo consiglio a tutt: una grande Bette Davis, ed una storia davvero intrigante con spruzzatine horror e tanta suspance, cosa che mai e poi mai avrei creduto di trovare in un film Disney. Sono sicuro che se lo avessi visto da ragazzino mi sarei impaurito e non poco!

Hey, remember when we were getting all silly over the idea of Colin Trevorrow (Safety Not Guaranteed) directing Star Wars Episode VII? Well, it turns out that he’ll be writing and possibly directing Disney’s Flight of the Navigator reboot instead. Way back in 2009 when we reported of Disney’s plans for the remake, Brad Copeland (Wild Hogs) had been hired to pen the first draft. Now, Trevorrow will do a rewrite along with his Safety Not Guaranteed writer, Derek Connolly. Hit the jump for more on the project, including a comment from Connolly and another mysterious project the duo have in development at Disney.

Variety reported that Trevorrow and Connolly will team for a rewrite on Flight of the Navigator with the reboot being a possible directing vehicle for Trevorrow. Though Trevorrow was understandably excited about the possibility of taking on this property, Connolly was quick to comment on the duo’s balanced writing approach:

“‘Flight of the Navigator’ wasn’t a seminal movie of my childhood but I remember liking it and the original meant a lot to Colin as a kid, so it’s really his baby. It’ll be good to have some balance so it’s not two fanboys writing the movie.”

Trevorrow and Connolly have also sold another pitch to Disney, the logline of which is being kept quiet. Trevorrow is also attached to direct that picture.

The 1986 original Flight of the Navigator featured a 12-year-old boy who disappears for eight years, but returns without having aged a day; at the same time as the boy’s reappearance, a spacecraft crashes and is seized by NASA. The film was directed by Randal Kleiser and starred Joey Cramer, Veronica Cartwright and Sarah Jessica Parker, with Paul Reubens as the voice of the ship’s pilot.

Dopo l'annuncio dell'acquisizione della Lucasfilm da parte della Disney e dell'arrivo di una nuova Trilogia, Colin Trevorrow, regista e co-sceneggiatore di Safety Not Guaranteed si è ritrovato nel bel mezzo del maelström dei rumor dell'Episodio 7.

La causa? Trevorrow aveva commesso l'errore di dichiarare pubblicamente che si sarebbe occupato, per conto della Disney, di un nuovo progetto collegato a "qualcosa" con un'agguerrita schiera di fan. Facile, dunque, unire i puntini.

Con una provvidenziale twittata, il filmmaker aveva poi puntualizzato che il suo approdo a Star Wars si trattava di un'eventualità remota:

Variety, ora, chiarisce e svela il mistero. Trevorrow e il co-sceneggiatore di Safety Not Guaranteed Derek Connolly, si occuperanno del remake di Navigator (Flight of the Navigator), pellicola diretta da Randal Kleiser uscita nei cinema nel 1986, vero e proprio classico della cinematografia del decennio. Come scrive wikipedia nel film:

Un ragazzino viene rapito a scopo di analisi scientifiche da un'astronave extraterrestre, portato sul pianeta Phaelon e riportato sulla Terra, il tutto nel giro di 4,4 ore. Tuttavia, per effetto del cosiddetto paradosso dei gemelli (una delle implicazioni della teoria della relatività di Albert Einstein), il ragazzino manca dalla Terra per ben 8 anni.

Di questo progetto si parla già da un paio di anni e, infatti, nel 2009 Brad Copeland, sceneggiatore di Svalvolati on the Road (Wild Hogs) aveva ricevuto il compito di realizzarne lo script. A produrre la pellicola saranno David Hoberman e Todd Lieberman e, molto probabilmente, Colin Trevorrow si occuperà tanto della riscrittura della sceneggiatura che della regia della pellicola.
