Disney is trying to fit the glass slipper on Mark Romanek. The studio is circling Romanek, the accomplished video director and helmer of the features Never Let Me Go and One Hour Photo, to steer a new version of Cinderella, based on the pitch that The Devil Wears Prada scribe Aline Brosh McKenna sold to Disney last year in a seven-figure deal.

The studio bought that project after its billion-dollar grossing 3D Alice in Wonderland opened the floodgates on movies based on public domain fairy tales. Simon Kinberg is producing, and insiders describe Brosh McKenna's script as the re-imaging of the classic tale where the prince is set for a politically arranged marriage, until the evil plan is threatened when the prince meets Cinderella. No deal yet, but it’s moving toward one and the picture is a priority for the studio.

di Romanek posso dire che ha un'eleganza nei suoi film, forse un pò algida e fredda, ma certamente sofisticata, che darebbe a Cenerentola un fascino davvero singolare...semmai dovessero ingaggiarlo sarei felice.

Noi proprio non lo conosciamo... cercando abbiamo visto che è regista di diversi videoclip... ma non riusciamo a farcene un'idea precisa... comunque noi vogliamo che sia sofisticato e ricco come film... un po' rococò diciamo... e con rococò intendiamo dire non per forza ambientato nel 1700 ma intendiamo un ambiente sontuoso, opulento con grandi palazzi e case ricche... insomma, un ambiente da favola!

Chris Weitz is in negotiations to rewrite Cinderella, Disney’s live action take on the classic fairy tale that has Mark Romanek (Never Let Me Go) attached to direct. Simon Kinberg is producing.


The Cinderella project was first set up at Disney in May 2010 in the wake of the studio’s success with Alice in Wonderland, the live-action adaptation of the Lewis C. Carroll book that starred Johnny Depp. Devil Wear Prada scribe Aline Brosh McKenna was behind the pitch and wrote the initial draft.

Romanek came on board in August 2011. No stars currently are attached.

The take and the storyline of the re-imagining are being kept under wraps but Weitz has proven himself adept at writing and directing a range of material, from character-based comedies to fantasies to dramas.

Weitz shared on Oscar nomination with his brother Paul Weitz and Peter Hedges for adapting About a Boy, the coming-of-age dramedy that starred Hugh Grant. He also wrote and directed The Golden Compass, the big-budget adaptation of the first of Philip Pullman’s fantasy book series. He helmed the second installment of the Twilight series, New Moon, and last directed A Better Life, 2011's immigrant drama for which Demian Bichir snagged a best actor nomination.

Weitz is repped by WME and Morris Yorn Barnes.

Grazie Alessio per la news, ci hai battuto sul tempo... siamo contenti che il progetto prosegua... speriamo che venga fatto bene... secondo noi questo film può avere molte potenzialità... speriamo che curino bene la sceneggiatura e anche l'aspetto visivo e recitativo... ci piacerebbe vedere una nuova Cenerentola di produzione americana che sia fedele alla fiaba in live action... in USA hanno tanti mezzi e pensiamo che se si impegnano a fondo questo film può risultare bellissimo! teniamo le dita incrociate!

Non sarà nè un remake del film del 1950 nè un remake del film del 1997 con Brandy... è un film tutto nuovo... certo la storia base è la fiaba di Cenerentola, ma poi la adatteranno diversamente... un po' come è stato con Alice di Tim Burton che non è un remake del classico Disney...

Allora sono curioso (anche se mi bastava una specie di remake della versione del 1950)... chissà cosa ci aspetterà, in effetti abbiamo visto versioni dove la protagonista era diventata una ribelle, oppure ambientante ai giorni nostri, oppure senza nessuna forma di magia, e anche una narrata dal punto di vista di una delle sorellastre... ora vediamo

Sì uscirà dopo Malefica... per ora è presto per parlarne... devono revisionare la sceneggiatura... quindi prima finiscono questo lavoro, poi pensano all'attrice protagonista...

rivendendo alice ieri, ho pensato ma come potrebbe essere una cenerentola in uno stile nuovo? ad esempio che la matrigna in realtà è un strega malvagia che vuole far sposare il principe ad una delle sue figlie per avere il regno e cenerentola è la prescelta per sconfiggerla? oppure una ragazza dei giorni nostri scopre di essere la reincarnazione di cenerentola?

Un fenomeno interessante potrebbe essere il vedere una Cenerentola versione Perrault ad una Cenerentola versione Grimm (niente fata, ma con animali, la tomba della madre e la pianta miracolosa), infatti è stata annunciata una trasposizione cinematografica del musical di Stephen Sondheim "Into The Woods" che vede una Cenerentola versione Grimm coprotagonista della vicenda con altri personaggi sempre tratti dalle fiabe dei Grimm. Stando alla versione di Sondheim però Cenerentola verrà tradita dal principe e troverà una propria strada indipendente a quella della fiaba... Dopo lo scontro delle Biancanevi e il possibile scontro dei maghi di Oz ecco un possibile scontro di Cenerentole, in tutto questo torna anche Giacomino e il Fagiolo Magico (presente,almeno in parte, anche in "Into The Woods") e Maleficent insomma il futuro cinematografico sarà estremamente fiabesco... La cosa strana è che tutte queste fiabe sono e saranno in live action, mentre il mondo dell'animazione sta buttandosi sul leggendario (Brave) o sullo sperimentale (Ralph), capovolgendo decenni di tradizione cinematografica.

bene... sono proprio curioso; in teoria la cenerentola animata del 1950 è un incrocio tra quella dei grimm e perrault anche se prende di più da quest'ultimo ad esempio il vestito appartenuto alla madre è un collegamento alla versione grimm...

Ma si ci sta anche la sfida tra Cenerentole... per l'animazione non mi dispiacerebbe vedere delle favole classiche con la grafica di Rapunzel

Cate Blanchett in Negotiations for Evil Stepmother in Disney's Cinderella Film (Exclusive)

Cate Blanchett is in negotiations to play the evil stepmother in Disney’s re-imagining of the classic fairytale Cinderella, the "Untitled Cinderella Story," an individual with knowledge of the situation told TheWrap.


Blanchett would be the first to be cast in the live-action film. It is being directed by Mark Romanek for the studio based on a script by Chris Weitz.

The film is being produced by Simon Kinberg, who is best-known for the "X-Men" series.

The feature was first set up at Disney in May 2010 based on a pitch by Aline Brosh McKenna (“Devil Wear Prada.”), who wrote the initial draft.

Disney set the project up in the wake of its success with “Alice in Wonderland,” an adaptation of the Lewis C. Carroll book that starred Johnny Depp.

Disney representatives could not be reached for comment.

Blanchett can next be seen on screen in “The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey” on Dec. 14. She was recently confirmed for George Clooney’s upcoming film “The Monuments Men.” She will also be seen in “The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug” and “The Hobbit: There and Back Again.”

Cinderella has been adapted for the big screen dozens of times. In Andy Tennant’s 1998 version “Ever After: A Cinderella Story,” Angelica Houston played the evil stepmother. In the TV movie “Cinderella” in 1997, the role was played by Bernadette Peters. Sigourney Weaver voiced the character in “Happily N’Ever After” in 2006. Disney’s 1950 version featured Eleanor Audley in the voice role of Lady Tremaine, the wicked stepmother.

Che bello! Ce la vedo proprio nei suoi panni!

Mai casting fu più azzeccato!!!
Fantastico questo trend di affidare a grandi attori/attrici ruoli iconici della tradizione Disney... che poi se vogliamo il tutto iniziò molto tempo fa con la Crudelia di una eccezionale Glenn Close!

Ma mi sfugge una cosa, ok sarà una reimmaginazione, ma in chiave moderna? Perchè così' si disse all'inizio. Tuttavia col successo degli ultimi live action cinematografici (e si spera di quelli attualmente in produzione), Once in TV credo che anche questa Cenerentola avrà un look fiabesco quasi fantasy! E non dimentichiamoci del musical Into the Woods.

Ora voglio vedere Maryl Streep in uno di questi film (ok è probabile che sia in Into the Woods ma quello è un film corale). Sto scorrendo tutta la filmografia ma ormai è stato rifatto quasi tutto... Al massimo potrebbe fare Mother Gothel in una futura e eventuale reimmaginazione di Rapunzel! (e sarebbe eccezionale ma ormai comincia ad avere una certa età ).

E qualcosa mi dice che anche il tanto vituperato The Orden of the Seven un giorno resusciterà ... del resto se l'avessero fatto adesso avrebbero dovuto limitare al massimo i riferimenti alla fiaba per non incorrere in una terza biancaneve; e la cosa sarebbe stata inaccettabile. Spero torni ad essere Snow and the seven (titolo bellissimo che strizza un pò l'occhio ai sette samurai!!)

Scelta perfetta Cate Blanchett per la matrigna cattiva. La Blanchett è una bravissima attrice.

Io credo che sarà una mix tra la versione del 1998 con drew barrymore e angelica huston e quella del 1997 con Brandy e Whitney Houston... forse avrà un'ambientazione fantasy, oppure sarà una ragazza dei giorni nostri che scopre di essere una reincarnazione di cenrentola? boh tutto mistero... io spero che esca almeno nel 2014 magari fanno la doppietta con "Maleficent".

noi speriamo sia in costume, e sia fiaba, non eccessivamente fantasy... una fiaba fiaba... la trasposizione a film della fiaba di Perrault...

per la protagonista non sappiamo... tutto può essere... dipende...

Who will fit into Disney's glass slipper?

With Cate Blanchett in negotiations to play the evil stepmother in the Mouse House's live-action remake of "Cinderella," the studio has begun narrowing its search for the classic fairy tale's title character, sure to be a star-making role.

The three foreign-born actresses who will soon be testing for director Mark Romanek are established Irish thesp Saoirse Ronan ("The Host"), up-and-coming Swedish thesp Alicia Vikander and Brit thesp Gabriella Wilde, who appeared in "The Three Musketeers" and just wrapped the role of Sue Snell in Sony/MGM's "Carrie" remake.

Chris Weitz ("About a Boy") wrote the pic, which Aline Brosh McKenna ("The Devil Wears Prada") sold to Disney as a pitch back in 2010. Simon Kinberg ("Elysium") is producing the project, which Disney set up in May 2010 following the success of its live-action adaptation of "Alice in Wonderland."

Ronan has been in high demand since her breakout turn in 2007's "Atonement." Since then, Ronan has worked with top directors such as Peter Jackson and Joe Wright, and she's due for another career boost when Open Road Films releases Andrew Niccol's adaptation of Stephenie Meyer's bestselling novel "The Host" on March 29. Scheduling could prove a problem for Ronan, as next year, she's due to play the female lead in Wes Anderson's "Grand Budapest Hotel" and she's also attached to star in Working Title's historical drama "Mary Queen of Scots." She's repped by CAA and Macfarlane Chard.

Coincidentally, Ronan and Blanchett nearly worked together on Disney's Snow White pic "Order of Seven" before that project was beaten to the starting line by Universal's "Snow White and the Huntsman" and Relativity Media's "Mirror Mirror."

Vikander was just named one of Variety's 10 Actors to Watch on the strength of her performances in Wright's "Anna Karenina" and Nikolaj Arcel's "A Royal Affair," which is Denmark's entry in the foreign language Oscar race. Vikander also stars alongside Jeff Bridges and Julianne Moore in WB/Legendary's big-budget fantasy pic "The Seventh Son."

In addition to "Carrie," Wilde will soon be seen alongside Richard Dreyfuss and Thomas Dekker in the indie drama "Squatters."

Wilde is repped by ICM Partners and Tavistock Wood Management, the latter of which also reps Vikander along with UTA.
