Kelvin Harrison Jr. To Play Classical Musician Chevalier de Saint-Georges In New Biopic

According to Deadline, Kelvin Harrison Jr. is currently in talks to play the classical French musical prodigy Joseph de Bologne, Chevalier de Saint-Georges in an upcoming film from Searchlight Pictures.

The story is based off a pitch by writer Stefani Robinson (Atlanta) and, so far, Stephen Williams (Watchmen) is on board to direct.

The illegitimate son of a French slave and a plantation, de Saint-Georges defied the odds and grew up to make a name for himself as a master violinist and composer in 18th century France. Despite becoming a prominent socialite though, he would ultimately meet his downfall as a result of an affair with a married Noblewoman and a dispute with the notorious Marie Antoinette.

With unforgettable and star-making performances in films like Monsters and Men, Luce, and Waves, over the last few years Harrison Jr. has made quite the name for himself in Hollywood. He last starred as the late Fred Hampton in Aaron Sorkin’s Academy Award nominated The Trial of the Chicago 7, and can next be seen in Baz Luhrman’s upcoming Elvis biopic as B.B. King, as well as the next season of Euphoria.

Lucy Boynton To Play Marie Antoinette In Searchlight’s ‘Chevalier’ Starring Kelvin Harrison Jr.

EXCLUSIVE: Lucy Boynton is set to play Marie Antoinette Searchlight’s biopic Chevalier de Saint-Georges, starring Kelvin Harrison Jr. in title role. Searchlight landed the original feature pitch from Stefani Robinson last summer with Watchmen director Stephen Williams on board to direct. Samara Weaving also recently joined the cast.

Born in 1745 in the French Caribbean, de Saint-Georges was the illegitimate son of an African slave and a French plantation owner. He rose to improbable heights in French society, dazzling as both a violinist and composer and a champion fencer. An ill-fated love affair with a French noblewoman and a falling out with Marie Antoinette and her court led to his untimely downfall.

Element Pictures, Robinson and Dianne McGunigle will produce. The project is being overseen by SVP Production DanTram Nguyen, Director of Production Zahra Phillips and creative exec Cornelia Burleigh.

Boynton, best known for her breakout role opposite Rami Malek in Bohemian Rhapsody, recently wrapped production on ITV’s The Ipcress File alongside Tom Hollander and Joe Cole. Boynton will star in Hugh Laurie’s adaptation of Agatha Christie’s Why Didn’t They Ask Evans?, opposite Will Poulter. Boynton also will star as Marianne Faithfull in Faithfull, a biopic she’ll also exec produce about the iconic rock singer’s rise to fame during the British Invasion.

She is repped by CAA, United Agents, and Jackoway Austen Tyerman.

Molto interessante sia il soggetto che il cast! Vorrei sapere cosa ne pensano i Veu di questa Maria Antonietta, verosimilmente dipinta ancora una volta come antagonista / personaggio negativo.

a quanto abbiamo sentito dire nel film (così come nella storia) Maria Antonietta non è negativa... anzi il litigio con lei pare essere avvenuto per un complotto... così almeno avevamo letto
tenete conto che ora come ora a Hollywood non fanno più antagonisti a tutto tondo, ma personaggi tormentati con spiegazioni di fondo... e pensiamo che qua sarà così

Una storia di inclusività che appare senza ipocrisia, apparentemente rispettando la Storia e i suoi rappresentanti. Sembrerebbe una bella testimonianza di riscatto. Speriamo che anche il film sia forte come questo trailer.
