Nuovi dettagli sugli spin-off di Star Wars

'Star Wars' spin-offs: A young Han Solo movie, and a Boba Fett film

Yesterday, The Walt Disney Co. unveiled plans to make a number of spin-off movies set a long time ago in a galaxy far, far away — in addition to the post-Return of the Jedi trilogy that had already been announced.
Entertainment Weekly has learned details on two of the spin-off projects: A young Han Solo saga, focusing on the wisecracking smuggler’s origin story, and a bounty hunter adventure with Boba Fett at the center of a rogue’s gallery of galactic scum.

Several sources close to the projects confirmed this was the direction the development was taking, although each cautioned it’s still very early in the process and, well, the deal could always be altered futher. Lucasfilm and Disney declined to comment on the information.

The Han Solo story would take place in the time period between Revenge of the Sith and the first Star Wars (now known as A New Hope), so although it’s possible Harrison Ford could appear as a framing device, the movie would require a new actor for the lead — one presumably much younger than even the 35-year-old Ford when he appeared in the 1977 original.

The Boba Fett film would take place either between A New Hope and The Empire Strikes Back, or between Empire and Jedi, where the bounty hunter was last seen plunging unceremoniously into a sarlacc pit. Exactly who would play him isn’t much of a complication – in the original trilogy, he never took off his helmet. And in the prequels, we learned he was the son of the original stormtrooper clone, played by Temuera Morrison, who’s still the right age for the part if his services were required.

In addition to bringing back two fan-favorite characters as the leads of their own films, the Han Solo and Boba Fett projects would also allow Darth Vader, in full-on black death-metal gear, to return as a villain, since placing the spin-offs within the original trilogy would mean he is still alive and hissing. That timeline would also open the door for a return from visit with everyone’s favorite degenerate slug-like gangster, Jabba the Hutt.

Walt Disney Co. chairman and CEO Bob Iger announced the existence of spin-off plans yesterday as part of the company’s quarterly earnings report. He said the screenwriters working of the stand-alone films are Simon Kinberg (Mr. & Mrs. Smith, Sherlock Holmes) and Lawrence Kasdan (screenwriter of The Empire Strikes Back, Raiders of the Lost Ark and the filmmaker behind The Big Chill.)

The pair are also involved in the drafting of the new trilogy, with Michael Arndt (Little Miss Sunshine, Toy Story 3) penning the first of the series, which J. J. Abrams has agreed to direct. That film is scheduled to hit theaters in 2015.

There is no indication who might direct the Boba Fett and Han Solo films if they end up coming to fruition. Joe Johnston, director of Captain America and The Rocketeer, originally designed the armor for Boba Fett and told Screenrant he would like to make a film based around the character. Recently, Robert Rodriguez told MTV he would jump at the chance to make a Han Solo film if it were offered to him — although that seemed more like casual interest than a serious proposal.

The recent novel Scoundrels, by sci-fi author Timothy Zahn, focused on the exploits of Solo in the period between A New Hope and Empire as he set up an Ocean’s 11-type heist of a gangster’s fortune. But sources said it was not the basis for any film currently in the works.
As for other spin-offs, Ain’t It Cool reported Monday that a Yoda-centric film may be in the works, and earlier last month Vulture reported Zack Snyder may create a Seven Samurai-inspired Star Wars spin-off, although the filmmaker later said that was untrue.
Lucasfilm has ramped up its development in recent months under the new leadership of Kathleen Kennedy, who stepped in as co-chair of the company as Star Wars creator George Lucas stepped back and sold the company to the Walt Disney Co.
Kennedy, who has her eighth nomination for the Best Picture Oscar this year as producer of Lincoln, has a long track record of making films that strike a nerve with the original Star Wars generation, among them E.T. the Extra-Terrestrial and everything from Gremlins to The Goonies and the Back to the Future movies.
The question now: If these films do happen, who would you cast as a young Han Solo – or should they cast someone as relatively unknown as Ford once was?

7 marzo 2013 - 17:27
Fonte: Bloomberg via BadWars

Disney Brings the Force to CinemaCon

Alan Horn talks 'Star Wars;' Depp, Hammer on hand for 'Ranger'

Six months after stunning Hollywood with its LucasFilm acquisition, Disney announced that it plans to release the next three “Star Wars” films in 2015, 2017 and 2019.

Disney Studios chief Alan Horn made the revelation on Wednesday at the studio’s presentation at CinemaCon after touting LuscasFilm as “perfect for the family imprimatur” of Disney.

Disney had disclosed last October that it would open “Star Wars: Episode VII” in 2015 and Horn said Wednesday that it would be a summer release, followed by the next two alternating every other year. He also said Wednesday that Disney and LucasFilm are at work on other films related to “Star Wars” characters but did not elaborate.

J.J. Abrams will direct “Star Wars: Episode VII” from a script by Michael Arndt.

The first six George Lucas’ “Star Wars” grossed $4.4 billion globally and billions more from TV shows, videogames, theme park rides and merchandise.

Disney devoted most of its attention to two titles Wednesday with a screening of Pixar’s “Monsters University” and an appearance by director Gore Verbinksi, stars Armie Hammer and Johnny Depp and producer Jerry Bruckheimer to promote “The Lone Ranger” along with 20 minutes of footage — featuring the Lone Ranger and Tonto meeting for the first time on a train that crashes spectactularly, Tonto talking to a horse and the Lone Ranger vowing revenge for the murder of his brother.

“We saw the picture yesterday and it looks terrific,” Horn said.

Disney also released a new trailer for “Ranger,” which opens on July 3.

Playing Games With A Mouse...

ns worried about the end of Star Wars gaming with the closing of LucasArts...

But the franchise is too big to be closed down. There is simply too much opportunity to make money with this universe: and it's a big, big universe. Kathleen Kennedy has had numerous meetings with gaming companies over the past few months, just as she's had multiple meetings with film makers. She's entertained a voluminous amount of pitches for films, shows and games. And now we know who gets to carry on the Lucasfilm gaming legacy.

Electronic Arts.

Lucasfilm and Disney Interactive announce their multi-year deal with EA today:

Electronic Arts Selected for Multi-Year Agreement for the Future of Star Wars Gaming
May 06, 2013

Today it was announced that Lucasfilm Ltd. and Disney Interactive are entering into a multi-year, multi-title exclusive licensing agreement with Electronic Arts Inc. (EA) for the creation of new high quality Star Wars games spanning multiple genres for console, PC, mobile, and tablets.
Industry leaders and creators of best-in-class blockbuster games, the development and publishing teams at EA will collaborate with the creative teams at Lucasfilm to provide audiences with all-new gaming experiences set in the ever-expanding Star Wars galaxy. As part of the agreement, EA studio teams DICE (Battlefield series) and Visceral (Dead Space series) will join BioWare (Mass Effect series, Star Wars: The Old Republic) in the development of newStar Wars games.
"Our number one objective was to find a developer who could consistently deliver our fans great Star Wars games for years to come," said Kathleen Kennedy, President of Lucasfilm. "When we looked at the talent of the teams that EA was committing to our games and the quality of their vision for Star Wars, the choice was clear."
While EA studios will develop for the core Star Wars gaming audience, Disney Interactive will focus on delivering new Star Warsgames for casual audiences on mobile, social, tablet, and online gaming platforms.
"This agreement demonstrates our commitment to creating quality game experiences that drive the popularity of the Star Warsfranchise for years to come," said John Pleasants, co-president of Disney Interactive. "Collaborating with one of the world's premier game developers will allow us to bring an amazing portfolio of newStar Wars titles to fans around the world."
"Every developer dreams of creating games for the Star Warsuniverse," said EA Labels President Frank Gibeau. "Three of our top studios will fulfill that dream, crafting epic adventures for Star Warsfans. The new experiences we create may borrow from films, but the games will be entirely original with all new stories and gameplay."
More information, including titles in development, will be announced in the coming months. Continue to check StarWars.com for updates on the future of Star Wars gaming.

And if you want to see the quality the new games will have then check out the Frostbite 3 gaming engine (warning: NSFW). This will be the technology they'll be using for the new games. Imagine this quality of gaming with lasers, light sabers and Sith Lords. Impressive.

I've always felt that Iger should pursue a similar strategy that he's used in purchasing film companies like Pixar, Marvel and Lucasfilm when dealing with Gaming. Instead of going after one of the big companies, he's went for mid-level or lower level companies that have had predictable results. Perhaps in a few years he or his successor can bring someone like EA into the Disney family and have it under Disney Interactive? It would certainly be a boost to the one part of the company that seems to continually be flailing behind companies like the Warner Bros. Warner Games is certainly a much more profitable division of the Bunny than the Mouse's Disney Interactive.

But we have years to go before we get there..

A cosa ti dedicherai in futuro?

Exclusive: Tudors Star In Talks To Join ‘Star Wars: Episode VII’
Posted on 5.20.13 by Kellvin Chavez

Disney is working to produce a film that will continue the story of where 1983′s Episode VI: Return of the Jedi left off. Production on the seventh film in the series will start next year in the UK. Episode VII is expected to hit theaters in 2015.

Aside from the return (in an unknown capacity) of stars: Mark Hamill, Harrison Ford, and Carrie Fisher (WE first broke Harrison Ford coming back), not much else is known.

My right hand man El Mayimbe recently heard that a young man who has only been in one major franchise movie (in a co-starring role) was in talks to star in the new Star Wars film.

Now, my source has told me more information…

This is a name that has been thrown around a lot, especially since he has a relationship with J.J. Abrams. He appeared in Mission Impossible: III, directed by Abrams.

Sounds like he already has it.

He’s none other than…

The Tudors (2007-2010) star Jonathan Rhys Meyers.

As for what role he would be playing, we don’t know.

Episode VI: Return of the Jedi represented the end of the Star Wars series on film but the story for Episode VII will be original and written by Michael Arndt, whose writing credits include Toy Story 3 and the upcoming The Hunger Games: Catching Fire.

So what do you think? Let us know below…And also EXPECT DENIALS FROM ABRAMS…Wasn’t he the one that said he wasn’t directing the next Star Wars movie? Didn’t he deny the existence of a specific character in Star Trek Into Darkness?

wow un casting call!!!
http://anonymouse.org/cgi-bin/anon-www.cgi...ls-leak?_r=true

"Star Wars: Episode VII" casting and character rumors continue to fly fast and furious around the internet. Our own Drew McWeeny wrote about some false rumors last week, and today Bleeding Cool says that they have "100% confirmed" the first true casting breakdowns for the new movie and that open casting has started today.

To be clear, these descriptions make no mention of character names or backgrounds or anything else. They are much more of the age/build/look variety. Without any further ado, said descriptions are as follows:
Late-teen female, independent, good sense of humour, fit.

Young twenty-something male, witty and smart, fit but not traditionally good looking.

A late twentysomething male, fit, handsome and confident.

Seventy-something male, with strong opinions and tough demeanour. Also doesn’ t need to be particularly fit.

A second young female, also late teens, tough, smart and fit.

Forty something male, fit, military type.

Thirtysomething male, intellectual. Apparently doesn’t need to be fit.

One would, of course, hope to read something along the lines of "can wield two lightsabers at once" or a nice "the Force must be strong with this one," but alas, such is not to be. Even so, it is nice to think about piecing together potential ideas and characters and to see Abrams' new film evolve
