Steve Martin in Final Negotiations to Star in Disney’s MAGIC CAMP

We haven’t seen Steve Martin on the big screen since The Big Year in 2011 and minus the animated film Home, he doesn’t even have anything on the way. However, that could change soon, because it’s being reported that Martin is currently in final negotiations to star in Disney’s Magic Camp.
Martin co-wrote the most recent draft of the script with A.C.O.D. writer-director Stu Zicherman and it focuses on a “straight-laced” banker who attended Magic Camp as a kid. Now, all grown up, he’s going back to become a counselor in hopes of winning the Golden Wand competition. Hit the jump for more on the project.
steve-martin-magic-shopAccording to THR, Diary of a Wimpy Kid scribes Gabe Sachs and Jeff Judah are the ones who penned the original script and now Martin and Zicherman are giving a new draft a go. There are no producers attached and Disney doesn’t have a director on board yet either, but if they manage to lock Martin in to star, that’d really turn the project into an appealing gig for anyone.
In fact, perhaps this is the kind of movie about magic we really need right now. The Incredible Burt Wonderstone is pretty ridiculous and even though Now You See Me is entertaining enough, the magic in it really starts to break down in the third act of the film. Clearly an adult character will be at the center of this one, but having the story go down at a kids’ camp where they’re learning about magic could keep the tricks more grounded and interesting to watch.
On top of that, via /Film, Martin already has some real life magic experience. A young Martin worked at a magic shop in Disneyland. In fact, there’s actually a video of an older Martin talking about his experience working in that shop in a Disneyland 50th anniversary celebration video. Skip to the 3:26 mark of the video below to check it out:

Walt Disney Pictures has set Adam DeVine and Jeffrey Tambor to star in the family comedy “Magic Camp.”

“Mean Girls” director Mark Waters is attached to direct.

The story follows DeVine’s character who is pulled out of retirement by his former mentor and returns as a counselor to the magic camp of his youth hoping to reignite his career. Instead, he finds inspiration in his ragtag bunk of rookie magicians. Tambor will play Roy Preston, the mentor and owner of the magic camp.

Suzanne Todd is attached to produce with production to begin in early December in and around Los Angeles. Dan Gregor and Doug Mand wrote the most recent draft. Steve Martin had penned a previous draft when he was attached to play the mentor, but he is no longer involved with the project.

DeVine was most recently seen in Fox’s comedy “Mike and Dave Need Wedding Dates” and is currently in production on his Comedy Central show “Workaholics.” He also recently wrapped production on the Netflix film “When We First Met” opposite Alexandra Daddario. He is repped by WME, Avalon and Lawyer Jeff Endlich.

Tambor is coming off his second consecutive Emmy win for best actor in comedy series on “Transparent.” He was also recently seen in Ben Affleck’s “The Accountant.” He is repped by Gersh and Burstein Company.

Le riprese sono cominciate. Ecco di seguito qualcosa in più sulla trama:

Da Comingsoon.net

Disney’s Magic Camp begins production, starring Jeffrey Tambor

Production has begun on Disney’s Magic Camp, a live-action comedy starring Adam Devine (Mike and Dave Need Wedding Dates, Pitch Perfect), Gillian Jacobs (Community, Girls) and Emmy and Golden Globe winner Jeffrey Tambor (Transparent, The Larry Sanders Show) directed by Mark Waters (Bad Santa 2, Mean Girls). The film is shooting on locations in and around Los Angeles and is scheduled for release in 2017.

Tambor plays Roy Preston, the owner of a summer camp for aspiring young magicians and Devine is Andy, a former camper whose flailing career as a magician has forced him to return to the camp as a counselor. Also returning to the camp is Andy’s former partner and current nemesis, Darkwood, played by Jacobs, who is now a successful magician. When preparations begin for the end-of-summer magic contest between rival teams of campers, Andy and his team of ragtag misfits must go head to head with Darkwood and her campers. In the process, Andy is inspired by the young campers and rediscovers his passion for magic.

Magic Camp is produced by Suzanne Todd (Bad Moms, the Austin Powers films) with Mario Iscovich (McFarland, USA, The Princess Diaries) and Jessica Tuchinsky (500 Days of Summer, Mr. Popper’s Penguins) serving as executive producers. The film also stars: Nathaniel McIntyre (Barry), Cole Sand (Austin & Ally), Isabella Crovetti (Joy), J.J. Totah (Liv & Maddie), Izabella Alverez (Westworld), Hayden Crawford (Nicky, Ricky, Dicky & Dawn), Bianca Grava (Game Shakers) and Lonnie Chavis (This is Us, Bella and the Bulldogs).

Triste.
