Hollywood Insider : Disney’s sequel slate From the corridors of Disney, a couple of interesting tidbits. When Dick Cook took over the Mouse Factory he was quick to can quite a few movies that were simply an escrow account away from picking a start date. Most of those films were sequels - like Wild Hogs 2. Just a coincidence, it seems. “Everyone assumed Cook hates sequels. Not true. He’s the biggest supporter of TRON Legacy - even more so than his predecessor. And he’s only axing those that aren’t worth doing”, I was told by an insider today. “There’s plenty of sequels in production”. There’s three high on the studio’s priority list. We’ve been hearing the cast talk about it for years, even had the studio confirm that it’s in development, but seems Three Men and a Baby 3 is finally inching forward. “Disney is very keen to get going on it. The script came out well. Just a matter of scheduling the film around Tom Selleck and Ted Danson, who are both committed to television series at present. ..Summer Hiatus probably”. The script is apparently “more Father of the Bride than Three Men and a Baby, with Peter, Michael and Jack struggling to come to terms with Mary’s upcoming nuptials.” Steve Guttenberg and Nancy Travis will also return for the film. No surprise who Disney would like to direct. “Leonard Nimoy. It probably won’t go any further than lunch.” The other film, also a sequel, that’s high up on Ross’ to-do list is Tangled 2. “No surprise, have you seen the numbers?” my contact asks. “It’s [Disney's] Shrek franchise”. Indeed it could be… but when’s the earliest we’re likely to see it? 2014? The other film that’s potentially going to spawn a sequel is Flubber (which itself was a remake of The Absent Minded Professor). “They’re trying to interest Robin Williams, they’ve been trying for a while, into doing a 3D sequel”, I’m told. “They’ve always be keen to follow up Flubber, but I don’t think they believe it’d be worthwhile without Williams”. Now that could be fun… Flubber 3D! Gooey Green Stuff flying off the screen and into the audience! They’re probably right about needing Williams though. But is Robin so desperate that he needs to do a Flubber 2!? …. Yeah, I guess he is. Messaggio modificato da Scissorhands il 12/12/2010, 12:02 |
