Disney Hires Dave Green to Direct Untitled Wolf Adventure
by Brendan Bettinger Posted:May 22nd, 2012 at 7:28 pm

Dave Green just made a deal with Disney for his feature directorial debut. The studio declined to release a logline, but Variety describes it as a “wolf adventure.” Do you need to know any more? They ought to title it Wolf Adventure and call it a day. Andrew Panay (When in Rome) will produce; the plan is to start production this fall. Given the fresh director and the original property status, Variety speculates this will be a low-budget affair, perhaps in response to the money Disney poured into developing their Snow White remake before halting production earlier this evening.

Green comes from the world of commercials and music videos. He made a minor splash in industry circles with his comedic shorts Pinkberry: The Movie and WME Staff Meeting, which stylishly mock Hollywood agencies. Both are embedded after the jump.

Disney sets Green for wolf adventure pic
Panay to produce what's expected to be a lower-budget effort
By MARC GRASER
Disney has set Dave Green to make his directorial debut on an untitled wolf adventure that Andrew Panay will produce.
Studio isn't revealing the logline but hopes to start production sometime this fall. Decision to move forward with the film signals that Sean Bailey, Disney's president of production, isn't waiting for a new chairman before choosing which projects to move forward with following last month's resignation of Rich Ross.

Green is best known for helming commercials and musicvideos, as well as comedic short films, including "Pinkberry the Movie" and "WME Staff Meeting," the latter of which made the Hollywood rounds in recent weeks.

Wolf pic is likely to be produced as one of Disney's more lower-budgeted efforts given that it's a new unknown property. News broke Tuesday that Disney was halting pre-production on "Order of Seven," its big-budget fantasy loosely based on the Snow White fairy tale.

Panay, meanwhile, recently boarded an untitled space adventure pitch from "Chronicle" scribe Max Landis for Disney. He's also readying an untitled comedy set to star Molly Shannon; baseball dramedy "Late in the Count"; body swapping laffer "Something Cliqued"; and "The Girlfriend Equation," a romantic comedy based on a story from radio show "This American Life."

His credits also include "When in Rome" and "Old Dogs."

Helmer is repped by WME and Kaplan/Perrone Entertainment.

EXCLUSIVE: Relativity has acquired worldwide distribution rights to Echo, an adventure film that was developed and shot by Disney. The film didn’t fit the Mouse’s release strategy, and producer Andrew Panay brought it to Relativity president Tucker Tooley and production president Robbie Brenner. They’ve completed the deal to get the film out of Disney and have already set Echo for release on January 10, 2014. The film stars Astro (from X Factor) and a cast of up and comers that includes Teo Halm, Reese C. Hartwig and Ella Wahlestedt. The logline: After a construction project begins digging up their neighborhood, a group of friends begin receiving strange encoded messages on their cell phones. After being rebuffed by parents and authorities, they take it upon themselves to investigate the source of the messages. Dave Green made his directing debut on a Henry Gayden script. Panay produced and Relativity CEO Ryan Kavanaugh and Tooley are exec producers. That gives Relativity another film after a busy next few months that starts with the August 16 release of Paranoia; the Luc Besson film The Family on September 13; Joe Gordon-Levitt’s directing debut Don Jon which just got a berth in Toronto before its September 27 release; the Jimmy Hayward-directed Free Birds out on November 1; and the Scott Cooper-directed Out Of The Furnace, which gets released November 27. That film stars Christian Bale, Zoe Saldana, Woody Harrelson and Casey Affleck.
