Da Hollywood Reporter:
'Sword in the Stone' Live-Action Remake in the Works With 'Game of Thrones' Writer (Exclusive) The title was a Disney animated movie in 1963. Disney is revisiting its 1963 animated fantasy The Sword in the Stone, putting into development a live-action remake. Brian Cogman, a writer-producer on HBO’s fantasy Game of Thrones, has been tapped to pen the script for the project, which will be produced by Brigham Taylor. Stone, the final movie released before Walt Disney’s death, told of a young King Arthur who is being mentored by Merlin. The feature is loosely based on the T.H. White’s novel of the same name, which later became part of White’s multi-book Arthurian fantasy The Once and Future King. Taylor, a former production exec at Disney, is producing the studio’s live-action version of The Jungle Book, Jon Favreau’s remake of its 1967 animated movie. Cogman has already demonstrated an affinity for the Medieval fantasy genre. His work on Thrones has seen him nominated for WGA Awards four times and he is currently working on adapting the fantasy card game Magic: The Gathering for Fox. He also adapted YA fantasy The False Prince for Paramount. He is repped by UTA, Management 360 and Hansen Jacobson.

Scherzi a parte, per me andrebbe bene Susan Boyle. |

Trovato il regista! Si tratta di Juan Carlos Fresnadillo.
Dal sito Hollywood Reporter: Disney's 'Sword in the Stone' Live-Action Remake Finds Director (Exclusive) Juan Carlos Fresnadillo will direct from a script written by 'Game of Thrones' scribe Bryan Cogman. Juan Carlos Fresnadillo, perhaps best known for directing the zombie thriller 28 Weeks Later, is in negotiations to helm The Sword in the Stone, Disney's live-action reimagining of the studio's 1963 animated fantasy. Bryan Cogman, a writer-producer on HBO fantasy series Game of Thrones, wrote the script for the project, which is being produced by Brigham Taylor (The Jungle Book). Stone was the final movie released by the studio before Walt Disney’s death; it takes a lighthearted view of the legend of King Arthur, focusing on the young Arthur being mentored by the magician Merlin. It was loosely based on T.H. White’s novel of the same name, which later became part of White’s multibook Arthurian fantasy, The Once and Future King. Stone is the second Arthurian project the studio is developing as it's also working on The Merlin Saga, with Ridley Scott circling the tale of the powerful wizard's rise. Louie Provost is overseeing Stone for the studio. Fresnadillo’s hiring points to the direction in which the remake will head. The filmmaker is known for his dark tones and directed the 2011 horror movie Intruders as well as the pilots for USA thriller Falling Water and CBS’ end-of-the-world drama Salvation. He is repped by UTA. |

Da Deadline [...] Priority development projects include 3 Men and a Baby; Sword and the Stone; and Timmy Failure, the latter of which has Spotlight director Tom McCarthy in the creative mix.. [...] |

Dal sito ScreenRant:
While Disney’s live-action remakes of its classic animated filmography have proven extremely lucrative for the studio thus far, the news that Sword in the Stone is heading to the company’s streaming service instead of theaters makes sense, in the wake of reports that Ridley Scott is directing The Merlin Saga for the Mouse House. With Juan Carlos Fresnadillo (28 Weeks Later) attached to direct, The Sword in the Stone should be a far cry from Scott’s own Arthurian retelling and will further help to entice people to sign up for Disney’s streaming service when it goes live.
