Disney’s Frozen 2 Has Begun Test Screenings

Walt Disney Animation Studios’ Frozen II on Thursday had its first test screening, director Jennifer Lee reported on Twitter.

Jennifer Lee ✔ @alittlejelee: Important screening tomorrow. Break a leg F2; I love you.

“Important screening tomorrow,” Lee tweeted Wednesday. “Break a leg F2; I love you.”

Lee, who now serves as chief creative officer for the Disney animation studio, returns as director alongside Frozen partner Chris Buck. In 2013, the duo steered the CG-animated hit to a cool $1.2 billion worldwide, making it the highest-grossing animated film of all time.

Returning alongside Lee and Buck are sisters Anna (Kristen Bell) and Elsa (Idina Menzel), huggable snowman Olaf (Josh Gad), and Kristoff (Jonathan Groff) and loyal reindeer Sven. Franchise newcomers to be welcomed to the fairytale kingdom of Arendelle are Sterling K. Brown (Black Panther) and Evan Rachel Wood (Westworld), who joined the film last summer in unknown roles.

“The big thing for us — and I’m being careful because I can’t give away anything. I’ll get in so much trouble. I think the big thing for me is; we weren’t going to do a sequel,” Lee told Slashfilm.

“Chris and I were like, ‘That story’s done.’ But then one day we just made the mistake of talking about something and going, ‘Oh my gosh. That’s the thing we still haven’t explored, and it’s important.’ Then I spent time writing these journals as the girls. I didn’t do it from exactly [copying the original] because I can’t. And if we tried to do it that way, I think we would have something very hollow.”

The sequel follows the friends as they embark far beyond Arendelle on an epic and daring journey.

“So just like the first one, I approached it from the inside out, because I have to,” Lee said.

“So I hope — but in some ways, it gives it that inevitable feeling and yet surprise. ‘Oh, it’s going there!’ But yet it completely feels like that’s the journey they have. So that’s my hope.”

Walt Disney Animation Studios releases Frozen II November 22.

There was calendar from Russia, there was Korean exhibition. And now, leaks from Poland… I think so? I doubt it, actually.

But first, what is video about? This guy says, that he got some information about Frozen 2 from anonymous, who works in place where he can get this informations. Guy calls him Informator.

The information are:

• On 99% this two kids from teaser are Agdar and Idunn in their younger years. Informator also says, that there will be a lot of informations about them.

• Our favourite team is in isoleted forst (we alredy know it),

• This forest is guarded by someone who is called Woodsman and he will be inportant for the story

• There also will be solder named Matthias but it is possible, that Matthias and Woodsman are the same person (guy from video says that he’s not sure that he understood Informator well). Anyway, they are going to guard a forest,

• In forest lives a tribe, that will probably have darker skin than people we know from Frozen. They are the reason forest i guarded

• In Frozen II will be ebodiment of element’s spirit who will collaborate with Elsa’s power. There’s no information of wich element is this spirit (guy in the video types water, ice or air). Sure is that the ebodiment will be in horse shape and beginnigs of its and Elsa’s relationship will be tough. It’s name will be Nog (if I heard that well)

• The last thing is that Anna will be linger with marring Kristoff

On one hand it sound very fake. But on the other, it sounds legit. We have information, that trailer can be dropped on next Wednesdays (video was uploaded 4 days ago but who cares)

The girl can be from this tribe (Sami-like clothes, darker skin) and we know from musical that Idunn was from Northern Folk.

For me, Nog fits in the story. We saw in trailer Elsa fighting with stormy ocean, which leads to water or air element. Because of frostharmonic’s IG story I bet on air.

Disney Returns to Annecy with World Premiere of 3 New Shorts, ‘Frozen 2’ Presentation

Studio to debut Short Circuit experimental program’s ‘Just A Thought,’ ’Exchange Student,’ and ‘Jing Hua’ along with special inside look at highly anticipated upcoming ‘Frozen’ sequel.

BURBANK -- In what has become an annual tradition at Annecy International Animated Film Festival, Walt Disney Animation Studios (WDAS) returns with a Bonlieu Theater presentation showcasing the Studios’ latest projects, presented by the filmmakers themselves. On Friday, June 14, head of animation Becky Bresee and head of effects animation Marlon West take to the stage to give an inside look at the making of Frozen 2, and the directors of three new shorts - Just A Thought, directed by Brian Menz, Exchange Student, directed by Natalie Nourigat and Jing Hua, directed by Jerry Huynh - present their shorts in world premiere screenings at Annecy.

The shorts are part of Short Circuit, the Studios’ experimental program that began in 2016 where anyone at Walt Disney Animation Studios can pitch an idea and potentially be selected to create an original short film with the support of the Studio and their fellow artists. The goal of this innovative program is to take risks in both visual style and story, surface new voices at the Studio and experiment with new technical innovation. The program has so far given 20 Disney Animation artists the opportunity to create their own short, most averaging 2:00 minutes in length. Last year’s award-winning Disney Animation VR short, Cycles, directed by Jeff Gipson, was created within the Short Circuit program as well. The short films within Short Circuit will be available Spring of 2020 on Disney+ in the U.S., Disney’s upcoming direct-to-consumer streaming service.

REBECCA WILSON BRESEE (Head of Animation, Frozen 2)

As an animation supervisor on 2013’s Frozen, Bresee worked with her team of animators to achieve the best possible character performances. Bresee worked with the animation team as an animation supervisor on Frozen to achieve the best possible character performances. She paid special attention to Anna, ensuring that the performance reflected the character’s optimistic and fearless personality. Her role on Frozen 2 as co-head of animation, partnering with Tony Smeed, is a bit different as she helps to oversee more than just that character. Her additional responsibilities have not changed her love for Anna and she is so glad to revisit her friend on this film!

Bresee joined Walt Disney Animation Studios in 1996. She has worked as an animator on a host of feature films including Dinosaur, Treasure Planet, Chicken Little, Meet the Robinsons, Bolt, Tangled, Wreck-It Ralph, Big Hero Six, Zootopia and Moana. She loves all of the characters that she has had the chance to animate whether they are a puppy or a princess.

A native of Oneonta, New York, Bresee’s lifelong interest in art and passion for all things Disney inspired her to pursue a career in animation. Her love of Disney fairy tales is what started it all. She earned a degree in fine arts from Geneseo State in New York, and attended Sheridan College in Toronto, Canada for animation.

Bresee resides in Burbank, Calif., with her husband, John, and daughters Olivia and Evelyn.

MARLON WEST (Head of Effects Animation, Frozen 2)

News:

- Anna con un vestito color pesca (arancione/crema);
- Un nuovo personaggio vestito di verde con sullo scudo un fiore (che sia lui Matthias? sarà un villain? pare che sia il personaggio doppiato da Sterling K. Browns che è il cattivo come già detto);
- un cavallo assieme ad Elsa. Pare che l'animale abbia un forte legame con Elsa, ma lei non ne è la creatrice;

Dal sito The Hollywood Reporter:

Idina Menzel Talks "Badass," "Superhero" Power of 'Frozen 2'

The singer-actress offered a preview of the highly anticipated sequel when she spoke to The Hollywood Reporter at an event honoring 'Wicked' composer Stephen Schwartz.
Singer and actress Idina Menzel offered a preview of the highly anticipated sequel to Frozen when she spoke to The Hollywood Reporter at an event honoring Wicked composer Stephen Schwartz on Thursday night in L.A.

“It's a real girl power, badass kind of superhero type of movie. They're really strong, the two sisters, and it's exciting. The music is beautiful,” Menzel told THR of the script for Frozen 2, which is set to hit theaters Nov. 22, with another story of regal sisters Anna (voiced by Kristen Bell) and Elsa (voiced by Menzel) in the Norwegian world of Arendelle.

Likewise, Menzel thinks the Broadway smash musical Wicked, in which she originated the role of Elphaba in 2003, is more relevant now than ever, because of the focus on women realizing their potential.

“It resonates even more today considering that it's a story that is about women finding what makes them extremely powerful and beautiful in their life. It's about not compromising who you are. It's about taking that thing that makes you so powerful and harnessing it and using it to change the world for the better,” she told THR at “An Evening of Wicked Fun Honoring Stephen Schwartz” at the Wallis Annenberg Center for the Performing Arts in Beverly Hills.

“Elsa, Elphaba, they're young women that are afraid of their incredible power and then learn a way to harness that,” Menzel added. She later thanked Schwartz on stage for embracing “the power and beauty of fierce, incredible women…not apologizing for who you are, especially in this time we’re in.”

Schwartz told THR that “because unfortunately bad things are happening in our country,” the Wizard of Oz-inspired world of Wicked has tied into contemporary politics and the contemporary “social situation.”

“Unfortunately the world is closer to the world of Wicked. The sort of spin and fake news and manipulation of the media, that are part of what the wizard and his henchpeople do in Wicked, has become more and more aggravated in our current world. I wish it were less relevant, not more,” Schawartz told THR. “The point of recognizing what's wrong and maybe where we've taken a wrong turn is that you can fix it. So I hope we will."

The composer of Pippin, Godspell and Wicked is in the midst of working on the film adaptation of Wicked, set to bow in 2021 from Universal. Schwartz said they’re still getting the script ready “but the process is heating up,” as they’re starting to talk about casting. Director Stephen Daldry — who directed The Reader and executive produces The Crown — has been meeting with production designers.

Schwartz is eager to tell the story cinematically, "to be able to do things that we thought about when we were doing the show, but of course we couldn't do," he said. "And it's been wonderful for my collaboration...Winnie Holzman and myself to be back in that world and back with those characters we love and think about 'How do you tell that story as a movie?'” (And is Menzel involved in the film adaptation? "No, not really," she laughed).

The evening commenced with a dinner reception by Wolfgang Puck followed by performances by Menzel, Megan Hilty (Wicked), Liz Callaway (Anastasia), Jordan Fisher (Rent: Live), Isaiah Johnson (Hamilton), Andrea Martin (Pippin) and opera singer Angel Blue.

Before singing “Defying Gravity” and “For Good,” Menzel continued the praise of Schwartz on stage, saying being in Wicked “changed the trajectory of my life and changed everything about me.”

The singer said she’s proud to be forever associated with Elphaba, the Wicked Witch of the West. “When you get to grow up with something…your whole life a certain character…she keeps changing you.… I felt like you saw me,” Menzel said. She added that playing the role was “the greatest privilege of my life."

Producer of upcoming films Wicked, Aladdin and Legally Blonde 3, Marc Platt took the stage to honor Schwartz. “Stephen Schwartz is indeed a man of all good gifts. The gift of melody and music, the gift of poetry and prose, but as you heard all night long, his most beautiful gift is a very singular generosity of spirit,” Platt told the Annenberg crowd. "His lasting legacy has been vital to the evolution of the American musical."

Schwartz closed out the show by singing and accompanying himself on piano for “Can You Imagine That?” from his forthcoming Hans Christian Andersen musical.
