Movie News
Disney's Matterhorn Ride Heading for the Big Screen Source: Heat Vision June 30, 2011 Heat Vision reports that Walt Disney Pictures is developing an adventure movie based on Disneyland's Matterhorn ride (AKA "Matterhorn Bobsleds"). The project has the working title of The Hill. The studio has hired Jason Dean Hall to write the script for the film, to be produced by Justin Springer (TRON: Legacy, Prom). The trade describes the Fantasyland ride as follows: "Opened June 1959, the elaborate ride was inspired by Walt Disney's desire for a toboggan-themed roller coaster as well as thoughts he had after an extended trip to Switzerland, the site of the famed mountain. The ride, a centerpiece of the park, was refurbished in 1978, with one of the upgrades being the addition of three automatronic Abominable Snowmen (aka Yetis) who growl at riders." They add that in the movie, five young adventure seekers are mysteriously called to the top of the mountain and encounter Yetis on the journey down.

Brian Beletic To Direct Disney Film Inspired By Matterhorn EXCLUSIVE: Disney has set Brian Beletic, a hotshot commercials director, to make his feature helming debut on the untitled film that’s inspired by the theme park Matterhorn ride. The studio is calling the film its "Untitled Explorers Project". The logline: a small group of young, super adventure/explorers, each with a specific skill set, are brought to the remote backcountry of the Pennine Alps under various guises for a trek across one of the planet's remaining untouched realms. They do this with extreme skiing, snowboarding and mountaineering. Beletic is a co-founder of Smuggler and a top commercials director whose blurbs include Nike's 'Human Chain' spots and who has made videos with the likes of The Black Eyed Peas. Disney felt he could be its latest find after the studio gave starts to Tron: Legacy's Joseph Kosinski and The Muppets' James Bobin. Jason Dean Hall wrote the script and Justin Springer is producing. The studio has hired Brain Farm Cinema as production consultants. They created the extreme snowboarding film Art Of Flight. http://www.deadline.com/2012/01/brian-bele...eys-matterhorn/ Anche qui come per Maleficent hanno preso un esordiente...
The Hollywood Reporter
'Transformers' Writer Boards Disney Mountain Adventure Movie (Exclusive) Ehren Kruger will work on the project formerly associated with Disney's Matterhorn ride, while Brian Beletic is attached to direct. High-flying scribe Ehren Kruger, whose recent work includes Transformers: Dark of the Moon and Scream 4, has been tapped to work on Disney’s untitled explorers movie project. First-time feature director Brian Beletic is attached to helm the pic, whose first draft was written by Jason Dean Hall. Justin Springer (Tron Legacy, Prom) is producing the project. The story centers on five young adventure seekers -- an action sports guy, travel guide, cartographer, archeologist and escape artist -- who venture into the Alps for mysterious reasons and face Yetis that guard a secret. The project formerly was associated with the Matterhorn ride at Disneyland but its scope has since been broadened. The studio is hoping to keep part of the movie grounded in hardcore adventuring and has brought on Brain Farm Cinema, the boutique production house that is known for filming extreme sports, as production consultants. A scribe with a track record of getting films produced, Kruger's work ranges from The Ring horror movies to picking up where Kevin Williamson left off with Scream 3 and Scream 4, to working on Transformers tentpoles Revenge of the Fallen and Dark of the Moon.

Evviva, il film riprende vita per Disney+.
Da The Disinsider Exclusive: Disney Developing Matterhorn Bobsleds Based Feature Film For Disney+ When the Disneyland Resort opens on April 30th, the iconic snow-capped Matterhorn Bobsleds will remain closed for refurbishment. We can now report that the bobsled ride’s facelift is not the only Matterhorn project Disney is planning to reveal in the near future. According to our sources, the Walt Disney Company is developing a feature film for Disney+ based on the Matterhorn Bobsleds. The working title for the project is The Hill and Disney is currently in talks with writers for the film. This project has been in early development limbo for over a decade, but we can now report that the feature film is being developed for Disney’s flagship streaming service, Disney Plus. This leads to an important question, why now? If this project has been lingering for 10+ years, what sparked this renewed interest in a film based on a park attraction? According to sources, Disney was overwhelmed by the extremely positive feedback focus groups gave the upcoming Dwayne Johnson and Emily Blunt action comedy Jungle Cruise. While Disney was confident the film would be well-received, the test audiences confirmed that they have a potential blockbuster franchise on their hands. Giving Disney Pirates of the Caribbean vibes, rather than the less than successful theme park based films, like 2002’s Country Bears. Upcoming Jungle Cruise film received an overwhelmingly positive response from test audiences This has reenergized the Matterhorn project for Disney, as both films will be based on a Disneyland attraction. This also aligns with Disney’s stated goal of having over 100 new Disney+ projects annually. Disney is in the early stages of production for a number of Disneyland attraction themed films, which includes projects based on Space Mountain, it’s a small world, a Haunted Mansion remake, after the embarrassing Eddie Murphy flop, as well as the long rumored Night at the Museum styled Magic Kingdom film, and the recently announced Disney+ projects that are based on the Society of Explorers and Adventurers (SEA) found in various places throughout Disney’s theme parks. This upcoming Matterhorn feature is not the first movie based on the nearly 62 year-old tubular rollercoaster attraction. Four months after Matterhorn Bobsleds opened in Disneyland, Walt Disney Productions released Third Man on the Mountain, a film loosely based on the ride. You can find this 1959 coming of age, action-adventure film on Disney Plus. We will continue to track the progress of this upcoming feature, along with the rest of Disney’s theme park inspired films and series currently being planned and produced, here at The DisInsider. |
