Freeform Developing Drama Series About Grand Duchess Anastasia From McG

In a competitive situation, Freeform has bought an hourlong pitch from writers Daniel Mackey and Seth Fisher for McG to executive produce under his deal at the network, ABC Studios and ABC Signature.

The show takes on one of the biggest mysteries of the early 20th century, that of Grand Duchess Anastasia Nikolaevna Romanova of Russia. While she is believed to have been killed at age 17, along with her family, following the 1917 Bolshevik revolution, there have been rumors of Anastasia’s survival, with a number of young women coming forward, claiming — seemingly falsely — to be her.

Set in vibrant Paris during the roaring 1920’s, this reimagining follows Anastasia after her escape from Communist Russia. While her sights are set on avenging the death of her family, she joins forces with an elite espionage agency that’s working to prevent another world war. By day, Anastasia is a former princess trying to blend into a normal life, but by night, she’s acting as the world’s first female spy, influencing some of the biggest events in the first part of the 20th century.

Mackey and Fisher executive produce alongside Wonderland’s McG and Mary Viola.

Fisher recently won a 2016 WGA award for NatGeo’s miniseries Saints & Strangers, while Mackey was hired by Lionsgate to adapt the female-centric YA book franchise Seth FisherDan MackeyBlackbird. As a writing team, the two previously developed a half-hour comedy with John Krasinski at TBS.

McG executive produces and directed the pilot for Freeform’s drama series Shadowhunters. He just finished production of New Line’s The Babysitter and is developing Masters of the Universe at Sony Pictures. In TV, he also is directing and executive producing the Fox/Warner Bros. TV pilot Lethal Weapon, a remake of the hit movie franchise.

In addition to Shadowhunters, Wonderland’s roster of series includes Supernatural and The Mysteries of Laura.

McG is repped by WME, Management 360, and Sloane Offer Weber and Dern. Mackey is repped by Paradigm, Circle of Confusion, and Derek Kroeger. Fisher is repped by Paradigm, Aperture Entertainment and attorney Tara Kole.

Freeform si è aggiudicata i diritti per una potenziale serie ideata da Daniel Mackey e Seth Fisher dedicata al mistero riguardante la Granduchessa Anastasia. Il progetto può inoltre contare sulla produzione esecutiva di McG.

Lo show racconterà la storia della quartogenita dell’imperatore Nicola II di Russia e dell’imperatrice Alessandra che è stata uccisa quando aveva 17 anni insieme alla sua famiglia. Nel corso degli anni si suppose che la ragazza fosse riuscita a sopravvivere e molte giovani hanno sostenuto di essere lei.

Gli episodi saranno ambientati a Parigi negli anni Venti e mostrerà Anastasia dopo la sua fuga dalla Russia. La ragazza decide di entrare a far parte di un’agenzia di spionaggio con lo scopo di vendicare la morte della sua famiglia ed evitare lo scoppio di un’altra guerra mondiale.
Anastasia, inoltre, cercherà di adattarsi a una vita normale di giorno, mentre la sera sarà una delle prime spie donne e avrà un ruolo importante in alcuni dei più importanti eventi storici.
