Da The Disinsider

Mulan’ Expected to Find a New Theatrical Release Date

It looks like Disney Studios highly anticipated live-action reimagining of Mulan may have to find itself a new theatrical release as coronavirus cases surge across the nation.

Another huge country Disney hopes to draw in for Mulan is China, who is also experiencing a resurgence in coronavirus cases.

Now, as far as I’ve been told by studio reps, Mulan is expected to move, but an official decision will likely come later this week. That said, I was also told that they plan on keeping this film a theatrical release and that they have no plans for VOD/Disney+ drop. This is something Disney has been sticking by since Mulan was forced to move off its original March 27 release. Not to mention Disney already has early plans for a Mulan sequel, which depends on the financial success of this film, which would only be achieved on the big screen.

According to some insiders, the studio also isn’t too keen on “to have their movie be the first big new release in theaters.” Also, there is an uncertainty that theaters across the nation will open in time for a Mulan release. I would imagine Disney would look at a December release, which has proved to be successful for Star Wars and the newest Jumanji franchise. [...]

'Mulan' Late July Release Date in Jeopardy

The live-action feature is directed by Niki Caro.

Disney's release of the live-action Mulan on July 24 is in serious jeopardy as COVID-19 cases surge in a number of states across the U.S., sources tell The Hollywood Reporter.

Hollywood is increasingly concerned that the late summer tentpole will have to give up its date and relocate to safer shores. It remains to be seen whether Warner Bros.' fellow event pic Tenet will stick to its July 31 date.

Both movies need theaters in Los Angeles and New York City to be open, since they are the two largest moviegoing markets in the country. New York and L.A. are both a concern, however.

Tenet was initially set to open on July 17, making it the first Hollywood tentpole to hit the big screen following theaters reopening after having to go dark in mid-March due to the novel coronavirus pandemic. When it became clear that cinemas might have a tough time making that date, Tenet moved to July 31.

In the case of Mulan, there's also the matter of China, where there has likewise been a resurgence of COVID-19 cases.

Mulan — which was originally set for a March 27 release before the coronavirus pandemic hit — is directed by Niki Caro and stars Liu Yifei as the legendary female warrior.

This past spring, Mulan was among a number of tentpoles that were delayed as U.S. theater chains closed their doors due to COVID-19.

Ennesima ricollocazione del film. Nuova uscita: 21 agosto 2020.

Disney Delays 'Mulan' Release to Late August Due to Ongoing Pandemic

The shift came after Warner Bros. likewise moved fellow summer tentpole 'Tenet' out of July.

Disney is once again delaying the release of Mulan due to the ongoing novel coronavirus pandemic. The tentpole will now open on Aug. 21.

Director Niki Caro's live-action adaptation of the classic animated pic had been set to hit theaters on July 24, but with cases of COVID-19 surging again in California and a handful of other states, Disney's plans have changed. The company is also delaying next month's planned reopening of Disneyland in Anaheim.

“While the pandemic has changed our release plans for Mulan and we will continue to be flexible as conditions require, it has not changed our belief in the power of this film and its message of hope and perseverance. Director Niki Caro and our cast and crew have created a beautiful, epic, and moving film that is everything the cinematic experience should be, and that’s where we believe it belongs – on the world stage and the big screen for audiences around the globe to enjoy together,” said Alan Horn and Alan Bergman, co-chairman of Walt Disney studios (Horn is also chief creative officer).

The Mulan shift followed Thursday's announcement that Warner Bros. is likewise delaying tentpole Tenet again, this time from July 31 to Aug. 12.

Mulan was first supposed to open on March 27 in North America and much of the rest of the world, including China, but saw its release date shifted to late July after theaters across the world went dark in mid-March.

Caro directed the feature that stars Crystal Liu as Mulan, a woman who disguises herself as a man to spare her elderly father from military service.

As it stood, Mulan would have been the first new Hollywood studio tentpole to hit the big screen once theaters reopened. Those reopening plans are now in doubt.

The Mulan and Tenet shifts were among a handful of release date changes announced late this week as Hollywood continues to grapple with the pandemic. On Friday, Paramount and Skydance said they were pushing back the release of the Tom Clancy adaptation Without Remorse from Oct. 2 to Feb. 26, 2021, while United Artists Releasing is delaying the opening of Bill & Ted Face the Music from Aug. 14 to Aug. 28.

Da BadTaste

Tenet e Mulan potrebbero slittare a settembre, The Conjuring 3 verrà quasi certamente rimandato al 2021

Mulan Star Under Fire for Celebrating Hong Kong's Return to 'Motherland'

Donnie Yen, star of Disney's upcoming Mulan, was recently criticized for a celebratory post in which he praised Hong Kong's handover to China.

A second face has been added beside that of Mulan star Liu Yifei's in the growing #BoycottMulan movement: that of Liu's co-star, Donnie Yen, who is set to appear as Commander Tung in Disney's upcoming live-action remake.

Controversy surrounding the Chinese-born actor and martial artist stems from a recent post on Yen's Facebook page, celebrating July 1, Hong Kong's handover day. The actor wrote, "Today is the celebration day for Hong Kong returned to motherland China 23 years [sic]." He then recalled performing for Chairman Xi Jinping of the Chinese Communist Party in 2017, calling it a "memorable night."

Hong Kong observes the city's Establishment Day, marking the anniversary of the July 1 handover, when sovereignty over the region was transferred from the United Kingdom to the People's Republic of China, as agreed in the Sino-British Joint Declaration.

Yen's post and seemingly positive stance toward Xi Jinping has caused outrage in and around Hong Kong, where a national security law has been imposed by China, restricting the people's democratic rights -- which were promised to them in the Joint Declaration -- and conflicting with the special administrative region's own mini-constitution, the Basic Law. This follows more than a year of large-scale pro-democracy protests.

The #BoycottMulan movement began in Hong Kong after it was revealed that star Liu Yifei had expressed support for the Hong Kong Police Force and the often-brutal tactics it had employed on both peaceful protesters, journalists, medics and innocent bystanders. The movement has continued to grow around South East Asia in countries including South Korea and Thailand.

Directed by Niki Caro, Disney's Mulan stars Yifei Liu as Mulan, Donnie Yen as Commander Tung, Jason Scott Lee as Böri Khan and Yoson An as Cheng Honghui, with Gong Li as Xianniang and Jet Li as the Emperor. The film is currently scheduled to arrive in theaters August 21.

Dal sito ComicBook:

Disney's Live-Action Mulan Reveals Japanese Dub Cast

Although it was originally slated for a wide release in the Spring, Disney's live-action Mulan is currently gearing up for a late Summer and Fall release with new additions to the Japanese dub of the film. Initially scheduled for a release earlier this March, Disney's live-action take on Mulan has been offset by a number of unforeseen issues brought on by the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic. As a result of numerous release date shifts, now the film is currently scheduled to release in August in the United States and a September 4th release in Japan.

Japan's theaters have begun to re-open as part of a new phase of softening the social distancing measures after the country lifted its state of emergency back in May, and thus the Japanese release is moving forward. Part of this is the announcement of some of the new cast additions bringing the Japanese version of the film to life.

As reported by Anime! Anime!, the supporting cast for the Japanese dub of Disney's live-action Mulan has been set with a few actors that anime fans are sure to recognize right away. These new additions include Yoshimasa Hosoya (Reiner Braun in Attack on Titan, Joe in Megalobox) will be dubbing Chen Honghui, an original character created for the new film as the new love interest in the film (rather than Li Shen, as seen in the original animated film).

Subaru Kimura (Takeshi Goda in Doraemon, Pesci in JoJo's Bizarre Adventure: Golden Wind Pesci) will be voicing Yao, Tasuku Hatanaka (Yu-Gi-Oh! Zexal's Yuma Tsukumo, Ushio and Tora's Ushio Aotsuki) as Ling, Hiroki Yasumoto (Chad Sato in Bleach, One-Punch Man's King) as Chien Po, and with Kensho Ono (Giorno Giovnanna in JoJo's Bizarre Adventure: Golden Wind, Tetsuya Kuroko in Kuroko's Basketball) as an archer named Cricket.

Disney's live-action Mulan is currently slated for a release in Japanese theaters on September 4th, but as fans have come to find out from the events of the past few months, this schedule is subject to change. But at least with these announced additions to the cast the Japanese release is moving forward as planned. Now it's gotten a boost from several anime veterans from JoJo's Bizarre Adventure, Attack on Titan and more!

What do you think of these initial additions to Mulan's Japanese dub cast? Excited to see the new live-action adaptation for yourself? What did you think of the original animated film? Let us know your thoughts in the comments, or you can even reach out to me directly about all things animated and other cool stuff @Valdezology on Twitter!

L'attrice scelta pero' mi sembra perfetta come Mulan

News:

Mulan uscirà direttamente su Disney + dal 4 settembre 2020. Per vederlo però bisognerà pagare $29.99 in più rispetto all'abbonamento base.

Dal sito WDWNT:

BREAKING: Disney’s Live-Action “Mulan” to be Released on Disney+ for $29.99

Disney has announced that the live-action Mulan will be coming to Disney+ on a “premium basis”, charging subscribers $29.99 for viewing access.

The film will be available starting September 4 . Pricing will vary slightly in other countries, and theatrical releases will be available based on local health and safety guidelines in certain areas.

Mulan was originally scheduled for release on March 27. Disney then delayed it to July 24 and then August 21 before delaying the release indefinitely prior to this announcement.

Commento: noi avremmo messo Mulan a maggio 2021 e spostato Cruella su Disney+.
