Barbie: Amy Schumer spiega il suo addio al film

Quando Amy Schumer annunciò il suo addio al film di Barbie nel 2017 aveva dato la seguente motivazione:
Purtroppo non potrò più lavorare al film di Barbie a causa di conflitti con altri impegni. Il film prometteva davvero bene, la Sony e la Mattel sono stati dei grandissimi partner. Mi dispiace, ma non vedo l’ora di vedere Barbie sul grande schermo.
In una recente intervista con THR l’attrice ha rivelato ulteriori dettagli:
Quel che è certo è che non intendevano realizzarlo come lo volevo io, che era l’unico modo con cui l’avrei fatto.
Schumer aveva scritto il film su una Barbie inventrice. Lo studio voleva che la sua Barbie inventasse un tacco alto fatto di gelatina e il conflitto di visioni avrebbe dovuto essere chiaro quando lo studio le mandò un paio di Manolo Blahniks per celebrare il loro film:

L’idea che sia quello che le donne vogliono avrebbe dovuto farmi dire: “Avete sbagliato ragazza”.
Il film ha subito diversi rimaneggiamenti nel corso del tempo, passando poi dalla Sony alla Warner Bros. e su una sceneggiatura di Noah Baumbach e Greta Gerwig e la regia di quest’ultima.
Nel cast di Barbie ci saranno Margot Robbie, Ryan Gosling, Simu Liu e America Ferrera.

La pellicola sarà la prima a essere prodotta dalla Mattel Films, guidata dalla produttrice Robbie Brenner. Robbie sarà produttrice assieme a Tom Ackerley attraverso la sua LuckyChap Entertainment, anche David Heyman figurerà tra i produttori.

UK shoot begins on Margot Robbie’s Barbie

Filming is underway at Warner Bros. Studios Leavesden on Barbie, a live-action feature based on the iconic Mattel doll and her world. Margot Robbie plays the lead role.

Margot Robbie also produces under her LuckyChap Entertainment banner; the film is a co-production with Heyday Films, Warner Bros. and Mattel Films.

Greta Gerwig is in the director’s chair, calling the shots from a screenplay she co-wrote with Noah Baumbach.

Ryan Gosling plays Ken, leading a starry supporting cast including America Ferrera, Kate McKinnon and Simu Liu. Variety recently reported exclusively that Alexandra Shipp had also joined the cast.

In an interview with British Vogue last summer, Robbie said of the project: “… it comes with a lot of baggage … and a lot of nostalgic connections. But with that come a lot of exciting ways to attack it.

“People generally hear ‘Barbie’ and think, ‘I know what that movie is going to be,’ and then they hear that Greta Gerwig is writing and directing it, and they’re like, ‘Oh, well, maybe I don’t…’”

Interessante il nuovo cast, qualche ruolo potrei supporlo, mi chiedo chi sarà la McKinnon, nota per i ruoli comici ma potrebbe essere la cattiva. Contento che il film sia finalmente partito con le riprese, sono troppo curioso di sapere cosa ne verrà fuori.

Will Ferrell Joins Margot Robbie in Greta Gerwig’s ‘Barbie’

Ryan Gosling, Simu Liu and Kate McKinnon are already on board the Warner Bros. movie.

Will Ferrell has closed a deal to join Margot Robbie in Barbie, Warner Bros.’ all-star take on the Mattel toy icon.

Robbie is portraying the fashion forward doll, topping a call sheet whose names range from Ryan Gosling and Simu Liu to Kate McKinnon and Alexandra Shipp to Emma Mackey and America Ferrera.

Greta Gerwig and Noah Baumbach wrote the script for the project, with Gerwig directing. Production is already underway.

Plot details are being kept in a Malibu dreamhouse, but sources indicate that there is a meta aspect to the proceedings. Ferrell is said to be playing the CEO of a toy company that may or not be Mattel.

On top of acting, Robbie is producing the project via her LuckyChap banner alongside LuckyChap’s Tom Ackerley. Mattel Films’ Robbie Brenner and Paddington producer David Heyman are also producing.

Barbie will mark Ferrell’s first feature outing since 2020’s Eurovision Song Contest: The Story of Fire Saga, made by Netflix. He recently appeared in Apple TV’s black comedy, The Shrink Next Door, with Paul Rudd.

He is repped by UTA, Mosaic and Jackoway Austen.

Ovviamente hanno ben chiara l'incredibile somiglianza tra le due attrici, essendo un film meta ho anche pensato a due Barbie alternative, per giocare sul fattore "riproduzione standard", tipo Barbie sposa, Barbie pilota, Barbie dottoressa ecc.ecc., ci sarà qualche critica sociale, tipo The Stepford Wives/La donna perfetta. Magari una è la nemesi dell'altra. Fatto sta che questo casting incuriosisce parecchio.

Live-Action Barbie Movie Adds Michael Cera & Issa Rae to All-Star Cast

As production continues on the live-action Barbie movie in the United Kingdom, Warner Bros. Pictures continues to expand its already stacked cast with the addition of three new cast members. According to People Magazine, Emmy nominee Issa Rae (Insecure) and Michael Cera (Scott Pilgrim vs. the World) have signed on to join leading stars Margot Robbie and Ryan Gosling in the upcoming film adaptation of the iconic Mattel doll.

Meanwhile, Variety brings word that Transparent alum Hari Nef has also been cast for the film, which is set to arrive in theaters sometime next year. Further details about their characters are still being kept under wraps.

Un cast all star per questo film... ma noi ci chiediamo una cosa: i maschietti andranno a vedere Barbie? perché un cast all star può anche starci ma come soggetto Barbie ci sembra molto femminile e lontano da un'idea di film universale... non è una fiaba, non è una guerriera magica alla Sailor Moon, non è una supereroina... è Barbie e tale deve rimanere... e allora pensano che i ragazzi la vadano a vedere?
un conto erano i film Barbie Schiaccianoci, Raperonzolo, Lago dei Cigni, Principessa e la Povera, Principesse Danzanti, Castello di diamanti, la magia di Pegaso, Le Tre Moschettiere, ecc... ok ci stavano, erano prodotti da cassetta (pure buoni) destinati ai ragazzini e riprendevano storie per tutti, quindi anche i maschietti li vedevano senza problemi... ma un film su Barbie la bambola pensate che la vedano?
crediamo che la gran parte dei maschi non lo vada a vedere...

non pensiamo facciano un film alla Titanic (esempio indubbiamente esagerato e voluto per far capire il pensiero) che spingerà nelle sale TUTTI, indifferentemente dal genere , per vedere Barbie... auguriamo che possano riuscire a fare un miracolo e portare al cinema anche i maschi... ma la vediamo dura, forse in streaming ha più possibilità

Innanzitutto alla fine per me sceglieranno un titolo più neutro, tipo Dreamhouse; secondo, il cast si sta arricchendo sempre più di volti e nomi diversificati. Questo film non sarà nulla di quello che ci aspettiamo, sarà un film corale e un pò indie secondo me, tipo i film di Paul Thomas Anderson.

questo film sta mettendo assieme tutto un cast all star come avevano detto... abbiamo letto alcune critiche secondo cui la gente non comprende perché tutti questi attori famosi vogliono fare un film per bambini di 2 anni... magari forse non è proprio per bambini ma sarà qualcosa più trasversale?
a dire il vero, speriamo sia bello...

Che tristezza vedere Barbie associata ai bambini dell'asilo...
E pensare che Ruth Hundler l'aveva creata per le ragazzine dai 9 ai 14 anni, che cominciavano a immaginare la loro vita da adulte
Purtroppo quando negli anni 80 Mattel introdusse il modello "La Mia Prima Barbie" pensata per le bambine piccole, si cominciò a pensare che Barbie fosse adatta anche ai più piccini, da allora il target si è abbassato sempre di più fino ad oggi, che è considerata per i bambini dai 3 ai 6 anni, infatti attualmente la bambola ha perso il corpo formoso da donna adulta e il viso perfettamente truccato in favore di un fisico da ragazzina e un viso infantile
le Barbie di oggi sono noiose, abiti orrendi e per nulla alla moda, qualità pessima
Spero che usino questo film come reboot del brand, che porti alla creazione di nuove bambole di qualità e curate nei dettagli, dove Barbie torna ad avere il corpo adulto degli anni 2000 e un nuovo viso ispirato a Margot Robbie

Simu Liu Chose Margot Robbie’s ‘Barbie’ After an Agent Said It’s One of the Best Scripts Ever

Simu Liu knew almost nothing about Greta Gerwig and Margot Robbie’s “Barbie” when he agreed to audition for a role in the movie. So why did the “Shang-Chi” actor decide to throw his name into the casting ring? It turns out a junior agent at Liu’s management customer convinced the actor to give “Barbie” a go after telling the actor that the film’s script was one of the best he’s ever read.

“He literally said this verbatim,” Liu recently told GQ UK. “He was like, ‘If I could stake my career on any one script, it’s the ‘Barbie’ script. I really think you should do it.’”

Liu sent in a self-tape audition, which led Gerwig to request an in-person meeting where she talked about “how much she loved watching men dance, because it’s such an expression of artistry you’re not used to seeing from typical men.” Liu, wanting to nab a role in the film, told the filmmaker about his dance history with a competitive hip-hop team.

“She audibly guffawed, she giggle-screamed — and then I got the part,” Liu said.

Liu described “Barbie” as “wild” and “incredibly unique,” adding, “I wish I could just show you what we do day-to-day because it’s crazy.” The film is not a musical, but Liu said he’s been in dance rehearsals aplenty for the movie. The actor also teased what it’s like working on a “Greta Gerwig” set.

“When you’re doing a scene and it’s working, you hear, ‘HAHAHAHA!’ It’s the best feeling in the world,” Liu said. “If you’re an asshole on a Greta Gerwig set, there’s no hope for you.”

Warner Brothers has a lot of exciting films coming in the near future. One of those films being Greta Gerwig’s Barbie starring Margot Robbie in the title role. Fans just got the first look at Robbie in character at CinemaCon last month, but now it appears that Robbie is not the only Barbie in town.

According to Kyle Buchanan of the New York Times, he learned at Cannes that Issa Rae and Hari Nef will also be playing different versions of Barbie. However, that’s not all as the same thing goes for Ryan Gosling’s Ken. Buchanan says that Simu Liu and Ncuti Gatwa will be playing different versions of Ken as well.

So why could this be? Are we all playing Barbie and Ken? Are fans in for a Barbie multiverse? As hilarious as that may be, that seems unlikely. What this development could tell us is that Robbie’s Barbie might be in for an identity crisis as she starts to realize that she is not the only Barbie in the universe. This news, as absurdly funny as it may initially sound, actually makes sense when you think about it. The Barbie brand has been around for over 60 years and is not restricted to just one doll. There have been many dolls over the years that have celebrated people of all different shapes, sizes, genders, and ethnicities. This is on brand for Barbie and the same goes for Ken. It is going to be very exciting to finally find out the exact details of Barbie’s plot, but for now, just hearing that there will be multiple Barbies and Kens partying has endless potential.

Esattamente come ho previsto e scritto qui. Sarà un film di critica sociale, sul concetto della standardizzazione, e mi sembra piuttosto coerente con la mitologia di Barbie e delle mille variazioni e professioni. E' un film festivaliero e per non "ingannare" il pubblico dei piccini, sarebbe bene titolarlo diversamente. Dreamhouse o Dreamdoll mi sembrano perfetti e neutri.

ci è comunque difficile capire l'idea del film in sé... non vorremmo fosse una roba alla Corsage (il film in uscita sulla principessa Sissi che è tanto autoriale che presenta addirittura sequenze in cui pare di vedere una sorta di Alice nel paese delle meraviglie con Sissi di dimensioni enormi rispetto alla stanza circostante - tant'è che batte la testa al soffitto e i tavoli e le porte sono piccolissimi - o di dimensioni ridottissime, sequenza che comunque è riferita alla dimensione intima di Sissi va detto...)
ecco storie così autoriali per un film intitolato Barbie ci lascia perplessi... poi è vero che l'America non è la Germania e i film americani sono fruibili per un pubblico più vasto... vedremo come procederà
