New ‘Home Alone’ Movie At Disney+ Sets Leads: ‘Jojo Rabbit’s Archie Yates, Ellie Kemper, Rob Delaney

Disney+ is moving forward with its fresh take on Home Alone, the hit 20th Century Fox franchise that now is owned by Disney after its takeover of Fox. Deadline has confirmed that Archie Yates, currently onscreen in a supporting role in Fox Searchlight’s Jojo Rabbit, has been cast alongside Ellie Kemper and Rob Delaney in the film, which is set to begin shooting early next year in Canada.

Dan Mazer, whose directing credits include Dirty Grandpa and Sacha Baron Cohen’s Who Is America?, is helming, with the script by Mikey Day and Streeter Seidell. Hutch Parker and Dan Wilson are producers of the pic, which marks the first for the Fox team aimed at Disney’s just-launched streaming service.

News of a Home Alone project was first floated in August by Disney’s Bob Iger during the company’s third-quarter earnings call. He called out Home Alone, Night at the Museum, Diary of a Wimpy Kid and Cheaper by the Dozen as Fox library franchises that would see new life on Disney+.

The plot is unclear on the new Home Alone; at the time, Iger said only that the new movies will be “reimagined” for “a new generation.”

Da We Got This Covered

Macaulay Culkin May Return As Kevin McCallister In Home Alone Reboot

You can’t have missed the news that a new Home Alone is on its way. Disney has wasted no time after nabbing the franchise from Fox in producing another movie about a kid grievously injuring a bunch of idiotic criminals for their Disney Plus streaming service. Naturally, though, a generation of fans who grew up loving the original two films have criticized the studio for continuing the series without Macaulay Culkin. But it seems the actor may return, after all.
According to sources close to WGTC – the same ones who said Bill Murray would be back for Ghostbusters: Afterlife and Han is returning in Fast & Furious 9, both of which are now confirmed – Kevin McCallister will have a supporting role in the new Home Alone. From what we understand, the movie, which will apparently be a legacy sequel/reboot, will feature the adult Kevin as the owner of his own security firm and his link to the plot will come from new protagonist Max having his own home fitted with McCallister’s security system.

Right now, the studio is issuing a casting call for actors in their 40s to 50s to portray the part, but sources are saying that there’s a chance that they’ll just get Culkin back in the role. He did embody Kevin again for that Google ad a couple of Christmases ago, after all, and he often makes jokes about his Home Alone fame on social media. Clearly, he’s not trying to bury his connection to Kevin, but actually signing up for another flick is obviously a completely different ball game.
In any case, we know Disney’s Home Alone will star Jojo Rabbit‘s Archie Yates as Max, who’ll face off against a married couple of crooks when he accidentally steals something that belongs to them. This has yet to be confirmed, but it’s thought that Rob Delaney and Ellie Kemper are playing those two roles. And with filming due to begin soon, the pieces should all fall start to fall into place shortly, so be sure to watch this space for more.

Da Deadline

Disney+ ‘Home Alone’ Reboot Adds Kenan Thompson, Ally Maki And Chris Parnell

The cast of the Home Alone reboot is growing. Deadline has confirmed that Kenan Thompson (Saturday Night Live), Ally Maki (Toy Story 4) and Chris Parnell (Archer) are also part of the fresh take on the classic 20th Century Fox franchise at Disney+.

The trio of actors join previously announced cast members Archie Yates, Rob Delaney and Ellie Kemper. The reboot, which had already been cast and was filming when the coronavirus-related shutdown hit in mid-March, is being directed by Dan Mazer (Dirty Grandpa, Who Is America?). Its cast, revealed by the Disinsider, also features Aisling Bea, Pete Holmes, Timothy Simons, and Mikey Day, who co-wrote the script with Streeter Seidell. Hutch Parker and Dan Wilson serve as producers.

No logline has been released but the new Home Alone film is believed to follow a young boy (Yates) at war with a couple (Kemper, Delaney) over a stolen figurine.

The Home Alone redux was first teased last year when Disney’s Bob Iger said that it along with Fox library franchises Night at the Museum, Diary of a Wimpy Kid and Cheaper by the Dozen would see new life on Disney+.

The production has been on pause since the start of the pandemic. In addition to Home Alone, Disney has also halted productions of The Little Mermaid, The Last Duel, Nightmare Alley, and Peter Pan & Wendy and Shrunk.

Nel cast troveremo Archie Yates (Jojo Rabbit), Rob Delaney (Deadpool 2), Ellie Kemper (The Office), Ally Maki (Toy Story 4), Chris Parnell (Saturday Night Live), Aisling Bea (Living with Yourself), Pete Holmes (Crashing) e Timothy Simons (Veep).
