Jennifer Lee, who wrote, and co-directed “Frozen” with Chris Buck, has chosen her next project: “A Wrinkle in Time.”

Lee will write the bigscreen adaptation of Madeleine L’Engle’s book for Disney in which children travel through time and visit strange worlds in order to find their missing scientist father.

Published in 1962, “Wrinkle in Time” was one of Lee’s favorite novels as a child, and she impressed Disney executives with her take on the project, which emphasizes a strong female-driven narrative and creatively approaches the science fiction and world-building elements of the book.

While Lee adapts “A Wrinkle in Time,” she will continue in her role as part of Walt Disney Animation’s story trust and remain active in projects in development at the division that scored with “Frozen” — its biggest hit ever at the box office with nearly $1.3 billion — and has “Big Hero 6,” based on a Marvel property, out Nov. 7.

There is no director yet attached to “A Wrinkle in Time” that Jim Whitaker will produce with Catherine Hand.

Jeff Stockwell (“Bridge to Terabithia”) had initially tackled the screenplay when the project was first announced in 2010.

“A Wrinkle in Time” is the first book in L’Engle’s “Time Quartet” series that also includes “A Wind in the Door,” “Many Waters,” and “A Swiftly Tilting Planet.”

Whitaker most recently produced Disney’s “The Odd Life of Timothy Green.” His credits also include “American Gangster” and “Robin Hood.” Hand already had produced a “Wrinkle in Time” TV movie for ABC that aired in 2003.

Lee, who also co-wrote Disney’s “Wreck-It Ralph,” is repped by CAA and Code Entertainment.

1) "Cosmic" --> film sullo spazio/fantascientifico
2) Lee interessata a soggetti fantascientifici
=> Lee dirige "Cosmic 3000"

Ava DuVernay Set To Direct Disney’s ‘A Wrinkle In Time’; Script By ‘Frozen’s Jennifer Lee

EXCLUSIVE: Selma director Ava DuVernay has just been set by Disney to direct A Wrinkle In Time, an adaptation of the 1963 Newbery Medal-winning Madeleine L’Engle fantasy classic novel that has a script by Oscar-winning Frozen writer and co-director Jennifer Lee. Deadline revealed February 8 that DuVernay had been offered this film and was also in the mix at DreamWorks for Intelligent Life, a sci-fi thriller scripted by Colin Trevorrow and his Jurassic World collaborator Derek Connolly. DuVernay now has the offer on that film and is in negotiations on a pic that has 12 Years A Slave Oscar winner Lupita Nyong’o attached to a fable about a UN worker in a department designed to represent mankind if there was ever contact with aliens, who falls for a mystery woman who turns out to be one. That film is produced by Frank Marshall, Trevorrow and Big Beach principals Peter Saraf and Marc Turtletaub.

a wrinkle in timeIt is unclear which film will go first, but A Wrinkle in Time was first to close and it is the culmination of six months of courtship by Disney Motion Pictures president Sean Bailey and exec Tendo Nagenda. A Wrinkle In Time involves a young girl whose government scientist father has gone missing after working on a mysterious project called a tesseract, which involves being transported to a fifth dimension with mysterious inhabited planets. She takes part in a search for her father and sees some incredible creatures along the way.

It won an Oscar and drew much acclaim. Selma in turn was a big step up from The Middle Of Nowhere, a $200,000 budget feature that won her the Grand Jury Prize and Best Dramatic Director awards at Sundance 2012, and the John Cassavetes Award at the Independent Spirits Awards. She is repped by CAA and attorney Nina Shaw.

Casting Lead Roles in Disney’s ‘A Wrinkle in Time’

If you are a fan of sci-fi, then it is possible that you have already read “Wrinkle in Time”, written by Madeleine L’Engle. Now the 1963’s novel is set to be turned into a Disney movie! Here is a great opportunity for children to be cast in lead roles in the adaptation of the classic Wrinkle in Time. The movie will be directed by Ava DuVernay. The script for the Disney movie is being written by the screenwriter of the popular movie “Frozen”, Jennifer Lee. It is rumored that the movie will begin filming this fall.

About Wrinkle in Time

The classic book is the first part in the series that revolve around the O’Keefe and Thee Murray families. The story primarily focuses on an adolescent girl whose father is a government scientist. Thirteen-year old Meg is perceived as a troubled kid at school by both her classmates and her teachers. Her family, on the other hand, knows that she is capable of achieving great things. The drama in the book starts when her father disappears mysteriously. The book has won several awards like, Sequoyah Book Award, Lewis Carol Shelf Award, and Newbery Medal.

Description of the Roles

Disney is in search of children aged 5, 14 and 16 years to play the lead roles for the science fiction movie. Two of the roles are for mixed races while one is for ethnic minority. Read the role description below:

◾A young and extremely intelligent boy of 5 years who belongs to a mix race of Caucasian and African American descent. Apart from being a genius, the boy has the ability of articulating as well. He is a strong lad who gets hypersensitive at times. He is also possesses a loving and caring nature.

◾A 14 year old girl who belongs to a mixed ethnicity (Caucasian and African American). This girl is in one of the most difficult phases of her life. She is relentlessly searching for questions regarding life, trying to find a unique place in the world for herself and her family. Even though she is troubled, she is in the possession of great strengths that are trapped within her. She will learn to unlock her true potential and sets upon a quest searching for truth. Her intelligence will keep on driving her forward.

◾A 16 year old lad who belongs to an ethnic minority. This robust kid is handsome and caring. He befriends the aforementioned kids.

It is evident from the description of the roles that they are meant for the protagonist Meg, her younger brother Charles and a friend called Calvin. In the earlier version that was made for televisions in 2003, all of these characters were played by white actors. However, this time Ava DuVernay will be doing a “color blind casting”. No prior acting experience is mandatory to be cast for these roles.
