Da The Illuminerdi

DISNEY’S PETER PAN AND WENDY HAS FOUND ITS TIGER LILY IN ALYSSA ALOOK: EXCLUSIVE

The live-action adaptation of Disney’s Peter Pan (currently titled Peter Pan and Wendy) is ramping up its casting. In recent weeks, announcements of Jude Law and Yara Shahidi’s casting as Captain Hook and Tinker Bell respectively made the rounds online. Now it appears that Disney has found their Tiger Lily as well.

The latest live-action remake set for a Disney+ release was originally to begin filming in April of this year, but those plans were ultimately delayed due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Production is currently scheduled to be picked up in March of 2021.

The Illuminerdi can report that Disney is eyeing Alyssa Alook (full name Alyssa Wapanatâhk) to play the role. Alook is an newcomer to the industry, an indigenous actress whose body of work thus far consists of a few short films from the last two years. If finalized, her casting in Peter Pan and Wendy will mark her feature film debut.

The latest live-action update to the J.M. Barrie classic will be directed by David Lowery (Pete’s Dragon) with a script by Lowery and Toby Halbrooks. The movie stars the aforementioned Jude Law and Yara Shahidi, along with Alexander Molony as Peter Pan, and Ever Anderson as Wendy. The film is set to be released on Disney+.

Disney Mulling Pivot Of ‘Pinocchio’, ‘Peter Pan’, ‘Cruella’ From Theatrical To Disney+ Premieres

EXCLUSIVE: No final decision has been made, but Deadline hears that the uncertainty of the future theatrical marketplace has Disney looking at launching a number of its upcoming tentpole family films on Disney+ instead of the theatrical release bows that were envisioned when the films were developed and green lit. At this point, the films being discussed to make that pivot are Cruella, the Craig Gillespie-directed live-action re-imaging of the animated classic that stars Emma Stone and Emma Thompson; the Robert Zemeckis-directed Pinocchio that has Tom Hanks starring; and Peter Pan and Wendy, the David Lowery-directed film that has Grown-ish star Yara Shahidi set to play Tinker Bell.

It isn’t clear at the moment whether the films will be offered free to Disney+ subscribers, as with the Pete Docter-directed Pixar film Soul, or for a premium charge as was done with Mulan. Still, it’s a bombshell development in the fast-changing theatrical/streaming landscape.

'Wonder Woman 1984' Going In Theaters & HBO Max On Christmas Day, Unprecedented For A Superhero Tentpole
The studio is looking at every option, and everything is under consideration and contingency planning, as Disney makes plans to lean in heavily on its direct-to-consumer initiative and towards continuing to build the juggernaut Disney+, whose subscriber numbers brightened up a last quarter that would otherwise have been bleak because of the wallop that theme parks and live entertainment took from the COVID pandemic.

The direct-to-consumer segment has soared this year by 41%, per the most recently reported quarter. Disney+ subscriptions grew to a remarkable 73.7 million as of early October, helped by the Star Wars spinoff series The Mandalorian and the Disney+ PVOD release of Mulan.

While this is well behind the 195 million or so paying customers of Netflix, that rival had a mighty head start around the world. But the lightning quick growth of Disney+ is enough to make the corporation see the benefits of a direct-to-consumer content business. The payoff will come not only in the subscription fees, but also in the stock price, sources said.

Deadline’s reveal of Disney’s plans comes just after Warner Bros made the announcement that its sequel Wonder Woman 1984 will not wait out the pandemic, but rather will premiere simultaneously on the HBO Max streaming site along with theaters on Christmas Day. Putting a sequel to a smash hit DC title is reflective of a disruptive moment. Sources said that Disney will likely lean heavily into series generated from the Marvel, Lucasfilm and other silos, but at this point, it is keeping some of its plum titles for release when the theatrical market recovers. The Marvel film Black Widow with Scarlett Johansson is not being contemplated for a streaming bow, Deadline hears.

No comment from the studio.

Dal sito DeadLine:

Disney on December 10 will announce its upcoming slate. While the studio will solidify what Deadline revealed recently — that the Tom Hanks-starrer Pinocchio, Peter Pan and the Emma Stone-starrer Cruella will bypass movie theaters to become Disney+ releases — the studio will also announce new projects from Marvel, Lucasfilm and Pixar that will encompass TV as well as theatrical. It will be a gesture toward not abandoning the exhibitors.

Dal sito The Illuminerdi:

PETER PAN AND WENDY: NICK OFFERMAN OFFERED THE ROLE OF SMEE IN DISNEY’S LIVE-ACTION FILM: EXCLUSIVE

The live action Peter Pan film Peter Pan And Wendy has made an offer to the hilarious Nick Offerman to play the part of Smee, Captain Hook’s bumbling sidekick.

Peter Pan And Wendy has been in the works for years now, but with casting news and the official announcement that the film will premiere on Disney Plus, fans of the boy who never grows up have a lot to be excited about. Peter Pan And Wendy has added a number of impressive actors as well as some young newcomers and it looks like another impressive name has the opportunity to board The Jolly Roger.

NICK OFFERMAN OFFERED ROLE OF SMEE IN PETER PAN AND WENDY

Who would Captain Hook be without his trusty sidekick Smee? With Jude Law as Captain Hook in this live-action adaptation finding the right Smee is an important decision and it looks like Disney has their eye on a masterful comedian. The Illuminerdi has exclusively learned that Nick Offerman has been offered the role of Smee in Peter Pan And Wendy and he could be just the man for the job.

Mr. Smee is not the usual pirate. instead of cruel and sinister, he’s a loyal and funny man who is always there for his Captain. In Peter Pan And Wendy, Smee is described as a supporting character who is the faithful sidekick to the vengeful pirate Captain Hook, Smee brings hilarity to every situation he is in. This is an excellent personality to play against Captain Hook, a man who wants nothing more than to take his revenge on the boy who is responsible for the loss of his hand.

Nick Offerman has had an impressive career in comedy, but is probably best known for playing Ron Swanson on Parks & Recreation. Nick Offerman has appeared on a number of other series, both drama and comedy including Fargo, Bob’s Burgers, Brooklyn Nine Nine, Good Omens, and many more. Offerman has showcased his comedic abilities in a number of films including Hotel Transylvania 2, Sing, Heart Beats Loud, and more. What could be interesting is that Nick Offerman has experience as a fight choreographer in Chicago theater which could come in handy as a member of Captain Hook’s pirate crew.

Ncik Offerman also co-hosts a reality competition series, Making It, with his Parks & Recreation co-star Amy Poehler. Nick Offerman has an impressive range playing a number of different types of characters and he definitely has the ability to play a pirate with a kind streak. Offerman’s chemistry with Jude Law would probably be one of the most interesting dynamics to see should he join the cast.

PETER PAN AND WENDY CAST AND CREW

The kids in the cast are relative newcomers with Peter Pan being played by Alexander Molony and Wendy Darling being played by Ever Anderson. Anderson also plays a young Natasha in the long delayed Black Widow film which is scheduled for theatrical release May 7, 2021. Alyssa Alook aka Alyssa Wapanatâhk will play the daughter of the Native American chief, Tiger Lily.

Captain Hook will be played by Jude Law (Captain Marvel, Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes Of Grindewald) and Tinkerbell will be played by Yara Shahidi (Black-ish, Grown-ish). Walt Disney Studio’s Peter Pan And Wendy is co-written by David Lowery and Toby Halbrooks with Lowery directing the live-action adaptation. Lowery and Halbrooks have worked together before on another Disney live-action adaptation, Pete’s Dragon.

Peter Pan And Wendy will be based primarily on the 1953 Disney animated classic, Peter Pan. The story of a boy who can fly and never grows up. Peter brings the Darling children to his home in Neverland to live with him and his Lost Boys. Also, on the island are mermaids, pirates, and a Native American nation. Speaking of those pirates, Pan is relentlessly perused by the vindictive Captain Hook, along with the genial Smee and the rest of the crew. Pan is responsible for the loss of Hook’s hand and the pirate Captain is also being chased by the crocodile who ate said hand and wishes to finish the job.

Disney is continuing the trend of adapting their animated classics into live-action films and Peter Pan And Wendy could be one of the greats. A number of other live-action adaptations are coming as well including Pinocchio which will star Tom Hanks and premiere on Disney Plus, as well as The Little Mermaid, which is set for a theatrical release. The Little Mermaid announced their cast on Disney Investor Day on Disney’s Twitter. The Lion King and Aladdin, which were both great successes for the studio, are also getting follow up films with an Aladdin sequel and Lion King prequel in the works.

Peter Pan And Wendy is scheduled to begin filming in March 2021 and will premiere on Disney Plus.

Do you think Nick Offerman would make a good Smee? How do you think the dynamic between Nick Offerman and Jude Law would play? Are you excited about Peter Pan And Wendy? Leave your thoughts in the comments below or on our social media.

Ecco Spugna.

Da The Disinsider

Jim Gaffigan to Play Smee in ‘Peter Pan and Wendy’

Comedian Jim Gaffigan has signed on to play Captain Hook’s faithful pirate sidekick, Smee in the Disney+ live-action adaptation of Peter Pan, TheWrap has learned.
He will act alongside Jude Law as the legendary villain, Captain Hook. In contrast to Hook, Smee is not a threatening character, often providing the comic relief in the scenes featuring pirates. In makes sense, then, that a gifted comedian such as Gaffigan would be offered this role.

Peter Pan and Wendy will be directed by David Lowery, who also wrote the screenplay along with Toby Halbrooks. Lowery previously directed the remake of Pete’s Dragon, released in 2016. In addition to Jude Law, the cast will also include newcomer Alexander Molony and Ever Anderson (Black Widow) as the titular characters, respectively. Tinkerbell will be played by Yara Shahidi (Grown-ish) and Alyssa Alook will play Tiger Lily, who we revealed will play a pivotal role in the film.
Production will begin in March of 2021 in Vancouver, Canada. In fact, some of the cast recently arrived in Vancouver this week for a quick costume test. At the Disney Investor Day, it was revealed that this film will be releasing directly to Disney+ along with their live-action adaptation of Pinocchio.

Dal sito People:

Yara Shahidi Opens Up About Prepping to Play Tinker Bell in Disney's Live-Action Peter Pan

"It's been a really fun prep process," the actress said on Good Morning America

With a bit of faith, trust and a little pixie dust, Yara Shahidi is ready to become Tinker Bell!

While appearing virtually on Good Morning America Thursday morning, the 20-year-old actress opened up about how she is prepping for her role in the upcoming live-action remake of Disney's classic film, Peter Pan.

After a series of fan-made art was displayed for Shahidi to see during the early morning broadcast, the Grownish star told host Robin Roberts that the process of preparing to play the loveable fairy has been "fun and a bit absurd."

"I know my brother, who is my theoretical next door roomate, has heard me putting around my room trying to figure out, 'How does Tinker Bell walk? How does she land?' " the actress shared. "But it's been a really fun prep process."

"I've started the kind of motion capture of it all and we're just trying to figure out how we portray Tinker Bell and she's gonna be like five inches tall on-screen," Shahidi added. "But we've had a really fun time and preparation has ranged from running through lines to creating playlists."

Back in September, it was revealed that Shahidi would be taking a trip to Neverland when it was announced that the actress was set to star in Disney's upcoming remake, titled Peter Pan and Wendy.

The upcoming Disney film, directed by Pete's Dragon director David Lowery, will be a live-action version of the 1953 animated movie.

Shahidi posted about the news on Instagram at the time, sharing a photo of herself looking away from the camera while wearing a bright green V neck coat with a bejeweled purple turtleneck underneath.

"lettssssgooooo 🧚🏽‍♂️🧚🏽‍♂️🧚🏽‍♂️ #Tinkerbell," she captioned the shot.

In the upcoming feature, Shahidi joins Alexander Molony as Peter Pan, Ever Anderson as Wendy and Jude Law as Captain Hook.

Anderson, who also landed the role of a young Natasha Romanoff in Black Widow, is the 13-year-old daughter of Resident Evil actress Milla Jovovich and director Paul W. S. Anderson.

After news of Anderson's casting was made public, her famous mother shared a message detailing how "proud" she was of her daughter on Instagram.

"It was just announced in @variety that Ever plays the young Natasha Romanoff in Marvel's @black.widow movie in theaters this May 1st and also, after a worldwide search, she's been cast as Wendy in @disney's new live action Peter and Wendy movie!! We're so proud of our baby!" Jovovich wrote at the time.

Jovovich then recalled how her daughter always desired to go into the family business. "Ever has been wanting to act since she was 5 and she's put the time, focus and energy into making her dream come true!" she continued. "Congratulations Ever!!"
