Ovviamente...

Da Inside the Magic

Elsa doesn’t get a love interest in “Frozen 2”–here’s why that’s okay

Since “Frozen” rocked the box office world and the world of Disney with its unbridled success, there has been discussion about Elsa and a possible love interest for her, thanks to the song “Let it Go,” which some feel has a “coming out” theme to it.

And with the upcoming theatrical release of “Frozen 2,” the conversation is growing. But during the D23 Expo this past weekend, songwriters Robert Lopez and Kristen Anderson-Lopez say that the icy sequel to the 2013 box office smash will not include any love interest for Elsa, nor will it even address a story of love interest for Elsa.

“Like the first movie, Elsa is not just defined by a romantic interest,” said Kristen Anderson-Lopez. “That’s not a story that we wanted to tell at this point in time. What we really wanted to tell was if you have these powers, how do you grow and change and find your place in the world and find answers that haven’t been found before?”

But the inquiry into Elsa’s love life continues to be fueled by the teaser trailer released for the upcoming “Frozen 2” which show a new female and a new male character. Could one of them be Elsa’s new love interest?

Who is this mystery girl and who is the young man who is tossed into the air in a storm of autumn-colored leaves? Is one of them a possible love interest of Elsa’s?

The overwhelming response so far has been “no,” and that’s for a few reasons, the first being the insight shared by lyricists Robert and Kristen Anderson. But there are a few more things that seem to back up that response.

The young girl in the scene above seems to be a child, and she’s joined in the scene a few seconds later by a young boy. The two bear an amazing resemblance to a couple of people who already have Elsa’s heart: her parents. Take a look at the young girl and Elsa’s mother. Many think that the scene with the young girl and boy might be a flashback to when King Agnarr and Queen Iduna were younger. Perhaps it’s when they met.

From what we can gather, read and hear, it seems that the theme of “Frozen 2” might have more to do with the sisters’ search for their parents (maybe they didn’t perish after all), a search for the origin of Elsa’s powers or some other search for understanding and purpose. When talking about “Frozen 2,” the songwriting Andersons seemed to give a hint about the storyline of the film when they were quoted as saying “We’ve gone deeper into [Anna and Elsa’s] heads; we know their parents a lot better.”

'Frozen 2:' Meet the Actors Behind the Chilly Sequel's Characters

Queen Elsa, Anna, Kristoff, Olaf and some new faces will hit theaters on Nov. 29 for a second round of frosty adventures.

The icy world of Frozen will welcome some familiar faces and new names when its sequel hits theaters later this year.

On Nov. 29, Idina Menzel, Kristen Bell, Josh Gad and Jonathan Groff will return to voice the band of heroes from the first film. Also joining the original ensemble will be Sterling K. Brown and Evan Rachel Wood.

From Tony winners to the stars of Emmy-nominated shows, here are the actors lending their voices to Frozen 2.

Idina Menzel (Elsa)

After her performance as Elsa in 2013's Frozen, Idina Menzel returns to voice the ice queen once again.

Menzel sang the movie's hit "Let it Go," which won the Oscar for best original song and also won a Grammy at the 2015 ceremony.

A D23 presentation revealed Elsa singing part of a new ballad, "Into the Unknown," written by "Let It Go" composers Kristen Anderson-Lopez and Robert Lopez.

Since 2013, Menzel has continued to play Queen Elsa in multiple titles, including the TV miniseries Lego Frozen Northern Lights and Wreck-It Ralph sequel Ralph Breaks the Internet.

The actress can next be seen starring alongside Adam Sandler, Lakeith Stanfield and Judd Hirsch in A24's Uncut Gems.

Kristen Bell (Anna)

Anna, Queen Elsa's good-hearted, equally brave sister, also returns, of course. Bell will voice the young princess as she helps her sister learn the origin of her powers.

Since 2013, Bell has taken up multiple projects, including The Good Place, and returned to Veronica Mars as its titular mystery-solver. Bell also received a Golden Globe nomination for her work on The Good Place.

Like other Frozen castmembers, Bell reprised her role as Anna for video game Kingdom Hearts III, where she helps protagonists Sora, Donald and Goofy fight the the dark forces threatening Arendelle.

Jonathan Groff (Kristoff)

Groff will reprise his role as the charming outdoorsman who helped the royal sisters of Arendelle take back their kingdom in the first Frozen film.

Since Frozen hit the big screen in 2013, the actor has appeared in HBO's Looking, The Simpsons and two seasons of Netflix's crime series Mindhunter. Groff also lent his voice to Kingdom Hearts III.

He is slated to join Christian Borle and Tammy Blanchard in the Little Shop of Horrors revival hitting New York's Westside Theatre opening Oct. 17.

In Frozen 2, Kristoff and his trusty steed, Sven the reindeer, will accompany Elsa and Anna as they venture into the unknown to keep Arendelle safe from the threats of a mysterious force.

Josh Gad (Olaf)

The Disney film's very own jolly snowman will return to the big screen in November, with Josh Gad once again lending his voice-acting chops to the fantastical figure.

Since the first Frozen movie debuted in 2013, Gad has taken on a number of roles, including Chuck in The Angry Birds Movie, LeFou in the live-action Beauty and the Beast and Bailey in A Dog's Journey.

In Frozen 2, Gad's Olaf will accompany the rest of the gang as the try to uncover the mysterious forces threatening the well-being of Arendelle. During a D23 presentation, directors also shared a clip of Olaf singing a new song, "Some Things Never Change" with the rest of the original Frozen ensemble.

Santino Fontana (Hans)

Though it's unclear how the conniving, power-hungry Prince Hans plays into the plot of Frozen 2, Santino Fontana is set to voice the villain nonetheless.

In the first film, Hans attempts to usurp Queen Elsa's rule over Arendelle by proposing to Princess Anna. When Elsa's frosty powers surround Arendelle in an icy blizzard, Hans sets out to kill her.

Determined to save her sister, Anna comes in between Hans and Elsa, bringing the blizzard to an end and sending the prince back to his native kingdom.

Since the 2013 animated film, Fontana has starred in a range of titles, including Crazy Ex-Girlfriend, Shades of Blue, Mozart in the Jungle and Fosse/Verdon. Fontana even went on to take home the best leading actor in a musical Tony for his work as Michael Dorsey in Tootsie.

Evan Rachel Wood (Iduna)

Though her time in the first Frozen movie was limited, Iduna, the mother of Queen Elsa and Princess Anna, is slated to make an appearance in the icy sequel.

Voicing the late mother is Westworld's Evan Rachel Wood, who received Emmy and Golden Globe nominations for her role as android Dolores Abernathy. (Frozen co-director and co-writer Jennifer Lee voiced the character in the original.)

The star's upcoming projects include Kajillionaire, Viena and the Fantomes and One Thousand Paper Cranes.

Sterling K. Brown

Sterling K. Brown is also set to lend his voice to 2019 sequel.

Known for his work in This is Us and Black Panther, the four-time Emmy-nominated actor will join the world of Arendelle as Lieutenant Mattias, as the film's directors announced at D23. What role Lieutenant Mattias plays in the grand scheme has yet to be revealed.

When The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel returns for its third season in December, Brown will appear in the Amazon series as yet another new character.

Notizie:

Elsa avrà o no la compagna? sarà o no la prima principessa LGBTQ?

Dal sito The Disinsider:

Elsa will not have a girlfriend in Frozen 2, confirms film’s songwriter

Looks like Elsa will not be crowned Disney’s first LGBTQ+ princess in Frozen 2

Despite Disney recently confirming that Frozen 2 will explain the origin of Elsa’s powers (and more!), it looks like Elsa isn’t going to be crowned Disney’s first LGBTQ+ princess anytime soon.

Frozen 2 songwriter Kristen Anderson-Lopez has told IGN that, as per the first film, Elsa will not be romantically linked to anyone in Frozen 2 – effectively smashing rumors that a girlfriend was on the cards for the Queen of Arendelle in the highly-anticipated sequel.

Anderson-Lopez told IGN: “Like the first movie, Elsa is not just defined by a romantic interest.

“There’s so many movies that define a woman by her romantic interest. That’s not a story that we wanted to tell at this point in time. What we really wanted to tell was if you have these powers, how do you grow and change and find your place in the world and find answers that haven’t been found before?”

(Fair point; the first film was about self-love and acceptance, but we can’t help but feel that Anderson-Lopez is defaulting to discussing heterosexual on-screen relationships – not LGBTQ+ relationships – here, but we’ll let it go).

So, while these comments haven’t exactly closed the doors on Elsa’s coming out in the future, they do suggest that that future isn’t now.

Campaigning for Elsa’s future as an LGBTQ+ Disney princess began in 2016, when the hashtag #GiveElsaAGirlfriend cast a digital blizzard over the internet. And that buzz hasn’t gone away.

The film’s director, Jennifer Lee even piped in on the fan buzz early last year and seemed very open to the idea of Elsa identifying as LGBTQ+: “I love everything people are saying [and] people are thinking about with our film ― that it’s creating dialogue, that Elsa is this wonderful character that speaks to so many people.

“It means the world to us that we’re part of these conversations.”

Idina Menzel herself even told PrideSource in 2016 she was “really happy” that it was her Frozen character that stirred so much interest in the possibility of a gay or lesbian Disney character.

As far as we’re concerned here at The DisInsider, nothing is concretely confirmed until audiences see it with their own eyes up on the big screen.

You’ll be singing in the sequel, Frozen 2, when you return as Elsa. Is "Into the Unknown" the next "Let It Go"?

"Into the Unknown," and then there’s another song called "Show Yourself," which is pretty spectacular as well. Everyone always asks is it the next "Let it Go"? That's lightning in a bottle. All I know is this music really moved me when I heard it, and it moved me more when I was interpreting it.

Do the film's sisters go on a quest to find their origins?

Elsa has a calling. She's hearing this voice that’s sort of calling her into the unknown. And it's kind of a quest to unveil some secrets of their past, but even more so to understand who she is and why she has the power she does, and what her purpose is in the world.

How gratifying is it to play a princess who isn't reliant on a prince?

I was just with [Frozen co-star] Kristen Bell, and we get a lot of satisfaction out of it, kind of like Wicked as well, where we're two female leads. We don't need romantic love, necessarily, to tell us who we are and complete us. It's about family and loyalty and supporting people to be their pure authentic selves. That's true love, that's unconditional love.
