News:

Ben Whishaw interpreterà Michael Banks ormai adulto nel sequel.

Dal sito Coming Soon:

Ben Whishaw Joins Mary Poppins Returns

Walt Disney Pictures continues through the casting stage on it’s upcoming big screen sequel, Mary Poppins Returns. Already set to star Emily Blunt as Poppins, Lin-Manuel Miranda as a lamplighter named Jack, and Meryl Streep as Poppins’ cousin Topsy, The Hollywood Reporter has revealed that Ben Whishaw (SPECTRE, The Zero Theorem, Paddington) will play the grown-up Michael Banks.

Reuniting the director and producing team behind Disney’s hit film musical Into the Woods, Mary Poppins Returns will be directed by Oscar nominee, Emmy and DGA Award winner Rob Marshall and produced by Marshall, Emmy winner and Golden Globe nominee John DeLuca and Oscar, Emmy and Tony Award nominee and Golden Globe winner Marc Platt. The screenplay will be written by Oscar nominee David Magee based on The Mary Poppins Stories by P.L. Travers, with Oscar nominee and Tony Award winner Marc Shaiman composing an all-new score and Shaiman and Emmy nominee and Tony Award winner Scott Wittman writing original songs.

Blunt has been cast as Mary Poppins and Miranda will play a new character, a street lamplighter named Jack. Drawing from the wealth of material in P.L. Travers’ seven additional novels, the story will take place in Depression-era London (when the books were originally written) and follows a now-grown Jane and Michael Banks, who, along with Michael’s three children, are visited by the enigmatic Mary Poppins following a personal loss. Through her unique magical skills, and with the aid of her friend Jack, she helps the family rediscover the joy and wonder missing in their lives.

Look for Mary Poppins Returns to hit the big screen December 25, 2018.

What do you think of the addition of Ben Whishaw to the Mary Poppins Returns cast? Let us know in the comments below!

Emily Blunt shares Julie Andrews' reaction to Mary Poppins Returns casting

After a string of increasingly dark roles including Edge of Tomorrow (2014), Sicario (2015), and Oct. 7’s hotly anticipated The Girl on the Train, Emily Blunt is ready to lighten up. “I enjoy the challenge to be versatile… [but] I want to find the silliness again,” she tells EW.

And her next major role will be a big departure from The Girl on the Train: She’s stepping into Julie Andrews’ iconic shoes as Mary Poppins in Rob Marshall’s Mary Poppins Returns, currently slated for a December 2018 release. “I feel a little more trepidation with this [character] because she’s so emblematic of people’s nostalgia,” Blunt says. “It’s such an important character in people’s childhood.”

While Andrews’ version of the magical nanny was sweet but firm, Blunt says her Mary Poppins will be slightly different — closer to the character from P.L. Travers’ original series. “We’re delving into the books a lot more,” she explains, “which is a different version of the character, I’ll say that much.” When she’s reminded that book Poppins is slightly tougher than fans of the 1964 film might expect, Blunt gives a coy smile: “She’s a little meaner, yeah.”

Blunt hadn’t yet spoken to Andrews when she sat down with EW in early August, but Mary Poppins Returns director Rob Marshall had — and he relayed the experience to her. “Rob said he was in the Hamptons, and he saw [Andrews], and he said, ‘It’s top secret, but Emily Blunt’s playing Mary Poppins,’” Blunt recalls. “And she went, ‘Oh, wonderful!’”

“I felt like I wanted to cry,” she says. “It was lovely to get her stamp of approval. That took the edge off it, for sure.”

Qualche dettaglio in più su Jack (prevedibile):

Speaking with Variety, Broadway superstar Lin-Manuel Miranda offered an interesting new piece of info about his character from the upcoming Mary Poppins Returns, revealing that he was actually around during the events of the original film.

“It’s straight up a sequel. Michael and Jane Banks have grown up, and they find themselves in their own spot, and Mary Poppins comes back to take care of Michael’s kids. I play a lamplighter named Jack who sort of grew up apprenticing to Bert (Dick Van Dyke’s character in the 1964 film). So I know if Mary Poppins shows up, it’s gonna get awesome. I perform that function in the movie, of saying: ‘Y’all don’t know about Mary Poppins. When Mary’s around, cool sh– happens.’“

Dick Van Dyke Joins the Mary Poppins Returns Cast!

In a new profile in The Hollywood Reporter, living legend and original Mary Poppins co-star Dick Van Dyke (who just turned 91) has confirmed he will join the Mary Poppins Returns cast. It is unclear whether it is a major role or merely a cameo.

“This one supposedly takes place 20 years later and the kids are all grown up,” Van Dyke says. “It’s a great cast — Meryl Streep, Angela Lansbury and that guy [Lin-Manuel Miranda] from Hamilton.”

Best known for classic series like The Dick Van Dyke Show and Diagnosis Murder, the still-spry actor/dancer/secret CGI animator has also been introduced to a new generation as Cecil in the Night at the Museum movies.

A Walt Disney Pictures production, the Mary Poppins Returns cast features Emily Blunt, Lin-Manuel Miranda, Meryl Streep, Ben Whishaw, Emily Mortimer, Angela Lansbury and Colin Firth.

Drawing from the wealth of material in P.L. Travers’ seven additional novels, the sequel’s story will take place in Depression-era London (when the books were originally written) and follows a now-grown Jane and Michael Banks, who, along with Michael’s three children, are visited by the enigmatic Mary Poppins following a personal loss. Through her unique magical skills, and with the aid of her friend Jack, she helps the family rediscover the joy and wonder missing in their lives.

Look for Mary Poppins Returns to hit theaters on December 25, 2018.

Dal sito The Knowledge:

Mary Poppins Returns films next week

Principal photography on Mary Poppins Returns begins next week with Emily Blunt as the eponymous nanny with extraordinary powers.

Lin-Manuel Miranda co-stars in the film, which sees Mary revisit the now grown-up Banks children, played by Emily Mortimer and Ben Whishaw.

The cast also includes Meryl Streep, Colin Firth, Angela Lansbury and, in a nod to the original, Dick Van Dyke.

Mary Poppins Returns was first listed on Production Intelligence in June last year with updates since on the studio and production manager on board.

The Disney feature is one of many high-profile projects gearing up to shoot in the UK this year, with the Mouse House also fielding Tim Burton’s Dumbo and Cruella, starring Emma Stone. The studio’s new take on the classic tale, The Nutcracker and the Four Realms, wraps a four-month UK shoot imminently.

Solo come conferma. smile.gif

Mary Poppins Returns begins production!

Disney’s Mary Poppins Returns begins production in England!

Production on Mary Poppins Returns, the all new sequel to Disney’s 1964 film Mary Poppins, has commenced at England’s Shepperton Studios. The film, which stars Golden Globe winner Emily Blunt (The Girl on the Train, Into the Woods) and Emmy, Grammy and Tony Award winner Lin-Manuel Miranda (Hamilton, Moana) and is directed and produced by Academy Award nominee, Emmy and DGA Award winner Rob Marshall (Into the Woods, Chicago), is scheduled for release December 25, 2018.

The film also stars Ben Whishaw (SPECTRE), Emily Mortimer (Hugo) and Julie Walters (Harry Potter films) with Colin Firth (The King’s Speech) and Meryl Streep (Florence Foster Jenkins). In addition, Dick Van Dyke plays Mr. Dawes Jr., the chairman of Fidelity Fiduciary Bank, which is now run by William Weatherall Wilkins (Firth).

Mary Poppins Returns introduces three new Banks children, played by Pixie Davies (Miss Peregrine’s Home for Peculiar Children), Nathanael Saleh (Game of Thrones) and newcomer Joel Dawson.

Set in 1930s depression-era London (the time period of the original novels), Mary Poppins Returns is drawn from the wealth of material in PL Travers’ additional seven books. In the story, Michael (Whishaw) and Jane (Mortimer) are now grown up, with Michael, his three children and their housekeeper, Ellen (Walters), living on Cherry Tree Lane. After Michael suffers a personal loss, the enigmatic nanny Mary Poppins (Blunt) re-enters the lives of the Banks family, and, along with the optimistic street lamplighter Jack (Miranda), uses her unique magical skills to help the family rediscover the joy and wonder missing in their lives. Mary Poppins also introduces the children to a new assortment of colorful and whimsical characters, including her eccentric cousin, Topsy (Streep).

PL Travers first introduced the world to the no-nonsense nanny in her 1934 book Mary Poppins, which Disney adapted for the screen and released in August, 1964. The film, which was directed by Robert Stevenson and starred Julie Andrews and Dick Van Dyke, was the top-grossing film of that year and nominated for 13 Academy Awards, winning five. However, the subsequent adventures of Mary Poppins remained only on the pages of PL Travers’ seven additional books, which she published between 1935 and 1988.

Mary Poppins Returns is produced by Marshall, Emmy winner and Golden Globe nominee John DeLuca (Chicago) and Oscar and Tony nominee and Emmy and Golden Globe winner Marc Platt (La La Land). The screenplay is by Oscar nominee David Magee (Life of Pi) based on The Mary Poppins Stories by PL Travers with Oscar nominee and Tony winner Marc Shaiman (Hairspray) and Emmy nominee and Tony winner Scott Wittman (Hairspray) writing all new songs with Shaiman composing an original score.

Amongst Marshall’s award-winning creative team are Oscar-winning director of photography Dion Beebe, ASC ACS (Memoirs of a Geisha); two-time Oscar-winning production designer John Myhre (Memoirs of a Geisha, Chicago); three-time Oscar-winning costume designer Sandy Powell (The Young Victoria, The Aviator, Shakespeare in Love); Oscar-winning hair and make-up designer Peter Swords King (The Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King); Oscar-winning set decorator Gordon Sim (Chicago); Oscar-winning production sound mixer Simon Hayes (Les Misérables); and Emmy nominated editor Wyatt Smith (Doctor Strange, Into the Woods). The film is choreographed by Marshall and DeLuca with Joey Pizzi (Chicago) serving as co-choreographer.
