Q: Is there any possibility of a live-action Hercules movie?

The DisInsider: Yes.

Didn’t want to write up a story on this because I couldn’t get it confirmed.

I’ve heard from a couple different sources that Disney has discussed a live-action Hercules. Nothing official as of yet, just something discussed.

Q: After Mulan, what live-action adaptations should we expect moving forward the quickest?

The DisInsider: Black Cauldron and Hercules.

Da Inside the Magic

Disney to make live-action Hercules, could star Alexander Skarsgard

Every Disney fan loves the classic animated story of the son of gods and according to a new report, it seems Disney may want to bring this story back to life in an all-new live-action remake! Additionally, it’s been shared that the company may already have its eyes set on its hero for the role: Alexander Skarsgard.

Recently, Disney has seen great success with its remakes of some of its most beloved and classic films, including “Aladdin,” “Dumbo,” and the upcoming remake of “The Lion King.” So the possibility of the company wanting to revisit the story of this half-man, half-god really isn’t that crazy of an idea.

According to We Got This Covered, the outlet reports that Disney is working on a live-action “Hercules” movie and is currently eyeing Alexandar Skarsgard for the role. They share that “he’s on the wishlist but there’s been no auditioning process just yet.”

There are no details of the film’s plot at this point but it’s believed that the film would be similar to the 1997 original movie.

Rumors surrounding the idea of a live-action “Hercules” remake have been surfacing on the internet for the past year. However, not many have included the names of actors to take part in the proposed project.

If the company is set to take on the project, the idea that they have their eyes set on Alexandar Skarsgard isn’t too far-fetched. However, the original animated classic film does portray Hercules as a teenager, which Skargard is now a little old to play. Of course, the company could take the story in another direction as it wouldn’t be the first time the company reimagined one of their classic animated films into a live-action version with a little bit of a different vision.

Just recently did we learn that the upcoming live-action version of “Mulan” would be without Mushu. Not to mention the fact that the film will not be a musical and will be more focused on action and heroism.

Benedict Cumberbatch ancora rumoreggiato per Ade

Da Inside the Magic

Benedict Cumberbatch may star in Disney’s live-action “Hercules”

Benedict Cumberbatch is mostly known for his role as Doctor Strange in the 2016 Marvel box office hit and the Avengers films. But Cumberbatch may be making another Disney appearance in the upcoming live action “Hercules” movie.

Disney has been working their way through their Disney Animated Classics, remaking and bringing them back to the big screen in live-action. Most recently, we have heard that Disney has another project up their sleeves — a remake of the 1997 film, “Hercules.”

Tate Donovan voiced the demigod in Disney’s animated version of “Hercules,” and we already know that Alexander Skarsgard is at the top of the list to take over as Hercules in the live-action. But how will Hercules be the hero he is without taking on the King of the Underworld?

The God of the Dead was originally voiced by James Woods who brought sarcasm and charisma to the evil villain, making him one of Disney’s most beloved and iconic antagonists. But who will be able to bring Hades to life in the upcoming live-action? Well, it’s rumored that Disney has their eyes set on the “Doctor Strange” actor, Benedict Cumberbatch.

Cumberbatch appears to be on Disney Studios’ wishlist for the role, but just because he is on the wishlist doesn’t mean he will end up with this part. Still, given his experience with the Mystic Arts in the Marvel films, we wouldn’t be surprised if he played a god in a new Disney movie.

Though we may have to wait to find out the full cast, or if Cumberbatch will indeed play this charismatic villain, we have plenty of other Disney live-action films to look forward to. The House of Mouse is currently working on a live-action “Lady and the Tramp“, coming to Disney’s new streaming service, Disney+ in November as well as a live-action remake of the 1998 film “Mulan,” which is set to hit theaters in March 2020.

Da We Got This Covered

Tom Hiddleston Being Eyed For Disney’s Live-Action Hercules Remake

Disney’s already adapted many of their 1990s animated classics for live-action, so it’s no surprise that they’re working on a Hercules remake, too. This isn’t official yet, but there are many rumors going around about the project right now and We Got This Covered has previously brought you the news that we’ve heard Alexander Skarsgard is up for the title role, while 90210 star Trevor Donovan has also hinted on Twitter that he’s at least auditioned for the part of the demi-god.
Our source has now given us an update on who Disney wants for Herc’s nemesis Hades, though. In the original 1997 adventure, James Woods voiced the flame-haired villain, lending him his fast-talking wise guy persona. For the remake, however, it appears that the studio is going in a different direction and are looking for British actors known for their class and charisma. That’s what we can take away from the two names we’ve been told are on Disney’s wishlist: Benedict Cumberbatch and Tom Hiddleston.
Hiddleston has, of course, already played a villain you love to hate in a Disney-owned franchise in the form of the MCU’s Loki. In fact, both Loki and Hades are drawn from ancient mythologies. You might think that Hiddleston would be worried about typecasting if he accepted the part, then. However, at this stage, it’s unclear if these actors have even been approached as they’re only on an internal wishlist, so who knows whether he’d have any interest in the role.

No doubt fans would love to see either Cumberbatch or Hiddleston as Hades, though. Both would bring a tad more menace to the character, but they’re also gifted at comedy, too, so that side of Hercules’ evil uncle wouldn’t be lost completely in the film. And seeing as this intel comes from the same sources who told us an Aladdin sequel was happening, and that Robert Pattinson was locked in as Batman, we have no reason to doubt it.
But again, both actors are simply on a wishlist for now and neither are guaranteed to end up with the role.

Da We Got This Covered

Idris Elba Reportedly Eyed For Hades In Live-Action Hercules Remake

It seems inevitable that live-action remakes of animated Disney classics will continue to roll off the production line until they’ve exhausted their entire back catalogue, given the countless billions in box office dollars that they’ve brought in for the Mouse House so far. Eventually they’ll have to start unearthing some deep cuts and more obscure movies, but for now, there’s still a fair share of familiar titles that are ripe for the reboot treatment.
One that fans have been waiting for is 1997’s Hercules, which retains a strong following to this day. And given that 90s nostalgia is all the rage now and the updated version of fellow 90s favorites Aladdin and The Lion King both earned upwards of a billion dollars each, it surely won’t be too long until the project is officially announced.
We’ve already heard that a new and improved Hercules is in the early stages of development, and we’ve now received a casting update on the pic. According to our sources – the same ones who told us Disney is developing a Beauty and the Beast spinoff for Gaston and National Treasure 3 is in the works, both of which were correct – shortlists are already being drawn up behind closed doors at the studio and Idris Elba is one of the frontrunners for Hades.

Apparently, and as we reported last year, Benedict Cumberbatch is still Disney’s number one choice, but if there ends up being scheduling conflicts and he can’t do it, then they might offer it to Elba instead. Both actors would be solid choices, of course, and would no doubt approach the role very differently, so it would really depend on what the tone of the movie is going to be.
Cumberbatch would be ideal for a broader, scenery-chewing take on Hades, while Elba is better suited for a more serious approach. Either way, we could get our answer soon, as the Hercules remake begins to get moving behind the scenes.

Da We Got This Covered

Ryan Gosling Reportedly Eyed To Lead Live-Action Hercules Remake

Disney’s line of live-action remakes hasn’t been met with a universally positive critical reception, but their box office figures have been undeniable. Naturally then, there are more in the pipeline, and we’ve now got a new casting scoop regarding one of those that’s next in line – a live-action remake of animated classic (OK, probably not quite classic) Hercules.
Though their first choice for the role is True Blood star Alexander Skarsgard – as we’ve previously reported – should he have other commitments, we’ve been told by our sources that Ryan Gosling is a potential alternative. And given that these are the same sources who informed us that the Mouse House was working on live-action remakes of Bambi and Robin Hood long before they were announced, we’ve no reason to doubt them.
Of course, Gosling certainly has the look for the hero, and with a Hollywood-assisted fitness regime, he’ll have the physique, too. If schlubby comics Paul Rudd and Chris Pratt can do it, there’s no doubting that the Drive star can as well. That being said, Gosling and Skarsgard are just names on a shortlist, which means they’re only two options out of several, so the role might end up going to someone else in the end. For right now, however, they’re both being considered.

I’ve mentioned the box office totals behind the remakes, and it’s worth going through them in full. Odd mishaps aside (Dumbo and Alice Through the Looking Glass both failed to find an audience), the numbers are seriously eye-watering. Aladdin, Beauty and the Beast and The Lion King all crossed 7 figures – the latter becoming the seventh highest grossing film of all time – and The Jungle Book also came damn close to doing so. This all begs the question, though: Why, why, why, are you paying to see them?
Why are you parting with your hard-earned cash to watch soulless rehashes of timeless source material that only serve to finance the appalling lifestyles of fat cat execs running an entertainment-industrial complex? Honestly, I’m stumped.
Thoughts below are most welcome. We need answers, because it won’t end with Hercules, that’s for sure.
