Dal sito Hitc:

WHERE WAS ALADDIN FILMED? AGRABAH’S EXACT LOCATION IF IT WAS REAL

Aladdin’s 2019 remake has definitely arrived to a lot of praise, most notably for its stunning setting but just where was the movie filmed?

Disney’s live-action remake of the 1992 classic, Aladdin, hit cinema screens around the world over the weekend and we were greeted with a stunning new take on the 27-year-old animation that will be a great introduction for a new generation of Disney fans.

One thing the new film did bring up, which the Disney original didn’t cover, was the location of Agrabah, Aladdin’s fictitious home city and setting for the story. The city has been a hot topic of discussion ever since the 1992 film was released for a myriad of reasons and not all of them good.

But one thing that film fans everywhere can agree on was that the new adaptation of Agrabah looked incredible, but where was it filmed?

WHERE WAS ALADDIN 2019 FILMED?

Disney’s live-action remake features scenes both in the city of Agrabah and its palace as well as out in searing heat of the desert.

Naturally, a lot of the scenes in and around Agrabah will have been shot in a studio. The studios in question were Longcross Studios in the UK.

However, the real jewels of the film were the scenes shot on location, out in the desert. It’s definitely a huge bonus to a film to have these stunning locations to add to the visual wonder of the movie, it’s something that just can’t be imagined and created artificially through CGI.

Therefore Aladdin made the Wadi Rum desert in Jordan its home while filming the desert scenes throughout the film.

Aladdin is far from the first film to use this location for filming.

Disney have visited Wadi Rum several times in recent years, using it for both Star Wars: Episode IX and Rogue One: A Star Wars Story.

The Martian also went to Jordan for filming in order to create the harsh and barren wastes of Mars.

But most surprisingly, the location has been used for much older projects too, including Indiana Jones: The Last Crusade and even Laurence of Arabia.

WHERE WOULD AGRABAH BE IN REAL LIFE?

Ever since Disney’s 1992 original, no one has been quite sure where Agrabah would be if it was a real place. The city features so many different inspirations it could easily be a location anywhere in the Middle-East or South Asia.

According to the first translation of the original Syrian tale of Aladdin, the story occurred in an ancient city in China but due to the tale’s references to the city’s Sultan and regular Islamic inspirations, Disney decided on placing Agrabah more in the region of modern-day Iraq and Iran while still including references to the cultures of neighbouring regions.

Allegedly, Agrabah was originally going to be set in Baghdad but due to the Gulf War in the early 90s, this was changed.

The Sultan’s palace in the original animation bears a striking resemblance to India’s Taj Mahal. As it just so happens, the Taj Mahal is in the Agra region of India, so it’s more than likely that Disney took the name Agra and added the start of Baghdad onto its name to create Agrabah.

Therefore, based on both of Disney’s films and the original Aladdin story, the fictitious home of Aladdin could, in theory, be anywhere along the ancient Silk Road that links the Mediterranean countries of Israel, Syria and Jordan to China and India hence the multicultural nature of Agrabah.

Dal sito Mirror:

Aladdin filming locations revealed for Disney's 2019 live-action remake

Disney's highly-anticipated Aladdin live-action remake is hitting cinemas this week, and we can't wait to be whisked away to a whole new world!

Of course the action takes place in the fictional city of Agrabah, but the good news is that this time, you can actually go and visit the beautiful setting.

That's because while some of the scenes were filmed at Longcross Studios in Surrey, the bulk of the filming took place in Jordan's breathtaking Wadi Rum desert.

Mena Massoud, who plays Aladdin, previously confirmed the filming location when he shared a throwback image of himself in the desert while they were shooting the film.

It's not difficult to see why it caught the attention of the producers.

After all, Wadi Rum boasts dramatic sandstone mountains, sweeping sand dunes and landscapes, and plenty of rocky caverns and features that already look like something out of a fairytale.

In fact, it's not the first time that the desert has caught the attention of Hollywood. It's also served as a backdrop for films including Rogue One: A Star Wars Story, The Martian, Indiana Jones: The Last Crusade and Lawrence of Arabia.

Although Wadi Rum is a protected desert in Jordan, you can go and visit if you want to check it out for yourself.

There are plenty of different ways to check out the landscape whether you embark on a camel or horse safari for a day trip from Aqaba or join one of the hiking and rock-climbing tours on offer.

Fancy discovering those Arabian Nights for yourself? There are plenty of spots where you can enjoy camping under the stars.

Jordan clearly held a special place in the cast's hearts as they were quick to return in January 2019, this time as they kicked off the press tour ahead of Aladdin's upcoming release.

This time they headed to the Amman Citadel, where Will Smith (who plays the genie) shared a clip of himself stood with Naomi Scott (Jasmine), Mena Massoud and Guy Ritchie.

Considering your own trip to Jordan? There are plenty of holiday firms which offer escorted holidays including trips to Wadi Rum.

For example, Titan Travel offers an eight-day tour from £1,749pp complete with trips to Wadi Rum and Petra.

Meanwhile, Mercury Holidays offers eight-day tours from £1169pp, and Hayes and Jarvis has a dedicated Jordan Highlights itinerary.

Wadi Rum served as the main Aladdin filming location

Dal sito The Knowledge Online

Disney filmed Aladdin on UK stages

Immense sets were built at studios near London for Disney’s live-action version of musical story Aladdin, directed by Guy Ritchie.

Longcross Studios became home to fictional Arabian city Agrabah, built over the course of 15 weeks and specifically designed to provide exciting visuals for some of the film’s key musical numbers.

“There was a logic behind every single building placement, the direction each street turned and the way each house was oriented because of the intricately-designed musical numbers and action scenes,” says Dan Lin, one of the film’s producers.

Main dance number ‘Prince Ali’ was shot over five days with 450 performers and seven cameras.

The UK has become a hub for many of Disney’s live-action feature remakes. Maleficent and its sequel, Mary Poppins Returns and Dumbo were all shot in and around London. Upcoming movie Cruella, charting the adventures of the young Cruella de Vil, is scheduled to shoot in the region.

Select desert scenes for Aladdin were filmed in Jordan. Ritchie and his production team considered locations throughout the Middle East and North Africa, before focussing their shoot on Wadi Rum in Jordan, with the support of the country’s Royal Film Commission.

Producers of big-budget features and TV shows generally choose either Jordan or Morocco for projects with desert story settings, as both offer stable production conditions and extensive local logistical support.

Jordan has recently hosted scenes for Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker – which was also based in the UK – and last year the country was used as a filming location for supernatural series Jinn, Netflix’s first Arabic-language drama.

10 Things We Learned from Writer John August During WDFM’s Happily Ever After Hours

Screenwriter John August recently stopped by the Walt Disney Family Museum for their Happily Ever After Hours speaker series. His work includes Disney’s live-action retelling of Aladdin, Fox Animation’s Titan A.E., and multiple collaborations with Tim Burton including Disney’s Frankenweenie and other projects like Big Fish, Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, and Corpse Bride. Here are 10 things we learned from John August.

[...]

In the case of Corpse Bride, John August worked directly with Danny Elfman and shares a writing credit on the songs. “What I’ve classically done, I just write the songs and I know the songs are going to get swapped out at some point… The same thing happened with Aladdin. I wrote some new songs and then Alan Menken swapped them out.”

"Speechless," written by Alan Menken and Pasek and Paul and performed by Naomi Scott, from Disney's #Aladdin, has been certified GOLD by The Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA)! 📀✨

È già un classico come Let It Go.
