Da Deadline

Guy Ritchie To Direct Live-Action ‘Aladdin’ For Disney

by Mike Fleming Jr
October 10, 2016 11:00am

Guy Ritchie is in talks with Disney to direct Aladdin, the latest in the studio’s efforts to re-imagine classic properties for contemporary audiences. Big Fish scribe John August has written the script and The Lego Movie‘s Dan Lin is producing. Those franchise launches have included Maleficent, Cinderella and most recently the $965 million global grosser The Jungle Book. The hope is to start a new franchise here.

Ritchie, who directed the first two Sherlock Holmes films with Robert Downey Jr and Jude Law, most recently wrapped King Arthur: Legend Of The Sword with Charlie Hunnam and Law for Warner Bros. CAA made his deal.

Aladdin, the 1992 Disney classic animated feature, won two Oscars, with Robin Williams voicing the genie.

Disney has several more of these coming. Next to be released on March 17 will be Beauty And The Beast, followed by Mary Poppins Returns on December 25, 2018. The studio has Mulan on a fast track, with a script by Dawn Of The Planet of the Apes’ Rick Jaffa and Amanda Silver, and a November 2, 2018 release date. Jon Favreau, who helmed Jungle Book, is directing a live-action The Lion King.

L'Hollywood Reporter comunica inoltre che il film manterrà molte canzoni dell'originale animato, esattamente come Beauty and the Best, inoltre la storia seguirà uno sviluppo non linerare, secondo l'idea di Ritchie stesso, già proposta nel suo film ''Snatch-lo strappo''

Disney’s Live-Action ‘Aladdin’ Enlists Guy Ritchie to Direct

John August wrote the script for the live-action version, which sources say will keep many of the musical elements of the original.

Guy Ritchie, the stylistic director behind the Robert Downey Jr.-starring Sherlock Holmes movies, is in negotiations to helm Disney’s live-action adaptation of its 1992 animated classic Aladdin.

Dan Lin, who was a producer on the Holmes movies for Warner Bros., is producing what Disney says will be an ambitious and nontraditional take on Aladdin via his Lin Pictures banner. Jonathan Eirich will executive produce the movie and oversee it for Lin Pictures.

The 1992 movie was part of Disney’s animation renaissance and retold the Middle Eastern-set folk tale of a young man granted three wishes by a genie trapped in a lamp and the evil sorcerer who covets the magical object.

The genie was voiced by Robin Williams, who won audiences over with his unrestrained performance, making Aladdin the highest-grossing film of the year. The movie also won Oscars for best score and best song, the latter for “A Whole New World,” one of the pic’s six songs.

The film launched a small Aladdin franchise for the studio, and in recent years it was translated to the stage.

John August wrote the script for the live-action version, which sources say will keep many of the musical elements of the original. Still to be determined is the approach to the Genie, which to this day remains closely associated with Williams’ singular and defining performance.

Also part of the nontraditional aspect of the project is the studio’s intent to make it nonlinear, a move right out of the Ritchie playbook. The helmer made his name directing snappy crime thrillers such as Lock, Stock and Two Smoking Barrels and Snatch that used that kind of storytelling. He last directed The Man From U.N.C.L.E. and is in postproduction on King Arthur, Warners’ upcoming take on the Camelot legend.

Ritchie is repped by CAA.

Sì siamo molto molto molto molto molto molto molto molto felici!!!

Disney's "Aladdin" Is Getting a Live-Action Remake That Might Make You Nervous

It's going to be ~quite~ a magic carpet ride.

A live-action adaptation of Aladdin is officially in the works, but emerging details about the movie are starting to make some Disney Classic stans a little nervous.

Unlike Disney's 2015 adaptation of Cinderella, the new Aladdin film will not adhere strictly to the storyline you know and love.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, Aladdin will be an "ambitious and non-traditional take" on the animated film, with a non-linear format. Filmmaker Guy Richie, known for his use of non-linear narrative, is said to be in talks to direct. All in all, it's enough to make fans of the original a little apprehensive.

No word yet on what might happen to Genies, the Aladdin live-action prequel rumored to be in development last year. Maybe the studio will wrap plot elements of Genies into the live Aladdin, hence the non-linear game plan? Maybe the whole thing will be a mind-bending magic-carpet odyssey?

At any rate, Disney has successfully taken chances with live-action adaptations before. Maleficent merged the origin story of Sleeping Beauty's villain with the princess tale you already knew. And that movie was amazing. Also reassuring: The new Aladdin reportedly will keep many musical elements from the original. Phew.

So as scary as the changes may seem for anyone who loved the original Aladdin, Disney has yet to let fans down. It's a whole new world, and we're kind of excited about it.

Our Girl heartthrob Luke Pasqualino linked to Guy Ritchie's live action version of Disney's Aladdin

Luke Pasqualino could be hitting the big-time as Aladdin in the live action version of the Disney film

Luke Pasqualino is undoubtedly one of the brightest stars of young British talent, and now he could be about to get his big break in Hollywood.

According to sources the 26-year-old is being strongly linked to a remake of popular Disney animation Aladdin.

The live-action retelling of the 1992 Disney film of the same name is set to start filming next year, and Guy Ritchie is the only name linked to directing the ambitious flick.

A movie insider told Mirror Online: "At the moment Guy is the closest thing they have to a director and he's been in talks with them for a while now about turning the classic into a big budget flick.

"He hasn't been confirmed officially as the director yet, as he has some work left to do on his Arthur epic, but they're sure once all that is sorted out they'll get him to put pen to paper."

The source also claimed that the British connection between Luke and Guy is something the studio are keen to exploit and they hope to make more than one film if it does well.

"Luke is young so it's not impossible that he could star in a few Aladdin movies".

"This is his chance to really crack Hollywood and if anyone can turn him into a global star it's Guy.

"There may be a small issue with convincing the studio to give a relative unknown like Luke such a big chance, but he definitely has the charisma and looks to pull it off."

Guy Ritchie's upcoming projects: Treasure Island and live-action Aladdin

Guy Ritchie, the English film director, was born in 1968 in Hertfordshire in England. Ritchie is perhaps best-known for directing the Sherlock Holmes movies featuring Robert Downey Jr. Although he has mainly directed crime films like Lock, Stock and Two Smoking Barrels, Snatch, Revolver, and RocknRolla, the English director is now venturing into the science fiction genre by teaming with Paramount Pictures and directing Cascade, a movie centered around time travel.

Sci-Fi Addicts reports that James Coyne will write the script of the movie to be produced by Ritchie/Wigram Productions, a company founded by Guy Ritchie and Lionel Wigram.

This will not be the first time that James Coyne and Guy Ritchie have crossed paths. Coyne was almost recruited to write the script for the next Sherlock Holmes movie to be directed by Ritchie; however, Warner Bros. finally decided to recruit five screenwriters to co-write the script for the film. Deadline reports that Coyne has also written a draft script for Treasure Island, a movie based on Robert Louis Stevenson’s famous novel, to be directed by Guy Ritchie. Even though it has been some time since the Treasure Island movie was conceptualized, the production team has yet to be finalized.

Apart from producing the science-fiction movie, Guy Ritchie is also directing a live-action version of Aladdin, Walt Disney’s 1992 animated film that featured the late Robin Williams in the voice cast. According to the Hollywood Reporter, the 1992 animation was based on a Middle-Eastern tale of a young street urchin who is granted three wishes by a magical genie who lives in a lamp that is pursued by an evil sorcerer.

The movie turned out to be the highest-grossing movie of 1992 and won the Oscar for the song “A Whole New World.” The upcoming movie will be produced by Dan Lin, an executive producer of the Sherlock Holmes films, in association with Disney, who considered Aladdin an ambitious project. The 1992 movie was successful because talented actors like Robin Williams were able to bring the animated characters to life through their voices. In fact, the genie from the 1992 movie remains one of the most unforgettable movie characters thanks to the brilliant voice work by Robin Williams.

Ritchie recently finished directing King Arthur: Legend of the Sword and is now ready to work on Aladdin, the script for which was written by John August. Deadline reports that Disney has achieved considerable success at the box office due to its recent live-action movies Maleficent, Cinderella, and The Jungle Book receiving excellent receptions.

Aladdin will be the latest Disney movie in the live-action genre, and the company recently announced that they intend to remake The Lion King with Jon Favreau as the director. Disney has been roping in famous directors like Jon Favreau and Guy Ritchie, making good use of their unique skills and perspectives to ensure the success of their movies. After all, Jon Favreau’s The Jungle Book managed to garner $965 million globally.

Guy Ritchie knows how to make the best use of new technologies and how to enhance special effects in his movies. His penchant for enhancing the viewer’s experience is evident in Sherlock Holmes: A Game of Shadows, which is well-known for the special effects used in scenes like the waterfall plunge, train fighting, and the attack in the woods. Along with the film’s special effects supervisor, Guy Ritchie is also credited with creating the digital effects in the Sherlock Holmes movies. In fact, the Guy Ritchie-directed Sherlock Holmes movies are renowned more for their special effects than their stories.

E' bellissima e somiglia molto a Jasmine.

Aladdin vinse due premi Oscar: Miglior colonna sonora a Alan Menken e Miglior canzone (A Whole New World).
