Potevano astenersi?

Disney Officially Announces Maleficent 2, Jungle Book 2 and More!

Disney officially announced Maleficent 2, The Jungle Book 2 and more!

With director Jon Favreau‘s The Jungle Book number one at the domestic box office for the second week in a row, Walt Disney Pictures has officially updated its release schedule for its upcoming live-action fairy tale films. Along with the new schedule comes a number of project confirmations, including the official announcement of both another Favreau-helmed Jungle Book film and the return of Angelina Jolie in Maleficent 2! The Jungle Book sequel will also see the return of screenwriter Justin Marks, while Linda Woolverton will be back to write Maleficent 2.

The current schedule will next deliver James Bobin’s Alice in Wonderland sequel, Alice Through the Looking Glass, to theaters on May 27. August 12 will then bring David Lowery’s updated take on Pete’s Dragon, while March 17, 2017 will bring director Bill Condon’s much-anticipated, live-action take on Beauty and the Beast.

While no specific titles have yet been announced connected to the following dates, Disney will deliver another live-action fairy tale feature on July 28, 2017 (one was previously set for December 22, 2017). 2018 will then bring three films: a fairy tale film on April 6 with two non-specified live-action features arriving on August 3 and December 25. Another live-action fairy tale film has claimed a December 20, 2019 release.

In addition to The Jungle Book 2 and Maleficent 2, live-action projects in the works at Disney include Cruella, which will star Emma Stone as the 101 Dalmatians villain and which will feature a screenplay by Kelly Marcel. A Wrinkle in Time, meanwhile, will adapt the Madeleine L’Engle novel with Ava DuVernay directing from a script by Jennifer Lee. Jungle Cruise will star Dwayne Johnson and will feature a screenplay by John Requa and Glenn Ficarra writing. Tim Burton will direct Dumbo with Ehren Kruger writing. Rob Marshall will take on a Mary Poppins sequel with Emily Blunt and Lin-Manuel Miranda set to star. Lasse Hallstrom will direct Ashleigh Powell’s script The Nutcracker and the Four Realms. And finally, Reese Witherspoon will play Tinker Bell in an untitled feature scripted by Victoria Strouse!

Bravo BennuzzO!

Do you have your next project lined up?

I’m trying to figure out the story for “Maleficent 2” right now.

What’s been the challenge, and what’s been the delight, of trying to figure that out?

Well, the delight is going back to the world of Maleficent and Aurora and Diaval and that whole fairy world, which I just love – the dark fairies. So that’s really exciting. And there’s always a challenge of finding a good story.

Have you talked to Angelina Jolie and tapped her brain for some ideas at all?

Yeah, sure. She’s absolutely great. She’s a great collaborator. She’s a wonderful writer in her own right. She’s a remarkable, multifaceted actress, and talent, and director.

The screenwriter also offered an update on Maleficent 2, which is that she's currently in the middle of writing the script. "This very minute, it's blinking at my computer," she laughed. Of course, she couldn't offer story details, but she did say the sequel will focus on "the next step in the relationship between Maleficent and Aurora."

Angelina Jolie May Soon Star in 'Maleficent 2'

The Maleficent depicter is also eying several projects which she will possibly star in, including two large-scale Universal projects.

Angelina Jolie may spend most of her time behind camera as director lately, but she is reportedly also eying several projects which she will possibly star in. In addition, Jolie may soon reprise her role as vengeful fairy Maleficent in "Maleficent 2".

With Disney planning to make a large amount of live-action movies, "Maleficent 2" will possibly soon be developed as well. The first "Maleficent" movie gained a spectacular cume back in 2014, earning $758 million worldwide. "Maleficent 2" therefore is expected to repeat the success of its predecessor and follow the success of other Disney big hits, such as "The Jungle Book". Although "Maleficent 2" hasn't had a release date yet, the movie is expected to hit U.S theaters sometime in 2019.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, Jolie is also in talks to star in two large-scale Universal projects. The first one is an adaptation of Simon Sebag Montefiore's novel "Catherine the Great and Potemkin: The Imperial Love Affair", which follows the love affair between Catherine the Great and a Russian military leader. The second one is a World War II espionage drama based on Clare Mulley's book "The Spy Who Loved".

In terms of directing, Jolie recently helmed "First They Killed My Father: A Daughter of Cambodia Remembers". The movie is adapted from the memoir of Loung Ung, the survivor of Khmer Rouge in Cambodia. Jolie's next directorial project may be an adaptation of Alessandro Baricco's novel "Without Blood", which follows the brutality of unnamed war. Recently, Jolie has signed on to produce Disney's "The One and Only Ivan", a children's film based on Katherine Applegate's novel of the same name.

Maleficent 2 to Be Angelina Jolie's Next Movie?

Angelina Jolie was at one point, not that long ago, one of the most sought-after and highest-paid actresses in Hollywood. On Disney's Maleficent, she was able to command a massive $20 million payday as well as some backend, which is no small feat. She has since turned her attention toward smaller projects and directing, but it looks like her next big role could be a return as the iconic Disney villain in Maleficent 2.

The Hollywood Reporter recently ran a pretty in-depth feature on Angelina Jolie and where her career is headed. According to the report, she currently has a few acting projects in the works after spending a few years mostly behind the camera. Her only acting gigs of late were in By The Sea and Kung Fu Panda 3. Per THR, she is now looking to get back in the game with a pair of large-scale projects currently in development at Universal, which include Catherine the Great and Potemkin: The Imperial Love Affair, and a World War II spy drama called The Spy Who Loved, based on Clare Mulley's book of the same name. But perhaps the most interesting bit is that Disney wants her to come back for Maleficent 2, which could wind up being her next project.

Disney has had a staggering amount of success with live-action reimaginings of their classic tales. Maleficent, which came out in 2014, was one of the early examples of this. The movie brought in an incredibly impressive $758 million worldwide. Disney gave the green light to Maleficent 2 a while back, but movement on the project has been slow. Assuming Angelina Jolie does decide that is going to be her next acting gig, things will probably move forward fairly quickly. As far as live-action adaptations go, Disney is preparing to release Beauty and the Beast next month, with the live-action Mulan set for release in November 2018. They are also working on a live-action Little Mermaid, The Jungle Book 2 and The Lion King, as well as Dumbo with director Tim Burton, who directed the very successful Alice in Wonderland.

While no specific release date has been nailed down for Maleficent 2, sometime in 2019 would seem like a realistic expectation at this point. The studio has a release date pegged for an untitled project on December 20, 2019, which could be a good place for it. As far as directing goes, which is what she has been focusing on, Angelina Jolie recently held a premiere for her upcoming Netflix movie First They Killed My Father, which will arrive on the streaming service later this year in addition to getting an awards qualifying theatrical run. She is also reportedly prepping an adaptation of Alessandro Baricco's novel about the brutality of war, Without Blood. Disney hasn't made mention of a director for Maleficent 2, so maybe they could persuade her to double up for the sequel.

THR's report also confirmed that her in development rhino poaching movie Africa is all but scrapped. The movie was supposed to star her ex-husband Brad Pitt, but the movie apparently got a little out of control budget wise, which caused the project to fall apart. Her directorial effort Unbroken did pretty well at the box office, grossing $163 million, but it didn't get the awards season love that she and Universal were likely hoping for. That may motivate her to get back in front of the camera in something like Maleficent 2, which could help give her name a big boost.

Maleficent 2 may wind up being Angelina Jolie's next movie, but one last thing that the report from THR noted was that Universal's Bride of Frankenstein remake, which she has been attached to for quite some time, is still a very long way off. They haven't even hired a writer for the movie. No matter what her next project winds up being, it is clear that Angelina Jolie is making her next moves carefully, since she reportedly turned down Wanted 2 and Salt 2, which probably would have been nice paydays for her. But Disney is a safe bet at this point, so that is probably why the Mouse House was able to coax her back for a sequel.

Dal sito Travelers Today:

Disney Courts Angeline Jolie For A 'Maleficent' Sequel

In light with her re-emergence into the spotlight, there have been a few rumblings in regard to what Angelina Jolie may be up to next in Hollywood. With a slew of possible projects, a potential reprisal of Disney's Maleficent for the character's sequel film is said to be the most plausible at this point in time.

Last week, Jolie had been in a couple of public sightings to promote her new film, "First They Killed My Father," in Cambodia with all of her kids behind her. Furthermore, she also sat down with some media outlets, including BBC wherein she commented on her recent split with Brad Pitt for the first time. Along with these public functions are various talks about whether she will continue pursuing her acting career or not.

In an exclusive new tip from The Hollywood Reporter, word has it that the actress is currently being wooed to come back to the "Maleficent" franchise for a potential direct sequel. The film, which came out in 2014, had the mother of six, playing the "Sleeping Beauty" villain. Instead of painting the character as solely bad, the narrative somehow explains how the anti-hero ended up being the aloof and snooty creature that she is more popularly known to be.

The report added that the "Maleficent" sequel is currently being actively developed by Disney. However, if history can be any indication, Jolie tends to lean towards doing standalone films except her recurring voice acting role in the "Kung Fu Panda" franchise. The 41-year-old has reportedly turned down supposed follow-ups to some of her blockbuster films like "Salt" and "Wanted."

A couple of other projects including two massive ones in collaboration with Universal Studios Join the "Maleficent" follow up in Jolie's next possible Hollywood project. Unfortunately, however, it seems like it would take quite some time before the high-profile actress decides on her next acting project given that her divorce with Pitt is still ongoing.
