The Walt Disney Studios is pleased to announce that it is in development on the film adaptation of Artemis Fowl with producer Harvey Weinstein. The live-action feature will be based on the first and second installments in Disney Publishing Worldwide’s best-selling children’s fiction series by author Eoin Colfer. The screenplay is being written by Michael Goldenberg (Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix). Robert DeNiro and Jane Rosenthal will executive produce the project.

“With its balance of mystery, adventure and family appeal, Artemis Fowl is a natural fit for Disney,” said Sean Bailey, president, Walt Disney Studios Motion Picture Production. “We’re looking forward to collaborating with Harvey on this exciting project.”

“Harvey is one of the preeminent producers in the industry, with impeccable taste and creative instincts,” added Alan Horn, chairman, The Walt Disney Studios. “I had a wonderful time working with Harvey during my tenure at Warner Bros., and I’m very happy to continue that relationship here at Disney.”

“If you would have told me five years ago I would be producing a project with Disney I would have thought you were crazy,” said Harvey Weinstein, Co-Chairman of The Weinstein Company. “I feel as though everything is coming full circle considering Bob DeNiro and Jane Rosenthal brought me this book while I was still at Miramax and within hours I told them I wanted the rights to the film. I am thrilled to be reunited with Alan Horn who I worked with while he was at Warner Bros. and we had tremendous success with The Aviator, Starsky and Hutch and Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles. It is also exciting to partner with friends Alan Bergman, Sean Bailey and of course Bob Iger who has been incredibly generous to me over the years. This is a special project for me because my children absolutely love this book. This story is for everyone and there is no one better than Disney to make a film that will excite people young and old.”

Artemis Fowl is about a 12-year-old Artemis who is a millionaire, a genius – and above all, a criminal mastermind. But Artemis doesn’t know what he’s taken on when he kidnaps a fairy (Captain Holly Short of the LEPrecon Unit) to harness her magic to save his family. These aren’t the fairies of the bedtime stories – they’re dangerous.

The Artemis Fowl book series currently has more than 21 million copies in print in 44 languages worldwide.

Voi avete qualche idea su chi potrebbe interpretare Artemis, Leale e Spinella?

Judi Dench in Talks to Join Kenneth Branagh’s ‘Artemis Fowl’ Movie Adaptation (EXCLUSIVE)

Written by Eoin Colfer, the children’s books follow the brilliant and cunning 12-year-old eponymous criminal mastermind Artemis Fowl II, whose plot to extort gold from the secret Fairy People puts him directly in the crosshairs of some of the most dangerous creatures on earth. Over the course of the book series, Fowl becomes an antihero rather than a full-fledged villain, often working together with the fairies to stop a slew of treacherous megalomaniacs.

Irish playwright Conor McPherson is on board to pen the script. Disney recently dated the film for Aug. 9, 2019.

Harvey Weinstein and Branagh are attached to produce. Judy Hofflund will exec produce. Seth Spector is overseeing the film for The Weinstein Company, and Tendo Nagenda and Chaz Salembier are overseeing it for Disney.

Dench and Branagh most recently collaborated on “Murder on the Orient Express,” which Branagh also helmed and starred in opposite Dench. They also starred together in “The Winter’s Tale” on the West End in 2015.

The acting legend has earned strong reviews for her most recent role as Queen Victoria in the dramedy “Victoria and Abdul.” She is repped by Julian Belfrage and Associates.

Da Comingsoon.net

Walt Disney Pictures confirms Artemis Fowl cast

After years of development at the studio, Walt Disney Pictures has announced the initial casting for their live-action adaptation of the book Artemis Fowl, which has Kenneth Branagh (Murder on the Orient Express, Cinderella) attached to direct.

The search for an actor to play Artemis Fowl was extensive, with casting director Lucy Bevan seeing over 1200 candidates for the part. In the end, Branagh chose Irish newcomer Ferdia Shaw, who will make his onscreen debut in the title role. Descended from a long line of criminal masterminds, 12-year-old genius Artemis Fowl finds himself in a battle of strength and cunning against a powerful, hidden race of fairies who may be behind his father’s disappearance.

Joining Shaw in the film will be Josh Gad (Murder on the Orient Express, Beauty and the Beast) in the role of Mulch Diggums, a kleptomaniacal dwarf who works for the fairies—and himself; Academy Award winner Judi Dench (Victoria & Abdul, Miss Peregrine’s Home for Peculiar Children, Skyfall) in the role of Commander Root, the steely leader of the fairy police force (LEPrecon); Lara McDonnell (The Delinquent Season, The Walk Invisible) as Captain Holly Short, the elf hero; and Nonso Anozie (Cinderella, Ender’s Game) as Butler, Artemis Fowl’s formidable bodyguard.

Based on the bestselling book series by Eoin Colfer and with a screenplay by award-winning playwright Conor McPherson, Artemis Fowl is slated for release in U.S. theaters on August 9, 2019. Production will begin early next year in the U.K

Artemis Fowl the 2nd, a young Irish criminal mastermind, who kidnaps the fairy LEPrecon officer Holly Short for ransom to fund rescuing his father. Once a transaction is made, they go on a hunt for the evil pixie Opal Koboi and rush to save Artemis Fowl senior from the Arctic.

We have the casting call, new audition dates in Ireland, along with a character description for the lead role which could become a reoccurring franchise role for a lucky newcomer.

*ARTEMIS FOWL*

-Male 5’3 (9-13)

-Open To All Ethnicities

-Needs An Irish Accent

CHARACTER BREAKDOWN: At first glance Artemis could be mistaken for a rather ordinary child with little athletic ability, but his eyes reveal a flickering of intelligence; inquisitive and possessing both academic and emotional intelligence, he is highly perceptive and good at reading people; most importantly, Artemis is warm-hearted and has a great sense of humour; he has fun in whatever situation he is in and loves life. No previous acting necessary.

Auditions (by appointment only) will take place in the following Irish cities Galway (September 29-30), Dublin (October 1st), and Cork (October 14th).

UPDATE: We a couple more character breakdowns for other major roles like Holly, Bulter, and Juliet.

*HOLLY SHORT*

-Female (14-19)

CHARACTER BREAKDOWN: Captain Holly Short is a female Elf. She is talkative, sarcastic, determined and the first female officer in her reconnaissance unit – a position that comes with a lot of pressure. Unlike some of the other fairies, she has a strong moral code and becomes one of Artemis’ true friends.

*BULTER*

-Male (25-40)

CHARACTER BREAKDOWN: Butler, though dressed properly as a personal valet, is a giant of a man, with no nonsense, spine-snapping demeanor. He is Artemis’ servant, confidant, protector, and muscle.

*JULIET*

-Female (15-18)

CHARACTER BREAKDOWN: Butler’s little sister. She lives at Fowl Manor with him and Artemis. She’s somewhat clumsy but capable of incredible feats of gymnastics. She is skeptical about the whole fairy-hunting enterprise.

Il resto del cast di Artemis Fowl è composto da Nonso Anozie (Cinderella), amara Smart (The Worst Witch), Miranda Raison (Murder on the Orient Express), Josh McGuire (About Time), Hong Chau (Downsizing), Nikesh Patel (London Has Fallen), Michael Abubakar (Trust Me), Jake Davies (A Brilliant Young Mind), Rachel Denning (Doctor Who), Matt Jessup (Dread), Simone Kirby (Alice Through the Looking Glass), Sally Messham (Allied) e Adrian Scarborough (Les Misérables).
