Bellissima e incantevole in costume, ma è troppo grande per Mulan dovranno cambiare la trama perché Mulan del classico è legata alla giovanissima età sia nel rapporto col padre che in tutto il resto.

Comunque sono contento del suo casting.

In ogni caso sono convinto che la sua età anagrafica sia un problema, dato che gli orientali tendono sempre a dimostrare meno anni (e lei non è un'eccezione, dalle foto le avrei dato tranquillamente 20-22 anni).
Se poi ripenso al live action di Cenerentola, dove la protagonista ha un rapporto estremamente infantile col padre nonostante dimostri tutti i suoi 23-24 anni, o a Emma Watson che interpreta Belle, una delle principesse che il pubblico percepisce tra le più mature, pur sembrando lei ancora una liceale, mi viene in mente che alla Disney non sia attenta o comunque non badi a certe cose.

Ne approfitto per chiedervi una cosa: ma l'uscita di Mulan non doveva essere nel 2018? Se è stato rimandato all'anno successivo, significa che l'anno prossimo non avremo alcun live tratto da un classico?

Mulan è stato rinviato al 2019 (data ancora da collocare per il momento).
Al suo posto nel 2018 vi sarà Lo Schiaccianoci.
Quanto ai remake nel 2018 vi sarà Christopher Robin (tratto da Winnie Pooh) che uscirà nelle sale cinematografiche in estate.

D'accordo su tutta la linea. Paradossalmente ora sono più preoccupata per il casting di Shang in relazione a lei, anche se con il cambio di trama, e il personaggio non più Capitano ma soldato semplice, dovrebbero avere maggiore libertà nella scelta.

Mulan Remake Shoots Soon as Disney Finalizes Production Team

Disney is moving full-steam ahead on their live-action Mulan remake. Key members of the crew have now been put in place as filming is slated to begin later this month. Though no release date has been specified by the studio, Mulan is slated to arrive in 2019 and, with filming taking place very soon, it's possible we could see the movie early on next year, as opposed to seeing it drop in the summer or winter. Though, there are already quite a few live-action remakes coming from the Mouse House next year, so it's going to be a bit crowded.

Niki Caro, best known for her work on the movie Whale Rider, has been tapped by Disney to direct the live-action Mulan. In a new report, it's revealed that Narcos' costume designer Bina Daigeler has been added to the crew. In addition, Sean Andrew Faden (Power Rangers) will serve as visual effects supervisor and stunt coordinator Allan Poppleton (The Wolverine) has also been added to the crew. With the key components in place, cameras are ready to roll on this highly-anticipated remake.

Yifei Liu has been cast in the title role for Disney's Mulan remake, but no other casting announcements have been made so far. Despite some controversy over an early "whitewashed" version of the script for the movie, Disney has promised that Mulan will feature an all-Asian cast. With that in mind, it's likely that the movie will feature quite a few actors and actresses that are relatively unknown, at least for American audiences. This sounds like it's going to be a very authentic movie. The last thing Disney wants is to have this movie fall apart over a whitewashing controversy.

The original animated Mulan was released in 1998, right in the heart of Disney's massive run of hits that started in the late 80s and spawned many of the classics that the studio is currently giving the live-action treatment to. The movie was a box office success, bringing in $304 million at the box office, but it's remembered primarily for featuring a strong, Asian female lead character. That's something we still don't see enough of today, let alone twenty years ago. But 2017 proved that audiences will turn up in droves to see movies with female heroes in them, with Wonder Woman being the primary example. So Disney has a real opportunity with Mulan to do something special.

As far as 2019 goes, Disney also has live-action versions of Dumbo (March 29), Aladdin (May 24) and The Lion King (July 19} all coming out as well. That means, if Disney sticks with a 2019 release date for Mulan, they will be releasing four live-action remakes in the same year. According to the new report from Omega Underground, filming on Mulan is expected to take place in Wellington, New Zealand, as well as parts of China.

Director Niki Caro's live-action Mulan is getting a new release date: March 27, 2020, Disney announced on Thursday.

The movie was originally set to open in theaters on Nov. 2, 2018, but it took more than a year to find the film's star, Chinese actress Liu Yifei, also known as Crystal Liu, following an extensive worldwide search. The studio has long been aware that it wouldn't meet the first release date.

A team of casting directors visited five continents and saw nearly 1,000 candidates for Disney's retelling of the classic musical animated hit Mulan.

Disney made a host of other changes to its release calendar, including moving up the release of Marvel's The Avengers: Infinity War by a week to April 27, 2018.

Lead Actress In Disney’s Live-Action ‘Mulan’ Wins “Most Disappointing Actress” Award In China

It’s been a while since we heard anything about the upcoming live-action remake of the Disney classic “Mulan.”

Back in February of last year, it was announced that director Niki Caro would be the filmmaker to bring the story to life. Other than that, the only real news is the film is being pushed until March 2020, with no real reason given for the delay. However, what we do know is that the musical will star Liu Yifei in the titular role. And recently, the Chinese actress made headlines in her native country, but not for the best reason.

According to a recent report, Liu Yifei had the unflattering distinction of winning the Golden Broom Award, aka the Chinese Razzie, for Most Disappointing Actress. Ouch. This award was given to the actress after her recent film, “Once Upon A Time.” The fantasy film is said to have been a major disappointment for Chinese audiences when it was released last year.

The film grossed approximately $82 million in China, which seems like a decent amount. Unfortunately, “Once Upon A Time” was only able to reach #31 on the Chinese box office charts for 2017, right behind “Legend of the Demon Cat” (which sounds awesome). In the States, the film only grossed less than $500,000 in limited release. So it does seem as if audiences didn’t respond as well as they should have to the film.

Unlike the Razzies, which is seen as a joke in the United States and not given much credence, the Golden Broom Awards are supposed to be taken more seriously and encourage actors and filmmakers to improve their craft. In the report, it states that actress Liu Yifei “is often ridiculed for her unexpressive poker face.” It doesn’t seem like this is an award given to a star for one bad performance, yet an actual indictment of her acting ability. Obviously, since she’s a relative unknown domestically, we aren’t sure if this means we should be worried about “Mulan,” or perhaps, Liu Yifei is working hard to combat that sort of criticism.

Unfortunately, we won’t get a chance to judge Liu Yifei’s acting ability in the Disney film for quite a while. So until then, we’ll just have to hope for the best.

Vabbè ma questi premi trovano il tempo che trovano... consideriamo che pure attori molto apprezzati nella loro lunga carriera sono anche stati criticati (ricordiamo le critiche ad icone del cinema come Liz Taylor o Audrey Hepburn per fare alcuni esempi, per non parlare delle nostre attrici italiane che seppure brave tutte sono state additate una volta almeno come "incapaci a recitare"), quindi questa cosa non è che ci preoccupa, anzi è nella norma.
Se contiamo che il cast di Aladdin proviene tutto da film che hanno fatto flop al botteghino, allora che dobbiamo dire, che è perso in partenza? vogliamo sperare di no.
oltre al cast che secondo noi riveste molta importanza è vero (nomi di richiamo servono per questi kolossal, vedesi i Marvel in cui raggruppano quasi tutte le attuali stelle di Hollywood), però serve anche un po' di sostanza perché un film basato solo sulle stelle ma senza sostanza davvero può andar bene le prime settimane o magari se la cava al cinema ma poi tracolla nel mercato dvd e questo una major non se lo può permettere.

che poi magari il film dell'articolo (Once upon a time) con Liu Yifei possa non essere stato granchè ci sta anche (personalmente dalla trama che abbiamo letto non è niente male), ma ampliando il discorso e lasciando da parte le nostre impressioni personali, ci chiediamo: quanti attori fanno film mediocri ? le stesse Angelina Jolie, Elle Fanning, Mia Wasikovska o Emma Watson hanno nel corso della loro carriera fatto film che si collocano nelle mediocrità, stesso dicasi per la giovane Mackenzie Foy dello Schiaccianoci o la Naomi Scott di Aladdin (queste due hanno per ora pochi film all'attivo). per non parlare di Lily James (Cenerentola) che ha fatto quella boiata di Orgoglio, pregiudizio e zombie che tutto ci sembra fuorché un bel film, essendo un film alla pari dei B movie della Asylum ed è tutto detto.
Sull'età di Liu Yifei non ci preoccupiamo nemmeno troppo, è vero è più matura delle altre principesse ma è cinese e le cinesi sembrano decisamente più giovani delle occidentali, per tratti e fisicità. Secondo noi va MOLTO bene fisicamente ed è un nome di richiamo. Senza contare che le riprese del film sono pressoché imminenti, hanno già effettuato i primi sopralluoghi ed è iniziata la prima parte della lavorazione del film (i creatori di ambienti, case, creatori di costumi e tutto hanno già terminato il loro lavoro e sono diretti a iniziare la fase preparatoria di Maleficent 2 con cui condivide parte della squadra tecnica) , crediamo che entro la fine dell'anno/l'inizio del prossimo le riprese sono terminate anche perché devono mandare in scaletta La Sirenetta, Biancaneve e Pinocchio quindi Mulan e Maleficent 2 devono terminarli entro la fine dell'anno o comunque entro i primi mesi del prossimo.

EXCLUSIVE: International action star Donnie Yen has been set to star in the live action Mulan based on Disney’s classic animated film and the legendary ballad. Yen will play Commander Tung, a mentor and teacher to Mulan.

The Chinese actress Liu Yifei had previously been set to play the title role. The film will be directed by Niki Caro, who helmed Whale Rider, McFarland, USA and The Zookeeper’s Wife. She became the second female director hired by Disney to direct a film with a budget higher than $100 million, following A Wrinkle In Time‘s Ava DuVernay. The film will be exec produced by Bill Kong, one of the most influential producers in China whose films include Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon, Hero, and Monster Hunt.

This will be Yen’s second big-budget Disney outing after he co-starred in Rogue One: A Star Wars Story. Disney is casting up the Chinese film now and has set a release date for March 27, 2020. Script is by Lauren Hynek, Rick Jaffa, Amanda Silver and Elizabeth Martin. Chris Bender, Jason Reed and Jake Weiner are producing.

Disney's live-action Mulan has landed two massive Chinese stars, The Hollywood Reporter has exclusively learned.

Jet Li is in final talks to play the emperor of China, who orders the mobilization of troops via the conscription of one male from each household. The titular heroine, Hua Mulan (Liu Yifei), disguises herself as a man in order to spare her elderly father from having to join the military.

The Beijing-born Li is one of China's biggest and most enduring crossover stars. After the martial arts champ became a superstar in Asia on the strength of franchises like Shaolin Temple and Once Upon a Time in China, he made his Hollywood debut in 1998's Lethal Weapon 4, followed by Romeo Must Die opposite Aaliyah in 2000. His other credits include Zhang Yimou's Hero, Peter Ho-Sun Chan's 2007 epic The Warlords and The Expendables series.

Meanwhile, Gong Li is confirmed as the villain of Mulan, a powerful witch (this appears to be a departure from Disney's 1998 animated version, in which the primary antagonist was Shan Yu, leader of the invading Huns).

Gong has long been considered one of China's finest actresses and greatest beauties. A longtime muse of Zhang Yimou since her debut in 1988's Red Sorghum, she also has starred in his The Story of Qiu Ju (for which she won two Best Actress awards at Venice), Raise the Red Lantern, Curse of the Golden Flower and, most recently, 2014's Coming Home. It was revealed yesterday that Donnie Yen would be joining newcomer Yifei Liu in Disney’s live-action Mulan movie directed by Whale Rider’s Niki Caro.

We have an update concerning the production which got delayed.

Omega Underground has learned that filming will begin sometime this August with production locales we’ve confirmed to be various places in New Zealand and China.

Caro spent a good chunk of time doing location scouting for the film in China.

She is also assembling her crew which includes cinematographer Mandy Walker (Hidden Figures, Australia).

Disney has given Mulan the updated release date of March 27th, 2020.

In tutta onestà non abbiamo capito perché solo ora si stanno ponendo tutti questi problemi mentre è da più di un anno che si conosce che Shang sarà sostituito da tal Chen (è un po' come avvenuto per il live action di Aladdin dove la notizia che fossero Paul e Pasek a scrivere le canzoni si conosceva da mesi - almeno da settembre 2017 - e solo a febbraio 2018 i siti l'hanno fatta diventare una notizia esclusiva e nuova)

It looks like fans can rest assured that there won’t be any more delay in production of Disney’s live-action reboot of Mulan. Preparations for the movie’s production in New Zealand this August seems to be going according to the plan.

Sources close to Pursue News have confirmed that the project is well underway with its preproduction in New Zealand. Furthermore, we have learnt that Disney has set aside a budget of $290 million plus for Mulan.

Mulan will be helmed by Zookeeper’s Wife fame director Niki Caro. Not only will she be the fourth woman to ever direct a solo live action film with a budget over $100 million but she will also top the list as the only woman director to have helmed a project with a budget of $290 plus million.

Sources tell us that the sets will be massive and are of an unprecedented scale. Currently, it is in the design stage and would require an ample of time to be built.

The crew working on the construction of the set is the same crew that worked on Marvel Studios’ Thor: Ragnarok for building the Asgard sets.

From what fans got to see in Behind-the-scenes video from Thor: Ragnarok set, it will certainly be an aesthetic set to delve at when the crew completes its construction for August filming.

Hopefully, Disney manages to woo its fans with this live action reboot. The project has faced several hurdles since its original release date for this year was rescheduled for March 27, 2020.

Recently, fans were also disappointed to hear that the reboot project has reportedly removed Li Shang and has replaced the fan-favorite with a new character named Chen Honghui.

Spoke with someone from Disney and I have been informed that the $300 million budget for the live-action MULAN is not true.

The film is looking at a production budget of $150-$175 million.

‘Mulan’: Utkarsh Ambudkar & Ron Yuan Added To Disney’s Live-Action Adaptation

EXCLUSIVE: Utkarsh Ambudkar (The Mindy Project, Pitch Perfect) and Ron Yuan (Netflix’s Marco Polo) have come aboard the Niki Caro-directed live-action adaptation of Disney’s Mulan, which has Chinese actress Liu Yifei set to play the title role.

Based on the studio’s 1998 animated feature, which was based on the Chinese legend of Hua Mulan, the pic follows the rise of Mulan during the Han Dynasty when this daughter of a legendary warrior impersonates a man to fight against a Hun invasion.

Ambudkar will play Skath, a con artist, while Yuan is the fiercely loyal Sergeant Qiang, second in command of the Imperial Regiment.

Jason Reed, Chris Bender, and Jake Weiner producing, with Bill Kong serving as executive producer. Disney recently pushed the film’s release date back by two years from this coming November to March 27, 2020.

Ambudkar, repped by Gersh and 3 Arts Entertainment, can be seen this summer in Blindspotting, which will be released via Summit Entertainment.
