Dal sito Broadway World:

Chicago Shakespeare to Present World Premiere of BEDKNOBS AND BROOMSTICKS, and More in 2018-19 Season

Chicago Shakespeare presents the World Premiere of Bedknobs and Broomsticks, the new stage musical adaptation of the iconic Walt Disney film, based on the beloved novels by Mary Norton and featuring music from the Oscar- and Grammy Award-winning duo The Sherman Brothers-Richard M. and Robert B. Sherman. At the outset of World War II, three children evacuated from the London Blitz arrive in a seaside village on the doorstep of Miss Eglantine Price, a patriotic witch-in-training and inexperienced broom flyer. Through their fantastical misadventures, they discover that their strength-and their own true magic-lie in one another, paving the way to save their town and all of England. Bookwriter Brian Hill and composer/lyricist Neil Bartram have imaginatively adapted the story for the stage, weaving new songs with familiar favorites-and even some lost gems-from the original movie score. The world premiere production will be directed and choreographed by multiple Jeff Award-winner Rachel Rockwell, May 30-July 28, 2019.

Successivamente il sito del Chicago Shakespeare annunciò il 5 febbraio 2019 che lo spettacolo era stato rimandato a data da destinarsi:

Originally slated to appear in the 2019/20 Season, SIX has been rescheduled into the timeframe of the previously announced world premiere musical, Bedknobs and Broomsticks, which has been postponed due to the untimely death of our friend, Director Rachel Rockwell. Rachel was an integral, creative force behind this new musical’s development, so our team concluded that, at a later date, we can produce the show that Rachel envisioned, and we wanted to bring to the stage.

Il progetto è ancora attivo. Il Presidente della Disney Theatrical Group, Thomas Schumacher, in un'intervista ha dichiarato che l'idea continua e Ashley Brown è coinvolta nel progetto:

Q: Can I put in a request for one of my favorites?

Thomas Schumacher: Sure.

Q: Bedknobs and Broomsticks.

Thomas Schumacher: I'm not going to lie to you, we actually just did a reading. In fact, Ashley Brown was in the reading and her "Age of Not Believing" was breathtaking. We have a really interesting plan for Bedknobs which I'm not going to use your platform to announce.

Da Inside the Magic

Disney Announces Live Productions of “Hercules,” “The Jungle Book,” and More!

Although Disney Theatrical Productions has announced the permanent shut down of its Frozen Broadway musical due to the pandemic, there is also good news for Disney live stage production fans.

The New York Times reports that in a letter to staff members, President of Disney Theatrical Productions Thomas Schumacher outlined the Walt Disney Company’s upcoming plans to continue their work in the live theatre business. Schumacher penned, “we remain committed to developing and producing stage musicals for a long time to come.”

He then outlined numerous off-Broadway and Disney touring productions that are coming down the pipeline in 2021 and beyond. First, a brand new stage version of Beauty and the Beast, developed by the original Broadway production’s creative team, will open internationally in 2021 and in the United States in 2022.

Furthermore, Schumacher announced that Disney is working on a smaller touring adaptation of its ever-popular Aladdin stage show and that Frozen’s touring production will also continue.

Perhaps the most major news, however, is that Disney Theatrical Productions will be bringing two brand new stories to life onstage in the near future. A live stage show adaptation of The Jungle Book, directed by Christopher Gattelli and a score by Richard Sherman, is in the works. A new Bedknobs and Broomsticks production is also currently in development.

In addition to all of these projects, the Robert Horn, Alan Menken, and David Zippel-led Hercules revival is still expected to open in New York City after theaters are allowed to accept patrons. This version of Hercules did well at the Delacorte Theater in summer 2019.

What’s still running on Broadway?

Even though Frozen will no longer be running on Broadway, Disney theatre production fans will still be able to see Disney’s other two Broadway shows, Aladdin and The Lion King, at their respective theaters. The Broadway League has announced that all Broadway productions will currently be shuttered until at least Labor Day.

Da The Disinsider

Casting Call for ‘Bedknobs and Broomsticks’ Musical

“It’s time to start believing” because the Bedknobs and Broomsticks musical is casting.

Disney is continuing their string of film-to-stage adaptations and Bedknobs and Broomsticks in next, and it’s not a little bit of Treguna Mekoides Trecorum Satis Dee they’re after (not right now at least) but two young up-and-comers.

The Academy Award-winning film was released in 1971 and starred Dame Angela Lansbury as Miss Price, an apprentice witch who must take in three refugee children escaping the Blitz of WWII.

This new stage adaptation is set to make its world premiere at Newcastle upon Tyne’s Theatre Royal on August 14th, 2021, before touring the rest of the UK (plus a brief stop in Ireland!). The musical will feature songs from the film such as the famous “The Age of Not Believing” and “Substitutiary Locomotion” by The Sherman Brothers, with new original material created by Neil Bartram, who also scored Disney’s stage adaptation of Shakespeare in Love.

Casting for the musical is now underway, and casting director Joanne Hawes has announced via Twitter that they are looking for child actors to portray Carrie and Paul, the two younger siblings of the three children sent to live with the witch, Miss Price. For more information, we have linked the original tweet below.

No casting for any other roles have been announced, and there is currently no word on casting calls for other characters. Tickets for the show are now available and can be found on the official website.

RUMOUR – BEDKNOBS AND BROOMSTICKS – WEST END TRANSFER PLANNED

The critically-acclaimed stage musical adaptation of Disney’s Bedknobs and Broomsticks will transfer to the West End, it is rumoured.

The touring production is reportedly set to transfer to London’s West End later this year, to an unannounced theatre.

Enter a world of magic and fantasy with Disney’s classic movie Bedknobs and Broomsticks. With the original songs by the legendary Sherman Brothers (Mary Poppins, The Jungle Book, Chitty Chitty Bang Bang), including Portobello Road, The Age Of Not Believing, The Beautiful Briny and new music and lyrics by Neil Bartram and book by Brian Hill.

Bedknobs and Broomsticks is brought to life by award-winning theatre-makers Candice Edmunds and Jamie Harrison.

Bedknobs and Broomsticks is produced by Michael Harrison by special arrangement with Disney Theatrical Productions.

I’ve hoped this would finally make its way to the West End, fingers crossed! ! !
