Dal sito DeadLine:

‘Supergirl’: Milly Alcock, Emilia Jones & Meg Donnelly Among Those In Mix To Screen Test For Role – The Dish

EXCLUSIVE: We are hearing that DC Studios is planning to test actresses soon to star in Supergirl, and that Milly Alcock, Emilia Jones and Meg Donnelly are in the mix.

There is a chance the studio could make a straight offer to a star, but all things are pointing toward screen tests for actresses, which will go down within the next month or so, we hear.

Deadline understands that natch, DC Studios co-boss James Gunn is definitely part of the process, as this is a character who likely will make its debut via a cameo in a DC project that isn’t Supergirl. The search is ongoing for a director.

Alcock is best known for her lead role on HBO’s Game of Thrones spinoff House of the Dragon, playing Princess Rhaenyra Targaryen. She is repped by CAA, Shanahan Management, Entertainment 360 and Curtis Brown.

Jones, repped by CAA and Brillstein, counts feature credits such as Paolo Sorrentino’s Youth and Apple’s Oscar Best Picture winner CODA as well as the Netflix series Locke & Key.

Donnelly, repped by Gersh and Silver Lining Entertainment, has starred in Disney Channel’s Zombies franchise and is already the voice of Supergirl in the DC animated movies Legion of Superheroes and Justice League: Crisis on Infinite Earths Part One.

Gunn, with co-DC chief Peter Safran, first announced a Supergirl movie, Supergirl, Woman of Tomorrow, during DC’s studio press day just more than a year ago. The movie is based on Tom King’s comic book series from 2022.

Said Gunn at the time, “In our series we see the difference between Superman who was sent to Earth and raised by loving parents from the time he was an infant, versus Supergirl who was raised on a rock, a chip off Krypton, and watched everyone around her die and be killed in terrible ways for the first 14 years of her life, and then came to Earth when she was a young girl. She’s much more hardcore; she’s not exactly the Supergirl we’re used to seeing.”

Superman Legacy, meanwhile, is prepping to shoot this spring in Georgia with David Corenswet (as Clark Kent/Superman), Rachel Brosnahan (Lois Lane), Nicholas Hoult (Lex Luther), Skyler Gisondo and Sara Sampaio, with Anthony Carrigan, Isabel Merced and Nathan Fillion playing Metamorpho, Hawkgirl and Guy Gardner/Green Lantern, respectively.

Superman: Legacy has been set for a worldwide release on July 11, 2025.

We’ll keep you in the loop as to who lands the big role.

DC had no comment.

Dal sito The Hollywood Reporter:

The Search for Supergirl: Milly Alcock, Meg Donnelly Screen Test in Atlanta (Exclusive)

The character will first appear in James Gunn's 'Superman: Legacy' before headlining her own movie, 'Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow.'

The search for Supergirl is one step closer to completion.

Screen tests for the role took place yesterday, according to several sources, with the field now narrowed to two actresses.

Milly Alcock, best known for her work on HBO’s Game of Thrones spinoff House of the Dragon as Princess Rhaenyra Targaryen, and Meg Donnelly, who starred in Disney Channel’s hit musical franchise Zombies and who voices the character in recent and current DC animated movies, both tested in Atlanta, per sources. DC Studios bosses James Gunn and Peter Safran were present.

Supergirl is a key part of Gunn and Safran’s plans as they piece together their slate for DC Studios. Warner Bros. Discovery hired the duo in late 2022 to reset the path for Warners’ movies focused on DC Comics characters.

Supergirl, who would headline her own movie, Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow, after being introduced in Gunn’s own Superman movie, Superman: Legacy, is a key component of that plan.

The feature, still in development, is connected to a comic book miniseries written by Tom King that was published in 2021 and 2022 and sought to redefine the character as something more than just a girl version of Superman.

“Superman is a guy sent to Earth and raised by loving parents, where Supergirl, in this story, she is a character raised on a chunk of Krypton,” Gunn explained in a video released on social media when the slate was revealed in January 2023. “She watched everybody around her perish in some terrible way, so she’s a much more jaded character.”

Actress and playwright Ana Nogueira is writing the script. The project does not currently have a director. In the comics, Supergirl (also known as Kara Zor-El) is cousin to Superman, who in Legacy will be played by David Corenswet. Sasha Calle played the character in last summer’s The Flash, but Gunn and company are going in a different direction.

The search for Supergirl has been an ongoing process. Other actors who had been in the mix earlier were Cailee Spaeny, the star of Priscilla, and Emilia Jones, the star of CODA.

Dal sito The Hollywood Reporter:

Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow sta prendendo il volo con la star di House of the Dragon Milly Alcock, conferma The Hollywood Reporter.

Supergirl, Woman of Tomorrow

News:

Craig Gillespie In Talks To Direct ‘Supergirl’ For DC Studios

EXCLUSIVE: Cruella and I, Tonya filmmaker Craig Gillespie is in talks to direct Supergirl for Warner Bros’ DC Studios, we can tell you first.

The plan is for DC to shoot the movie for Q4 after they’ve completed James Gunn’s Superman, which is shooting in Georgia for a July 11, 2025 theatrical release. DC bosses Gunn and Peter Safran are producing. DC EVP Chantal Nong is executive producing, we hear.

As we previously reported, House of the Dragon‘s Milly Alcock won the role of Supergirl, and she’ll appear in another DC project before making her big-screen debut as the Angel of the Sky.

Supergirl is based on Tom King’s 2022 comic book series Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow, which Bilquis Evely illustrated. Ana Nogueira adapted the comic book for the big screen. If you want to know how hot a comic book it is, you’ll find it upfront at the Barnes & Noble at The Grove for purchase.

Gunn said at a DC Studios presser early last year that in their Supergirl “we see the difference between Superman who was sent to Earth and raised by loving parents from the time he was an infant, versus Supergirl who was raised on a rock, a chip off Krypton, and watched everyone around her die and be killed in terrible ways for the first 14 years of her life, and then came to Earth when she was a young girl. She’s much more hardcore; she’s not exactly the Supergirl we’re used to seeing.”

The CAA-repped Gillespie has a specialty when delivering female-driven projects: I, Tonya scored an Oscar win for Allison Janney as Best Supporting Actress, and also notched a total of three Oscar noms including for Margot Robbie in the Best Actress category. His Cruella, a solo spinoff starring Emma Stone based on the 101 Dalmatians villain, was a big pandemic Disney+ and box office hit combined, grossing more than $233 million worldwide; the movie won an Oscar for Costume Design. Let’s also not forget Gillespie’s other female-driven TV series, Hulu’s Pam and Tommy, on which he received a Primetime Emmy nom for Outstanding Limited and Anthology Series.

Australian filmmaker Gillespie is also repped by Rumble Media and Sloane, Offer, Weber & Dern.

DC did not respond to request for comment.
