Dal sito Coming Soon:

Labyrinth Reboot Planned at Tri-Star

A Labyrinth reboot is being planned, although it’s uncertain if it will manifest as a sequel or a remake

A Labyrinth reboot is on the way from Tri-Star Pictures, says a story today at The Hollywood Reporter. It is uncertain whether or not the new Labyrinth will serve as a sequel to or a remake of Jim Henson’s 1982 fantasy classic, starring Jennifer Connelly and David Bowie. The trade notes that Guardians of the Galaxy cowriter Nicole Perlman has been brought aboard to supply the screenplay.

Scripted by Terry Jones from a story by Dennis Lee, the original Labyrinth was the final project from Henson. Connelly plays a young woman, Sarah, who accidentally offers up her baby brother to the Goblin King, Jareth (Bowie). To rescue the child, Sarah must navigate a fantastical world of creatures and magic until she can ultimately face off against Jareth himself.

News of the Labyrinth reboot comes, unfortunately, in the wake of the tragic news surrounding David Bowie’s passing earlier this month.

Since working on Guardians of the Galaxy, Perlman has returned to Marvel Studios to work on the screenplay for 2019’s Captain Marvel.

The Henson Company‘s Lisa Henson is attached to produce the Labyrinth reboot. Nicole Brown will oversee for Tri-Star.

Back in 2013, it was reported that Walt Disney Pictures was developing their own film titled Labyrinth. Although that project is not connected to the Henson film, it is said to follow a similar storyline with the central protagonist being a princess who has to traverse a dangerous maze in order to save her father. The current status of Disney’s Labyrinth project is unknown.

How do you feel about a Labyrinth reboot? Would you rather see a sequel to the original or a full on remake? Share your thoughts in the comments below.

No, non reggerebbe i confronti.
Bocciate entrambe!! eheheh.gif

Dal sito DeadLine:

TriStar Rebirths World Of ‘Labyrinth:’ ‘Spider Web’s Fede Alvarez & Jay Basu Aboard

EXCLUSIVE: TriStar has set Fede Alvarez to direct a film that will delve into the universe Jim Henson hatched in the 1986 Jim Henson-directed cult classic Labyrinth. Alvarez and Jay Basu will co-write the story, with the latter penning the script. The duo will take on that hallowed project after Alvarez directs the script he wrote with Basu for The Girl in the Spider’s Web, the continuation of the Lisbeth Salander saga that Sony began with The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo. Alvarez, who helmed for Sony the genre blockbuster Don’t Breathe, will do Labyrinth after he and Basu complete Spider’s Web. That film is casting and will begin production this fall.

Insiders stress that what they will do with Labyrinth after The Girl in the Spider’s Web is create a new story within the universe created in the original movie and that it is not a remake; indeed it sounds more like a spinoff than a sequel. The original was the last film Muppets creator Jim Henson directed before he died tragically in 1990 at 53. Jennifer Connelly played a teen who wished away her baby brother. When the Goblin King Jareth (played by David Bowie) stole the infant away and took him to his castle to be turned into a goblin, the regretful teen has to find her way through his maze-like kingdom to rescue her sibling. The movie wasn’t a box office smash, but it was considered one of the strongest screen turns for Bowie and is beloved by a lot of filmmakers. Bowie’s character will not be part of this. The film is a co-production between TriStar Pictures and the Jim Henson Co. with Alvarez and Basu writing the script. Lisa Henson of the Henson Co. will produce, and Nicole Brown will oversee for TriStar.

The studio confirmed, and Alvarez told Deadline: “Labyrinth is one of the seminal movies from my childhood that made me fall in love with filmmaking. I couldn’t be more thrilled to expand on Jim Henson’s mesmerizing universe and take a new generation of moviegoers back into the Labyrinth.”

Basu is the Cambridge-educated British writer who moved from London to be a part of the Universal Monsters writers group, this after writing his first novel, The Stars Can Wait, and landing several scripts on the Brit List. He co-wrote Vertigo Films’ sequel Monsters: Dark Continent with Tom Green, and first worked with Alvarez on an adaptation of the EA game Dante’s Inferno for Universal. He has since done projects including U’s Talon for Chris Morgan, Metal Gear Solid for Sony and Jordan Vogt-Roberts and Red Queen for Universal and adapted the Joe Hill novel The Fireman for Fox.

Alvarez, who also directed the Evil Dead remake, is repped by WME and Stuart Manashil and Basu by UTA, 42’s Josh Varney, Kaplan/Perrone and attorney Peter Nichols.

Scott Derrickson Set To Direct ‘Labyrinth’ Sequel For TriStar Pictures; Maggie Levin To Write Script

EXCLUSIVE: In-demand young talents Emma Mackey (Sex Education), Joe Alwyn (The Favourite), Fionn Whitehead (Dunkirk) and Emily Beecham (Cruella) will star in Emily, Golden Globe-nominated actress Frances O’Connor’s (Mansfield Park) directorial debut about the early life of Wuthering Heights author Emily Brontë.

Mackey, star of Netflix smash Sex Education and Fox’s upcoming Death On The Nile, will star as Emily. Harriet and The Favourite actor Alwyn will play Brontë’s conflicted lover. Whitehead, well known for Dunkirk and Emmy-winner Bandersnatch, plays Branwell Brontë, Emily’s inspiring but self-destructive brother, and Cannes 2019’s Best Actress winner Emily Beecham (Little Joe) completes the quartet as sibling writer Charlotte Brontë.

Embankment will handle world sales on the project, which is slated to shoot in Yorkshire, UK, in Q1, 2021. The firm will be selling from now and during the upcoming Cannes virtual market.

From a self-penned script, O’Connor imagines the transformative, exhilarating, and uplifting journey to womanhood of a rebel and a misfit, one of the world’s most famous, enigmatic, and provocative writers who died too soon at the age of 30.

Double Golden Globe-nominee O’Connor is known for her roles in Mansfield Park, Bedazzled, A.I. Artificial Intelligence, Madame Bovary and The Conjuring 2.

Producers are Harry Potter producer David Barron, Piers Tempest and Jo Bamford’s Tempo Productions (The Wife) with Robert Connolly and Robert Patterson of Arenamedia (Paper Planes).

O’Connor said: “Emily Brontë’s work and words are full of passion, feeling, violence, and fierce intelligence. In creating an imagined life for Emily, she will live again for our audience. Her story is about a young woman daring to form herself, to embrace her true nature, despite the consequences. Emily is, in fact, a love letter to women today, especially young women, a calling to them to challenge themselves to connect with their authentic voice and potential. I am so excited to work with such a thrilling, talented, young cast; luminous, intelligent, and spirited.”

Harry Potter, Cinderella and The Legend Of Tarzan producer Barron commented, “We are going to produce a movie of significant ambition – for audiences to enjoy and celebrate the scale of Emily Bronte’s own magnificent imagination.”

Embankment’s Tim Haslam added: “We really admire Frances’ expertise for combining highly refreshing and emotional storytelling with detailed research and nuanced observation and we celebrate her as a new voice of cinema”.

Mackey is represented by Kate Staddon at Curtis Brown Group and PJ Shapiro and Julian Zajfen at Ziffren Brittenham. Alwyn is represented by Independent Talent Group, CAA and Peikoff Mahan Popkin. Whitehead is represented by Curtis Brown Group, United Talent Agency and Peikoff Mahan Popkin. Beecham is represented by Troika, Seven Summits Management and ICM.

post-6-1111077254.gif post-6-1111077254.gif Oddio no!!
Io AMO i Muppett!!

Long ago, they were talking about a Labyrinth sequel directed by Scott Derrickson of Doctor Strange fame. Not really sure where that is going. I have it on good authority that at D23 Expo this year, they are going to announce a Disney+ Labyrinth series. I don't know if it's going to be directed by Scott Derrickson; I just know it's a Labyrinth series for Disney+.

Ah beh!

LABYRINTH Remake Reportedly In The Works With Mike Flanagan In Talks To Direct

A remake of Jim Henson's fantasy classic, Labyrinth, is rumored to be in the work at TriStar, and Mike Flanagan (The Fall of the House of Usher is said to be in talks to direct...

Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness director Scott Derrickson recently confirmed that a direct sequel to Jim Henson's Labyrinth was still in development, but it sounds like a remake/reboot may also be in the works.

"We never got the script all the way to a place where the studio wanted to make it, but I was very proud of the work that we did on it," Derrickson said in a recent interview.

"And it's a hard, hard project to turn into something commercially viable, because it's so imaginative and surreal that there's no way that it can be done cheaply. And at the same time, it's so daring and different that it is a tough movie for a studio to feel competent that it has enough commercial value to earn a profit. So I think that it's a tough nut to crack, but all I can tell you is I'm very proud of the work that we did on it. We certainly had a great film in mind."

When asked if the plan was to cast another actor as Jareth the Goblin King in the wake of the legendary David Bowie's passing, Derrickson declined to go into too much detail, but did say they "had a really cool idea."

Now, scooper Daniel Richtman is reporting that Mike Flanagan (The Fall of the House of Usher, Midnight Mass) is in talks to direct a Labyrinth remake for TriStar.

There's a chance both of these projects are one and the same, of course, but this is all we have to go on for the time being.

The 1986 original starred Jennifer Connolly as a teenager named Sarah who enters a strange fantasy realm in an effort to rescue her little brother from Jareth the Goblin King (Bowie). There, she meets some weird and wonderful creatures (Hoggle, Ludo and Sir Didymus) who help her on her quest to reach the King's castle.

Although it received something of a mixed reception upon its release, the movie has since gone on to achieve cult status, and we've seen various spinoff comics, books, and video games over the years.

There's also an annual fan masquerade ball, which is considered one of the largest of its kind in the world.

Maggie Levin (Into the Dark, My Valentine) was tasked with writing the sequel's script back when it was first announced, while The Jim Henson Company's Brian and Lisa Henson were on board as producers. We don't know if they're still attached, however.
