Free Of The Mountain...

Famed Archaeologist freed from unknown red tape...

Been keeping an eye on things even though I haven't posted lately. I said I'd try to do a few posts before Blue Sky goes quite for a while. This story is enough to make my fingers reach for the keyboard. I'm sure you've heard the news, and if you haven't why are you reading this?

When The Walt Disney Company bought Lucasfilm last year, it was primarily for the Star Wars franchise. But George Lucas' company has many other valuable properties, but none more valuable besides Luke Skywalker than the Man in the Hat. Many people thought that the Mouse would not do anything with the iconic character because of entanglement of distribution rights that belong, not to it but to Paramount Pictures.

Sure, Disney owned the character, but to distribute it they had to go through the original studio that Lucas and Spielberg partnered with back in 1979. This all comes from a deal that then Paramount executive Michael Eisner made with the two wunderkind storytellers. Many people thought that Iger and the Mouse Suits around him wouldn't want to deal with the hassle of the previous contracts and hoops the studio would have to jump through.

It appears now that they/we were wrong.

According to Variety today, the Walt Disney Studios has negotiated an agreement with Paramount Pictures where the new owner has distribution rights to all new films related to the classic adventure. Paramount does retain distribution rights to the original four films, and will receive a percentage of the profits from any new films of this valuable franchise.

Although this doesn't mean that Walt Disney Pictures has a Indiana Jones film in the pipeline, it does clear the way for one. And with Harrison Ford's interest in playing the character again it looks like the green light could soon be given, if it hasn't already been. Hopefully they will play this smart and hire the right people for it. No more space aliens even if it fits the 1950s Red Scare time period. I would immediately get Lawrence Kasdan to brainstorm ideas with Kathleen Kennedy and George Lucas over the coming months.

Once a great idea is approved, hire someone who is capable of creating great screenplays like Mark Protosevich or the hot flavor-of-the-month Simon Kinberg. Any film that they make would likely be Ford's last adventure as the character since he is 72 years old and I can't imagine him in a sixth film because it would probably involve a wheelchair. Let's face it, if there's an Indy VI then the MacGuffin will have to search for him instead of the other way around.

I'm sure after that Disney will want to continue such a valuable creation, but it leaves me fearful of the character's future. Sure, I would love to see an Indiana Jones Animated Series, or maybe an Indiana Jones animated film. But Harrison Ford IS Indiana Jones. Just like he IS Han Solo. It's hard to imagine anyone with his form of masculinity playing those characters. Then again, I guess it would be hard for some to have pictured anyone taking over James Bond from Sean Connery, but someone did. Many, many times.

It might just be my soft spot for the portrayal he created in the character that sprang forth from his performance, but I have trouble imagining a future reboot/reinterpretation of the whip carrying, pistol packing, hat wearing archaeologist from America. It could happen, and it likely will. But it won't be the hero from the past, his, yours or mine. Sometimes it's hard to let go of things, even when you know it's right. People, characters, and events seem to attach themselves to your heart and create a bond that is hard to separate.

Like the red tape Doctor Jones just was set free from...

What the Future of Indiana Jones Could Look Like at Disney

A week after announcing that it’s purchased the marketing and distribution rights to future “Indiana Jones” movies from Paramount, Disney says it will be at least two to three years before the archaeologist goes on his next whip-cracking adventure.

“We haven’t done anything,” said Alan Horn, chairman of the Walt Disney Studios while speaking at Variety‘s Dealmakers Breakfast at the Four Seasons Hotel in Beverly Hills on Friday. “We don’t have a story. We need a story.”

Horn said it didn’t make sense for Disney to move forward on making more Indiana Jones movies until it fully owned the rights to upcoming films.

“It didn’t make sense to produce the movie at Disney and then have it be distributed and marketed by Paramount,” Horn said.

New Indy films will be produced by Lucasfilm, which is busy developing a seventh “Star Wars,” to shoot next year, as well as spin-offs based on “Star Wars” characters.

In fact, Lucasfilm will release a new “Star Wars” sequel or spin off every year, Horn said, starting with 2015′s “Star Wars: Episode VII.”

George Lucas, who Disney bought Lucasfilm from for $4 billion, remains on board as a consultant to the sci-fi franchise he created. “We are proceeding as the folks who own the company, but he’s George Lucas and I’m sure we’ll be in conversations with him” as new movies in the series are developed and produced, Horn said.

SEE ALSO: What the Future of Indiana Jones Could Look Like at Disney

Horn, who was named chairman of Walt Disney Studios in May 2012, after having run Warner Bros., initially said “how hard could it be? I’m going from bunny to mouse.” But Horn found Disney chairman Bob Iger who he called “an impressive fella,” “too compelling to resist,” as well as the opportunities to work with such brands as Pixar and Marvel, who are helping deliver six to eight tentpoles to Disney’s release schedule each year.
Since taking the job, Horn has often talked about the different cultures between the various brands at Disney, and the company itself, saying when walking the halls of Warner Bros., you saw images of Gloria Swanson, Clint Eastwood and Denzel Washington. “At Disney, it’s Dumbo and Cinderella and Walt, himself,” Horn said.

Horn largely lets executives at Marvel, Pixar and now Lucasfilm produce the films they want.

These guys have earned the rights to follow their creative vision,” said Horn, who is often asked what his plans for Marvel are. “I plan to bring them coffee,” he joked.

Still, Horn said movies must meet two requirements when greenlighting projects: “Do I have to see it now and do I have to see it on the big screen? If the answer to both of those questions is no, then we have a big problem. My paycheck has a mouse on it and I take it very seriously.”

Horn called the decline of homevideo “painful,” and that Disney, along with most studios, need to “embrace technology” and foreign territories to make up for lost revenue. ”The future is about territories and technology,” Horn said. “We need to embrace technology and make technology our friend.”

But that’s also meant balancing the type of films that get made.

“The international market wants (to see films that have) size, scope and scale,” Horn said. That often means making big-budget movies. “It drives us to support the tentpole philosophy.”

Horn said that while it’s challenging to do business in many international territories, China can’t be ignored because “one of every five people on the planet is Chinese. We have to be there. These international territories translate into revenue streams for us that makes being in the movie business worth it.”

With budgets escalating to $200 million or more, “you have to put a period behind every word: It’s. 200. Million. Dollars,” Horn joked. “Relating to this stuff is hard, so I often say it’s 600,000 dinners at your favorite restaurant for four with your favorite bottle of wine.”

While Hollywood and Disney have toyed with the idea of narrowing the current distribution windows, Horn said Disney is “committed to the windowing we now have,” but said it’s up to the exhibition biz to improve the experience of watching movies in theaters. “It’s incumbent on exhibition to make the experience as exciting as the movies.”

Indiana Jones 5: Frank Marshall smentisce i rumor

Jones.

Indiana Jones 5 si farà?

Rumor su rumor, speculazioni su speculazioni, false partenze e smentite.

New Indiana Jones Movie Confirmed by Lucasfilm

As part of their June Star Wars cover story, Vanity Fair had a chance to speak with Lucasfilm president Kathleen Kennedy about Star Wars: The Force Awakens and got her to confirm that a new Indiana Jones movie to relaunch the franchise is in the cards, although it’s not something that will happen in the immediate future.

The following is from the print copy of the magazine:

“In buying the company, Disney also got rights, for better or worse, to less-storied Lucasfilm properties, among them Willow and Radioland Murders. A bigger prize is the Indiana Jones franchise. Kennedy confirmed rumors that another Indy movie ‘will one day be made inside this company. When it will happen, I’m not quite sure. We haven’t started working on a script yet, but we are talking about it.'”

Kennedy was the executive producer on all four of director Steven Spielberg’s previous Indiana Jones films, so one can expect that a relaunch of the franchise is definitely going to be in the cards even with nothing definite confirmed.

It’s been rumored for months that Chris Pratt would don the fedora for the relaunch, but we might not hear anything more about that until Lucasfilm has a script and director in place.

Notizia in italiano su Badtaste.it:

Chris Pratt chiarisce i rumour su Indiana Jones e Ghostbusters

Mai.

E c’era molto di tutto questo nello script originale, quello scritto da Jeb Stuart (Indiana Jones and the Saucer Men from Mars)."

Harrison Ford confirms production start date for Indiana Jones 5

Earlier this month, Lucasfilm president Kathleen Kennedy confirmed that the long-in development fifth installment to the blockbuster Indiana Jones franchise will be a continuation from the previous films, featuring the return of Harrison Ford as the titular adventurous archaeologist. In a recent interview with CBS Sunday Morning, the Academy Award-nominated actor has finally opened up about his involvement in Indiana Jones 5, revealing that the film will soon start its production in two months just in time for its scheduled July 9, 2021 release.

“I’m always delighted to come back to these characters,” Ford said. “You know, when we have the opportunity to make another it’s because people have enjoyed them. I feel obliged to make sure that our efforts are as ambitious as they were when we started. You have a sense of responsibility to your customers.”

He added, “[I think] of the people that go to my movies more as customers than I do as fans. Fans feels kind of weird to me, but always has. But the fact that these people support my business and I’m responsible to them for the quality of the service that I offer, that feels better to me.”

Indiana Jones 5 has been in development since 2016 with Steven Spielberg, who directed all of the previous Indiana Jones film, is expected to helm the newest installment from a script written by David Koepp.

Famed archaeologist and explorer Indiana Jones was introduced in 1981’s Raiders of the Lost Ark – one of AFI’s 100 Greatest American Films of All Time – and later thrilled audiences in 1984’s Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom, 1989’s Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade, and 2008’s Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull. The four films have brought in nearly $2 billion at the global box office.

Indiana Jones 5: Frank Marshall Talks Status of James Mangold’s Sequel

Last February, Harrison Ford confirmed that production on the upcoming Indiana Jones 5 would be starting in a few months. However, plans quickly changed when it was suddenly announced that long-time Indiana Jones helmer Steven Spielberg had departed the project as the director with James Mangold (Logan) in negotiations to replace him. That’s why, many are wondering if this major setback could again delay the progress of Lucasfilm’s long-in development fifth installment.

Now, producer Frank Marshall has finally opened up about the project by revealing the current status. Speaking with Collider, Marshall has confirmed that James Mangold will indeed be taking over the directorial duties for Indiana Jones 5 and that they’ve just started writing on the script which is now under Mangold’s new creative direction.

“His love of the franchise. He’s a wonderful filmmaker. I think he also has a relationship with Harrison. It was all of the right pieces coming together, at the right time.” the producer said on why Mangold was the best choice for the project.

He also addressed on when production will finally be able to begin especially given the world’s current situation right now. “The number one thing, obviously, is the safety of everybody – the cast, the crew, and all of us. So, we’re looking at the guidelines that are coming slowly, from the health experts and the studios and the different parts of the business, and we’re just trying to incorporate everything, so we can move forward and be safe. It’s going to obviously slow things down, so we’re trying to adjust. You won’t see a lot of big crowd scenes, for example, for awhile. There won’t be any more craft service, so maybe that’ll be good for people, in keeping more fit. It’s a moving target right now. There are a lot of people working on the solutions, to be able to work and be safe.

It was announced in February that Steven Spielberg, who directed all of the previous Indiana Jones films, had exited the project as director but will remain as a producer, which is when negotiations with James Mangold to take over began.

Indiana Jones 5 has been in development since 2016 with Spielberg and Ford returning in their respective roles and an original theatrical release date set for July 19, 2019, but was constantly pushed back after multiple rewrites came from Jonathan Kasdan, son of Raiders of the Lost Ark writer Lawrence after original writer David Koepp exited the project.

Before Spielberg gave up his directing duties, the film was previously scheduled to begin its production within 2020. However, due to Spielberg’s exit and the ongoing global pandemic, production has been delayed to a much later date. The highly-anticipated sequel is now scheduled to be released on July 29, 2022.

Phoebe Waller-Bridge Joins Cast for Indiana Jones 5!

As the film gears up for production in a few months, the cast for the long-awaited fifth and final installment in the Harrison Ford-led Indiana Jones franchise has expanded with the addition of three-time Emmy winner Phoebe Waller-Bridge (Fleabag, Killing Eve)!

“I’m thrilled to be starting a new adventure, collaborating with a dream team of all-time great filmmakers,” director James Mangold said in a statement. “Steven, Harrison, Kathy, Frank, and John are all artistic heroes of mine. When you add Phoebe, a dazzling actor, brilliant creative voice and the chemistry she will undoubtedly bring to our set, I can’t help but feel as lucky as Indiana Jones himself.”

In addition to casting Waller-Bridge, it’s been confirmed that John Williams will return to score the film, continuing a musical journey which began 40 years ago with Raiders of the Lost Ark. Williams’ unforgettable Indy soundtracks, packed with all the epic thrills, suspense, romance and excitement that fans have come to expect from an Indiana Jones movie, have become as beloved and familiar as the adventurer-hero’s signature hat and whip.

The project marks the latest collaboration between Waller-Bridge and Lucasfilm, with the multi-hyphenate award winner previously starring in Solo: A Star Wars Story as L3-37, the droid companion to Donald Glover’s Lando Calrissian in the film.

The currently untitled fifth Indiana Jones film will see James Mangold (Ford v. Ferrari) in the director’s chair and Kathleen Kennedy, original franchise director Steven Spielberg, Frank Marshall and Simon Emanuel all set to produce. Filming is currently expected to begin in July and the film is slated for a theatrical release on July 29, 2022.

‘Indiana Jones 5’: Mads Mikkelsen Joins Harrison Ford and Phoebe Waller-Bridge In Sequel

EXCLUSIVE: Following the news that Phoebe Waller-Bridge had landed the female lead in the next Indiana Jones movie, Lucasfilm has found Harrison Ford’s next co-star in Mads Mikkelsen, who is set to join the next installment. James Mangold is taking over directing reins from Steven Spielberg, who still is serving as a producer and is very much involved in various elements of the film. Kathleen Kennedy, Frank Marshall and Simon Emanuel will join Spielberg as producers. John Williams, who has worked on every score in the 40-year-old franchise including its iconic theme, also will return as composer.

The hope is to start production this summer, with Mangold meeting with other talent for other roles in preparation for production. Plot details are still vague on what new adventure awaits Jones, as are details behind who Mikkelsen will play. The film is set to bow on July 29, 2022.

The film marks another major franchise Mikkelsen is boarding after coming on to the Fantastic Beasts movies; he replaces Johnny Depp as Grindelwald after Depp parted ways with the part earlier this year following his recent legal troubles.

Mikkelsen is also coming off some of the best reviews of his career in the Danish film Another Round, which earned a handful of Oscar nominations including Best International Feature and Best Director. At the BAFTAs, where Mikkelsen was nominated for best actor, the film took home the award for Best Film Not in the English Language. Next up for him is the Riders of Justice.

He is repped by UTA and Art Management.

Thomas Kretschmann Cast in ‘Indiana Jones 5’

The cast for Indiana Jones 5 continues to grow!

According to The Wrap, Thomas Kretschmann has joined Harrison Ford, Phoebe Waller-Bridge, and Mads Mikkelsen in the next installment of the Lucasfilm franchise. Like Waller-Bridge and Mikkelsen, his role is being kept under wraps at this point. Kretschmann previously worked with The Walt Disney Company in Marvel’s Avengers: Age of Ultron as Wolfgang von Strucker.

Though this film has been in production hell since the release of Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull, the recent casting news seems to be a positive sign that the film will not be delayed for the umpteenth time.

The fifth entry in the Indiana Jones series is to begin production this summer, with a current release date of July 29, 2022. The film will be directed by James Mangold, (Ford v Ferrari, Logan), who is also writing the film along with frequent collaborators Jez and John-Henry Butterworth. It will be produced by Steven Spielberg, Kathleen Kennedy, Frank Marshal, and Simon Emanuel. John Williams is returning to compose the score.

‘Indiana Jones 5’ Rumored To Take Place In Space, Mads Mikkelsen’s Role Revealed

With the exception of recent casting announcements, the next installment in the Lucasfilm’s Indiana Jones franchise has pretty much been shrouded in secrecy. Thanks to our friends over at The Illuminerdi though, we may finally have some details about the film’s setting and who some of the characters might be playing.

Keep in mind that none of the following information has been officially confirmed; however, according to several sources close to the site Indiana Jones 5 will take place during the space race of the 1960s! With the last film taking place in the late 1950s, that timing makes sense.

Additionally, Mads Mikkelsen is rumored to be a Nazi scientist recruited by NASA to help them get on the moon. While that character description alone would have you think he’s the film’s primary antagonist, the site says that the film is casting for a “an evil and brutal” female antagonist that might work with Mikkelsen’s character. Scarlett Johansson also reportedly passed on the role.

More potential details were revealed about Shaunette Renee Wilson’s character too. She’s expected to play a CIA Agent “babysitting” Mikkelsen’s character while he works for NASA.

Once again, none of this info is confirmed.

Now that we know of a potential plot, all that’s missing is the MacGuffin. For those who don’t know, the MacGuffin is a specific object which drives the film’s plot. Each Indiana Jones film has one (i.e The Ark of the Covenant, the Crystal Skull, etc.)

Expected to shoot in just a few weeks, Harrison Ford will return once more to don the signature hat and whip, but for the first time in the franchise Steven Spielberg will not return as director. This is particularly surprising considering that even John Williams will return to score the film. Instead, James Mangold will helm the film.

Aside from Ford, Mikkelsen, and Wilson additional cast members include Phoebe Waller-Bridge (Solo: A Star Wars Story), Boyd Holbrook (Logan), and Thomas Kretschmann (Avengers: Age of Ultron).

The film is expected to be released on July 29, 2022.

James Mangold’s Indiana Jones 5 Begins Production Next Week

According to Deadline, production on Lucasfilm’s long-in-development fifth and final installment to the Harrison Ford-led Indiana Jones franchise is currently scheduled to begin next week in the UK at Pinewood Studios. This comes after photos of its rumored sets have been recently leaked online through Reddit, featuring what looks like ruins of a castle.

Joining Harrison Ford are franchise newcomers Phoebe Waller-Bridge, Mads Mikkelsen, Thomas Kretschmann, Boyd Holbrook, and Shaunette Renée Wilson, with Waller-Bridge reportedly set as the female lead. The highly-anticipated sequel is currently scheduled to be released on July 29, 2022.

Indiana Jones 5 sees the return of Harrison Ford as he reprises one of his most iconic roles as the titular explorer. It will be directed by Oscar nominee James Mangold (Logan) from a new screenplay he is co-writing with Ford v Ferrari collaborators Jez and John-Henry Butterworth. Mangold stepped up to take over the director’s chair after Steve Spielberg had announced last year that he would be exiting his directorial duties for the film. The Oscar-winning filmmaker was the one who directed all of the previous Indiana Jones films. Despite this, he will still remain part of the film’s production as a producer.

The project will be produced by Kathleen Kennedy, original franchise director Steven Spielberg, Frank Marshall, and Simon Emanuel, with John Williams returning to score the film, continuing a musical journey that began 40 years ago with Raiders of the Lost Ark.
med archaeologist and explorer Indiana Jones was first introduced in 1981’s Raiders of the Lost Ark – one of AFI’s 100 Greatest American Films of All Time – and later thrilled audiences in 1984’s Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom, 1989’s Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade, and 2008’s Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull. Toby Jones Joins Cast of ‘Indiana Jones 5’; More Hints Point to De-aged Ford

Yet another new photo from the set of Indiana Jones 5 has leaked today, this one telling us more than we have seen yet.

TheLoganDickinson in the Indiana Jones subreddit has posted a new photo of Harrison Ford as Indiana Jones, one of the first where the actor is not seen wearing a mask. Also in the photo is British actor Toby Jones, who has been rumored to be part of the film since last week as filming began in Scotland.

Jones has previously appeared in several Disney properties, including as Zola in the MCU and as Owl in 2018’s Christopher Robin. He is also well known for his role as Dobby in the Harry Potter franchise and as Claudius Templesmith in The Hunger Games franchise. This will mark his first role in an Indiana Jones film.

A close look at the new photo reveals dots on Ford’s face, further evidence that he will be de-aged for a flashback sequence. From what we have seen of the set so far in other photos, it is likely that this flashback will incorporate Nazis in some fashion.

We should expect to get a full cast announcement from Lucasfilm sometime in the near future. As of now, the only confirmed cast is Harrison Ford back as Indiana Jones and Phoebe Waller-Bridge as an undisclosed character.

Other reported cast include Mads Mikkelsen, Boyd Holbrooke, Thomas Kretschmann, and Shaunette Renee Wilson.

The fifth entry in the Indiana Jones series recently began production and has a current release date of July 29, 2022.

The Oscar-nominated Banderas has closed a deal to join the film to star alongside Ford, who returns as our favorite archaeologist, and an all-star ensemble that includes Phoebe Waller-Bridge, Mads Mikkelsen, Boyd Holbrook and Shaunette Renée Wilson. For Banderas, the film marks another major franchise for the international star.

James Mangold is taking over directing reins from Steven Spielberg, who still is serving as a producer and is very much involved in various elements of the film. Kathleen Kennedy, Frank Marshall and Simon Emanuel join Spielberg as producers. John Williams, who has worked on every score in the 40-year-old franchise including its iconic theme, also will return as composer. He also recently finished production on Sony’s Uncharted starring Tom Holland and Mark Wahlberg. He is also returning to star in the DreamWorks Animation sequel Puss in Boots: The Last Wish.

With Super Bowl LVII happening this Sunday, as always, people are excited for the commercials, particularly the TV spots for all the big upcoming event movies and shows. Now, Disney has traditionally had a big presence during the event’s air time. With so many upcoming projects that have received little to no marketing, we decided to put together a list of spots that are most likely to make their debut.

Here are some of the biggest projects we expect to see teased:

[...]

Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny

Considering how much of a disappointment Kingdom of the Crystal Skull was, fans are both excited and nervous for Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny (myself included). While the first trailer helped calm a lot of those worries. and the film still 4 months away from hitting theaters, it’s possible we may not get any new Indiana Jones footage Sunday. However, given that it is such a massive franchise, one of the most anticipated films of the Summer, and Ford’s final performance as the character, it would be a no-brainer to use the Super Bowl as a way of building even more hype.
