Tim Burton Developing Live-Action The Addams Family Series

While the kooky family are busy killing it at the box office and prepping for a 2021 animated return, The Addams Family is getting ready to head to the small screen once again as Tim Burton (Edward Scissorhands) is helping develop a new live-action adaptation of the Charles Addams-created comic strip, according to Deadline.

The series, which is set to be written and showrun by Smallville alums Alfred Gough and Miles Millar, is reported set to bring the family in to the modern day and would center on young Wednesday Addams and her view on the world of 2020. In addition to writing and showrunning, Gough and Millar are set to executive produce the project alongside Burton, who is currently in negotiations to executive produce the series as well as possibly directing all episodes of the update, while MGM TV, who owns the rights to the franchise, are attached to produce.

Burton signing on for the series seems like a match made in gothic heaven, with the Oscar-nominated writer/director having received acclaim over the years for his dark atmosphere throughout his works including in Beetlejuice, Edward Scissorhands and Dark Shadows.

Burton was even at one point developing his own film adaptation in the early 2010s in the form of a stop-motion outing on which he would co-write, co-produce and direct at Universal Pictures’ Illumination Entertainment, though after three years of languishing in development hell it was eventually scrapped. He was also set to helm the 1991 Raul Julia and Anjelica Huston-starring film, though was forced to pass due to scheduling conflicts with Batman Returns.

The Addams Family series will also mark Burton’s first major foray into live-action television after helping develop and executive produce the animated series adaptation of his 1988 hit movie Beetlejuice.

Casting davvero singolare e non scontato. Viene anche rivelato di più sulla trama.

Da Collider

Exclusive: Luis Guzmán to Play Gomez Addams in Tim Burton's 'Wednesday' Series

His casting comes as something of a surprise, but we dig it!

SAG Award winner Luis Guzmán (Traffic) has closed a deal to play Gomez Addams in Wednesday, Tim Burton's new live-action Netflix series based on The Addams Family, Collider has exclusively learned.

Created by Smallville duo Al Gough and Miles Millar, who also serve as showrunners, Wednesday is a comedic, supernaturally-infused coming-of-age series that follows the teenage girl's years as a student at Nevermore Academy, where she attempts to master her emerging psychic ability, thwart a monstrous killing spree that has terrorized the town, and solve a mystery that embroiled her parents 25 years ago -- all while navigating her new relationships at Nevermore.

Rising star Jenna Ortega (Yes Day, You, Scream) will play Wednesday Addams, while Guzmán will recur as her eccentric father. John Astin played Gomez in the original Addams Family TV show, while Raul Julia played the character on the big screen. Tim Curry also played Gomez in a direct-to-video movie, while Oscar Isaac voices the character in the current animated franchise. Ortega strikes me as a perfect fit to play Wednesday Addams, and with Burton at the helm, this is one Netflix project worth keeping a close eye on.

Burton will make his TV directing debut with the eight-episode series, which hails from MGM Television. Burton will also executive produce alongside Jonathan Glickman of Glickmania, Andrew Mittman of 1.21, Kayla Alpert, Gail Berman, Steve Stark, and Kevin Miserocchi of the Tee and Charles Addams Foundation, as well as Gough and Millar.

Guzmán may be best known for his work with A-list directors Paul Thomas Anderson and Steven Soderbergh on such films as Boogie Nights, Traffic, Magnolia, Out of Sight, Punch-Drunk Love, and The Limey. His other memorable feature credits include Carlito's Way, Sweet Home Alabama, The Bone Collector, and The Taking of Pelham 123.

Guzmán has also left his mark on the small screen, as his TV credits include HBO's Oz, John From Cincinnati, and How to Make It in America, as well as Narcos, Shameless, and Code Black. He's represented by The Gersh Agency and Gravesend Entertainment.

Bel colpaccio!

Da Comingsoon.net

Christina Riccci Joins Netflix’s Wednesday Addams Series

Nearly three decades since the theatrical release of Barry Sonnenfield’s Addams Family Values, Golden Globe and Emmy nominee Christina Ricci is making her way back to the franchise as she officially signs on to Netflix‘s upcoming live-action Addams Family series. After famously playing Wednesday Addams in the early 90s, Ricci is now set portray an entirely new character, joining Jenna Ortega who will be taking on the mantle of the iconic titular teen in the Tim Burton-directed series.

According to Deadline, the Yellowjackets star’s casting comes after Thora Birch’s sudden exit during production. Her new character will likely be similar to the one that Birch was initially set to play. Production on the Wednesday series is expected to wrap at the end of the month in Romania.

Oggi, prosegue Tim Burton:
